What the Media (The People I Trust To Make Decisions) Decided for Me about Wright
— Ace

1. Wright's anti-semitic, anti-American, hardcore Marxist radical hatred was entirely occluded from Obama, the world, and most especially the NYT until yesterday. It came as a complete shock to one and all, and no one should hold it against Obama that he cultivated a mutually advantageous political partnership with a Nazi for 20 years. Now he's "repudiated" the Nazi, and we all know that you can consort with Nazis for almost all of your adult life and then simply "repudiate" them at a press availability and the issue goes away entirely.

2. Obama's 20 year political partnership with Wright may raise questions about his judgment, but it is wrongful for his political opponents to raise such questions in campaign ads. Some questions, it seems, are properly raised, but silently, in deep personal meditation, perhaps on an alpine hill while reading Rilke. Certainly we do not need to audibly ask questions about a presidential candidate. That's just hurtful and corrosive of our political process, which relies, at its core, of utter trust in our political leaders without question.

3. Not only does Obama's very late-inning "disowning" of Wright completely insulate him from questions about their 20 year history together, it actually transforms Obama into an anti-Wright, the good, cleanshaven mirror-universe good version of the goateed evil version Wright. Whether or not a transporter malfunction is partly responsible for this is anyone's guess.

4. Obama gets to decide when the Wright issue is not legitimate. He mentioned it being legitimate the other day, now he rules it out as legitimate, stating he didn't want the press to associate him with Wright anymore. As will soon be apparent, Obama gets to decide on behalf our our independent media when an issue is and is not worthy of public discussion.

5. When Obama felt that Wright was defensible "in the context" of racial divides and the black church, he was defensible in the eyes of the MSM. When Obama felt he was no longer so defensible, the MSM agreed he wasn't.

6. In any event, it's time to MoveOn (TM) from this distraction, just as it was time to MoveOn (TM) from this distraction each time Obama, and his Liberal Media Spirit Squad, pronounced it so. Except this time, they really mean it. Case closed, "distancing" achieved, nothing to see here folks, move along.

7. There was nothing wrong with Wright's anti-American Marxist racist hatred until he paraded it in front of the public, with "context" provided by he himself, and thus threatened the Liberal Media Spirit Squad's boyfriend's chances of being elected. That, and that alone, was Wright's sin. And the one he must be repudiated for. Wright is guilty of preening, thinking it's "all about him," knifing his friend in the back, raising questions when Obama could least afford them, taking Obama off message, hurting Obama's political viability, etc. Wright's sins, in short, are your sins: Not caring enough about the political fortunes of one Barack Hussein Obama. And for those sins, we must all repent.

8. And this has nothing at all to do with Obama. Did I mention that?

Meanwhile, in an alternate universe, Adolf Hitler is "distancing" himself from Josef Goebbels, telling the German media that despite Goebbels' long-time position as Minister of Propaganda, the anti-semitic Goebbels "habt sprechen fur mich nicht" and that he no longer wants any questions about Goebbels' loose talk about a "Final Solution."

"Distancing." That's all it takes. Run a poll, decide someone is now a political liability, cut him loose, and you hit the reset button. You are no longer answerable at all for the lack of "distance" -- nay, the very real political and spiritual closeness -- with a lunatic racist you cultivated all of your adult life.

Just Got An Email From OJ Simpson! He says he wants to "distance himself" from the Rockingham murders, and that he also would like no longer to be asked about them. He says he "repudiates" those murders and finds them "shocking."

He also says he's running for sheriff and doesn't want any of these "distractions" to affect his chances.

Wow! This is Awesome! I just vote to Visa and Verizon and told them it was my wish to "distance myself" from any debts I may have incurred and strongly wished to "no longer be associated with them" nor "asked about them." Furthermore, I strongly stated these niggling questions about what I may have done in the past were "distractions" from my life's ambition of building a Robot Dog who catches Frisbees and solves crimes.

Now that the Wright skeleton is out of the closet, let's turn the attention to another of Baracky's buddies. This article by someone whom Ayers attempted to kill when the writer was only nine years old ( a year older than Baracky at the time) brings to life what demented, pathological murderers Ayers and the Weathermen were.

