Happy Monday.

On this (putative) last day to sign up on the Obamacare exchanges, Sen. Angus King, Maine's independent that caucuses with the Democrats, insists "there's no such thing as Obamacare." Apparently, if people would just use another term for the failing, unpopular health care law, it would change what it does.

Oh, and as I write this Healthcare.gov's login process is down. No, I'm not kidding. Maybe a late surge has overwhelmed the servers?

Meanwhile, Democrats are still trying to figure out how to campaign on Obamacare before November.

Keep those Ask the Blog questions coming.

1 Good Morning Morons.  Today is Monday, March 31, 2014.  On this day in 1918 DST went into effect in the United States.  It was later repealed in 1919.  Woodrow Wilson vetoed the repeal but was overridden by congress, Farmers hated it and merchants loved it.  Nothing much has changed except that there are fewer farmers and more merchants so we have it back permanently now.

6 Obama illegal alien catch and release.  Obama's ICE has released 68,000 criminal illegal aliens last year INTO the US.  On top of that 872,000 have been ordered out of the country and have not left because nobody is enforcing the law.  This by itself should be ground for impeachment.

8 Is this stupid or is Obama just trying to destroy the US?  He now wants to regulate cow farts and has ordered the dairy industry to reduce them.  There is only one way to do that and that is to get rid of cows and increase the price of milk and steak.

42 Dear God, Why do I keep fighting you off? One part of me wants you desparately, another part of me unknowingly pushes you back and runs away. What is there in me that so contradicts my desire for you? These transition days, these passage ways, are calling me to let go of old securities, to give myself over into your hands. Like Jesus who struggled with the pain I, too, fight the "let it all be done." Loneliness, lostness, non-belonging, all these hurts strike out at me, leaving me pained with this present goodbye. I want to be more but I fight the growing. I want to be new but I hang unto the old. I want to live but I won't face the dying. I want to be whole but cannot bear to gather up the pieces into one. Is it that I refuse to be out of control, to let the tears take their humbling journey, to allow my spirit to feel its depression, to stay with the insecurity of "no home"? Now is the time. You call to me, begging me to let you have my life, inviting me to taste the darkness so I can be filled with the light, allowing me to lose my direction so that I will find my way home to you. ---Joyce Rupp Praying Our Goodbyes And a hymn with lovely photos. As much as I am dying to lay this all at the feet of a politicized NHTSA thanks to Obama, this started under Bush and the bulk of the action occurred under Bush.

You could just as easily read this as a "Bush and his corporate cronies" story.

However, I'd prefer to read it as a "Greedy GM and incompetent bureaucracy story."  YMMV

I used dried tarragon as no fresh was available. By the way, this style of recipe works well with other ingredients and meats. The basic factor is browning the meat, then deglazing the pan with the veggies (onions) then adding the liquid and then simmering the meat. I've done a variant without using flour with chicken, leeks, chorizo and apple cider and it is amazingly good.

Is it paranoid or not paranoid enough to wonder if this isn't some type of planned outage in order to substantiate claims that, well, gosh golly gee whilikers, people tried but just couldn't enroll and it's not their fault and why do you want to punish them for something that's not their fault?

84 76  Well, since the Searchlight Drooling Pederast blew up the filibuster, we would only need 51 votes to override a SCOAMF Veto.

But Mitch McCocksickle will make sure that our party abides by the rules and will insist on 60 votes.

Thieving criminal whores, the lot of them.

Posted by: J.J. Sefton at March 31, 2014 07:33 AM (CMkNk)

The veto override and a cloture vote are two separate entities.  It takes a 2/3 majority in both houses to override a veto per the Constitution.  The 60 vote cloture rule is simply a Senate passed rule that can be revoked.

It is a bit depressing that the true believers seem to have such a monolithic and total control on the progressive dirty tricks agenda.  Every once in a while some small Democrat fish is caught, but the media span of attention can be measured in minutes.  The proof that there is an iron wall protecting the Democrats is that after all this time, not one of Barry's documents have leaked (transcripts, application, etc.).

