Happy Wednesday.

"Slutbag," "b--ch," "t--t," "c--t" <-- words a Democratic comms director used to describe a lowly intern. Tell me again about that War on Women. The comms director in question defender herself by saying she thought it was an "off the record" conversation. Everyone knows it's alright to call women slutbags as long as you do it off the record, right?

The new EPA chief is tired of talking about jobs: "Can we stop talking about environmental regulations killing jobs, please?" Sure thing, lady. Just as soon as you stop issuing environmental regulations that kill jobs.

There's a bizarre interview with Sen. McCain at the New Republic. I can't tell at what points he's joking or not. For example, "[a]m I happy? I’d like to be president of the United States." Okaaaaay.

14 4 There is no more GOP as an opposition party. It is now the Republican wing of the Democrat party. That McCain interview makes that clear. He talks about what a "Rock Star" Clinton was as Secretary of State. Never mind the whole dead ambassador thing. That's how you know none of these scandals will get pursued - when someone on the media isn't asking about them, Republicans act like they didn't happen.

Morning, all.

No story today, I'm afraid - I'm working on a longer piece that isn't quite ready, and I tipped back a few wet ones last night, so not really in any shape to put something together on short notice.

BTW, I don't think Ace ever reads my e-mails (not that he ought to care what I have to say), so if one of you cob-loggers who has his ear would tell him I think his  Ashamed of Patriotism  post is one of the best things I've read by him in a while, I'd appreciate it.

OK, one quick: someone, I don't know who, once described Katharine Hepburn's acting style:  "She traverses the gamut of emotions from A to B."

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

27 21 A prominent conservative needs to call for a third party. That hasn't happened. Posted by: Bevel Lemelisk at July 31, 2013 07:04 AM (hrAg/) I think Palin might do it depending upon what happens in 2014. Possibly Rand Paul too, but Palin has been making noises in that direction. I'm done with the GOP so if we get the Fat Mitt in 2016, I will stay home, so put a third party on the line.

Everyone always says a 3rd party will never work. I have always believed in, "If not me, then who? If not now, then when?". I am willing to work locally to support candidates who are down with the cause, but that just seems to lead to nowhere. Very frustrating.

He went around the room, then went back to the first intern, and tried to remember her name. “Monica,” he said. No, it was Stephanie. Then he called me “Monica.” Wrong again. He got the next three interns’ names wrong, and then called the whole thing off. I don't know what's funnier: Weiner's pathetic attempt to pop-psy his staff with a failed Tony Robbins-like round of "tell me your name and a single fact once and I'll remember you forever," or that he kept calling all the women (incorrectly), "Monica." Dr. Freud, your slip is showing. I also note that Olivia Nuzzi is smoking hot and can be in charge of staff administration in my office any time.

OK, I'll play along:

Candidate "A" runs on my ideal platform of balanced budgets, strong defense and cutting entitlement programs to the marrow.  I  GOTV for him and vote for him.

He gets in office.  Within a year, he makes noises about "compromise" and "accomodation," but I note that, without exception, his compromises always advance the Democrat platform.

Then, when he's up for election again, he tries moving back to his original stance, the one I supported him for.  OR, he runs again and touts his record of "reaching across the aisle to get things done."

He's running.  His opponent is a Democrat loon.  I don't have the time or money to run myself.

So, smart guy, why should I vote for Candidate A?

Does the republican party stand for reducing the size, scope and reach of the federal government? No. Does the republican party stand for lower taxes for all? No. Will the republican party fight against obamacare tooth and nail? No. What does the republican party actually stand for? The most urgent priority for thr GOP is currently how to snooker conservatives to accept the shit sandwhich of "comprehensive" immigration reform. The GOP died somewhere during George W Bush's tenure as president. They have lost their way and we are busy losing our country.

182 I just have a continuing problem for voting for someone with the label of "Republican" that believes in every tenet of the Democrat party agenda with just slightly less intensity.

If the country is going to hell in a handbasket, it doesn't matter much if the pedal is "all" the way to the floor or not, and when you know that the approved Republican candidate has zero intention of ever even trying to apply the brakes, it seems that it really doesn't matter.