Ayers is a lot like Wright in that he is very narcissistic and is quite recalcitrant and flippant. Let's get the MSM to get him talking also.

Some questions, it seems, are properly raised, but silently, in deep personal meditation, perhaps on an alpine hill while reading Rilke. Certainly we do not need to audibly ask questions about a presidential candidate.

The Left dominates academia, the media, and both houses of Congress.  If the Democrats win the Presidency as well, we will have to satisy ourselves with questioning the authority of the Republican minority in Congress and speaking truth to the power of the conservative majority on the Supreme Court.

29 Look, people.  I have just finished pouring syrup on this delicious blueberry waffle.  Do you understand the implications of that?

If I don't eat this waffle immediately, then the warm syrup will begin cool and coagulate, ok?  There will be no harmony between the waffle and the syrup.  In fact, the waffle will begin to absorb the syrup and become a soggy, unpalatable mass of bread-like mush.

Do you understand what I'm saying?  I need to eat this waffle immediately or change will not occur and hope will die. Now, I know that all the racists out there would just love that, but I can't be distracted by all that.  I will attend to this waffle.  I must attend to this waffle.

Heather MacDonald has a really good article about Wright's speech and what authentic "blackness" is - she is, unsurprisingly, pretty disgusted by the whole thing, but the thing that stuck with me is that, by Wright's lights, Obama really isn't black at all - except for his actual skin and his attendance at Wright's church, he is a smart, middle class child of a white hippie who worked hard to get an Ivy League education.  When he realized that such people (smart, white lawyers) are about a dime a dozen and all that was not enough to achieve the high office that he wanted, then he focused on his race.

Wright was the key to that - his entrance to black politics in Chicago.  I think that Wright has just now figured that out, and that's why he is trying to torpedo Barry-O.  He got used and Barry didn't even have the courtesy to give him a reacharound.

While it was necessary, Mr. Obama's press conference yesterday was merely the final act in what seems like a Greek tragedy. And, while we can all empathize with the pathos of this episode it must also be recognized that the presser was simply another step in the evolution of the Senators position regarding the controversial Reverend Wright.

It reads almost like a chapter out of genesis. In the beginning there was Wright......Proffered as Mr. Obama's spiritual advisor-by both the candidate and his campaign-he was instrumental in the development of the crucial political base that ultimately catapulted Obama into the U.S. Senate. But, recognizing a potential liability he was scratched from the campaign's public kick-off because he said "some pretty hard things" in his sermons. Iteration 1...

Then Wright's hateful and divisive rhetoric becomes known to the national mainstream media, and is rightfully publicized; although never really to the extent, nor with the concomitant outrage, that it would have been for anyone else. At first he tried to explain away these terrible diatribes away as mere sound bites taken out if context. He went on to say that he had never heard any such hateful rhetoric in all his years at TUCC, and vouched for both Wrights character as well as his bona fides. Iteration 2...

But the controversy continued. As more evidence of Wright's true outlook surfaced Obama started to get hard questions about his weak response to the controversy (iteration 2-remember). Sensing that this most recent explanation would not play in Peoria-so to speak-Mr. Obama delivered his address in Philadelphia in March; an address that was breathlessly hailed as revolutionary, post racial, post partisan, and pronounced the matter closed (not so fast Keith Olbermann). In this address Mr. Obama said many things. Among these were the facts that racism still existed, shouldn't be decried as simply PC speak by the right wing haters, and, predictably, that government could get us out of this mess by seizing all the assets of rich folks and corporations and distributing it to the rest of us (a la class warfare). He also revised his excuses for the good Reverend. He put forth the out of context argument once again pointing out all of the fine work that TUCC did for Chicagoans. He also pointed out that Wright's outlook had been formed by his experiences with racism throughout his life-and therefore should be understood and implicitly tolerated by the oppressive society at large. He also deftly inserted the fact that he had indeed heard Wright say some controversial things but only on a very few occasions. The bottom line of his lauded speech was that Wright said some bad things over the years, Obama knew about it-but never heard the specific remarks that had been publicized, and we all had to understand and accept it. Iteration 3...

