Happy Monday.

We're apparently still stuck in the holiday news slump. So, here's photos of the 38 Most Haunting Abandoned Places On Earth.

Lawgeeks may be interested in the recent and ongoing upheaval in Fourth Amendment law. Somewhat related, if you missed me on Vigilant Liberty Radio on Saturday talking about the NSA phone metadata program, you can get that right here.

Any thoughts from the Horde on that one?

Read it, thought it was very good.

Basically, it draws parallels between modern-day America and Israel just prior to its Babylonian captivity.  I found the parallels compelling, especially because post-9/11 American political leaders have unknowingly echoed many of the words and attitudes of Israel's pre-exilic leaders as recorded in Isaiah.

Morning, ‘rons and ‘ronettes.  Thanks for the morning briefing, Vic.

I’ve told you stories before of the tangle-tongued Sam Goldwyn and the crass, ill-educated Jack Warner.  Here’s one starring them both:

After the Second World War had ended, Field Marshal Montgomery paid a visit to Hollywood.  Goldwyn, always eager to demonstrate his power, arranged and hosted a dinner for him which included everybody who was anybody in Tinseltown.

When the time came for toasting, Goldwyn rose.  “It gives me great pleasure tonight to welcome to Hollywood a very distinguished soldier.  Ladies and gentlemen, I propose a toast to Marshall Field Montgomery.”

There was a stunned silence.  Then Jack Warner piped up.  “Montgomery Ward, you mean.”

Now, a picture: many moguls tried to make their inamoratas stars.  Very few succeeded.  In the 1930s, Goldwyn was besotted with Anna Sten, a Ukranian actress he saw as the new Garbo.  Of course, she wasn’t, and with the  cruel  nickname “Anna Stench”  ringing in her ears,  she left Hollywood.

And here she is in 1934s Anna:    http://tinyurl.com/fkzp5

Hope you all have a wonderful day.

43 "On this day in 1972 Nixon halted the bombing of North Vietnam. I was there." Yes, I was not there, being a iggerent 2S student, but I well remember, after the bombing ended, the treaty signing, the occupying armies, then the victory parades across the country, welcoming home our military, and how since then SVN joined S Korea as a powerful showcase for liberty and free enterprise. Made a young man so proud to be an American. Especially when they hung Jane Fonda. That was impressive. I was disappointed by Agnew's 2nd term administration, though. I'd hate to live in some alternative universe where things went differently.

47 All UE did was stretch the readjustment period.

All of every thing they did just extended the depression.

JUST. LIKE. FDR. DID.

I'm not one to say that people didn't try to find work because of UE. I will say that they didn't have to make some hard decisions about what they would do and whether they'd move.

Now we'll see a couple things happen: movement from loser states with high unemployment/non participation to states with jobs and more families in trouble and living rough for folks to actually see how the economy's really doing.

Funny how they waited till now to do that.

Actually when we left Vietnam it was in good shape and able to handle itself.  Of course the North immediately violated the treaty and then the Donks who had control of everything at the time cut off all aid to the South while China kept financing the North.

115 #109, Collard greens are not ubiquitous here in Oklahoma. I do enjoy them though. My family's tradition is just the black eyed peas. From the time we could eat solid food, my Dad would give each of us a spoonful for luck on New Years's Eve and New Year's Day. I do it it in remembrance of him.

123 Morning. I'm still angry over an LA Times article I read a couple days ago. I think Instapundit linked it; it's about how nice the people from Duck Dynasty are. >>The home base for the family is in the bayous of Ouachita Parish in the Monroe area of northeast Louisiana. I'm African American. Of course, logically, the question is: >>So some wondered whether I sensed any chill or hostility. These people think that the Robertsons are soooo racist and stupid, that during a publicity interview, they might not be able to hold in this racism. Give me a break. The people expecting the hostility are the ignorant bigots. >>Of all the celebrities I have talked to in the past year, the Robertsons rank at the top in terms of politeness, personality and warmth. They were gracious and cooperative during the photo session, and were responsive to my inquiries. Huh. I bet some of his friends have realized the error of their ways now. Just kidding. They will remain isolated from anyone who doesn't think and sound just like them. Their loss.

