The Morning Report 8/30/17
— Open Blogger

Desperate.jpg

Good morning kids. Midweek and in the lead are still Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath. The President and First Lady toured the devastation and their presence lifted spirits and raised hope. In other words, being presidential and genuinely concerned. The forecast seems to be improving, thank goodness. In related news on the inevitable political side of things, fiscal hawks are worried that massive pork will be shielded under the guise of disaster relief (that's never happened before, right?). And speaking of giant sows, Sheila Jackass-Lee is, get this, demanding $150 billion dollars for Houston. I'm sure every penny will go to aiding the city and not wasted on, say, funding BLM or just lining her pockets. Pig.

Meanwhile, in the aftermath of launching a missile that overflew Japan and scared the living crap out of everyone there, Whoa, Fat! is now threatening that that is merely the warm-up act to a launch on Guam. This has got to be stopped. Despite us testing a new nuke, no matter how awesome and scary, this cycle of threats and counter threats is meaningless since they are hell bent on arming up with ICBMs. And they are ramping up cyber capability as well. This has to stop. Now.

On the Deep State Coup front, the FBI is refusing to hand over Hilary Clinton's records because of "public disinterest," and Moldy Locks', aka Debbie Wasserman-Schultz's boyfriend Imran Awan still has a secret House e-mail account. I guess in Soviet America, swamp drain YOU.

Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

So i assume that is SJL in the pic.  I am sure Trump is just dying to give Houston $150B so SJL and give it to her black cronies.

The lawyer who filed the FOI lawsuit for those Scankles documents had this to say.

I'm just stunned. This is exactly what I would have expected had Mrs. Clinton won the election, Clevenger told the Washington Times. It looks like the [Barack] Obama Administration is still running the FBI, Clevenger added.

They are because trump has not purged all the Obama holdovers.

14 8 Oops, i see you covered the lawyer down thread. Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at August 30, 2017 07:08 AM (mpXpK) I'm interested to actually find out, on a granular level, what is the process for getting rid of people in the bureaucracy. I mean, the Federal Government has how many people in it: tens of thousands? Who does the president direct to do the firing and how does he know who he actually needs to be fired? Serious question.

Posted by: Gmac - 'All politics in this country now is dress-rehearsal for civil war' at August 30, 2017 07:09 AM (qZdIZ) Rush touched on this subject the other day and there's a fine IBD editorial I linked to. To wit, the best relief comes from people themselves and NOT the government. What Texas has shown is that the volunteer attitude of thousands of fellow citizens was on full display and helped mitigate the situation tremendously. That's not to say that infrastructure and such doesn't need substantial help. But it does say that citizens helping citizens is the model.

Easy-peasy.  Anyone appointed by Obama or Clinton gets fired.

Posted by: Vic We Have No Party at August 30, 2017 02:14 AM (mpXpK)

18 "Serious question." I guess you could start with those whose position required taking an oath to the Constitution. And at the first deviation from that oath, shitcan them. For the rest, just ask them how they felt about working during the Obama Presidency. And take action according to the response.

27 Who does the president direct to do the firing and how does he know who he actually needs to be fired? It's a trickle down process. The president places executives at the Director level with instructions to achieve certain goals which are anathema to his political opponents. In order to meet those goals, the process exposes the people who need to be fired and the Director does the firing. Hence, the reason Deputy Dawg needs to shit or get off the pot.

31 I've often heard and read the complaint that women in positions of power have an 'open door' policy to listen to problems, collect information from both sides, then decide to wait for the problem to resolve itself and go away. Okay, perhaps it's a tad misogynist. But we seem to have entered the period of history where this has become epidemic among our leaders. The only decision that everyone seems to agree upon and wholeheartedly endorse is spending money. Too much money.

57 Dem/MSM yapping about Harvey is a 100 year storm (or maybe 500 year) and this is the third since 1989 in the gulf and this proves Global Warming.

I  don't  know that Katrina was even a 100 year storm (main problem was it directly hit a city that is below see level)  or what the third one is.one is but in any case Dems, as usual, are ignorant of the concept.  A 100 year flood/storm  is based on the probability of it occurring in any one small geographic area, not the entire Gulf region,  Atlantic ocean or world. In any given year, numerous areas around the world may suffer from a 100 year flood. It does not mean there should only be one across the globe every hundred years.