With an unConsitutional Obamacare mandate on track to dominate our lives and generations after us, the Republicans field Mitt Romney, Father of Romneycare, to oppose a first term loser.

With our Southern border more porous than a Chinese sieve, the Republicans are busy planning to cooperate with the Dem agenda to allow millions of illegals to be rewarded with citizenship (with perks that "real" citizens won't get).

Sorry, I don't want to play anymore.

I love you J.J. and right now my BP is through the roof, so I get it.  I truly do.  I am done with the national GOP.  I retain my GOP registration because of primary voting.

However, in fair and honest elections, which are rare--not as rare as the sparkling unicorn farts used to co-gen the electricity for electric cars, but, still rare, voting for the GOP has its merits.  In Oklahoma, which has fair and honest elections complete with Voter ID, we now have both Senators, all our Congress Critters, the Governor, and both houses of the legislature in GOP hands.   This happened because Oklahoma is a naturally Conservative state and without cheating the Dims can't retain a stranglehold on power.

As I post, over and over again, to those of you living in states with problematic elections--get involved in your election boards, clean things up there and you can do more good for yourselves than stewing about secession and revolution.  It is a long, slow process, but, it works.  Perhaps, Soona or Wheatie can recall when and why Oklahoma reformed its election process--I seem to recall it was in response to having a Dem Governor who was so corrupt that he went to prison.  I think it was the early 80s, but, I could be wrong.  You see Oklahoma is still quaint enough that seeing a Governor go to prison was a wake-up call, not business as usual the way it is in Illinois.  Since then, one by one, the big Dems have lost their grip on the state--they still have some power, but, if you want to be a Dem in Oklahoma, you had best be a True Blue Dog or your days are numbered.

210 I think it is important to understand that political consultants and aides are earning money by their positions and whoever they support.   They have a vested interest in keeping their guy in.  Thus they will not (with few exceptions) take any risk.  Furthermore,  these people have the ear of the GOP Senators and Congressmen,  speaking with them daily and sometimes several times a day.

It's easy to dismiss individual upset citizens as cranks or extremists,  when the opinions are filtered through these hangers-on.  Then gradually,  the elected GOP start to mellow.  And those that don't get a note about a file NSA has.

I also have another point:  democrats are not all immoral anti-American far leftists.  YET they seem to stick together through elections.  Why is that?  Many pro-life democrats were betrayed by Obamacare,  yet they go ahead and vote democrat anyway.  Meanwhile,  here we are with Third Party threats and stay home threats and anger directed at those who do not do what we want?  Why aren't they, and why don't we have patience?

I am not saying that it is wrong to be angry.  I am wondering why we get mad at our candidates and the other side doesn't.

So your rebuttal is that the exeception proves the rule?  Ted Cruz is a nifty fellow, but I refuse to vote for a Chris Christie because Ted Cruz is a Republican.

As for Rand Paul, hell, he's shown himself to be just as much a political opportunist as the worst of them.

Bottom line..."we" won the party back in 1980 and the Establishment has been busy ever since then taking it back.  Hell, it's debateable as to whether "we" even won back in 1980...Reagan was forced to accept Bush as VP to get support from the Establishment Rs.

Your rebuttal would make more sense if the GOP leadership didn't act all embarassed that there are unapologetic defenders of conservatism in their sacred party ranks.

248 My fatalist attitude of late comes from realizing neither a third party nor going with the current GOP is going to do us much good.  We're fucked.

A third party, at this point in time, would simply guarantee a Dem win, just as Perot won the Presidency for Clinton.

What we really need to do is seize power in the GOP.  I had hoped the Tea Party movement was going to do just that.  The concentration on fiscal issues and smaller government without a lot of SoCon issues to muddy the waters was something I could get on board with.  Alas, that movement has fizzled.

I have been hoping the new libertarian movement might help as well, but it hasn't seemed to catch on nearly as well as I thought it might.

