The Morning Report 6/13/18
— Open Blogger

youmustbe.jpg

Good morning kids. Midweek and the top story for today is analysis of the Trump-Kim Singapore Summit just concluded and what the prospects and next steps are going forward. While CBD and Ace were perhaps much more reserved about it than I was yesterday at this time, both with good, sobering points that I do agree with, two enemy nations that have been in a state of war for 65 years (Panmunjom was a cease fire), with the rhetoric ramped up to eleventy-leven over the past 18 months nevertheless put that aside and at the very least sat down to meet face to face. In my view, from a political and diplomatic standpoint, that alone made the meeting an unqualified success. Now what remains is the question of next steps. And that really was the purpose of this whole thing; to get the ball rolling. As an aside, I find it interesting that the Senate now is reminding everyone about its Article 1 prerogatives, considering it spread its collective cheeks to let Obama do whatever the hell he wanted with Iran. In any case, this really was a major political victory for the President and, North Korea's history notwithstanding, a positive step for deescalating tensions in a geopolitical flashpoint, at least for now. Links with lots of analysis for your consideration in this regard.

Moving to Spygate, I posted yesterday of the vomit-inducing words of Rod Rosensteinpenis vis a vis patriots defending the rule of law which was followed mere hours later of a flaming skull report of the aforementioned threatening lawmakers who were rightfully demanding full disclosure on the nature and origins of the "dossier." Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan are hitting back with a draft resolution to force the Arnold Stang-looking tinpot traitor to fork over the documents or else... I don't know. The FBI, or minimally its leadership, is in open revolt against the Congress, and its putative head Jeff Sessionszzzz is nowhere to be found on this (mostly because since his recusal he's effectively ceded the DoJ to Rosensteinpenis. Check that; he was found - defending Rosen-Rosen. Not a good situation. I vote the FBI be abolished, except for the crime lab, and its agents absorbed elsewhere or retired.

On to Amnesty, where despite the hideous discharge petition falling two votes short before time ran out on it yesterday, now Paul Ryno is concocting some other insane deal to insure the GOP's already dead corpse rots down to the bone. The Democrats are immolating themselves almost on an hourly basis and could crash and burn in spectacular fashion come November. Except for the GOP-e. The administration is warning them about the perils of attempting to pass a clean DREAM act that goes against the Trump agenda. In more positive news, the new government bureau charged with combatting citizenship fraud has hit the ground running and is already aggressively targeting those who obtained citizenship under false or criminal pretenses.

In related news on the political front, there were some good signs coming out of yesterday's Super Tuesday Primary results, with several MAGA candidates ousting the cucks, flunkies, RINOs, DIABLOs and CoC whores. Most notably, Mark Sanford is out in South Carolina. I'd like to think the President's Tweet telling him to go to Argentina (a reference to his mistress) had an effect, but I think South Carolinians were sick of him. Other races are covered in the link at Breitbart. An initiative to split California into three states will be on the ballot in November, a clueless professor has fantasies about the aforementioned as well as DC and Puerto Rican statehood, Clare McAssKill is a fat hypocrite and despite everything, Hollywood will be out in force to grind any hope the Democrat-Left has of victory in November '18 and '20 into the ground.

In First Amendment and Media news, a judge has ruled that AT&T can go ahead with its plan to buy Time-Warner, Little Shitler Camera Hogg is bemoaning how the end of Net Neutering causes voter disenfranchisement or some such teenage drivel, and Juanita Broaddrick's book about her alleged and probable rape by Bill Clinton has suddenly vanished from Amazon. I guess it was hate speech, right?

Back over to the international scene where, despite the magnitude of the Trump-Kim Singapore Summit, an even bigger one with Chi-Com leader Xi, and several other regional nations in Shanghai is coming up, Venezuela is in the shitter, Trump forces Brezhnev-Brow Trudeau to do a 180 on Iran, and Caroline Glick on how Prince William's upcoming historic visit to Israel ain't all it's cracked up to be (mostly because of the House of Windsor's barely concealed Joo-hate).

On the domestic scene, with the ticking time bomb of the impending entitlement disaster comes the dueling links of a Social Security employee insuring his own security by securing over $600,000, and despite record personal income tax revenue last May, we still ran over a half trillion dollar deficit. The Democrats are suddenly bitching about Obamacare rate hikes when they were oddly silent about it a mere four years ago and the AMA is drinking the Kool Aid for assisted suicide. The great Walter Williams has a warning about social justice garbage infecting academia's math classrooms and more tales of Bill DeBolshevik's hatred of private charter schools.

