Headline at Fox (AP):

White House: No New Drilling Until Answers on Accident

A top adviser to President Barack Obama says no new oil drilling will be authorized until authorities learn what caused the explosion of the rig Deepwater Horizon.

This is pretty much what the squishies on the Fox panel were leading up to yesterday. This is nothing more than a pure PR stunt.  They never intended that there would be any new drilling in our lifetimes to begin with.

There would first have had to be an allowance by the States involved, not likely for any in the West. Then the EPA would have had to complete their study for each new site which would have taken decades. Then each drilling would have had to go through court challenges, all filed in series.

If we were lucky drilling would occur within perhaps 20 years assuming the communists didn’t block it once again so the process would start all over.

What is amazing about this shit is some of the people on the Fox panel alluded to this when it was first announced. Now they are all silent on it.

7 I'm still trying to figure out* why feminists are upset about this "ultrasound of the baby" law in Oklahoma not six weeks after Congress legislated that all our bodies belong to the government and we can only receive medical procedures that they allow us to have.  (Also trying to figure out how showing someone a video screen is "controlling their fertility" but it's too early in the morning for that much stupid.)

WASHINGTON — Democrats have glimpsed their biggest threat this fall, and she is Grandma.

One reason President Barack Obama and other party leaders are rolling out campaigns this week to energize young and minority voters for November's elections is that they've seen the polling data on senior citizens, and it's ugly.

Democrats once counted on voters older than 65, but many seniors' loyalties changed in the past decade.

Time to for ObamaCare to kick in and get rid of these counter-revolutionaries.

I see Linda Ronstadt is weighing in on the AZ law. Of course she is against it. Funny thing is, the Ronstadt name is well known in Tucson. Ronstadt Hardware ads were always on the air when I grew up there. And her brother was, and possibly still is, the Chief of Police in Tucson.

So Linda, how are you helping things by being against a law that actually helps, not hinders, legal immigrants? Illegal immigration drives down wages. Is this something you want? Not to mention the fact of the costs that the state accrues when having to use funds to pay for medical bills, etc. that the illegals run up and can't or won't pay back. And I won't even deal with the prison costs after some of these people have been arrested for criminal acts.

You are making things worse by being against this. Better to protest to Washington D.C. about their lack of Immigraton enforcement, than  to bitch at Arizona for enforcing laws already on the books.

I saw another article in one of the print newspapers I read each morning where an AZ cop is the first to file a lawsuit against it.  One wonders how he has been "harmed" since the damn law hasn't taken effect yet.

Also so in the same article where a veritable laundry list of liberal turd groups were "planning" on filing suit.  I have always wondered why we never have any conservative legal groups to file suit.

38 Speaking of the AZ law I'll repeat the post from the ONT:

A few surprises from the vote on the PR bill from Hot Air:

The roll is up. Among the Republicans voting yes: Marsha Blackburn, Cantor, Joe Cao, Mike Castle, Tom Cole, Jeff Flake, Jeb Hensarling, Darrell Issa, Peter King, Mark Kirk, Kevin McCarthy, Pence, and Aaron Schock. Among the Democrats voting no: Jason Altmire, Rosa DeLauro, Barney Frank(!), Gutierrez, Dennis Kucinich(!), Walt Minnick, Tom Perriello, Bobby Rush, Velazquez, and Anthony Weiner.

An amendment to add a fourth option in the second vote (if the first vote was to change status). The new option is to retain current status.  That would make it very difficult to get the options the Dems want because the first choice, if it passed at all would be narrow, then the votes would be split between 4 options with the ability once again to vote for no change of current status.

I would have also liked to see the 2nd choice reworded to plain English. Speaking of which, a useless amendment to make English the official language of PR was defeated.

Now this thing will move on to the Senate where I suspect it will be very low priority.  Keep in mind that it has to make it through the Senate before the current term is up.

There are currently about 1500 rigs operating in North America. (See Baker-Hughes for the active rig counts). This means that a rate of 1 out of 1500 had a major spill in the last 20 years (when rig counts exceeded 2000 at times).

That's part of an argument that I don't think has gotten enough attention in this whole debate.  Even if all of the illegals were honest, law abiding, hard-working people the mere fact that they are in the country illegally opens them up to exploitation.  Don't like what I'm paying?  F*ck you- I've got ICE on speed dial.  Don't want to spray those insecticides without safety gear?  F*ck you- I've got ICE on speed dial.  Think that scaffold is too rickety to climb?  F*ck you- I've got ICE on speed dial.

It's by no means the best argument against allowing illegals to remain in the country, but it does point out how allowing them to stay is bad even for the illegals themselves, and it's an argument that I've had some success with in getting some liberals to at least start thinking rationally about the problem.

I just wanted to say that I just heard the term "illegal immigrant" for about the thousandth time, and it really ticks me off. Let's deconstruct.  The "illegal" part is obvious enough, but what does "immigrant" really mean?  It's this [from Wiktionary]:

immigrant: "A person who comes to a country to permanently settle from another country."

So you see my problem.  From the one perspective, it's presumptuous; from the other it's defeatist.

Let's look at the definition of the real term that applies:

alien : "A foreigner residing in a country."

So it "illegal alien". Now that's more like it. The AZ law doesn't "criminalize being an illegal immigrant" - it puts the "alien" back into "illegal alien".

[But then, I resent the "Native American" term, being a native American, myself. The correct term in this case is "aboriginal", meaning "of the original people." But there I go getting all technical & stuff.]

That all depends Mal on how much of the black vote in Chicago Daley can get to the polls.  If they get motivated and vote in any kind of significant numbers, any R has a tough row to hoe to get the offsetting numbers downstate.  However, since there's doesn't seem to be a black running for statewide office, the Chicago vote may stay home.

What happened?

I'm from Mobile, just east.  What happened was, the feds dicked around for a solid week before they acknowledged that it was a Big Fucking DealTM.

It's all here and more here.

It's a mega-disaster because they knew they should have done the in-situ burning as soon as the rig sank.  This would have been a garden variety blow-out and clean up job.  Instead, they've got another Valdez in the making.

And, there's no single incident commander who's in charge, another complete fuck up.

RE: 53 and 71

Exploitation is a good way into the lib mind because it enters through an accepted pathway, through one of their verities: business is evil.

Another path is the other eternal verity: America is racist. If America is racist, is it a moral act to expose these immigrants to the American racist hate-mongers when they would not be so exposed if they remained in their home countries. With the families they love. In their humble, honest cultures. With a modest carbon footprint. It's fun to watch the eyes as a lib realizes that he might have to admit that America isn't racist-racist.

With the faux religious, I ask "What is a missionary and how does this mission thing work? Have you heard of it? So it involves the missionaries going to the other country, not the other country coming to the missionary."

129 When the oil and gas industry began drilling offshore many years ago the oil companies knew that they would have to deal with some crazy coonasses if they fouled up the fishing grounds.  Now we have offshore energy marine minerals management people making decisions instead of the oil company. Anyone that has ever been in the offshore drilling industry will tell you this agency is the most feared in the Gulf.  If OEMMS has the power to tell the oil companies what where when and how to operate then can we blame it all on the oil companies?

I'm still trying to figure out* why feminists are upset about this "ultrasound of the baby" law in Oklahoma not six weeks after Congress legislated that all our bodies belong to the government and we can only receive medical procedures that they allow us to have.  (Also trying to figure out how showing someone a video screen is "controlling their fertility" but it's too early in the morning for that much stupid.)
