The Morning Report 8/31/17
— Open Blogger

KamBer.jpg

Good morning kids. The last day of August already. At any rate our top story is now the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and the rebuilding of lives and property. First up are reports of explosions heard at a chemical plant and the fears of a massive catastrophe. With rising waters comes exposure to raw sewage and chemicals but this plus the threat of levees and dams breaking is potentially staggering. Prayers to all down there.

On the domestic front, the President laid out his tax plan and while naturally cutting taxes and the tax rate are a boon to businesses and individuals, the plan does nothing to address the $200 trillion-plus dollar gorilla in the room: deficits and the national debt. Unfortunately, too many people including the administration are still swallowing the bullshit of "paying for tax cuts" and that they have to be "revenue neutral." My money and what I earn does not first belong to the government and then they get to decide what I keep. It's great that PDT has exploded a lot of myths in speaking plainly and truthfully and I would have hoped that this toxic bromide would have been one of them. As the great Daniel Horowitz tells us in the fourth link, "It's impossible to simultaneously drain the Swamp but then ask the Swamp for help on how to drain it. This is essentially the lesson lost on President Trump as it relates to taxes." In any case, it's all probably moot since it will no doubt be watered down to nothing by the time it gets through the committees, that is if the GOP wing of the Deep State doesn't block this legislation as it has done with everything else since January 20th.

And that brings us to what Rush Limbaugh has to say on the subject, and it dovetails nicely with the conversation we've been having here at the HQ vis a vis Nunzio Pelosi and her Antifa "condemnation." If the GOP continues to blockade and stifle the President's legislative agenda, there will be hell to pay come 2018. If we lose the House, from a legislative standpoint, we would be no worse off than we are now. And the speculation is maybe President Trump might tell the GOP to FOAD and leave it to run as an independent or even spur the formation of some sort of new party. The RINO-DIABLOs would join the Democrats outright and anyone left would move with Trump, essentially spelling the end of the Republican Party.

Doom for us, eh? Not so fast; circling back to Pelosi, her statement yesterday condemning (for what it's worth) "Antifa" will no doubt piss off the Democrat base. It was effectively an apology to the President and acknowledgement of his position. Couple this with the fact that Bernie Sanders and his senior advisors have been not so secretly pushing to take that same psycho base of miscreants and malcontents, still angered over the theft of the nomination by the DNC and Clintons, and leave them as the nucleus of their own political party.

Perhaps by 2020 if not sooner, there might be four political parties vying for the presidency, assuming the GOP is not completely dead by then as a result of their open revolt. Then again Kamala Harris' endorsement of Bernie's "Medicare For All" national health disaster could be a preview of a 2020 presidential ticket. The question is not who will be on top, but for which party. Interesting times indeed.

From hither and thither, a fascinating piece at the Spectator about a man I never knew about and someone whom we should all get to know, the late black conservative George Schuyler. Lastly, we all know about the vile cartoon from Politico but I just saw the one from Charlie Hebdo and it's truly sick. I'm aware that what happened to them was horrific, and that they insult everyone equally. But that just means that they're completely ignorant about right and wrong and merely puerile and infantile and only occasionally get it right. You'd think they would've learned a lesson, but no. Sheesh.

Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

15 'Revenue Neutral' doesn't solve the debt problem. You have to run a budget surplus of the same magnitude and for as many years, as it took to run up all that debt. Not...Going...To...Happen. The only escape from the huge debt, and the promised obligations the Feds can't pay is devalued currency, a.k.a. the Venezuela solution where a McDonalds happy meal costs 10,000 new bucks.

19 Bureau of Labor Statistics: Americans Spend More on Taxes Than Food and Clothing Combined I used to go to the local mega-mall and shop for clothing and other stuff. Back when tax rates were lower. Now the wife and I send the various governing bodies about $20,000 a year. Which is about four times our food and clothing budget. I haven't bought much in the way of clothing for years. Nor shopped at the mega-mall for anything. It's cute that politicians point the finger at Amazon as being the cause of mall failures. Politicians are the biggest liars and deniers on the planet. I love Pat Condell and realize that he is a full on atheist with no love of the Christianity. But he doesn't wantonly smear Christianity for the hell of it. He does level criticism from a legitimate standpoint. Hebdo just uses the same bigoted smears to attack people unworthy of attack. 38 I'm going to make the super easy call now that the next round of GOP apologists attempted emotional blackmail is that if you don't vote GOP in 2018, you are voting for Trump's impeachment since that's what the Dems will do with a Democrat majority in the House.