From hither and yon, Rump-Roast Clyburn is joining Nazi Collaborator Soros' Open Societies Sores commie front group, a group of teens who were just turning their lives around beat up a NYC bus driver who -gasp! - insisted they pay their fare, a related link about Black America going off the cliff and finally, one of the last Navajo code talkers, Samuel Tom Holiday has passed away at 94. RIP, sir and thank you.

Anyway, links from around the world, across the nation and up your street. Have a better one and remain blessed.

29 "PDT helps take down Mark Sanford" First, I'm not buying the headline because just yesterday Allahpundit over at HotAir was asking why Trump wasn't trying to take out Sanford. I am not on board with them getting 4 additional Senators - especially if it means robbing them from other states to maintain the 100 member Senate. This would essentially reward them for allowing mass immigration, allowing them to then vote, etc.

39 I find it interesting that the Senate now is reminding everyone about its Article 1 prerogatives, considering it spread its collective cheeks to let Obama do whatever the hell he wanted with Iran. The last two words are unneeded. It's become a cliche that Trump has forced the left to discover the idea of Constitutional limits on presidential power. This would be a good thing, except that it's well known that the document is over 100 years old, and no one understands it. (I still don't think Klein got mocked enough for that one.) I'm one of the "nothing really new here" brigade. I'm old enough to remember 1964. The bolshies have ALWAYS done this when a Republican wins - or even in danger of winning - the White House. They're just getting louder every time they lose one; but it's the same chant. What is a bit new is the heavy emphasis on making up standards for Republican success, then screaming about the failure to achieve them. Standards which we never recognized or aimed at, of course. But since when do they give a damn about stuff like that?

46 Amazing the different level of analysis between Trump sitting down with Whoa Fat and the entire Iran deal from St. Pants on Fire. 47 SC had 2 questions per party yesterday, all of which got 80%+ yes votes. For the R ballot, it was getting SC's tax code in line with Trump's tax cuts (whatever that means, but I take it as a good thing) and closing primaries by having voters register for a party. The Ds voted on the desire to use federal funds to expand Medicaid (they love 'em some OPM) and yeah, pot. Gowdy's seat is going into a runoff between a very hardcore conservative, Lee Bright, and an establishment guy, William Timmons. Bright got the most votes, but the #2, 3 and 4 vote takers last night were Graham types. Runoff in 2 weeks.

50 DNC Chairman Tom Perez, several House members and other top elected officials have already met with the group, formed by members of the entertainment industry in the wake of the 2016 election, that participants liken to a TV writers' room, complete with producers of such programs as "Veep." 65 Barbara Comstock won her primary yesterday. Her opponent got 40% of the vote. But even a squishy #nevertrump like Comstock is doomed in the DC burbs. There were 45k votes in the hotly contested Republican primary. In the Dem primary, there were 53k votes cast. That primary was not very competitive even though there were about 5 candidates. Oh, and there was not a primary for Kaine in the Senate to drive a higher level of interest.

66 I've been wondering if PDT changed the whole 'global terror' concept. Suppose the NorKs had been given pallets of cash from Iran as a down payment for future deliveries. PDT talks with Kim, and Kim is willing to give up the manufacturing business, but he's worried about getting killed if he doesn't return the money. Hence, the desire for American security guarantees and the warning from Iran not to trust PDT.

150 The Williams article is good, as usual. I keep arguing that, aside from trying to keep the few remaining embers of Constitutionalism glowing, the education battle is the most important one there is. (Maybe even more important than the former, really, if we remember the Irish monks' importance.) And also the folly of the STEM advocates' attitude of "it can't happen here." They were like a Japanese officer in 1943 saying "No problem, it's only Italy." If anything, they have some vulnerabilities beyond what the liberal arts did, e.g., the almost universal acceptance of Pragmatism in their concept of truth. The trouble is that, while you can get away with it if you don't dive too far, at bottom it amounts to saying "If I like the results, the theory is true." Really. Scott Adams has this infection; even Peterson has a (milder) case of it. Richard Rorty would be pleased, but the angels are not gratified.

157 Things change... People writing off Virginia as a blue state haven't done the math. Run the numbers with 25% or more of the black population voting with Trump. For decades, republicans have ignored African Americans because they thought it would be impossible to take them away from democrats. It's easy. Not by pandering more, but by redirecting their victimhood to the proper enemy - leftists. Every problem black America has is due to liberal policies. Continue on the Trump "How's that working out for you?" pitch and turn the volume up to eleventy.