Dems really are raving lunatics.

60 More Noos.  Today is  Wednesday, August 30, 2017.  On this day in 1967 Thurgood Marshall was confirmed as the first  black Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. Everything I remember about this guy was that he was an idiot.  He was nominated by LBJ who was a crooked idiot and easily confirmed in an all Democrat Senate. The Democrats owned all three seats of government in the 60s and this is when they started doing the most damage since FDR controlled everything.

86 WTF is Sessions doing? Lots and lots. Only it's soooper secret. He runs silent and deep, like an attack sub. And any day now, he will announce mass firings, indictments and jail time. Just because you don't see him having press conferences every day doesn't mean he's not working to drain the swamp. And if you have any complaints - well, then, you call the DoJ yourself and offer to do better. Or so I am reliably informed by commenters.

93 I just read Ace's post about our world going crazy - have to say I agree completely, and my personal response is that I'm pretty much just disconnecting, except for those things that affect me locally. I get "news", such as it is, from this site and a couple others, but I have quit watching TV almost completely, except for old movies, and some things I like that I can get on my roku. I don't listen to any cable "news" anymore, certainly. I have quit reading political pieces from any side on the web (excepting this site because I still like the horde) Most importantly, I have no facebook page, and I have quit looking at twitter completely. NO "social media" for me, except email to some relatives. I do engage in a small fantasy football league with 7 good friends, just because we all enjoy it, and we are fairly like minded. and as I pull back, I realize I am just fine. I just do not care what any of them are saying if they do not have anything to do with my personal life in the here and now. Good bye to all that.

117 With respect to Thurgood Marshall - among those who watched SCOTUS closely, it was widely acknowledged that he was virtually comatose for the last 4 or 5 years of his time on the court. Medically, he should have been kept in what we now call assisted living. BUT the Washington establishment was desperate not to give up what they called "The Black Seat", so everyone agreed to ignore the issue, and instead an unknown and unnamed staff "became" Thurman Thomas, writing all of his opinions and pretending that he was still a functional justice. And it must be said that the GOP thought this worked out so well that they did much the same thing with William Rhenquist towards the end of his life.

The fact we are where we are is insane. There is nothing to study. Posted by: Kreplach at August 30, 2017 07:46 AM (9A6UB) It has been the thrust of the problem for years in the military, that when you have an all volunteer force, you damn well better be looking at your recruiters, and who THEY are foisting on the service branches in the first place. This nation pays billions and billions of dollars to the VA to provide care for Veterans. And every damn one of us knows when it comes to caring for the brave soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines, the ones who put their asses on the line and served honorably, no expense should be spared. However... that does NOT describe a huge portion of the people who are permitted to join, who have no business wearing the uniform, and are in any number of ways incapable of doing the job. Why? Because recruiting is a used car salesman's game. Everyone knows it, and yet I don't see any evidence they're doing anything to change that. Here's my first order of business, if you make me Secretary of Defense. 1. I'm going to make everyone who wants to join subject themselves to an extensive family history, and I want the headshrinks to be asking some specific questions: substance abuse history, physical and psychological abuse history, how you did in school (behavior, more than grades), and what your juvenile record looks like. We set the bar high. Any evidence of any of those (and we will allow for some mitigating information to change the decision), and we don't take you. Would solve a shedload of these problems before they even start.

130 Jeff Flake in Arizona - my parents and other family still live in Phoenix. They're not sure about Ward, but they say that everyone there hates Flake, as he has worked hard to continually piss off all of his constituents, no matter what side of the political spectrum they're on. They don't see any way he wins another term, as he has lost his base completely, except for maybe the Mormon Church, and even good Mormons are starting to question his competence. They see him as a stubborn and rather foolish man who thought that "thinking independently" is how a Senator should act (took his cue from McCain, apparently) and thus he thinks it's a badge of honor when he opposes those things that his constituents want him to do. And that's how you get to 18% job approval.

So a soldier signs a contract with the govt to join the military which at the time includes being accepted as a transgender and all that entails ( remember Obama EO was issued three years ago) but now that Trump has reversed accepting transgenders AND has now denied them their particular medical requirements, they should just be dropped? How is that any different than any other vet being denied care under their effective sign up promises? Trump's EO specifically directs Mathis to determine how to best implement this part of the ban.