Since cutting social programs is 'off the table' (SS, Medicare, Section 8, etc) and since rebuilding our military has become more important than in decades at the least (Hint: the world is not getting more peaceful), then the only way to really tame the debt is to grow GDP at an even faster pace than spending growth.

This, to me, is a political reality, much like the non-choice of PDT vs Teh Beast of Chappaqua. And that isn't to say some improvements can't be made in spending, but alone it's just nibbling at the edges. Relief for Harvey will consume many times any such savings for years to come. And then there is the NEXT disaster, and there will be one.

Some individual quarters were at 3% or higher but not sustained for a calendar year; Zippy is alone at the bottom on that. 72 In a way, that stupid Charlie Hebdo cover may have a nugget of truth. (Bear with me for a second). The title says, "God exists, He drowned all the neonazis in Texas". Well, given that the death toll last I heard was less than 50, and if we stipulate that every one of them was a neonazi (a ridiculous assumption prima facie but for the sake of discussion), then that means there were fewer than 50 neonazis in all of Texas. Hence, neonazis comprise a negligible segment of Texan society. They may think they were saying Texas is full of nazis but they ended up saying the opposite, no? (I am by no means making light of the deaths in Texas). Meh- it's too early in the morning.

94 Democrats new plan is to inch closer to the GOP positions. The radical distinctions will be hidden for now in Order to approve appearances. The internal polling has Democrats getting crushed on these issues. Sad part? It won't be too hard to meld into and confuse people. The current crop of Republicans is weak. They have not passed anything meaningful- the president has accomplished most things on his own. People know this. Republicans in Congress are losing support. They've failed on healthcare and nobody strongly believes they will pass meaningful tax reform. They have de facto supported Antifa and the dismantling of our cultural heritage. Nancy Pelosi, as part of their strategy, has now made stronger statements against these incursions. Republicans are weak and feckless. But water is wet. They may do better in the midterms because it is too late to change the public perception of Democrats as radical, left wing bullies who belittle and demean the average American. But that's not going to sustain Republican majorities over the long term. Both McConnel and Ryan need to resign and the party needs new leadership. That won't come without a massive backlash from party members. Let's see what the fall session brings, because that will say a lot about the parties future.

On the other hand, he has a keen eye for detail and some of his tweets are remarkably insightful. I ask because lately he has been saying that the DOJ is developing a massive case against Antifa, and that is why police have been standing down at some of these protests. Apparently, the feds have infiltrated Antifa to a great degree, and Wictor has spotted things in the protest photos that are quite interesting, e.g. recording equipment on "victims," a belt badge on another protestor, radios on higher-up Antifa leaders who he also identifies by their color codes. Very interesting stuff.

188 Oh, one other Jehova's Witness story. I know it's not nice to belittle another's religious confession, but I'm going to belittle a JW ceremony. We had a nanny who was JW. Dumbest girl I've ever met. Dumber than worms. And completely naiive, I don't think she'd been 10 miles from home in her entire life. But that's not the story. The story is that she got married and we went to the wedding. The church is a hall. There was a stage in front and rows of folding metal chairs for the attendees. The celebrant (I don't know what JWs call preachers) wore a hideous green suit. There was a quick ceremony in which the actual marrying was accomplished and then the new couple sat in folding chairs on the stage while the preacher harangued them for forty minutes on the duties of the wife. There was no love. Not the St. Peter thing about love and charity, not the trite thing from the guru whose name I'm spacing on, not even anything general about how awesome it is that you're committed to each other and can spend a life making babies. It was just "you're married now, this is what you owe your husband".

