Time to once again Hail the Glorious Bounce from the Passage of the People's Glorious Healthcare Bill.

Mason/Dixon released a poll in Nevada showing Reid up 1 against Angle, 43-42. So, to the hand wringers around here last week, relax. Angle had a bad month. Her general election campaign rollout sucked, Reid got on the air early and hard and she lost her footing. She has stabilized. And, the last quarter, she outraised Reid.  And this poll continues the trend of polls that Reid does not get over 45 on. With the exception of one poll, Reid never gets above 45. The middle/undecided aren't heading for Reid, they just haven't decided where to go.

Rasmussen has a couple of polls out as well (and remember kids, if its Ras - its Hitler approved).  Has Toomey up on Sestak 45-39. Sestak made news yesterday when he announced he would prefer for Michelle Our Belle to campaign for him rather than "The One"....bet that one left a mark on the O's ego. Ras also has a new poll out of Washington showing Patty "Dumb as a Box of Rocks" Murray 2 points up on Dino Rossi, 49-47.  Washington could turn out to be a turnout race...so, any Washington morons/moronettes...go volunteer.

Finally, Ras had 2 polls out yesterday late, one confirming a St. Louis Post Dispatch poll from over the weekend showing Blunt over Carnahan by 6 and one for the first time ever showing the Republican beating Russ Feingold, 48-46. Feingold is another one of those guys that never breaks 46 in any poll.

All Hail the Glorious Bounce from the Passage of the People's Glorious Healthcare Bill.

Recovery Summer keeps rolling along!!!!

July 30 (Bloomberg) -- Growth in the U.S. slowed to a 2.4 percent annual rate in the second quarter, less than forecast, reflecting a larger trade deficit and an easing in consumer spending.

“The economy is muddling through,” Ethan Harris, head of North America economics at Bank of America-Merrill Lynch Global Research in New York, said in an interview after the report. “We’re probably not going to see a really strong number for a while. We need to see some pickup in job growth.”

But Barry has created 300 gazillion new jobs already. What else can he do? Maybe guest host The View for week will turn things around

Vic,

There will be short-term fluctuations above and below the long-term movement of the economy. They are measuring these and calling them growth. It is still far below what is needed to create enough jobs to return us to full employment (app. 5%), but it can't beat for a sound bite.

The sluggish economy and a 9.5 percent unemployment rate are eroding President Barack Obama's popularity and dimming Democrats' prospects in November's mid-term elections.

A Reuters-Ipsos poll this week showed only a 34 percent approval of Obama's handling of the economy and jobs compared to 46 percent who deemed it unsatisfactory.

BOSTON – Sen. John Kerry said he always intended to pay taxes in Massachusetts on his $7 million yacht but conceded he mishandled the public furor over his decision to dock the vessel in tax-free Rhode Island.

"I don't think I dealt with it fast enough, effectively enough. There's nobody to blame but myself for that," the Massachusetts Democrat told The Boston Globe for Friday's editions.

Kerry added that he did nothing legally wrong.

89 Today's exercise in irony is a multi-party effort.

To begin, the pretend journalists at MSNBC actually redid the opening segment of Hardball an account of even Chris Matthews being able to tell Howard Dean was an idiot (amazing, I know).  The specifics in this case were regarding where Breitbart's clip of Sherrod ended.

But then we have two takes on what happened and why...Mediaite's, and Newsbusters'.

So for those of  you who are thoroughly lost...the segment on whether or not the Brietbart video was cut for spin...was cut and replaced for spin...which fact has, itself, now been distorted for spin.

100 Just saw this subhead on an "opinion" piece at the NY Slimes:

In taking up the issue of voting rights for felons, the Supreme Court is forcing a public conversation about race on the Obama administration.

Since when are fucking felons supposed to be allowed to vote?

And what does this incredibly stupid notion have to do with race?

This, like the amnesty the Traitor-in-Chief's co-conspirators are going to force on us, is "about" one thing only: more Democrat voters.

After all, if we continue to disqualify felons from voting, neither the Dem base nor their leaders will be able to cast ballots. They'll have to rely on the faithful zombie voters.

from link:

"Modernizing the nation’s labor law is critical to expanding union membership—which in turn, will ensure conservatives become a permanent minority, as newly-empowered workers actively engage in political action and demand a new way of doing the nation’s business, like creating an economy that rewards Main Street and not just Wall Street. The freedom to form unions and bargain is critical to the progressive movement—when workers have the tools they need to build a better life, they have the power to improve their communities and the solidarity to make progressive political change throughout the nation."

This is a decision for the states and something the Fed gvt should not have any role in.

Couple this with the fact that the DOJ seems to be purposely disenfranchising soldiers because of their openly telling states that if they choose not to send ballots to soldiers in accordance with the law, the DOJ will not prosecute.

They are overtly trying to amplify the blocks of voters they see as helping them - criminals, by in large - while they openly seek to disenfranchise those who might hurt them - our soldiers.

These bastards are going to kill this country, one way or another.

Forgive me if this has been discussed here or another thread.  Has any one ever seen an administration govern by floating trial balloons as much as this one?  Seriously, all we ever get memos leaked, administration officials speaking off the record, etc. etc. about some new policy just to see how public opinion reacts.

It's maddening.

180 Has any one ever seen an administration govern by floating trial balloons as much as this one?

The Clinton years were about as bad.  The entire HillaryCare effort was almost nothing but competing analyses from federal and somewhat private research shops for whatever the task force would put into the wind.