If there was a Speaker of the House and Majority Leader in the Senate with the cajones to suggest that only they have the responsibility and authority to build and sustain the Army and Navy, we could end the charade of the "transgender servicemembers".  Obama and Ass Carter had ZERO authority to make changes to enlistment criteria.  The easiest solution is to refute whatever EO, PM or DoD instruction that occurred during Obama and Carter's term.

But the legislative branch does not have the stomach to do what is right.

The number of people who aren't "journalists" who care what shoes she wore at the White House and at Andrews are amazingly low. They just made themselves look stupid. Keep it up, MSM, and you'll get her elected to a second term. Or something like that.

189 Lovely sunrise here in Brazoria County.  The water is receding but there's still a lot over the driveway so we're still stuck here. I was able to wade out to the kennel, which turned out not to be affected inside.  I dried out the contact switch and get the well going again, so we have water for the toilets and showers but we'll be relying on bottled water for drinking for a while. The septic system was turned back on and the sprinklers worked but the aerator isn't working yet. This is a chronic problem anyway, so we'll see later on. The kennel dogs will probably go back out this afternoon.  Only one of the six outdoor runs is dry enough for them to exercise, though. Dutchess chose this time to come in season, adding to the circus. God love them, they're taking it well. Spare a thought now for those affected worse than us at Schloss Hadrian. And thank you again for your support for us Morons during what may be called without much exaggeration as an apocalyptic event. In essence we got most of a year's rainfall in three days.

Five years after a historical political event of a successful bid for White House occupancy, U.S. President Barak Obama issued Executive Order 13526. This 2009 official decree mandated retroactive reclassification of some documents following a proper demand for disclosure pursuant to FOIA. In like fashion, elected representatives of the nation's 113th Congress returned a unanimous vote for the FOIA Oversight and Implementation Act during early 2014. The latter legislation requires establishment of a central online FOIA platform to facilitate public disclosure requests and track multiple requests for documents or records by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget.

According to Congressional sponsor Darrell Issa (R, CA), the new law effectively shifts the burden of proof from requesters to government agencies with no good cause for withholding requested documents.

-Empty promises that echo as hollow executive lip service

By every reliable account reviewed by this author, Barack Obama failed miserably in fulfilling primary election campaign promises to head the "most transparent Presidential administration in U.S. history."

One recently featured article that analyzed and summarized a detailed Associated Press report of the actual effectiveness of Obama's assurances of stricter FOIA compliance. The final conclusion reached revealed Obama's administration as "uncooperative as ever." per Associated Press investigative reporters, Obama's administration has censored, denied, and interposed more legal objections to justify FOIA noncompliance, as evidenced by a record number of occasions.

203 Expect Palin to appeal the dismissal of her lawsuit. She'll likely lose with the 2nd Circuit. But SCOTUS is another matter, especially if Trump gets another SCOTUS pick soon. Big issue is that Sarah got dismissed before she got discovery. Without discovery she couldn't establish which specific people at the NYT had actual malice. Without that evidence, she got dismissed. It's a Catch 22. If SCOTUS rules for Sarah it'd be a Big Fucking Deal. If they don't it means that MSM can lie with impunity. Judge Rakoff elided over the Times never issuing a full and clear retraction, let alone issuing anything close to an apology. These cases are tricky. You don't want to open the door to lawsuits that inhibit a free press. Allowing expensive discovery too easily can do that. On the other hand, the NY Times republished a blood libel that we all know that they knew was false.

.Oh yes there is.  Plenty needs to be worked out in regards to President Trump's EO.  Laws that are on the books that cover Military Service and they need to be reviewed along with Court cases that have established precedents on Military Discharges.

What reason and Separation Code do you put on their DD214 for the Discharge?  Put the wrong one and some hot shot Civil Rights lawyer will sue the Military and win.  Been there and seen that happen when we started up the don't ask don't tell policy.  There were plenty of 6 figure settlements made when that first started happening.

Will they be entitled to involuntary separation pay and what amount, half or full?  Will they get to keep their on base medical care  and Commissary   privileges like other people involuntarily separated?  What will be their VA entitlements?

Tons of questions and months if not a years worth research need to be done on this before the first one can be "kicked" out.

