US Economy Joins In Conspiracy Against Obama
— Dave in Texas

2Q GDP expands a mere 1.7%.

Is there nothing American corporations won't do in order to damage our President and his party this November?

Have they no sense of decency?

World markets rise on US jobs data, debt hopes

LONDON (AP) -- European and American markets rose Thursday after U.S. economic data came in stronger than expected and as investors ultimately welcomed Ireland's effort to detail the costs of its massive bank bailout.

Whereas European stocks opened lower on fears of a flare-up in the debt crisis -- before Ireland announced it would sink more billions into its failed banks, Spain's public debt rating had been downgraded -- U.S. jobs and growth figures reassured the market.

You know, I really do think the Democrats have become completely brainwashed by their own rhetoric.  They're so used to Orwellian doublespeak that they look at the polls and see how badly they're going to be beaten in November, but they're infantile little brains flip the data on its head to convince them that they're actually winning. In a landslide.  Same goes for the economy, public support for Obamacare, global warming climate change disruption, and on, and on, and on.

88 There is this other economic problem now being called mortgage gate that is getting no news coverage:  from the highly paranoid yet very smart people at ZH:

Update: BN *JPMORGAN ASKS JUDGES TO DELAY RULINGS IN `PENDING MATTERS'

We predict that within a week, all banks will halt every foreclosure currently in process. Within a month, all foreclosures executed within the past 2-3 years will be retried, and millions of existing home sales will be put in jeopardy.

And like that, mortgage fraud goes global. JPM stock down on the news, as the American foreclosure process is now effectively shut down...

we discover that not only are servicers foreclosing on mortgages to which nobody apparently owns the title, but that servicers, representing such reputable firms as Deutsche Bank National Trust Company, are willing to counterfeit court summons in their pursuit of a clean and efficient foreclosure mill...

Apparently what’s happening is that private process servicer companies may not be serving people with summons, and are simply counterfeiting the documents so they can keep the fees without doing the work. That means that you could theoretically be foreclosed on without ever knowing there was even a foreclosure case against you

Perhaps learning how to drive a manual transmission would be preferable to grinding the gears and burning out the clutch.

And all the while, the Republicans and their fat-fuck friend are just standing there, laughing their asses off, because they know that, while you were inside the 7-11, buying their smokes and their Slurpees, they crawled under the car and put a big-ass zip-tie around the knuckle-joint, and that thing's under the car, slapping around and making a bunch of noise whenever the transmission is turning, just to scare the shit out of you.  So that thing's under there, making a bunch of noise, and you're freakin' out because you don't know what's going on, and you've never really driven a stick much anyway, and all the while this zip-tie is hampering our attempts to build a sustainable economy on sound progressive principles!  (applause)

Posted by: Hussein the Plumber at September 30, 2010 11:51 AM (RkRxq)

The "funding of this economy" is about to drop off the table in 2011. Why? Because as employers continue to pay more and more employees on 1099s, you're going to see tax fraud on a massive scale.

Big corporations will have to play by the book, but smaller companies - the under 50 employees crowd - will start paying people under the table for some or all of their pay. No benefits, just "Take your money, have a good weekend, and we'll see you Monday."

I worked for a guy who did this at his business. He had about 25 employees, and about a quarter of his employees' compensation was paid using checks. He simply included them in his general ledger as miscellaneous expenses. The employees loved it. They actually negotiated with him how much they wanted paid over the table. Usually, just enough to keep them eligible for food stamps, section 8 housing, etc.

He liked it because it reduced drastically what he had to send to the IRS (he always had a cash flow problem).

One other thing. He regarded the IRS as evil and mean, but basically incompetent. He had no fear of getting caught. I predict a whole bunch of small businesses doing much the same thing in the future - especially if Obama somehow gets re-elected.

Things are going to get so interesting next year ...

Ladies and gentlemen, I'll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with earmarks - we did.

But you can't hold a whole party responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole legislative system? And if the whole legislative system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our government in general? I put it to you, voters - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America.

Gentlemen!

142 More Rules and Regulations (and shear stupidity) and you are paying for it:

Federal copy editors are demanding the city change its 250,900 street signs -- such as these for Perry Avenue in The Bronx -- from the all-caps style used for more than a century to ones that capitalize only the first letters.

Changing BROADWAY to Broadway will save lives, the Federal Highway Administration contends in its updated Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, citing improved readability.
At $110 per sign, it will also cost the state $27.6 million, city officials said....Studies have shown that it is harder to read all-caps signs, and those extra milliseconds spent staring away from the road have been shown to increase the likelihood of accidents, particularly among older drivers, federal documents say. The new regulations also require a change in font from the standard highway typeface to Clearview, which was specially developed for this purpose. As a result, even numbered street signs will have to be replaced.

FWIW, I was the only employee who didn't take a part of my pay under the table. I think this is one reason why I was never accepted fully, and my ex-boss eventually pushed me out the door.

If this comes to pass, expect there to be another study in five-to-ten years about how we need to go back to CAPSLOCK signage because studies will show that it is harder to quickly interpret mixed-case signs involving lots of capital-i and lowercase-l letters.

Many wealthy Democratic patrons, who in the past have played major roles financing outside groups to help elect the party’s candidates, are largely sitting out these crucial midterm elections.

Democratic donors like George Soros, the bête noire of the right, and his fellow billionaire Peter B. Lewis, who each gave more than $20 million to Democratic-oriented groups in the 2004 election, appear to be holding back so far.

“Mr. Soros believes that he can be most effective by funding groups that promote progressive policy outcomes in areas such as health care, the environment and foreign policy,” said an adviser, Michael Vachon. “So he has opted to fund those activities.”

The absence of these Democratic megadonors is contributing to a huge disparity in spending between pro-Republican and pro-Democratic groups. The groups wield huge influence in many House and Senate races because they can take in contributions of unlimited size.
