White House Spokesman: "The Constitutional Lawyer in the White House" Disagrees with the Supreme Court
— Ace

TFG:

Although Josh Earnest repeated this formulation, it must be noted that it was actually a reporter who phrased the question by asking what the "constitutional lawyer who sits in the Oval Office" thinks about the Hobby Lobby decision.

They're still in love, I guess.

Meanwhile, the White House is workin' hard for the American people. Just last week it tried to introduce the meme that the president was "The Bear" and so people should tweet things like "OMG, the bear is loose!" when the President is out of the White House.

Today, the White House focuses on even more important matters:

Wow another #Hashtag twitter game. I never saw that coming.

7 I have the feeling Josh Earnest won't last nearly as long as serial liar Carney did.

And if Obama disagrees, can't at least one reporter spit his dick out long enough to ask on what actual grounds the so-called Constitutional Scholar disagrees?

I know they all wuv Prezzy Boyfriend so much, but is asking him to put up or shut up after five and a half years too much to ask?

He claims to know what he is talking about, let him fucking PROVE it for once.

27 "Just last week it tried to introduce the meme that the president was 'The Bear' and so people should tweet things like 'OMG, the bear is loose!' when the President is out of the White House."

In the urban gay male community, "bear" has a quite specific meaning, and it's not one that the White House would be particularly comfortable with.

If my Photoshop chops were stronger, I'd run up an image of Obama in the middle of a scene in the back room of a San Francisco "bear" bar. Can we get someone artful like Slublog on this, stat?

Richard Epstein, who actually is a deep and substantive legal scholar of long standing, was interviewed by _Reason_, and one of the topics was about Obama teaching con law in Chicago while Epstein was there.

Epstein was not especially impressed. He notes that Obama was an adjunct faculty member, who had no interest at all in the actual intellectual debates about the law in which the other active faculty would immerse themselves.

Posted by: Dang at June 30, 2014 02:53 PM (MNq6o)

It's no mystery.  He gave up his law license because someone filed a formal complaint with the Illinois Bar association that he lied on his Bar exam.  (Which he did.)

It was easier to voluntarily give up his license than it was to fight the charges and the humiliation of having it take away from him.  (Which he wouldn't be able to stop.)

What happened to Mooches is a bit harder to piece together.  I used to research this topic some years ago, and other than having had her licensed yanked by court order, very little provable information was available.

There were some people who alleged that she got caught in supporting some illegal activities by Chicago's Mayor, for whom she worked at the time.

I'll consider that a likely explanation till better evidence comes out.

So he will do whatever he wants, no one will stop him, and the LIVs and FSA will cheer.

286 An observation:  Obama does not know how to do normal incremental politics.  He does all or nothing, everything on one roll of the dice.  Do you realize how often that sort of thing works, and even then you need to have everything in your favor (see the size of teh Democrat majority in Congress needed to pass ObamaCare and how difficult it was for the Democrats to convince their own people to vote for it).  If you wonder why all of Obama's grand plans blow up it it is because he is the type of gambler who bets everything on one roll of the dice.

348 There is no "constitutional law scholar" in the White House (unless one is visiting there today). Obama was nothing more than a part-time grievance law lecturer. He has no legal publications to his name; not a single one. He wasn't even on tenure track at Chicago. They offered to put him on it, but he is so damn lazy that he refused; he can't write well, and he knows that he'd never get tenure without some scholarly legal publications to his credit. That's too much like real work, so he passed. The only reason Obama even had the Chicago teaching job is because of his skin color. His peers at Chicago (actual legal scholars) thought Obama was a lightweight intellectually. They were probably being far too generous in their assessment.

That should be University of Chicago, not Harvard.

A senior lecturer is one thing, a fully ranked law professor is another. Barack Obama was NOT a Constitutional Law Professor at the University of Chicago.

The University of Chicago released a statement in March 2008 saying Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) "served as a professor" in the law school-but that is a title Obama, who taught courses there part-time, never held, a spokesman for the school confirmed in 2008.

