13 Catholic schools started it but now non-denominational schools are getting into the act. In this case the college has simply passed on the increased costs to the students rather than cancel insurance, which they require for all students.

Last year, the 19-year-old from Hutchinson, Kan. paid $600 for health insurance coverage. But in the fall, Johnson will have to pay $1,330 – an amount he said is “becoming unaffordable.”

Clearwater Christian College, a non-denominational school, on Tampa Bay, placed the blame squarely on ObamaCare.

Yes, Obama and Pelosi said your costs would go down.  Guess what?  They lied, but hell they are Democrats, they are physically incapable of doing nothing but lying.

20 Yet another FL Republican offering a version of the Dream Act.

Wading directly into the thorny immigration debate, a key House Republican on Wednesday introduced the GOP’s first version of the Dream Act in this Congress in a bill that would give a select group of high-achieving illegal immigrants the chance to become U.S. citizens.

Rep. David Rivera, Florida Republican, said his bill is designed to help students who likely had no say in their family’s decision to come to the U.S. illegally but who have studied hard enough to get into college.

“key” House Republican????  He is a junior House Republican with only 1 term in office.  Obviously pandering for some more Hispanic votes.  BTW, he has an ACU rating for last year of 72.  That is firmly in the RINO range.

28 Dragon has been successfully unberthed and has departed the vicinity of the International Space Station. The deorbit burn is planned for 10:51 am EDT with splashdown at 11:44. Once Dragon left the 200 meter "keep out sphere" around the ISS, NASA's involvement with this flight concluded. Hawthorne Mission Control will take it the rest of the way. It was mentioned in yesterday's press conference that this mission will be considered a success even if Dragon is lost on re-entry. None of the other ISS cargo vehicles have the capability of returning to Earth.

Thanks for the news, Vic.  And good morning, morons.

Today's the birthday of Irving Thalberg, the head of production for MGM.  He was known as a man who would go way over budget - even to bringing back the cast of a movie that had been shot a year before - to get everything right.  Adored by writers, directors and actors, Louis B. Mayer got jealous of his popularity and success and engineered a move to gradually ease him out of MGM, but Thalberg considerately died before it could happen.  The Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award is given to producers who show a continually high level of production quality.  Past winners include Billy Wilder, Steven Spielberg, Daryl Zanuck and Walt Disney.

And I liked Jaclyn Smith, but I was always a Kate Jackson man.  Something about that lean, brainy type.

Hey, anybody remember the episode of "Three's Company" when Janet wanted to get a boob job?  I was in my bunk for a week after that.

I wonder if Axelrod will be able to explain why 4.7% unemployment in MA is really, really bad but 8.7% unemployment nationally is good.

I would like someone to ask the Dems how components of the MA 4.7% and US 8.7% of the unemployment were calculated.  When you move people off the rolls because they quit looking as they have no expectation of success, that is a clear logical misapplication of the statistics (oh wait, I forgot, all US government statistics are based on misdirection).

I watched about 2 minutes of Chrissy M on 'Hardball' yesterday discussing Mitt's press release regarding Syria, supporting among other things, arming the opposition.  Chrissy had two lefty ex-military 'analysts' on and the burning question was 'Doesn't Romney realize the neo-cons are using him as a puppet, shilling for more war?  Someone who's never been in the military, no connection to the military, no ROTC, how does he have any credibility?  Unintended consequences if we arm those rabble'

Hey dummy, your 'Hype and Blame' guy has no credibility, no connection to the military, etc etc.    Of course he wasn't called on that hypocricisy by the fellow travelers.  And supporting the opposition in Libya by Prez Leading From Behind  has worked out so well....

I used to work at Labor so I have a different view.  You do that so you can compare apples to apples over time.  Otherwise you end up with data suppression issues.

U-6 is really the number that the MFM media should be using all the time instead of U-3.  But there are multiple measures of unemployment so that comparisons are consistent.

Concur that the press and the Dems, BIRM, constantly misstate the real number, but it's because they're picking the stats they like, not because Labor is being nefarious about it.

70 More proof MSNBC anchors are full of shit:

http://www.trevorloudon.com/

On MSNBC, on the 11 a.m. ET hour, hosted by Thomas Roberts, was this exchange:

Hogan Gidley, National Committee Director, Santorum Campaign:

“Earlier on a show on MSNBC when one of your anchors said, ‘How can Mitt Romney stand next to a guy who could embarrass him at any moment? I’m thinking to myself Barack Obama can be embarrassed at any moment by a guy he made vice president…You can’t be held accountable for everything people who support you say.