226 Today, Hack Clinton Judge Rakoff ruled libel laws don't protect Republicans from his pals at the Times. Yesterday, Hack Clinton Judge Bolton conspired to deny Joe Arpaio a jury trial because she knew he would win. We see big city police departments allowing hooded Antifa thugs to riot and assault with impunity. We see the Clintons, who seem to have their own personal US Code. We see the Minnesota governor claiming the right to defund and close the legislature, like Maduro in Venezuela. We see illegal aliens getting off lightly or even having charges dismissed because it might get them deported while Americans are charged. We see the FBI refusing to release Clinton emails, saying nobody is interested. The Director's wife received $1.6 million from Clinton cut-outs. We see Obama target the Tea Party with the IRS and target the Trumps with the entire government. Now we even see internet companies like Google, YouTube and PayPal targeting and censoring conservatives. Would you put up with a Republican phone company that censored you, Democrats? No, you wouldn't--and we're not either. This can't and won't go on. We're not going to have two systems. That's called "Jim Crow". We're either going to have one law for everybody... ...or none at all.

228 203 These cases are tricky. You don't want to open the door to lawsuits that inhibit a free press. Allowing expensive discovery too easily can do that. On the other hand, the NY Times republished a blood libel that we all know that they knew was false. Funny watching two States deal with the same issue differently. We often travel from Baltimore to Rehoboth beach, and back. And usually up I-95 to Christiana and then back down three Dover. I-95 at the Susquehanna river in Maryland? Two dinky EZPass lanes, where you slow to 10mph o go through. The rest is all cash, with summer backups which just seem to go of miles. Several miles up, Delaware has a toll. Monster size EZPAss only left lanes where you flow through at 60+ MPH. Never a backup. But, Maryland would rather ensure a paycheck for the toll takers.

Obvious conclusions and observations

It's high time that American citizens took action to ensure FOIA enforcement and full compliance by the same organizations with delegated oversight responsibility for competent public administration. It is interesting to note that each reported case of recalcitrant denial of valid FOIA requests always seems to involve subject matter that is potentially very damaging to government officials. This is precisely why such data must be exposed to full public view. Full transparency and integrity go together like a fist and glove. Ergo, we must ask ourselves whether cloak-and-dagger secrecy conceals much larger underlying harm.

Yup. I work with one of the Army's recruitment programs and there are all kinds of issues with transgenders. Cost the taxpayers millions of dollars in administrative costs just to change forms, applications, etc.
.
.
.That was another point I forgot to add, do you recoup enlistment/reenlistment bonuses?    If so is it full or partial?

Who determines if a person is actually a transgender?  Is that an administrative determination or a Medical one?   Do you only kick out people who self report being a transgender?  What about someone who just cross dresses?

I  was in Navy manning when Clinton changed to the don't ask don't tell policy and it took a couple of years for DOD to sort out that whole mess and get it right.  All the while DOD was getting hammered with Civil Rights lawsuits from the ones who we kicked out and settling the majority of them because there was no precedent to back us up. The exact same thing will happen here.

And there will be people in "romantic" relationships who squeal and accuse someone of being a transgender.  It happened then it will happen now.

We also had people gaming the system and saying they were gay to get separated so they could get out of deployments.  I expect the same thing will happen here.

I did see one the other week where the northbound flow was so heavy that it had simply overcame the ability to have all lanes re-merge into normal lanes. 312 Interesting article at the Christian Post by Julie Royce on the roots of Gnosticism in the Transgender movement.

"Though Gnosticism waned after the second century, it never really died out -- and has persisted throughout the centuries as an undercurrent of Western culture. Today, it is the driving force of the LGBT movement, though many LGBT advocates likely have no idea they've succumbed to this ancient lie.

Yet only a Gnostic could say that one's biological sex doesn't matter; the only thing that matters is what you think and feel. Only a Gnostic could say that a boy is a girl in his head and heart, when his anatomy shows he is male. And only a Gnostic could allege that the physical design of the male body, obviously intended to unite sexually with the female body, is irrelevant; the only thing that matters is one's internal desire.

To Gnostics, matter doesn't matter. But to Christians, matter matters very much."

