2012 approaching Morons!

What will most likely be the first GOP presidential debate for 2012 will be hosted in SC on May 5th.

No word of who will be there yet even as this Dem PR rag puts up a picture of eye of Newt.

I guess we can see who they want our candidate to be.

3  Softies like Newt showing up will only further the belief that the GOP doesn't get it, and strengthen Tea Party types to push their own.  Next Stop: GOP Marginalization.

Posted by: dogfish at December 31, 2010 02:29 AM (VZ2iQ)

4 Notice that the image says "stock photo". This is a Dem rag so it is in their interest to "marginalize" the GOP.

They are trying to name out candidate again.

They have no idea who will be at the debate.

Awm dogfish, give it a rest. You don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

The tail (i.e., the Tea Partiers) ain't about to wag the dog (i.e., the Republican Party). The Tea Partiers need the Republican Party. The Republican Party doesn't need the Tea Partiers. If you disagree, form your own third party and see how many votes you get. If Tea Partiers can't be team players, they can go screw themselves. BTW, most Tea Partiers don't share your screwy attitude on that issue. They have more sense.

8 Brian, your argument is a non-sequitor.  My "own third party" would suck.  Dumbass.  If Republicans CONTINUE to shit on what folks want just as the Dems do, then what other choice does the US citizen have?  Continue taking it in the ass?  Newt and his couching sitting episode with Nanny Pelosi was the last I want to see of him.

16 I am convinced that all this China saber rattling - and I am not convinced that there really is a lot of saber rattling, just a few things that people are making a lot of noise about - is like the SNL skit where they say what they want BEFORE YOU DO SEX TO ME!!! It's not a serious military threat, just some big stick back up to their banks saying, hey, knock that QE2 shiznit off. I am thinking of the carrier buster - the more I think of it, the less it makes sense. A ballistic missile to take out a carrier? Carriers move, and in the grander scheme, are small targets when coming down from way up in the sky, and are also big pieces of equipment so you'll need a big warhead to really blow it up, or a nuke, and if they are gonna nuke a carrier well say hello to my little friend, okay? Its a fairly expensive and low probability way to attack a carrier, especially since we have working ballistic missile defense in our carrier groups. A top shot on a carrier is the best kind if you want to take it out of commission, so a high altitude cruise missile that takes a very steep (maybe even 90 degree) glide path (or better yet rocket path) down with lots of jinks in the terminal guidance would be very hard to defend against with what we have now - you can't shoot CIWS straight up and BMD expects ballistic flight and the fighters might be the best way to counter it, but rocket propel the terminal phase there won't be much chance. So, let's say the Chinese seem unthrilled with the idea of US inflation.

22 I am thinking of the carrier buster - the more I think of it, the less it makes sense.

I said the same thing on the ONT the other night when a link was posted for that. There has to be something else going on.

A ballistic missile is not the weapon to take out a carrier. First you have to find it and that is NOT as easy as the movies make out. We once hid from the Russians while heading over to WESPAC and they tried to find us for their traditional bear flyover. They never did find us yet we knew exactly where their bombers were every step of the way.

Once they find the carrier they have to launch. We will know as soon as they launch. It is normally a 30 min flight time to targets in the Pacific. A carrier can move a LONG way in 30 min.

The optimal weapon to take out a carrier is a sub, if not that a massive short range missile strike from a surface fleet to overwhelm the defenses.

I think those things are a long way off. The course correction and ability to hit a moving target as small (yes it's small from space) as a carrier is rough.

If we can get along with China for another 20 years or so(maybe less), things will be ok. Demographically they are fucked.

36 Right after Hurricane Katrina,  Newt was on Fox and said "What the president needs to do is form a Marshall Plan for the Gulf Coast,  in order to pump money into rebuilding the economy."  ( For those who do not know,  a "Marshall Plan" would have been a huge injection of federal money..)