Thomas Roberts:

Are you really going to throw Joe Biden under the bus? Are you really comparing Joe Biden, one of this country’s most dignified and greatest political leaders, that can cross the bridge getting to both sides of the aisle and compare him to a Donald Trump? Do you really want to say that? You would compare him to the gaffe-tasticness of Donald Trump?

And in other news, city government officials are concerned about "gun violence."  Seriously, the  assholes are not worried about "danger to self or others" crazy people wandering around, shooting five people because they were banned from a fucking coffee shop.  They're not worried about gangs.  They're worried about fucking "gun violence" which doesn't exist.  They're worried about felons getting guns (not an unreasonable concern) but they don't think the felons are the problem.  They think the inanimate objects that cannot function without human intent are the problem.  Most days I love this place because the climate is heaven on earth, but I completely and utterly loathe the government here and hate one-party rule:  it just results in stupider and stupider officials until you think they can't get stupider any more, and it turns out you're WRONG.

81 52 Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Clitoris at May 31, 2012 07:23 AM (zF6Iw) Thalberg is one of films giants. He produced 53 pictures a year for MGM - essentially one a week, and had an uncanny gift for making flops into hits and hits into blockbusters. Mayer was very VERY jealous of him, but he knew what side of the bread the butter was on. However, he was a very frail man from childhood illness. Ultimately he took a long leave from the studio with wife Norma Shearer and friends Charlie Macarthur and Helen Hayes. Behind his back, Mayer brought in Mankiewicz, Selznick to produce and when he found out, Thalberg said Mayer "stabbed him in the back." He ultimately died soon after at 37 from heart failure. Amazingly, Thalberg NEVER took a screen credit. Going forward, there were many projects that he had green lit which kept MGM going even past the end of the war. He truly was "the boy genius" and so much more.

116 "abortion is a fundamental constitutional right"
the rant on this morning's radio...again

FUNDAMENTAL CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to live and let live

Summary execution with no recourse granted the victim, and no recognition of existence? Hardly. The exploited victim is biologically recycled for sale to aging and ill humans, profiting "medical" research? Abortion is not a fundamental constitutional right, is not the foundation from which any of our natural rights emerge. The right to abort a life is not the essence of anything in our Bill of Rights.  Rather, the opposite.

As with  men, regardless of gender, the woman's right to choose is the responsibility to NOT "accidentally" get pregnant, the right and responsibility to take necessary precautions to avoid unwanted pregnancy. The woman has the right to choose her own sterilization, as do men. Neither women nor men have the fundamental constitutional right to effectively sexually/intellectually/ economically molest/rape unwilling and non-consenting taxpayers. That such regularly occurs is not because such is a fundamental constitutional right.

Regardless of gender, do people have the right to order others to execute themselves despite complete innocence? Admittedly, people commit suicide. But can a law abiding person order a doctor, legislator or judge (for instance) to terminate that person's own life? Currently, no. And there's the rub. The adult is legally refused the right to give consent to be killed or request his/her own "mercy killing" to terminate incurable pain accompanying incurable illness. Whereas, the embryo growing each instant is a life force, fighting to live, fortifying its existence as it grows, with absolutely no intention to forfeit its own life because the mother wants it dead and forgotten as if it never was, its recognized value only as medical research plunder if not simply discarded.

An embryonic human life has as much relevance to natural rights as a birthed child or any human regardless of age. That the embryos' physical bodies are being usurped to benefit humans advanced in age proves that the embryo life matters, even if not appreciated for what it is, a LIFE its own. Consider, are the newborn, children, elderly and infirm Americans executed because they do not exist autonomously without physical care from the competent? Not yet, and most assuredly not in accordance with our Constitution and Bill of Rights.

People will do what they will, and think as they will. But that doesn't mean I should either give my mind or my taxes to enable the death of innocence.

I have the fundamental constitutional right to my view. And though I would not prevent a woman/girl from her determined private abortion, I would rather she not, I do not approve, and absolutely resent being unconstitutionally forced to pay for anyone's abortion. No US citizen has more fundamental constitutional rights than another.

Got called for a push poll by Barrett last night.  The guy asking the questions claimed that they were calling in my area, which is hilarious, since I'm in the most liberal part of the state.  If they're having to push poll here to convince people to go vote, they're in trouble.

The questions were trying to make a big deal of the John Doe investigation and how it was "Shady".  I laughed at that.  It was also funny when they asked if Walker should release his information about the investigation, when he legally cannot.