The Silicon Valley and its Puget Sound annex dominated by Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, and Microsoft increasingly resemble the pre-gas crisis Detroit of the Big Three. They are bringing us a hardly gilded age of prosperity but depressed competition, economic stagnation, and, increasingly, a chilling desire to control the national conversation. -Insty

Originally used by workers along the Erie Canal who would pitch in to help move the barges by pulling on ropes while walking along the adjacent footpaths. It has come to be used for picking up the slack in any kind of communal effort. Usage- "If you want to drag Hillary's sorry ass all the way to the White House you'd better tow the line."

Posted by: bluebell at August 31, 2017 03:42 AM (UoSKV)

210 I'm going to repeat this again - because people still don't understand. There is a difference between a deficit and debt. Deficits in state and local governments are a very bad thing. In state and local governments taxation is the primary source of income. However - the national government has NO source of income. The national government prints all the money. The primary function of taxation at the national level is to control inflation of the currency. If the feds didn't tax, every dollar printed would inflate the currency because more and more dollars would be in circulation.

A federal deficit - which is the difference between federal spending and tax money inflow - is a good thing. Why is that? Because the feds not only have to supply enough dollars every year to maintain the spending in the private sector, they also have to supply surplus money - through deficits at the federal level - to add enough money to the economy to allow it to grow. A federal surplus would be a very bad thing since that would mean the economy is shrinking.

With 300 million people and a per capita income of $61,000 per year that requires federal spending of 3 trillion dollars per year. Where does that number come from? (300 million * 61,000) / 6. Where does the divisor of 6 come from? Each dollar printed by the feds circulates 6 times before it is taxed away to zero. If you will check you will see that every stable government on earth has a budget of approximately 1/6th of their country's GDP.

Debt on the other hand is an awful thing for a national government. Ask your self this question "If I could print money why would I ever need to borrow money?" The answer is "I wouldn't need to". Actual debt owed to foreign interests like China is a Progressive plot to bankrupt the United States and nothing else.

293 No one knows the real financial picture in the US. The fact that companies cannot raise prices without losing sales gives a hint that things aren't as rosy as the tax man thinks. Also all the restaurants going out of business. Also the McDonalds value meals. The reported deficit is incorrect. This has been noted for a long time. The only guess that has some validity is the amount added to the national debt in a year. Last year I think it was over a trillion. I read that every US Treasury or US Agency (eg Fanny Mae) can be rehypothecated five times. So a guess as to how much funny money is going around would be 100+ trillion dollars. Whatever Trump wants would likely be less fantastic than the above. If the borders are closed and China and Germany and Japan and South Korea are forced into balanced trade the US economy will grow by 10% or more. The Governments of the World see the reduction of the openness of the US market as an act of war. Similar to China around 1900. Boxer Rebellion?

301 No one knows the real financial picture in the US. The fact that companies cannot raise prices without losing sales gives a hint that things aren't as rosy as the tax man thinks. Also all the restaurants going out of business. Also the McDonalds value meals. I had an Econ professor who was talking about a Walmart Index - a theory that typical metrics don't really capture the true state of an economy because they can be manipulated. But if you look at how companies like Walmart are doing, you can get a better gauge. Low price retailers selling low priced stuff doing well in an economy gives one a certain insight.