156 Report: Obama to Hand Over Christian Holy Sites to Palestinian Thugs

Posted by Jim Hoft on Sunday, December 29, 2013, 9:13 PM

Once again Barack Obama is going to push Israel to hand over half of Jerusalem, the Wailing Wall, The Temple Mount, Old Jerusalem, and the tomb of Jesus Christ to the Hamas-Fatah terrorists.

157 That the NYT would stoop to new lows by reporting old news as new news isn't so surprising, but to do it as some sort of strategy to boost that fat assed, drunken nag Shrillary seems a waste of any potential shred of much needed credibility. That screeching crone will be running on a record of frequent flyer miles, and both the willful ignorance of consulate security and her hubby's cigar tricks. …..and alcohol fumes

159 I listened to the podcast on my iPhone Friday at work & have never listened to one before. I had it on because all the regular radio show hosts had subs and none were worth listening to. I didn’t expect so many F words. If I decide to listen to it again, I will use the ear buds. My boss walked by as some said the F word among others.

160 I've never been sure why the Ds think they're better off at having our embassy destroyed and ambassador and personnel killed by 'spontaneous protest.' That would seem to make us look WORSE than getting overrun by a trained force. I have to suspect that the whole point is a broader attempt to deny that Al Qaeda exists any more, and certainly not in the Libya that Obama 'liberated.'

Before the attack Obama and Hillary had said that Al Qaeda was gone in Libya.  It was a major embarrassment which is why they are in complete denial.   And Hillary was completely incompetent in that raid which is why the MFM is trying to whitewash it for 2016.

.

.I don't think she will even run, but if she does, Americans will not make her the next President.  She most likely will get the nomination, but not the Presidency.   Americans for the most part are shallow and do not vote for ugly.  And let's face it, Hillary was never an attractive woman to begin with and she is not aging well.

Obama stole Hillary's turn to be President and IMO it was her last chance.

177 (LA Times) If you managed to sign up for health insurance under Obamacare before the Dec. 23 deadline for coverage that starts Wednesday, you may be wondering what's next.

Matt Hamill was one of those concerned about the paperwork for his new health plan. Earlier this year, the 41-year-old independent video editor from Los Angeles was among the 1 million Californians to receive notice that his health plan was being canceled because it didn't comply with the rules of the federal healthcare law. So he went online in search of a new policy and signed up for a Silver plan.

As of last week, he was waiting for confirmation that his policy will be in place Jan. 1, and he had yet to receive a welcome packet or an ID card. And calls to his insurer's customer service line came with long wait times. "I just gave up on waiting on the phone for them," he said.

Turning healthcare into just another government service. Getting medical treatment will be just like dealing with the post office

181 Posted by: Nip Sip at December 30, 2013 09:08 AM (0FSuD) Hillary & TFG own Benghazi and the death of our Ambassador and three others. They should be brought to justice. Any republican that is thinking about running in 2016 should have a commercial already made about her lack of leadership at the State Dept and how she blamed a lackey when it was her call. We all know TFG was sleeping. I remember hearing it right afterwards, but it’s now lost in the media coverup of it.

Of course and turnip greens for money. Both need a lot of hot sauce. I prefer frozen black eyed peas with snaps with bacon in them. Serve it with cornbread and sweet tea. This is known as a Baptist New Years dinner. Now what for dessert. Maybe a chess pie.

192 The story of a botched kidnapping to swap the Ambassador for the Blind Sheik as an October Surprise that backfired makes the most sense with the facts as we now know them. The security guys from the Annex (SEALS) weren't on board with the staged event and when they began defensive actions the muzzies (Morsi's MB Boys) assumed Jugears betrayed them, which resulted in the violent death of Stevens.

198 Kathleen Sebelius has been a state governor, was aggressively for abortion in Kansas, has "taken on" the Tea Party, the Catholic Church and the Religious Right, can associate herself with as much of Obama's record as she likes and separate herself from all the foreign policy debacles. Outside of Kansas and us right-wingers, I don't think her skullduggery is notorious. If she wants to, I think she'd be a second dark-horse to upset Hillary for the nomination. And since the GOP is getting its nominee crowned as early as possible, they're not going to be able to react to that kind of switch. Again.

199 The Fourth Amendment was written with a weasel word, "reasonable", in the text. The idea that wartime reasonably expands the powers and duties of government, is part of the law inherited by the United States and unaltered since the establishment. If you would like to rewrite the language of the Constitution, there is a procedure for that, and it ain't litigation.