In any case, the only real path forward that I can see is a slow takeover of the GOP by primarying every RINO incumbent.  It's just that it would be easier if we could do this under the banner of a "movement" because it would be easier to get our LIV on board.

What's useless is voting for Graham, McCain, etc. thinking anything is ever going to change.  Are you advocating voting for McCain, Graham, etc. ("the problem and hindrance to their stated cause") or not?  In many instances, these people are fully entrenched and aren't going anywhere.  And therein lies the problem.  Huge war chests, support of the establishment, LIVers keep them in.  It's either them or the donk.  And this is where I've now drawn the line because I'm done.  The message will be sent one way or another.  Does this country ever move to the right? One inch?  A half an inch?  No, it does not.  It is in constant leftward motion.  As JJ says, the Republicans are just a wing of the Democrat party.  Now more than ever.  It's got to stop if there is any chance for America to survive.  And repeatedly casting votes for Republicans who are not true to our ideals isn't going to get us anywhere.

NEW PARTY WON and lasted because it had the winning platform to garner national support where the Whigs went limp in division. Anyway, until a new party organization is attempted, there's no telling whether that's harder or easier to accomplish electoral success via Constitutional Conservative Party than attempting to "cure" the GOP addicted to corruption while dissolving Constitutional Governance via Big Bro Gov as neoconservative authoritarianism -- "Because I Could" .

I would still like to see someone post a list of substantive policy differences between the Rovian Republican party establishment ruling class and the Democrat party; differences that are backed publicly by the major players in the Republican party.  Until then, I can't see much difference in the final outcome of an election being influenced by my vote or non-vote.

For example, having Sen Cruz speak against Obamacare is not a sufficient condition to make the parties differentiable.

Having said that, I will continue to vote R, but only because I believe most Republicans are not quite as evil as all Democrats are.

Posted by: maddogg at July 31, 2013 08:37 AM (OlN4e)

Ah yes, I got much the same   a   few weeks ago.   Yesterday I received my    official party "survey," wherein they ask questions like (to paraphrase), "Do you    think Obama sucks?" and "Do you think we suck less?"   Then you get to the very end and, of course, they're asking for money    (which is the whole reason for the damn survey in the first place).  They give you three options:

1) Yes, I'd like to donate to the GOP to help defeat Obammy's leftwing agenda, and here's how much I'll give.

2) No, I would not like to participate at this time, but I'll give you a voluntary donation of this amount anyway.  (Love this one -- wtf?)

or

3) No, I would not like to participate at this time,  but here's a $15 processing fee to pay for the processing of my survey.

There is no fourth option.

I naturally chose Option 2, and in the space where you're supposed to input how much you're going to donate, I wrote a big fat zero.  I filled in the rest of the survey, just because, and I'm going to send it back to them   so they have to pay the postage.  And I'm going to do what I did last time, which is I'm going to take Reince Preibus' letter -- which was included with the survey -- and I'm going to respond to each passage with a snarky, pithy, angry, or dismissive comment.  I'll stuff the letter back in the envelope with the money grubbing    survey and send teh whole thing back to DC.

It's therapeutic.  I recommend y'all do it, too, if you get the chance.

Not that I necessarily disagree with you, but could part of the problem with those "splinter" parties be that their platforms are batshit crazy?

What would a third party with actual sane policies do? How would it perform against the Free Shitters and the Communists?

What has to be remembered about the birth of the Republican party is that it replaced a dead party. Whigs went away, Republicans came in....

The difference today is that too many wealthy-type people are invested heavily in the Repubs. Most of them, I think, would go Democrat instead of new-party, as their positions are so much alike.