Ah, push polling.  It's hilarious.

141 "abortion is a fundamental constitutional right" To a leftist, a "fundamental human right" is anything a leftist decides it wants. There is a bill in Congress that would outlaw abortion for sex selection. So, under this law, it would be illegal to kill a baby because it's the wrong sex; but perfectly legitimate to kill a baby because you just bought a new wardrobe and your new clothes won't fit, or because the thought of shopping at CostCo disgusts you (as one fervent abortionista justified her "choice.") The Abortion Lobby may be evil, but they are consistent. They don't really care why the baby gets killed, so long as it gets killed.

Good grief. More to the Poland story:

>>The Poles wanted Lech Walesa to receive the medal on Karski's behalf, but the White House nixed the choice. Last year, during Mr. Obama's visit to Poland, the hero of Solidarity refused to attend a large gathering to meet the younger leader. Mr. Walesa felt entitled to a tete-a-tete. Administration officials told Polish journalists Mr. Walesa's presence was too "political" for this week's occasion. Poles read something else into it: Mr. Obama holds grudges. The counter snub was the talk of Poland last week.

171 14  The next ban on Bloomy's list will be the 6-pack.  I wonder if he knows you can buy multiple drinks at one time?

173 Will Bloomie ban 2-liters?

Posted by: nickless at May 31, 2012 04:22 AM (MMC8r)

174 How about free refills? A lot of the fast food joints let you fill (and refill) your own cup around here. Will Bloomie ban that, too?

175 Hey New Yorkers, isn't it nice to know that all of NYC's problems are solved, and all that remains is that some people are fat?  Man, I wish I could live in a city that wasn't hemorrhaging its affluent population, and had one of the highest tax rates in the country!

Oh.  Wait.  I do.  It's the folks in NYC who don't.

Nanny Bloomberg, don't you have bigger problems to worry about?

I hope not. Given his solution to people being overweight I'd hat to think how he'd solve bigger problems. Although maybe he could work on how to get the streets plowed in a snowstorm. Maybe he'll ban snow.

180 AP is reporting that the House has passed a new FDA bill (by a very large margin I might add). This bill will, surprisingly, add a bunch of new taxes on generic drugs to pay for more more more gubmint inspectors. Say goodbye to those $4 Walmart scrips, folks.

That's a prediction, not stated in the article. Oh, and did I say 'surprisingly'? My sarcasm runneth over.

The article says that wait times for new generic approvals will be cut dramatically, and that the little unpleasant incident in your mouth will be hardly noticeable.

The world is falling apart.

Now, you can’t publish proven facts on a blog, order a slurpee in New York or eat what you kill in Miami.  Where is the America we knew and loved?

The irony of all that is that the New drugs are approved in 10 months (if I'm reading correctly) whereas the Generics are approved in 30 months.  Without getting into the possiblity of "drug delivery problems" (e.g. if a coating is different the generic's delivery method could be different and you'd have different outcomes.) There's already tons of post release data for the generics safety and effectiveness from the name brand drug.  Those numbers should really be reversed.

Vic, after several years of taking "concentrated" B12, and using B12 patches recommended for my peripheral neuropathy, my NEW doctor gave me sample bottles of Lyrica to start at low dosage, and then build up.  On a scale of 1 to 10, my pain went from 8.5 down to 4.5-5.5.  It makes a big difference in activity, sleep, mood, etc..  Supposedly, a leveling of 400 mg. is recommended, and I am currently taking three 75mg/day.

Unless your other health issues prohibit it, you should ask the doc (not the oncologist) for his opinion.

Enjoy your day off from the city!  I mostly lurk, but look forward daily to your morning headlines.

Thanks, but what I have isn't pain.  It is a numbness and tingling.  Much the opposite of pain.

Well, mine started with numbness and tingling, then progressed to include burning pain.  Feet only.  I hope they can help you.  As someone up thread said, "it's a bitch getting old".

Off to work on multiple spreadsheet updates now.  I'm way behind.  I shouldn't have begun reading the ONT.

189 MARYLAND

A Cannibal from Nairobi/Kenya, naturalized US citizen now and full-time Morgan State University student, 12 days ago attacked a different student Joshua Caesar (unprovoked) with a baseball bat fracturing his skull, blinding him permanently, and breaking his shoulder and other bones. Kinyua was ordered held on $220,000 bond in that case. Evidently he was out of jail because now he's butchered and eaten his roommate. "He was calm and said very little to the judge."