So now it's being reported that 4 out of 5 Obamacare sign-ups are getting taxpayer-funded subsidies to "pay" for their policies.  That's 80% who can't afford to buy an "Affordable Care" policy with their own funds.  Eighty percent.

Just more "re-distributing" of the American middle class' rapidly-dwindling wealth, right Barry?  Who cares if John Q. Public doesn't have a job and can't afford to pay his bills! He's probably a white raaaaacist xenophobe anyway!  The important thing is that thousands of illegal aliens who didn't have taxpayer-funded health care (other than the ER, of course), can now get their colonoscopies, liver transplants, and sex-change operations paid for by U.S. taxpayers.  Social justice, baby!

169 I have two predictions re: Obamacare. 1) The mandate "tax" will be waived. It's already been functionally waived through introducing loopholes, but I suspect they'll just "officially" (by King Barky's decree) waive it. 2) More disturbingly, I suspect they'll also waive subsidy overpayment recapture. If people start to piece together more money, they'll get bit on their taxes around this time next year. When a collective freakout happens, I expect Barky to declare "we don't need that money back." I'm more concerned if #2 becomes the reality. Mostly because it would openly encourage deceit.

193 The Arkansas video concerning Common Core raises the little mentioned issue of data collection about students. To get around legal prohibitions, the Feds have encouraged private non-profits and for-profits performing functions in support of common core to collect data about individual students. This is mirrored in the college application process, as so many schools now REQUIRE students to use Naviance in college applications. Naviance is a private, for-profit company that collects all information about college-bound students and the only limits on what it does with all the information is contained in the company Privacy Policy. The PP can be changed at any time by the company. The information is kept forever. Does this scare you? It should.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at March 31, 2014 08:58 AM (XyM/Y) Quick check on google: In 2014, the penalty is the greater of a flat $95 per adult and $47.50 per child under age 18, up to a maximum of $285 per family, or 1 percent of your family’s modified adjusted gross income that is over the threshold the requires you to file a tax return. That threshold is $10,150 for an individual, $13,050 for a head of household and $20,300 for a married couple filing jointly. Next year the penalty increases to $325 per adult or 2 percent of income, and in 2016 it will be the greater of $695 or 2.5 percent of income.

245 So if you already have insurance and didn't sign up for Obamacare you still get the penalties? What happpens if you go to a Christian share medical thing? Is anybody else here who expects money back from taxes not signing up for Obamacare?

246 Rachael Ray is really effing up her brand with this Obamacare crap. Varney just said she'll have Joe Biden on her show today to plug for (see what I did there?) Obamacare.

248 "...it might be better to pray (if one is a Christian praying person, I mean) that she is healed and comes to repent of her sins, experience a real Christian conversion and is filled with the fruit of the spirit." —FenelonSpoke I'm all for it, but my inner cynic, for some reason, is reminded of the old conundrum, can God make a rock buffet than he can lift? Lately, I've been pondering the Spirit of Truth. What is it/he/she up to? In a world so deeply infected by the Prince of Lies, with untruths being what the public mostly gets, seems t'me a lot more Truth would be helpful. Mr Jesus, could we crank up the SoT to 11sies, please?

I thought you meant you had no insurance and didn't sign up.

250 Thanks for the info, Tami. I'm surprised they didn't bake a little thing into it that everybody (whether they have insurance or not) has to sign up. Perhaps that will be another Obama addeddum to the law.

251 We're only eight hours from the administration announcing that over seven million people have signed up for obamacare.

253 To a certain extent Sen Angus "Burger" King is correct. Not about the functioning, of course, that's just typical Dim koo-koo bananas reality denial. But if everyone one was using their phony-baloney scam propaganda name "Affordable Care Act", well- You've sort of already lost the argument because you're arguing against "care" that's "affordable". Saying Obamacare overturns all of that. Hopefully, the stupid party will take note of this a use a snarky name for all Dim bills in the future. I won't hold my breath till that happens.

What I would wish upon them is obscurity, which is something that likely terrifies them.