I have never in my life met, on average, a bigger group of rude, loud, hooray for me fuck you POS in my life. I would like to say present company excluded. 363 125 Nighthawk, #75: I had much the same experience, only I was reasonably nice to the poor woman. Told her I was fed up, that I gave in 2012 and they campaigned like they just didn't much care. I asked how on earth Mr. Priebus is still in charge of the RNC, after the debacle he presided over; I said that even if it wasn't his fault, he should take responsibility and resign. She told me she didn't want to see President Obama and his allies holding the White House and both houses of Congress. Let 'em, I said. They make a better case against themselves than the Republicans ever make against them. She asked me if I would consider giving $250. Now, if she'd said $20 I might have wavered. 365 Ah yes, I got much the same a few weeks ago. Yesterday I received my official party "survey," wherein they ask questions like (to paraphrase), "Do you think Obama sucks?" and "Do you think we suck less?" Then you get to the very end and, of course, they're asking for money (which is the whole reason for the damn survey in the first place). They give you three options: 1) 2) 3) There is no fourth option. Yes Obama sucks. No, you don't suck less. There is ALWAYS a 4th option. Handwritten response: 4) I'll send 1 symbolic Federal Reserve Note. But 1st, You Will Blow Me... And The Middle Class.

373 The USMC really makes it hard sometimes to hate all humanity. For the 5k at the Venetian Festival in Charlevoix, Lcpl Kerr opted to run the event wearing boots and utes and carrying a ruck sack. Several minutes after the other Marines he was with had finished, Lcpl Kerr still had not crossed the line. They feared his extreme level of motivation may have caused him injury and/or fatigue resulting in him dropping out of the race. Moments before they ran back through the course to recover their fellow Marine, Lcpl Kerr came around the last turn along with this small boy. The boy had become separated from those who he had started the race with. He asked Lcpl Kerr, “Sir? Will you please run with me?”. Throughout the course, Lcpl Kerr urged him on when the boy wanted to give up and ensured that the boy saw the course to completion where he was reunited with his party. By his unwavering commitment to help those in need through his ability to inspire others by his unequivocal level of motivation, Lcpl Kerr reflected great credit upon himself and was keeping in the highest traditions of the United States Marine Corps.

408 Sen. John McCain in a sit-down interview with The New Republic earlier this week called Fox News “schizophrenic” on immigration and suggested that tea party members were damaging to the Republican Party, touting negative messages that ran counter to Americans’ political will. The interview was conducted by Isaac Chotiner, for The New Republic. [...] The New Republic later raised the issue of immigration and asked, “If you watch Fox, there are all these segments on immigrants and crime and so on, and people get riled up, and then they want reform. It’s a difficult dynamic in the party.” Mr. McCain’s published response: “I think that Fox News is a bit schizophrenic. I saw a guy on ‘Hannity,’ maybe ‘Huckabee,’ and the guy said, ‘You know, the Chinese are coming across our border, and they are going to commit cyber attacks.’ … Honest to God!” Mr. McCain also said that he’d like to be president, and that Sarah Palin — his former vice presidential candidate and former governor of Alaska — maintained a positive message during the campaign, despite the negative influences of tea partiers. The question from The New Republic: “Do you draw any connection between her [Sarah Palin‘s] outlook and the group of congressional Republicans, tea partiers, that you had trouble with?” His answer: “No, because I think she had a positive message. A message that we would have less government, lower taxes, less regulation. Many in this group didn’t come to power to get things done. They came to power to keep things from getting done.” Kick this fuckin senile bastard out of the Party. Send a message

Did you know Randy Jackson from American Idol played base on the Frontiers album. and toured with the band?

I like Journey although I rarely listen to them now. Music takes us back to a place in time. A feeling, a success, a boner given to us by our first love when we danced to careless whisper. I like all music and I would never cheat myself of any of it.

431 >Defunding: The Framers’ Remedy for Presidential Lawlessness

<

http://tinyurl.com/lajvd28

"
President Obama does not have the authority to choose which parts of the law are enforced. In 1975, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled unanimously against President Richard Nixon’s inflated claims that he could selectively carry out the law. But going to court to keep presidents in line is slow and necessitates finding litigants to sue the president. The framers gave Congress a more practical way to resist a power-hungry president: defunding. Defunding is precisely what members of Congress are supposed to do when a president breaks the law. It’s checks and balances in action. Two centuries ago, the chief architect of the U.S. Constitution James Madison declared in Federalist No. 58 that Congress’s authority over spending is the “most complete and effectual tool” to stop a president from grabbing more power than the Constitution allows.

