Well Blow Me Over with a F'n' Feather: Study Says Occupy Movement Was Largely Rich & Overwhelmingly White
— Ace

But they got the Just Like You treatment.

Non-Hispanic whites constituted 62 percent of all respondents, though they make up only 33 percent of New York City residents. While only about a third of Americans hold bachelors’ degrees, 76 percent of respondents who had completed their education had a four-year college degree and 39 percent had graduate degrees. Among college graduates, more than a quarter went to top-ranked schools, which might help explain why the majority of graduates under 30 had some student debt. While 10 percent of participants were unemployed, 71 percent were employed in professional occupations. Eight percent were “blue collar.”

I wish I had a joke here, but I'm angry.

I'm sick of being lied to. The media is Orwellian, and voluntarily so.

Oh it's worse than that. Since federal aid is determined by the cost of the university relative to your ability to pay, there's a perverse incentive to keep costs high to keep getting federal aid.

The Chronicle of Higher Ed covered this at some point years ago.  University presidents specifically admitted to raising to tuition to avoid having federal aid cut.

Boycotts don't work - not enough people on "our side" are willing to give up their sports packages or movie channels or "can't miss TV" to make a difference.  Hell, we won't even cancel our local newspapers when they insult our intelligence by reprinting AP's Obama-approved press releases as "news"

Shaming doesn't work - the gutless pukes who claim to represent us still think there's some magic "balance" out there that they and their views will get if they only swallow one more time.  They don't have the balls to call out a piece of human sewage like Piers Morgan and say that he's human sewage.

Here's what would work - what works every time.  Violence.  For example -find the dishonest bastards at NBC who edited the Newtown "heckling" story.  Drag them out of their houses at night and hang them, with a sign around each of their necks reading "I Am A Propagandist."

Grab Chris Matthews.  Stand him up against a wall and shoot him, leaving a sign that says "I Am A Tool Of Party Media" on his bloated body.

Then you'll start seeing a change in behavior.

Hyperbole?  Perhaps.  Behavior not worthy of civilized people?  Certainly.  But the MFM are like anyone else; if there are no consequences for their behavior, there will be no reason for them to change.  They lie and will continue to lie because we let them get away with it.

As Boss Tweed sneered, "what are you going to do about it?"

Occupiers remind me of a certain band-fly from the old days. This was a guy, hung with the band to get girls. We were on the road, western regional tours. Finally he said, "Damn, I 'm broke!" I'm going to have to fly home."

And we never saw him again.

106 I just wish they'd get on with this "rich student loan forgiveness."

Because it will severely hurt and likely bankrupt a lot of banks; who've made a shitload in fees and interest and by re-selling and packaging.

Who will exit the student loan business; those who survive and ward off any new ones.

Which is fine, because the student loan market is under the federal government through Obamacare anyway.

Meaning: Higher spending and new, magical revenue streams to pay for it.

Or bankruptcy for the country. Either or.

But: Mostly bankruptcy.

And on a selfish level, it's really the only way I'll ever see a return on my "investments" via SS, Medicare and income taxes.

So, yeah: It's a bust-out and we'd better get on board--either get fleeced or take your cut.

Mao, of all people, devalued the 'revolutionary contributions' of the young, college-educated cohorts. He basically said that while they have a great deal of fervor and creativity when push came to shove they tended to disappear quickly.

Within our own, American, context there were 60s radicals that said Revolution would not happen until Southerners down on their farms also rose up.

181 They weren't protestin themselves. Not really. To the left, the 1% hasn't got much at all to do with wealth. That's a canard. What the 1% really is, is people who are successful through hard work and delayed gratification. You know, the old way. They hate people who did it the old way because it's a reminder that they're wrong, their economics is wrong, their culture is wrong, and their politics are wrong. It's more of a kick to God's nuts over having already figured it out than it is an economic movement. The economics are the window dressing and justification for the kick in the nuts.

Posted by: BlueStateRebel at January 30, 2013 12:26 PM (7ObY1) Blue State, I've been thinking about this since at least 2007, but only in the last couple days have i come up with a decent thesis statement: In the old-model totalitarian state, the government controlled the media. In the new-model totalitarian state, the media controls the government. Obama is 100% a creation of the leftist axis. He is a nothing in a suit. You don't go from nothing to being President Nothing without the media laying down the palm fronds alog your path.

204 OT but have you guys seen this, a letter to the editor in Morhead NC? And I am back in the good ole USofA, yeeeeah!!!! TO THE EDITOR: Republicans and “so-called” conservatives are at it again. They are claiming that the Constitution gives people the right to have guns without the permission of the government. If that were true, then how could New York and Chicago have laws against it? We Democrats are sick and tired of Republicans constantly using the Constitution to cover up their true plans, which are to make us all afraid of everyone else. Our great president came from a civilized part of the country where there is strict gun control, and he is only trying to bring the benefits of that more modern way of living to the rest of us. I don’t know the exact statistics, but I’m quite certain that Chicago is a lot safer that Morehead City, when it comes to gun violence. But do Republicans and conservatives listen to the voice of reason? No, of course not. All they want to do is whine and complain about how gun control and wealth redistribution violate the Constitution, as if the Constitution were all that great, anyway. There are a lot of things that need to be changed about the Constitution, I’d say, and President Obama needs to change it. The Republicans are just trying to stand in the way, because the president is black. They even dared to question whether he was born in this country. I think all this demonstrates that the Constitution needs to be amended when it comes to the qualifications for being president. Right now, it says that a person has to be 35 years old and be a natural born citizen. Well, that is obviously unfair because there are a great many otherwise qualified people who cannot run for president because their mothers had to have a C-section. But because the Constitution was written a hundred years ago, nobody even thought of the discrimination that would result from a doctor having to deliver a baby in this unnatural way. Now that we Democrats are in control of the government, that’s just one more thing we should change in our drive to make life fair. Please withhold my name because I don’t want to get crank calls. 212 Oh it's worse than that.