So, Congress got all worried that people weren't thinking they were doing enough for the people of New Orleans,  so they passed all of that aid stuff,  including the gift cards,  the trailers, the money for new levee construction,  etc. etc.

So,  about a year later,  after it turned out that a bunch of the money had been stolen,  the trailers were full of formaldehyde,  the gift cards had been used for lap dances and casinos and designer purses,  and everyone was on a tear about the corruption and waste,  Newt appears on Fox again.

And he said, "Well this is what you get when the federal government gets involved in something like this.  It should have been handled by the private sector."

Besides learning that I could restrain myself and not shoot my television, I learned that Newt is a publicity hound and opportunist,  who is going to take whatever is publicly popular, sometimes putting a conservative spin on it,  sometimes not.

So Newt sitting on the sofa with Pelosi chatting about global warming shouldn't have surprised us.  Now that the jig is up on the global warming scam,  he will probably appear with Henryk Svenmark talking about how we all should have known that climate is controlled by cosmic rays.

He's an opportunist.  No Newt.

Still, growing assertiveness of the Chinese is concerning.  We'd best keep an eye on them.

Who knows what Loral has sold the Chicoms lately? The concept is perfectly feasible and some of it is rather old technology.

It's perfect asymmetric warfare. For the price of maybe one carrier group you acquire the means to destroy every carrier group sent to Taiwan. And it's much more difficult to defend from than submarines, which China already has.

46 Vic,  I watched that whole thing unfold in real time,  because there was a gal on Free Republic who posted all of the bulletins,  reports from Louisiana posters, weather reports,  etc.  in one massive hurricane thread.

The failure to evacuate was because of Nagin and Blanco's refusal to issue the order.

I remain convinced this was done for political purposes,  and what we saw in Katrina was what would have happened had we had a terrorist attack.

At any rate,  enough about that.   New Orleans has had enough help.  I await the massive outpouring of aid for the western states hit by the blizzards.  Not holding my breath.

47

The summer we moved to Waterloo (in the summer of Katrina), we couldn't get our trailer moved to our lot (which we were paying for) for about a month or so (even though we had paid our deposit of a few thou) because FEMA had every moving company busting their humps to move "temporary trailers" to all the trailer parks.  Btw, I hadn't been in any of the temporary trailers, but they looked to be about the same caliber of all the permanent trailers in the trailer parks.

We finally got the company to move our trailer by reminding them the they'd had our check for a few thou for a month and we were waiting patiently but we really needed to get our trailer up and operating, thank you.

Now he just plays an endless game of "will he or won't he" coy to stay relevant, topical, and marketable. Principle has nothing to do with it.

What is it about "fire in teh belly" that Media crave for the public to laud?  So Newt spouts shit geysers, and we're stuck wading through his shit fall-out. They laugh all the way to the bank while we're stuck with compounded bail-outs.

Let Newt play the party cheerleader as he bulldogged the reporter attempting to tease a Palin attack at the GOP '08 Convention, but certainly not Newt the team captain -- been there, done that with cloak and dagger House Speaker knifing the young conservative newly elected conservative Republicans in the back last time. Never again.

AS IF today's voters, largely in favor of the Tea Party protest of government corruption, want the saboteur der Newt decapitating conservatism now. It isn't as if he was ever a fiscal conservative, nor has he ever worked to restrain authoritarianism. Newt's as progressive as can be imagined in real time, monumental disaster.

I'd hope that the Tea Party movement has made inroads on that "fire in teh belly" Affekt. Our present EXPECTATIONS reject revisionist Hollywood/Washingtonian scripted remakes.

I'm sure the Chicoms have better recon platforms in space than the Soviets did when you were in the navy.

Maneuverable reentry vehicles are 1980's technology.

30 minutes is the time a Russian ICBM would take to reach America -- a Chicom SRBM would take significantly less time to reach the waters around Taiwan.

There are significant, but not impossible, tech issues that would need to be addressed.