I hate John McCain.  Hate.  Loath.

Of course, I voted for him as the 'only electable choice possible', 'lesser of two evils', in 2008.  The vote I'm most ashamed of in my life.  Makes me feel dirty.  Thank you to the idiot republican primary voters.

Note to idiot republican primary voters:  I won't do it again.  Find someone who really believes in small government and personal liberty, and can *advocate* for those ideas, and I'll vote for that person.  Vote for a big government candidate with contempt for lovers of small government and liberty, and I'll vote 3rd party.    Choose wisely.

So nice it needed to posted twice. IN FULL

This is what's bugging us. NOT that now and then compromise has to happen to get anything done. Or that a Rep/Sen can decide once in a while that what they used to think was ok is now (after thought and briefings by staff) not so ok.

IT'S BECAUSE THEY DO IT EVERY FUCKING TIME AND KEEP ON DOING IT AND DENY DOING IT AND THEN WHEN ELECTION TIME COMES THEY LIE ABOUT IT.

That's why were Mad and not Taking it anymore.

443 340. "Another thing that bugs me about the Vote-GOP-No-Matter-What crew is that they aren't even consistent. " That GOP purity test, of who "deserves" the primary victory always has the party leadership endorsing and funding "the most electable". As if Mitt's colossal defeat were yet no lesson learned. As for choosing between a hardcore corrupt asshole and a problematic nitwit who'll vote against bigger government, how hard can the choice really be? As if "it's all about me" was monopolized by O'Donnell, and not every bit if not more applicable to the insider club endorsing the incumbent who lacked VOTER support in the primary, let alone the general ahead. Persistence. Obama bragged of his persistence. Democrats are persistent with their agenda. If ever a bill loses, it's reintroduced the next session until it passes and gets signed into law. (Each reintroduction amounts to a bigger yet comprehensive legislative reform package.) Not to be outdone, the bigger is better GOP Leadership have their own brand of persistence, sharing neoconservative authoritarian values across the aisle. It's the GOP that boasts of setting precedence for unconstitutional governance with the biggest deception ever, 'abandoning liberty in order to save liberty' with the Patriot Act with DHS, et al. More bureaucracy than anyone will ever know, every bit the complement to ObamaCare in usurping life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And regarding those Republican Washingtonians, especially those bragging that they spend their weekends at home in their own districts (talk about persistently wasting tax funds on traveling expenses), they persistently lie to their constituents.

453 One of the reasons I favor open carry of firearms is my experience in Vietnam; everyone was carrying loaded fully auto weapons and I noticed that even the people from NY and NJ were polite.

A large part of the reason that people are so confrontational on the Internet is that they think they are safe and out of range - so they say things they would never say face to face to someone who was carrying a twelve gauge pump.

The civilizing influence of firearms can't be underestimated.

Part of the reason that Democrats want to take guns away from people is that they are assholes, and they fervently wish to make the world safe for assholes.

I on the other hand want the world to be a dangerous place for assholes - to force them to stay hidden - as I would prefer them to be.

484 442 Bitter Clinger, I expected the "all is vanity" citation. Good reference, Eccl.9 All things come alike to all: there is one event unto all: For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion. Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. 11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. (catch this re: political party organization) 13 This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me: 14 There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it: 15 Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man. 16 Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard. 17 The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools. 18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good. (Eeyore, what big ears you have.)

I actually got to see Journey a few years ago when they were touring with Def Leppard.   The new frontman sounds JUST like steve Perry, btw; it was awesome.

Anyway, it was just a   week or so after    a local state trooper was killed in the line of duty in Manchester.   The whole group autographed a guitar to be auctioned off to raise funds for his family, and then they dedicated their performance of    "Lights" to him.

When the lights go down in the city,

And the sun shines on the bay,

Oh,    I wanna be there in my city...

Still brings a tear to my eye when I hear it on the radio.