Simple solution: No federal college aid may be used anywhere other than a state school in your state of residence.  (If you need taxpayer money to get educated, you don't need to go to Harvard.)  The school is a cosigner on any student loans you receive.  The university president and faculty are personal cosigners (i.e., they put their personal assets up as collateral).

Yes  it was.  Basically,  the federal  government  conscripted  private  employers  to do its  dirty  work  because  they  knew  that would  lead  to  more taxes  collected.   It  was   and  is  a  terrible  idea.   If  there was anyway  to reverse  it, it should be done.

Further,  paychecks   should  be  much  better  designed.  They  should  show the total  cost of employment  -  at least the direct costs that can easily  be determiend.   They should show the employer portion of  federal  tax  returns,  how  much is paid  by  employer in healthcare costs, etc.

Err, how about no more Federal loans for simple? Simple would be for the Federal government to get the hell out of the market and stop distorting it.

States could still set up their own programs if they wished and private companies could offer whatever the hell they want to.

Why should a college loan be any different than any other loan?

260 The Republicans are just trying to stand in the way, because the president is black.

That was great commie Theodor Adorno's diagnosis of the '60s "revolutionaries" as well. And he didn't even know who Bill Ayers was.

Revolutionaries don't protest. Princesses whose daddy bought them the wrong color BMW for their sweet sixteen do.

279 See, OFA knew a while ago that the Republicans would nominate Romney. They read our fricking book! They knew that a rich white guy would be the nominee (so good thing we dodged the bullets of Perry, Bachmann, and Cain) so they did OWS for a whole damn year beforehand. And guess what, even we use the 1% v 99% nomenclature.

We all thought the dirty smelly hippies were ridiculous, but they were, to us. Just like that Lena Dunham thing. Yeah, ridiculous. But pasty pudgy white girls need love too.

Posted by: Golan Globus at January 30, 2013 12:07 PM (pZDxu)

Yes, we were outplayed across the board in the last election. In my view, OWS was designed to give face and voice to the class war dynamic in which the Democrats wanted to frame the election in the event of a probable/near-certain Romney nomination. Democratic Party strategy was geared to a Romney nomination because, by just about every traditional measure, Romney was the best candidate we could field. No doubt they had other Plan B strategies in place if Perry looked particularly strong or if Santorum managed to pull off a dark horse victory, but Romney was the likely choice from the beginning. No Plan B was necessary for Newt, I imagine. Gingrich would've probably self-destructed immediately upon receiving the nomination because that's how he rolls.

Let me try this again.  I’ll make it simple.  Bad behavior without consequences – real, painful consequences – only reinforces that behavior.  Right now, the media suffer no consequences for their bad.  Our “leaders” still appear on their “news” shows.  They still accept the premises of their biased questions.  They, in short, still treat them as if they were not active disinformation agents of the Party.  The media is being treated as if they were mistaken and not deliberately malicious.

If an NBC staffer, a Chris Matthews or a Brian Williams knew that, for example, hosting an interview with Melendez and never once asking him about his child rapes would result in, if not instant dismissal with no pension, an actual lynching, do you think he would be more likely to report the story or less?

Of course the disadvantages of violence are obvious.  Shoot a Matthews and he’s turned into a martyr.  Threaten to hang a Williams and you are more likely to end up with a newspaper full of pictures of kittehs and doggehs than one which reports on any news at all.  I am pointing out that if the same people who still blame Bush for the economy, who assist in the lie that Deadeye Barry is a skilled skeet shooter and who openly cry that the Second Amendment needs repealing were subject to an actual punishment for their malfeasance, they would be less likely to indulge in it.

Violence would be the shortest route.  A longer, and better route, would be boycotting.  But our side either will not or cannot boycott in large enough numbers to make the MFM change.  If the current state of affairs continues, where will it end?

A while back a famous blogger wrote that the Right needed to start 'vetting the media.' To go out and research the backgrounds of a few journos at a time. They aren't angels and they aren't used to being scrutinized in the public eye. Poke around long enough you will find messy divorces, DUIs, child endangerment, etc, etc, etc.

If the Right marshalled some resource at a handful of journos and turned them into laughingstocks, you wouldn't have to worry about either of your ideas.

The People's Front of Judea was more organized and more effective  than OWS.

They  (the PFJ)  could at least articulate what they were on about:

Join The Resistance!  The People's Front of Judea reserves the right not to recognize the following:    sanitation, medicine, irrigation, education, wine, roads, public order, the fresh water system, public health, peace,  the Judean People's Front,  and the Popular Front of Judea - Splitter!