Simply blowing off the threat makes you sound like Lord Cherwell.

I posted this yesterday off topic on another thread so I figure it would be more appropriate here. These people are sicker than furries.

Off Topic, but this a a TOTALLY WTF article:

Transcending the Human, DIY Style

Lepht Anonym wants everyone to know the door to transcending normal human capabilities is no farther away than your own kitchen. It’s just going to hurt like a sonofabitch.

Anonym is a biohacker, a woman who has spent the last several years learning how to extend her own senses by putting tiny magnets and other electronic devices under her own skin, allowing her to feel electromagnetic fields, or – if her latest project works – even magnetic north.

Since doctors won’t help her, she does it in her own apartment, sterilizing her equipment (needles, scalpels, vegetable peelers) with vodka. Good anesthetic is largely impossible to buy, so she screams a little, and sometimes passes out. But it’s worth it, for what’s on the other side.

[ . . . ]

So she began experimenting with homebrewed sensors. The metal itself is extremely toxic, so she needed a coating to bioproof it, finding a solution ultimately in a silicon putty-like substance called Sugru. But hot-gun glue works fine too, she says. (“I have lots of things in me coated in hot-gun glue,” she says.)

[ . . . ]

The medical consequences can be both severe and likely to elicit hostility from doctors. She’s put herself in the hospital several times. She nearly lost a fingertip the first time she tried to implant a neodymium disc herself. Various experiments with bioproofing have failed, with implants rusting under her skin, or her own self-surgeries turning septic.

But if that list of horrors isn’t enough to scare someone off, she’s also eager to help others avoid some of the mistakes she’s made in learning.
------

There's even more crazy in the entire article.

I don't know; I was watching my Terps on Wednesday in the Bag of Dicks Bowl and there was continual reporting on a crawl of #666 being fined by assbreath Goodell.  Plus Vick had a pretty crummy game on Tuesday night which should've locked up the MVP for Brady.

68 Well, I have been trying to post here and simultaneously fix a stopped up/leaky sink drain (which I think is done now). But wifey just drug her sorry butt out of bed so I am going to fix some breakfast.

Back later folks.

That would've been a very nice ONT link.

Posted by: CDR M at December 31, 2010 09:10 AM (5I8G0)

I was thinking that, too. The problem is that the cob-loggers seem to play musical chairs over who posts the ONT so I didn't know who to send it to. If you have any clue please forward the article. I'm sure the ONT moron crowd would find it interesting.

70 Like you'd send a carrier group somewhere where your subs aren't already in and ready to shread red subs. It is amazingly difficult tho. Be a crazy plot the dot party

Do chi coms demag thier subs? or would it be easy pickings for the ASU forces...

The Chinese have threatened to use nuclear missiles on our carrier groups.  And this isn't a new threat - they issued that back in 1996 during a Taiwanese Presidential election (I forget why they specifically said that).

73 Those climate asshats just won't give and admit they have no fucking clue, and worse, have been fabricating their doomsday predictions - oh, pardon me - *scenarios* for decades in order to promote themselves and their political agenda. My favorite part of the article was how the one guy, apropos of nothing, drags Rush and Palin and W into it as cover, citing the fact that his equally inept colleagues support him, and that's all that matters. Well, my son's Special Olympics volleyball team supports him, too, but that doesn't mean they're winning any volleyball games. "Climatologists." Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

75 I watched that whole thing unfold in real time,

Ounce of prevention, pound of cure.

Yes, the misery of the Katrina "response" was and remains the failure to evacuate because of Nagin and Blanco's refusal to issue the order compounded by these two Democrat politicians refusing the Red Cross immediate authority to function relief aid where physically possible. Of course FEMA would be a royal fuck-up, being the nature of every federal bureaucracy.

Of all the blame Bush crap, it was another cya for Bloomberg this past week when NYC Chief Civil Engineer "extraordinaire" told everyone there to STFU.

