Happy Monday.

In case you missed it over the weekend, the Friday night document drop was a notice from the Obama Administration that it is sending the Palestinian Authority $192 million in aid, contrary to a Congressional ban.

WTC 1, the Freedom Tower, which will surpass 1,250 feet today, will taunt the Empire State Building (height: 1,250 feet) by lighting a blue and white color scheme this evening. Those colors were chosen to mock the Empire State Building’s controversial 2010 decision not to light the building in honor of the 100th anniversary of Mother Teresa’s birth. Didn't see that coming.

[Update - Andy]: As luck would have it, I visited the 9/11 memorial yesterday and took this picture of One WTC:

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today Monday is April 30, 2012.  On this day in 1803 Napoleon sold Louisiana to The United States  for what amounts to be about 40 cents and acre in today's money.  Most school history classes stress how it doubled the size of the country and started the manifest destiny movement.  Few talk about the absolute strategic value of the purchase due to access to the Mississippi River.

The new WTC building set to become the tallest building in NYC today.  Note that the tallest building in the US is now the Willis Tower in Chicago and Dubai has the tallest building in the  world at 2700 feet.

4 Once again Brit papers needed to talk bad about Obama.   Obama has held more reelection fundraisers than all the Presidents since Nixon combined.  He has been on a perpetual campaign since he was elected to the Senate in fact.

6 Porn king Larry Flint to vote for Obama despite his vocal criticism of him.  This will be a trend folks. Almost all these people yammering about Obama who voted for him before will vote for him again.  That is simply the way it works folks.  Again, as in all national elections, it will boil down to turnout in a few key swings States.  He who gets his base to the polls will win in a narrow victory.

7 Three judge panel in DC tells SC they have until today to explain the SC voter ID law if they want to use the law in this year's election.  This has been the Dems strategy all along, to drag this out past the election.   The explanation is very simple, the law is modeled directly after laws that the Supreme Court has already upheld.  That however is not good enough in this world of Obama EEOC tyranny. You must present reams of expensively collected data showing there is no disparity of impact.  Every bit of that BS is outside of the actual VRA and is a construct of the liberal courts and EEOC.

9 Burger King bowing to animal rights idiots for "cage free" eggs and pork.  This article asks if it will "pay off".  Of course not you idiots.  The average sausage biscuit eater doesn't give a shit about cages.  Al they want is a good sandwich at a reasonable price.   This will raise the price of their sandwiches.

10 In a move to help lower the costs to medicare the FDA wants to make a bunch of drugs OTC.  This includes drugs for cholesterol and high blood pressure. This will reduce the cost of Dr visits but will raise the price of drugs for most Americans because most insurance policies do not cover OTC drugs.  In addition, health savings accounts do not cover OTC drugs. So when pravastatin and metoprolol become OTC you will pay the full charge and will not even be able to use your health savings account.  The government hits you twice.   But then it doesn't answer the real question.  Is it safe?  The BP medicine is probably ok as long as you are tracking your own blood pressure.  But if you are taking statins you need a blood test every 6 months to look for liver damage.

What is the campaign pledge of a CinC Romney regarding the initiation of new interventionist wars: with/without Congressional Declaration of War?

Section V is the part giving everyone fits.  It is blatantly unconstitutional on two separate fronts. But it has been challenged many times. The first challenge was shortly after it passed and the liberal courts of the day made up some BS that said they could violate the Constitution and the actual law as long as it was for helping blacks.

The last challenge was not too long ago in a case from TX.  The Roberts court has this thing about BS stare decisis and they decided it was "settled law".

What we need is a court to rule that it is no longer a tool for helping anti-discrimination, but a political tool to aid the Dems in delaying anti-fraud measures.

So then I did a little research. We the peeeeple hold 500 million shares of GM. Per a Feb.14, 2012 CNN article, if they were sold at the then current price of $25.40 per share, we would show a loss of $12.7 billion. That is on top of the $7 billion we are already in the hole on the deal. Source:

http://tinyurl.com/7jckre3

So what is the current share price? $23.57

So gee, at 500 million shares that's another $750 million loss. The stock will have to reach $51 per share for us to break even.

Sigh.

In “The Presidents Club: Inside the World’s Most Exclusive Fraternity,” former staffers even use the word “treason” to describe Carter’s actions. “Carter gives the club a great gift, something for all the others to complain about,” the book by Time magazine’s Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy says. “When nothing seemed to unite the members, the club often bonded over what an annoying cuss Carter could be.” “He just had this habit of going off script that could be very annoying to them,” Gibbs said yesterday on CNN’s “State of the Union.” We recommend Wait till obama is an ex

I think I can say, without fear of contradiction, that Jesus does not make all the dog laws.