He did not hold the title of Professor of Law, said Marsha Ferziger Nagorsky, an Assistant Dean for Communications and Lecturer in Law at the University of Chicago School of Law.

Posted by: torquewrench I took an entire report's worth of photos of SF "bears" in action: http://www.zombietime.com/up_your_alley_2008/ Obama's the guy with the "Fuck" belt buckle, and the American public is "Total Toilet Pig."

497 I'm sure this has already been said, but when your boss is paying for it, by definition it US his/her business. And isn't it funny how the government says if THEY'RE paying for our healthcare, then how we eat, how much exercise we get is their business. But when the private sector is picking up the tab -- not the boss's business. And, yeah, WH: it's boss's, not bosses This administration kills me...

499 seen elsewhere (that Ben D link to the Federalist led me to this) from Big Squaw Warren: "Can't believe we live in a world where we'd even consider letting big corps deny women access to basic care based on vague moral objections." I can't wait till the feds make tofu mandatory in company cafeterias so vegans can't be denied their basic right to eat. No wonder so many Dems are excited about Warren instead of Hillary! in 2016.

States have already been ignoring Federal Laws...by making marijuana legal.

So if states can get away with that, then they can get away with ignoring a illegal 'law' issued by King Barky.

503 He does not practice law & is not in good standing with any bar association in any of the "57" states. So he's not a lawyer. And volumes could be filled on everything he does NOT know about the Constitution. To wit: "constitutional lawyer" is 0 for 2 in accurately describing the SCOAMF in the Oval Office.

504 "And then what would happen is the states said "Take your Federal Highway Funds and stick 'em where the sun don't shine"? "
Nothing. It happens every once a rare while. But that's like a crack addict passing on a particularly nice rock because he has to strap on the knee pads. Even the most conservative governors suddenly get all compliant when that money is threatened

511 Dude isn't -- and never has been -- a Constitutional scholar. He was an adjunct Con Law teacher, a perk he was likely given for the same reason he's been given everything else: because he's black and has nicely creased pants. Scholars write and publish on the areas of expertise. Please identify his august body of work so I can behold his genius.

512 510 505 from Big Squaw Warren: "Can't believe we live in a world where we'd even consider letting big corps deny women access to basic care based on vague moral objections." Oh, and Liawatha, just because you have vague morals doesn't mean others don't have clear strong ones. What an idiot. A fine example of the mental capacity of today's typical US Senator. We are so boned.

513 505 from Big Squaw Warren: "Can't believe we live in a world where we'd even consider letting big corps deny women access to basic care based on vague moral objections." So for Fauxcohantis the right to life for unborn children is a "vague moral objection." Nothing concrete like, say, pretending to be an Indian in order to score an Ivy League teaching job apparently.

518 The constitutional lawyer in the White House is so ignorant of the constitution that he can't even figure out that Hobby Lobby was not decided under the constitution at all. It was decided under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, an act that passed through two Democratically controlled branches of Congress in 1993 before being signed into law by a Democratic President. The opinion is based on the astonishingly simple logic that the word "person" in RFRA includes corporations because the Dictionary Act (which determines the meaning of all words in US statutes unless the statute itself gives a different definition) says that the term "persons" includes corporations.

520 Another, albeit nerdalicious, possibility about the moniker "the bear". Interviewees in Max Brooks' "World War Z" talk of the man who was vice-president when the world fell apart and who then became president when his former boss was incapacitated. This man, who's implied to be a black man (though with military experience--I always thought Brooks was using Colin Powell as his template), ends up with the nickname The Bear. A man respected by all and credited with putting the country back together. /nerdrant off

524 Hey, let's compare Barky's portfolio of published academic papers published, Constitutional cases argued, won and lost, etc. with those of the SCOTUS Justices, and see who has the best credentials. Roberts should challenge him mano a mano to compare records, and the loser blows the winner on the steps of the SC. Constitutional crisis averted!
