Happy Tuesday.

Director of the USSS Julia Pierson will testify today before House Oversight about the recent security breach. WSJ has a timeline describing how the details of the incident have evolved.

Ed Morrissey is covering the Extraordinary Synod from the Vatican. What a cool opportunity.

A U.S. air strike last week almost took out a headquarters of our allies, the Free Syrian Army. Whoops. A lack of coordination with the FSA, which Obama proposes to train and arm, gets blamed.

Hundreds of thousands face the (extended) income- and citizenship-verification deadline today for Obamacare subsidies. "White House officials pointed to the health law's requirement that people who are proven to be ineligible for subsidies have to pay them back, but said additional guidance on how to do that will be provided later." Mmmhmm.

The U.S. and Afghanistan have signed a security pact to allow almost 10,000 U.S. troops to remain in the country.

The subsidy is set based on your estimated income for the coming year.  You can choose to accept all, some,  or  none of the subsidy  as a credit against your premium.  At tax return time is   the  time to settle up.  If you took all of the subsidy and your income turned out to be higher than estimated by enough to reduce your subsidy, you are supposed to have to payback the excess subsidy you took.

Likewise if  you took only some or none of the subsidy against your monthly premium, after settling up for the year you may be entitled  to a tax credit / refund.  Or not.

Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes.  Three quick stories today and, I hope, something for everyone.

At the Atlanta premiere of Gone With the Wind, an eleven-year old girl was given a choice: she could have a bicycle for Christmas, or she could meet Clark Gable.  Unhesitatingly, she chose Gable, and her parents pushed and shoved their way through the massing crowds to get to the King.  A smiling Gable, told of the girl's choice, kissed her, at which point the girl closed her eyes in ecstasy and exclaimed, "Now I am a woman!"

Have I ever told you of the Hillcrest  Country  Club in Hollywood?  It was founded in 1920  for the Jewish community in Hollywood, whose members were barred from  non-Jewish clubs.  For years, Friday afternoons were don't-miss days for Hillcrest members, since fellow members Jack Benny, George Jessel, Groucho Marx, Danny Kaye, Milton Berle and other comics would get together, have lunch and try out new material on each other (one lady member said it was the only place to hear all the latest jokes without commercial interruptions).

It seems that, one day, the most disliked member of the club dropped dead on the first tee while he was practicing swings with his driver.  When George Burns heard this, he turned to Danny Kaye and quipped, "I told you this was a tough course!"

And then there's a story about the great chess champion Alexander Alekhine.  It so happened that he once missed his train connection in a little Austrian village.  Killing time, he walked across the road to the local inn, where the village doctor sat behind a chess board, crowing over his forty-eighth consecutive victory.  "I am unbeatable," he preened.  Alekhine decieded to teach the doctor a lesson and challenged him to a game.  But to the champion's surprise, the doctor had him checkmated in twenty-one moves.

"You have developed an absolutely unique attack," marveled Alekhine.  "But I must ask you  why you never  used your rooks."

"You mean those pieces on the end?" the doctor responded.  "Around here, we've never learned how they move?"

And why don't we finish off with a little feminine pulchritude?  Today is the birthday of silent stars Lil Dagover and Renee Adoree.

Here's Dagover in 1932s The Woman From Monte Carlo:

And Adoree:

28 Afghanistan is NOT the place to make our stand. Iraq---maybe. History and topography tells us that Afghanistan is a no win situation. Iraq on the other hand WAS a "win" and would have been a great place to keep a permanent base. Consider, too, the shit ton we spent on an embassy there.

GOP casts Clinton as third term for Obama

It is a strategy Republicans say they unveiled just in time for the midterms.

Ummm -- they do know he got elected twice, right? In a walk both times? So, saying, "if you liked Obama you'll love Clinton" might not be the most effective approach.

University of California President Janet Napolitano directed the system's 10 campuses on Monday to create more gender-neutral restrooms and to allow students to update their records with a preferred name that does not necessarily match their legal name.

Students who have not legally changed their names will be allowed to choose a "preferred" name that will be used for class rosters, student ID cards, campus directories and other situations where a legal name is not required, such as a course transcript or financial aid form.

141 Hello Web Admin, I noticed that your On-Page SEO is is missing a few factors, for one you do not use all three H tags in your post, also I notice that you are not using bold or italics properly in your SEO optimization. On-Page SEO means more now than ever since the new Google update: Panda. No longer are backlinks and simply pinging or sending out a RSS feed the key to getting Google PageRank or Alexa Rankings, You now NEED On-Page SEO. So what is good On-Page SEO?First your keyword must appear in the title. Then it must appear in the URL.You have to optimize your keyword and make sure that it has a nice keyword density of 3-5% in your article with relevant LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing). Then you should spread all H1,H2,H3 tags in your article.Your Keyword should appear in your first paragraph and in the last sentence of the page. You should have relevant usage of Bold and italics of your keyword. There should be one internal link to a page on your blog and you should have one image with an alt tag that has your keyword....wait there's even more Now what if i told you there was a simple Wordpress plugin that does all the On-Page SEO, and automatically for you? That's right AUTOMATICALLY, just watch this 4minute video for more information at. Seo Plugin