77 For all the city street masterplanning, you'd think that during a blizzard, NYC would keep the bulldozers and snow plows moving through certain through-ways to maintain an open grid per square mile at least.

Good thing you're not laughing at those "radical" climatologists who called the Global Warming hoax all along -- ruining their professional careers given the prevalence of false, fabricated whole cloth science running the show, monopolizing the media, educational and industrial markets.

Funny thing about scholars. Some actually research while others take the money and run.

Posted by: CDR M at December 31, 2010 09:18 AM (5I8G0)

Yes

What I first had heard was that they were going to to some kind of short upgrade/refit and do a few more cruises then decommission it when one of the new ones came out. But then I saw and article later than said this adm wants to cut the Navy some more so it put all that in jeopardy.

I was on her in '69 and '70-time flies

Good Lord I hadn't heard that. Hell, you may as well get rid of the Marines if you are going to do that stupid shit.

We have to get this stupid CS MF commie regime out.

Posted by: Vic at December 31, 2010 04:57 AM (M9Ie6)

87 And speaking of this idiot regime Fox just asked the stupid question if we were going to have "bipartisanship" as Obambi the lying CS called for it < shows clip of Obama calling for bipartisanship> then discusses asshole "moving to the center to approve extending Bush tax cuts".

What an absolute crock of shit. Noty just any shit, this is slimy "baby's been eating creamed spinach shit". There has been ZERO bipartisanship in congress since the Dems took over in 2007. Bambi's definition of B/P was to call them to a conference and tell them this is what we are going to do because I won while the Dems locked them out of the conference room.

And now they want B/P?????

The they do one of their BS fair and balanced debates where they put a lying Dem on there who vomits forth one lie after another. None of which gets answered by the jellyfish squish Repub they found somewhere  in upstate NY.

Damn we need a news service bad.

... probably cause chaos in 20 years time
... trying to illustrate one possible outcome
... not making a specific prediction
... not predictions, sorry, scenarios
... at least in a general way actually come true
... may produce an ice-free Arctic Ocean

... the difference between an increase of nearly one degree and an increase of two degrees was 'definitely within the margin of error'
... every single colleague I have agrees with that

94 So is Brian some kinda weird concern Moby trying to drive a wedge in the conservative side by being an asshole, or is he just an asshole? Either way, I will respond: entitlement reeks. You think, oh, who else you gonna vote for? And why vote Republican? Fuck you that's why? You seem to think its about power and the entitlement to that power. But the Tea Partiers are more about principle than power. So Christine O'Donnell lost. Okay, but so did that Castle chump who figured, you know what, I'm a libtard running with an R next to my name, but really, who else are they gonna vote for. Not you, pal. Entitlement reeks no matter what party is putting on the airs. It's not Kennedy's seat or Biden's seat or Jim DeMint's seat - its the seat of the people. And WE get to say who sits in it. That's the whole point. And a Republican party that doesn't hear that, doesn't live by that, the Tea Party won't become a third party, it will make the GOP a third party.

Posted by: blaster at December 31, 2010 06:52 AM (MrMxG)

95 When a Democrat says that he wants to be bipartisan, he means he wants to be partisan, and Republicans to be bi. That's an old, old game.

97 Even with the deep partisan divide, Obama and Congress worked together in the lame-duck session. How can the Christian Science Monitor keep a straight face when "reporting" this?

With killer majorities in House and Senate, what exactly was "bipartisan," other than having the usual squishies on board when not even needed?

Posted by: Boris Yeltsin at December 31, 2010 08:43 AM (4sQwu)

98 what makes the greenland graph more interesting is when the history of western civilization is overlaid. warm periods tend to mark times of growth and development. "golden ages", so to speak. cold periods, or at least times when temperatures plummeted, are marked by times of higher change. that change often comes in the form of war, migration, and revolution. more recently, it was the renaissance-industrial era period.