OK...if you insist. Our community is a very high density area. And we suffer a large number of vehicle break ins that leave no evidence of the method used. And....we have NextDoor as our community social media. We also have: 1. video footage of individuals walking down our narrow streets at 0400, methodically lifting door handles, looking for unlocked vehicles. 2. A large population of younger families, who are convinced that we live in a civil society, and locking your car is a sign of living in fear. 3. Individuals who report that everything from laptops to wallets have been stolen overnight from their cars. 4. Police who I interact with at the Precinct level on a weekly basis, who report that most apprehended individual are juveniles. From the city 5. Apprehended suspects, when asked why they hit our community report that there are lots of unlocked cars in the community, usually with valuables. 6. No apprehended individual in the greater metro Baltimore area has ever been caught with, nor confessed to using a remote unlocking device. So, we have residents who are convinced that thieves are skimming their key fobs, so they store them either in the microwave, or in the freezer. With many of them also buying RFID blocking containers to keep their keys in overnight.

339 WASHINGTON -- In the hours after European antitrust regulators levied a record $2.7 billion fine against Google in late June, an influential Washington think tank learned what can happen when a tech giant that shapes public policy debates with its enormous wealth is criticized. The New America Foundation has received more than $21 million from Google; its parent company's executive chairman, Eric Schmidt; and his family's foundation since the think tank's founding in 1999. That money helped to establish New America as an elite voice in policy debates on the American left. But not long after one of New America's scholars posted a statement on the think tank's website praising the European Union's penalty against Google, Mr. Schmidt, who had chaired New America until 2016, communicated his displeasure with the statement to the group's president, Anne-Marie Slaughter, according to the scholar. The statement disappeared from New America's website, only to be reposted without explanation a few hours later. But word of Mr. Schmidt's displeasure rippled through New America, which employs more than 200 people, including dozens of researchers, writers and scholars, most of whom work in sleek Washington offices where the main conference room is called the "Eric Schmidt Ideas Lab." The episode left some people concerned that Google intended to discontinue funding, while others worried whether the think tank could truly be independent if it had to worry about offending its donors.

Posted by: Sphynx at August 30, 2017 09:34 AM (OZmbA) Cuba could easily be turned into a Communist Theme Park. A quick invasion. A lick of paint. A new mascot- Marxist Mouse. And BANGO!.....Commieland!

361 We're fortunate to have both medical authorities and military recruiters here. Certainly one of them will know the US MOS code for "Unable to serve -- testicular veins just Too Damn Big." Because I had never encountered this.

And as the entire staff that attended my genital-reduction surgeries can attest, I have a testicular vasculature that makes an Enbridge pipeline wilt in discomfiture.

362 They should just change the name of Houston to Trump and be done with it!!! I still wonder when Chicago will be renamed Obama City. Someone should start a change.org petition.

365 The FBI is just as riddled with Deep State Obama-loyalists and bureaucrat elitists as any other agency. Obama codified lawlessness into the body politic. We may not be able to go back. Posted by: Mortimer - Finish Her! at August 30, 2017 09:31 AM (XkSQF) It might help if Elmer Fudd Sessions would look at an org chart and think "who are these tewwible people and how do I get wid of them". I don't think that's unreasonable.

366 Did Dr. K ever go into the dangers of having a narcissist at the helm of the Republic? I would suspect not, if he still wants to go to parties in District 1, young Mockingjay. Posted by: Lurking Queen at August 30, 2017 09:39 AM (5oWLH) TFG's vanity was a recurrent theme for Krauthammer. He caught it early on, and came back to it several times. Krauthammer isn't exactly a trump fan (hardly) but he nailed Obama's personality pretty quick.

367 The homeless encampments around here are already called Obamavilles.

Posted by: Mortimer - Finish Her! at August 30, 2017 09:31 AM ~~~~~ ^^^ Agreed. Pollyanna-ish, but I always held out the tiniest bit of hope that there were still at least a few patriots at the FBI.

372 26" of rain in 24 hours here in the Port Arthur area. Interesting night. The Motiva refinery, the largest in Texas, is starting a shut down this morning due to rising water.

373 That HR McMaster is a great find. Thank you for finding it! I wonder how true it is. This is the first I've heard of HR's mistakes at Tal Afar

375 So i assume that is SJL in the pic. I am sure Trump is just dying to give Houston $150B so SJL and give it to her black cronies.

Hey, that's RACISSSS!

I'm sure she has plenty of lick-spittle white cronies, too!