495 I'm late to the game, but I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents Re the whole voting R from here on out. I take mine on an individual basis. I supported Mark Sanford, and voted for him three times from the primary, to the runoff, and finally in the general election. He screwed up his personal life, but he's a rock solid libertarian minded Republican. On the other hand, I will oppose Lindsay Graham in the inevitable primary, which he will probably win, and the in the general, I will vote for anyone but him. I'm sure that there will be a libertarian candidate who will most likely get my vote. When it comes to the 2016 primaries, I will work my ass off for, in order, Perry, Walker, Paul. If and when all three are knocked out of the race, I will vote libertarian if we get either Christie or Bush. I got angry with my libertarian friends who voted for Johnson last year. I understand now that they were right in the specifics.

510 GDP revised down, Federal Debt levels stuck at the same number 25 mil below the limit for months while Gov continues to issue new debt instruments.

Unemployment remains at the same level as population grows, fewer people added to payroll, labor participation rate continues to fall.

News media continues to report how health insurance will cost more, business will layoff to avoid the new cost levels of health insurance, business not hiring because of fear of higher cost of insurance, yet Obama promised HE PROMISED that health care would cost less and everyone shrugs and says, 'ya, so what are ya gonna do'.

News media continues to report Gov can't get it's shit together over health insurance exchanges, and no one knows what's going to happen in 9 weeks when people start trying to buy it.

Next year is another election year, health insurance is a huge question mark, long time democrats decide to retire, the GOP is STILL without a clue and everyone shrugs, 'what are ya gonna do'?

DETROIT! declares bankruptcy, unions demand their pensions because they were promised pensions in order to buy labor peace for SIXTY YEARS, and now the money has run out, and everybody shrugs 'cuz 'what are ya gonna do'?

I GOTV for him and vote for him. He gets in office. Within a year, he makes noises about "compromise" and "accomodation," but I note that, without exception, his compromises always advance the Democrat platform. Then, when he's up for election again, he tries moving back to his original stance, the one I supported him for. OR, he runs again and touts his record of "reaching across the aisle to get things done." He's running. His opponent is a Democrat loon. I don't have the time or money to run myself. 516 As to the R or 3rd debate: I have a minor amount of cred, I think, as one of the first last November to declare the GOP is Dead To Me. Nothing has changed in that regard. What I will say is that waiting until after 2014 is waiting too long--we should be laying the foundations for the replacement for the Whigs GOP already, as in starting last November. Sadly, I'm not clear anyone with the means to make this happen is particularly serious about putting an end to the eternal kabuki in DC. As such, I'm more interested in finding key elements of local community to reinforce so that something of worth survives the inevitable.

544 I think McCain is past it. This interview should be saved as proof. Bitching that Rumsfeld didn't send enough troops to Iraq, Obama took the troops out of Iraq too soon, we're losing Iraq because jailed insurgents are escaping and headed to Syria...then pissing on Gen. Dempsey for saying we need a lot of troops for Syria? Is he really blind to what he's saying?

545 McCain was never playing with a full deck. Not even before he went down in Viet Nam.

547 542 we'll see how to rebuild a national political movement against the ruling Democrat majority- free of any pretense that John McCain and John Boehner are necessary. -- Not odd, but predictably disappointing, noting that ace says that 'America Is Dead' and (purple avenger) Purp denies any way to maintain the American Ideal (Constitutional Governance protecting God Given inalienable human rights), just because... They won't bother trying. They've never even been down what they reference to be the rabbit hole of commitment, despite claims to the contrary. To eschew contact/involvement with the "uncomfortable" task of persistent DEDICATION to liberty is the height of their intellectual endeavors. Eeyore by any other name, what big ears you have. "Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good." Quit playing the Borg apologist propagandizing assimilation as if there is never any choice, never has been, never will be. That inalienable has no meaning, because to know otherwise makes you feel uncomfortable. Rather, I choose: "Your faith has made you whole. Go, and miss the mark no more."

548 @467 Kind of. According to Bill, Bluegrass was invented in Whiting, Ind.
Monroe worked at the Standard refinery there. He could throw an oil drum the length of a boxcar. I never actually heard whether that was full or empty.