During the run up to the Pennsylvania primary Wright became a topic of discussion again in conjunction with "bittergate". Obama chose to address this latest eruption by going directly to the people in a legitimate, hard hitting, news forum-the View. Here he refined his iteration 3 excuses further. Now he claimed that he would have had to straighten out Wright on that hate speech-BUT-since Wright had retired and had apologized for the ugly remarks anyway he decided to let it all remain in the distant past. Although I never heard Wright's apology, the MSM did plenty of apologizing for him chastising anyone who brought up the subject as "spreading that poison" (as Joe Klein from Time put it). Iteration 4...

Which brings us to the present... If all Wright had done was appear on Bill Moyers cavalcade of softball questions, identity politics, and left wing propaganda agendas, as the erudite intellectual the MSM desperately wanted him to be then it would have been lauded by the punditry as proof that Wright, and Obama by extension, had been unfairly stigmatized by the forces of hate (read; anyone who doesn't buy into their agenda).

But Wright had to prove that he could out-hate everyone else. Not only did he re-iterate and re-inforce his known pronouncements, but he went a bit further over the edge revealing new twisted conspiracy fantasies and a dark separatist agenda. And then came the unkindest cut of all; he implied that Obama was merely denouncing him out of political expedience-that he was simply telling people what they wanted to hear to get elected. Enter yesterday's famous presser and Obama denunciation of Wright's ideals.Iteration 5...

It's a shame that it took his phony-baloney job being on the line to force the great reconciler to denounce obvious hateful speech, outlook, and intent. Furthermore, it still doesn't answer why the champion of great judgment tolerated, and in effect legitimized, this outlook for nearly 20 years-let alone subject his children to it. My intuition is that Wright's outlook obviously appealed to Obama's chip-on-the-shoulder wife.

Hitchcock commented extensively on the film depiction of direct violence as being unnecessary. He believed that given the proper set-up, your own imagination would connect the dots, as necessary, to provide a more horrible vignette than could ever be provided by the director. On his association with Wright, we can't rely on a direct answer from Obama so we can only fill in the blanks for ourselves. He better hope he hasn't set us up for a dramatic finale to his own political horror movie.

I was just going to call Visa and tell them about my desire to "distance myself" from the $10,000 cash withdrawal I made at 4am on Christmas Day 2002 from the lobby ATM of Roy's Booby Palace in East St. Louis, IL and how I felt their efforts to sue me into paying were "distractions" from my desire to spend my money on strippers, drugs, booze and penis enhancement surgery.  I hadn't even dialed the last number when one of Visa's lawyers jumped in through my window (I work on the 4th floor) and beat me within an inch of my life with a tire iron.  Although apparently he also does workers compensation litigation so he left me his card.

That lawyers name?  Barak Obama, I actually kind of thought is was weird how he kept telling me he hoped I would change my attitude, leave my comfort zone and pay Visa their money while he was beating me.  He also said that I am the one that he has been waiting for to pay Visa their money before someone gets killed.

I got a solution why don't we just give them separate schools, oh...we can't that is racist and unconstitutional. So Wright and his ilk are actually saying their greatest progress and success that people like MLK died over is a failure. King is so spinning in his grave right now, it is probably affecting the Earth's rotation as we speak.

Heck, since we're turning back the race relations clock fifty years, how about we all slap on the blackface and break out in a rousing chorus of "Camptown Races".

I can't wait for the Pixar remake of "Birth of a Nation".

Somebody earlier mentioned that by Wright's standards, Obama ain't much of a black man. Odd, since Wright is probably the whitest guy in that congregation.

If I didn't know better, and just saw a picture of Rev. Wright, I'd figure he was the milquetoast pastor of that weekly Sunday gathering of harmless old ladies around the corner at the sparsely-attended Episcopalian Church.

70 Great post, Ace. I laughed out loud at the OJ reference.

Sorry to quibble, but the OJ murders did not occur on Rockingham. They occurred on South Bundy Drive.