Stances and communications on DADT, government shutdown, welfare reform, and handling the scandals (down to and including testimony under oath) were all tested by focus groups and decided in response to public opinion polls.

The big difference between now and then is that this administration's abject incompetence is something new.

231 I never imagined 'nationalized' health care or 'nationalized' auto companies either.

The nationalized companies and most of the other stuff haven't impacted most people personally yet. If they start nationalizing 401Ks it will hit a large portion of the working population immediately and directly.

Almost ALL of the major companies have gone to some kind of 401K and/or cash balance retirement program instead of the old retirement programs like out parents had. Mostly the only large employers left are union controlled government jobs.

If they do do it, I am sure that they will try to disguise it as some other "beneficial" program like bailing out 401Ks that have lost too much value and people are hurt in retirement.

The key will be whether or not the news actually reports it so people know it is coming.

Had to go to the LA Slimes website to find the location; Fucks News didn't think that detail worth noting.

It is perhaps less newsworthy than the "Breaking News!!!!" chattering class thinks. Welding shops tend to have lots of explosive gases in bottles and tanks. And the building wasn't that large...I know the location (in what used to be called "South-Central" LA) and there aren't many large structures there. Except for gubmint buildings.

From StrategyPage...

The coach of the North Korean national football (soccer) team has been expelled from the Communist Party, lost many economic perks, and is now working at a construction site. This is punishment for the North Korean team losing all three games in the recent World Cup competition. The coach's punishment is seen as a sign of progress, as past coach's of losing teams were sent to labor camps, which is often equivalent to a death sentence

Posted by: HH at July 30, 2010 06:59 AM (6oDXl)

253 I think SS has always been taxed as have unemployment benefits, go figure that.

Nope, SS used to not be taxed. Now it is taxed after you reach a certain level.  That was one of the "baby boomer" fixes way back in the 70s or 80s.

The first level of taxation applies to these base amounts:

Filing single income of $25,001 -$34,000Filing joint income of $32,001 - $44,000

One half of your base amount in this level equals the amount of SS benefits that is taxable. However, the amount taxed in this level can not be more than 1/2 of your total SS benefits. For example, if you are filing single and your base amount is $30,001 then you have $5,000 of income in this level. One half of that amount is $2500. So in this example, $2500 of your SS benefits are taxable (as long as that is not over 1/2 of your total SS benefits).

Why don't we just ditch the whole cocksucker and let a 40 year old guy like me take care of his own retirement?  Right now they are saying it goes totally tits up in 2037, which just happens to be the year I turn 67.....  Of course, they're lying.  It'll croak way earlier than that.

I would have loved to have done that way back when I was in my 20s. Too late now.

256 Heather, I just remember laying on the frozen, snowy ground at -10 degrees banging on frozen trailer brakes, sitting along the road with frozen fuel filters, getting stuck in loading docks some idiot is too cheap to salt let alone plow, crawling down I-94 from Mauston to Milwaukee at 30 MPH in blinding snow, heater in the truck blowing cold air. Yep, boredom looks good. Hope I can be bored one more winter and then only a couple more til retirement. Guess it's all how you look at it :-)

257 Herr Morgenholz: "How the hell is this breaking news?"

Well, I guess it's more breaking than sharks or L. Lohan's jail tips, so we have that going for us.

Hahahahahahaha.

Laura Ingraham, sitting in for O'Really, still wins the 8 p.m. time slot, proving O'Really ain't all that!

259 Oh-oh.  The new QDR has a section talking about radical Islamist extremism.  Somebody at the DoD didn't get the President's memo on this.

I think there's something brewing.  Newt all of the sudden came out on this yesterday.  He prob'ly got it from some old buddies in intel.

Didn't they do that thinking that the baby boomers were all "the millionaire next door" and shouldn't be taking it even if they paid in?  But now, all the boomers have lost most of the value in their homes (if they still have them), their IRA's are a mess.  I wonder how my generation is going to support their parents and pay all these taxes?

hannity has been talking about this for weeks, I wondered how he suddenly wanted to discuss it when he seemed to be wholeheartedly avoiding it heretofore.

262 Didn't they do that thinking that the baby boomers were all "the millionaire next door" and shouldn't be taking it even if they paid in?

Actually that is not far from wrong. The Dems always figure on these tax measures that they can get them by unindexed and inflation will make them applicable over the long haul.

When this thing was passed the amounts that were taxable were a small percentage of the then retirement income. In 1970 if you were getting $20,000/yr in retirement you were doing pretty good. by 2020 50 years later $20,000/yr is utter poverty and the average is at $50K/yr.

263 Well, if the NBPP ever intends to be the Guardian Angels of poll watching and just your all-around go-to guys for things that need doing in the future to make sure the people's voice is heard, then the actions of Senator Leahy today have certainly helped norm things in that direction.

From LAT slobber job article: But Obama remains the colossus of his administration — to a point where trouble anywhere in the world is often his to solve.

Wow- the President of the United States might have to solve a problem anywhere in the fucking world?

Maybe that's why we give him two fucking jumbo jets to fly around on, an Executive Branch staff of tens of thousands, worldwide instant communications, and the world's most seriously bad-assed military to use if the communication needs to really reach out and touch someone, in a life-changing (or ending) kind of way.

Barky, maybe you should sashay back to the office from the links, and check all that shit out.  Hmmmm... on second thought, just concentrate on that short game, okay?