However, this is what happens when the government gets involved in "root causes" instead of punishable behaviors.  People didn't want to be bitten by dogs- instead of holding dog owners liable (to a degree that would make them sit up and beg notice), they instituted leash laws and such.  Then people complained about the leash laws, so they added to the existing laws, and, eventually, led to the mishmash you're trying to decipher now.

Posted by: AllenG (Dedicated Tenther) SMOD 2012 at April 30, 2012 04:05 AM (8y9MW)

143 BTW, a 22LR is not subsonic. At 25 yards it is about 1200 fps.  The speed of sound at sea level is about 1100 fps. You have to go down to a 22 short to get below that, and not the "high velocity" short.

And?  Most of the cars sold here are built here, and Americans invest fairly heavily in Toyota and Honda.  I really should have added Volkswagen in there, too, in fact.  All three are agitating to reduce some of the regulations on car sales- allowing things like true turbo-diesels, and lowering tariffs and such: all of which would be good for them, but also for consumers.

They're more "pro America" than GM or Chrysler, that's for sure.

Too bad they do not enforce it. What it does is make it easier to sue if someone's dog bites you. You could do that before, but this makes it easier.

One most people here do not understand is how their insurance company treats dog bites.  When I had my swimming pool built I went down to the insurance company to talk about fences and liability. They said it was smart to put up a fence but it would effect the cost of my insurance which would not change because of the pool.

They said the bottom line was that I was covered for one pool accident or one dog bite.  After that I was solely responsible.

Allen. Toyota and Honda are foreign companies?

My Toyota truck was built in San Antonio, TX
Toyota is also a client for our machine shop.
More American than GM or Ford

Every Honda Accord sold in North America is built in Marysville, OH.  BMW, Mercedes, Hyundai, and Nissan all have huge manufacturing presenc ein the U.S.  And...oh yes, the management is savvy enough to keep out the UAW.

I always try to buy Ford, but I will buy any of these before I ever purchase a GM or Chrysler vehicle.

Let me get this straight:  If Reagan decides (yes, covertly) to send aid to the Nicaraguan Contras (nominal Christians fighting commies) in the face of a congressional ban, that's high treason requiring endless months of breathless negative commentary from the New York Times, and endless months of outraged committee hearings on Capital Hill.

If Obama decides to overtly send aid to Hamas (nominal Muslims who murder Jews and other nominal Muslims),.that's nothing to worry about and nobody important, except for some morons on a right wing blog even notices and comments on it, before moving on to the next story:  Justice for SlayVon!

248 This piece of crap building that's standing on the grave of a truly great piece of architecture will always be nothing but a giant symbol of surrender to our shariah masters. I can "taunt" the Empire State Building all it wants, but the soulless designers and cowardly developers will never even understand that the ESB has more class and spirit than their giant glass penis can ever muster. Thank goodness the nation's biggest celebratory mosque will be just across the street, so jihadists can come from the world over to marvel at how we agreed to their demands to not rebuild the twin towers. They sure put us in our place. This is a disgrace for a nation that put man on the moon, and a city that other cities used to want to be.

Mitt Romney has just one brief, silent cameo in the Obama campaign's new seven-minute ad. The presumptive Republican nominee gets about as much screen time as former president George W. 268 In a move that could help the government trim its burgeoning health care costs, the Food and Drug Administration may soon permit Americans to obtain some drugs used to treat conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes without obtaining a prescription. The FDA says over-the-counter distribution would let patients get drugs for many common conditions without the time and expense of visiting a doctor, but medical providers call the change medically unsound and note that it also may mean that insurance no longer will pay for the drugs. The only one's who will save money is the Gov. If patients end up having to pay for those drugs, they will either not take them or end up paying a huge amount of money for them. Good luck with that one!

301 With no wind the windmill does not spin. The windmill extracts energy from the wind and in doing so slows down the wind. The windmills might produce more turbulence. Which might allow warm air to to transfer heat to the ground, but this is unlikely to work well. But, by slowing down the wind the windmills could reduce the ability of the air to remove heat from the ground. Ground temperature would not go up but it would stay up.

They ALSO lit up in red and white lights to honor Cardinal Dolan's rise to the cardinalcy (?). Because Empire won't use ANY lighting scheme to honor "a religious occasion," they said. (Though they do go red and green for Christmas and blue and white for the start of Hanukkah.)

Coolest thing about the Freedom Tower's lights? the men have to make the change by putting colored gels over each of the building's construction lights. So it's a real grass-roots thing and very laborious.