303 290 Okay. So I guess no one has any opinions on Wictor. Still, here's one more interesting thing he suggests: The FBI is refusing to release Hillary's emails (claiming lack of public interest,) but in actuality, they are quietly building a case against her and do not want to jeopardize it by releasing any info. My Occam's Razor says it's deep state Obamabots, but I would love to believe Wictor's theory . Posted by: IrishEi at August 31, 2017 09:01 AM (HiDrR) Your first instinct is correct. 315 Meh, "revenue neutral" is just a scam to fool the rubes. If the GOPe really wanted tax cuts and "revenue neutrality", all they'd have to do would be an outright repeal of Obamacare. Defund every single bit of it. And with this One Simple Trick (clicks, yo!)- Instant Revenue Neutrality! These fucks...with Obamacare repealed and tax cuts in place it would be Reagan 2.0 in place. There would be jobs a plenty. Revenues would actually rise. The Middle Class would be thriving. American Business would be thriving. Not only that, though that is reason enough if you truly care about this country and it's citizens, but this is an historic moment where the entire political landscape could change with poor whites and Blacks/Hispanics test driving the GOP since Trump is in place. These GOP idiots should be sued for Political Malpractice and Fraud, if such a law existed. Vote for anyone in the primaries but the incumbent. 373 On the first day, I attended a plenary session at which, one after another, several members of the Russian Academy of Sciences stood up and presented scientific results demonstrating that the "science" -- if one can call it that -- is not "settled"; that every major aspect of the climate Communist Party Line is in doubt; that the doubt is sufficient to require that Russian cities should not gallop towards the insane policies that most scientifically-illiterate Western countries had been feeble-minded enough to espouse; and that, in any event, the cost of the Party Line was so excessive as to be unaffordable. The biggest cheer of the day went to the formidable Academician Nigmatulin, a redoubtable 75-year-old veteran of the Communist regime, who, in a thunderous sergeant-major's parade-ground yell, brought the audience to its feet with his peroration to the effect that "The problem for Russia is not global warming. It is profiteering priests of the new religion, bloated bureaucrats and dithering democrats."

Just a thought. ..

Every legislative position Trump has taken since Congress shit themselves on health care has been to give primary challenges clear, easy lines of fire on incumbents.

It is brilliant.

And the GOPe is so damned stupid they think they are the ones winning. "Hardeehar! Look how we stopped that Trump!"

Flake is a prime example. Trump now has him on record, in living color:
Against repealing Obamacare
Against immigration enforcement
[coming soon]
Against tax cuts
Against a major conservative issue to be named later

It is brutal how easy it is and how ruthless Trump is moving against the GOPe right in their faces.

Fear is the reason. There is a huge social price to pay for bucking the Left as there is a huge price to pay for bucking the radicals in Islam. Few people are willing to put everything at risk and oppose either of them.

The social price also is one main factor in why conservatives who go to DC become more left over time.

" A woman leaving a nearby Bass Pro Shops parking lot had faulty brakes and ran into the ditch.

A woman who shops at Bass Pro Shops has good 'Ette potential."

That fits with the location in the video when you go to Google Earth and look at the Kearney St. Bass Pro parking lot layout.

519 "You state: more evidence to suggest that this was not an accident What evidence ? Any new info ?" It's actually a slap at the MSM and the left. There is NO evidence to suggest that President Trump is a racist. The fact that there was a car in motion is more evidence than the MSM screeching that Trump is a racist. And for the record, I do believe it was an accident.

522 I read your website every day, first. Love it. Today, you state, "Unfortunately, too many people including the administration are still swallowing the bullshit of "paying for tax cuts" and that they have to be "revenue neutral."" I agree but suggest that as we are never told the "optimal tax rate", which I would define as the tax rate at any given time that results in the maximum tax revenue, the discussion is just not well informed and is reliant more on feelings than facts. Part of the silliness derives from reliance on a static versus dynamic analysis of changes in tax rate. It seems to me that reducing the tax rate from the optimal tax rate decreases tax revenue, but so also does increasing the tax rate above the optimal tax rate. If the current tax rate is far higher than the optimal tax rate than reducing the tax rate (to not much lower than the optimal tax rate) should have the effect of increasing tax revenues, which I presume is desired even if not always politically palatable. However, tax policy seems to be based on everything other than finding the optimal tax rate. A static analysis, which demands revenue neutrality, seems to look at everything other than reality. While I am not an economist and someone more versed in the topic could prove me very wrong, it just seems the whole topic just defies common sense.

523 Good piece by Greenfield about the Politicization of Everything. For example, even the sidebar article about Marvel Comics. When I was a kid(tm) last week, Marvel was hip, kinda' Jewish and urban--just lots of fun. Now, Islamo-artists slip hidden messages into preachy transgender screeds blahblahblah death. Marvel "Slipping into third place"?--that's where it was before Spider-Man. From countries to comic books, there's pretty much nothing leftism can't ruin if allowed. I'm Peter Parker and I say "No".

524 Obama said that Kamala Harris was the best looking State Attorney General in the country.  But she kind of looks like ... a dude.  Huh.