158 150 The Williams article is good, as usual. I keep arguing that, aside from trying to keep the few remaining embers of Constitutionalism glowing, the education battle is the most important one there is. What is more racist? Accepting that black and women cannot do the MATHS and giving them a pass. Or creating programs to demand they learn and know the subject matter.

Serious question; do yo think that Sessions would play the straight man in this farce all the way through?  Butter up McCabe and all the various nefarious and then say "Oh, geez that's too bad" when they get convicted.  Is he basically doing the Smiling Assassin routine in public meanwhile he is giving the OIG teams all the rope and chain they need to drag these crooks down?

I know JS will say yes to that ( I think)  but do you think that going on Tucker and Kissing Rosenstein's ass so publicly is just for show?  Is there anything in Session's character that will allow him to come out and and do a little show boating on this?  If JS is accurate in his assessment, Sessions is old school, stone cold, nut puncher, which we haven't seen in some time.

He started off by reading his older sister's math texts because he was so fucking bored with everything else and, to their credit, the teachers realized he was a savant and put him in an advanced program where his best friend was a Vietnamese kid and it was off to the races for him. The first meeting of the DNC after having lost the election to Donald Trump and the Republicans. They've been shut out of power since 2016 with nothing to show for all of their torn clothes and money spent screaming about Trump. They have little hopes of gaining any real power back in 2022 with their only real hope of winning anything back in 2024. And the party elders are gazing over the exit poll information from the day before. Blacks haven't voted Republican like this since the 50s. More than 20% of the black vote went Republican. Survey results show a large distaste from the bloc for the Democratic Party's stances on immigration with signs that more will peel off if the Democratic Party doesn't alter course, stop advocating for open borders, and stop going insane over every cultural issue du jour. 234 Gotta' hand it to old Sessions ... he's certainly carved out a unique position on this - at least regarding his supporters here. Anytime he shows action ... it's good. Anytime he makes an announcement ... just Jeff doing his job. The way it should be done. But here's the bitch ... anytime Jeff DOESN'T do anything ? Whenever Jeff says nothing ? Also good. Just Jeff doing his job. The way it should be done. That's why I call it an Article of Faith. Because regardless of whatever Jeff does ... Jeff's doing the right thing. Even down to contrary statements like Action and Inaction. Both good ... whenever it involves Jeff Sessions. What I really don't know ... and this hit me last night after reflecting on the full-throated defense of Rosenstein by some - how much of the Faith in Sessions is really just Faith in Trump by Proxy. After all - Trump picked Sessions. And Trump has a plan for everything, right ? Trump doesn't make mistakes. Reminds me of Sunday School.

242 No public bus system runs at a profit. It just pretends to. Half the passengers get a subsidized/free pass. I believe it. And on a personal note about this: So, at my place of employment, you have large parking lots available, but you have to *pay* to use them. There are covered lots (ramps) and uncovered lots (surface). The rates on these things are ridiculous...this coming year it'll be $1300 for the year, and the year after they're saying $1400 (for covered) and $900 and $1000 for surface. This sucks, but at least it *used* to be a pre-tax payroll deduction. But, now my employer is saying that "no, because of the tax changes, we can't do it pre-tax anymore" and so it's really something like a $400 annual swing with rate increases...sigh. However, they *do* subsidize an annual bus pass...which is ok, if you live in the city, but holy crap does the bus suck. I mean, what would be a 15 minute drive for me is a *minimum* of 30 minutes...normally more like 50. Ugh... Sorry, just needed to rant about this for a minute.

But the Sacramento RT chief has engineered a near doubling of that 'usual and customary' salary benefits package to near $400k. Now all the rats will want the same...and get it because these City Councils and Boards of Stupidvisors are in on the racket. The problem stems from the pay. Did you actually watch the interview? What Sessions said is that there were other people in the room when Rosenstein supposedly made his threat including the Director of the FBI and the head ethics lawyer at the DOJ and they disputed what the Congressional aide said. In January. I would call that telling the other side of the story. In March Bob Goodlatte, the head of the House Judiciary Committee which has primary oversight responsibility over the DOJ, not the HPSCI, made a request to the DOJ for documents. The DOJ responded that they were processing the request and being mindful to redact any information that was being used in a GRAND JURY or CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION. I capitalized those words cause I'm getting tired of typing them and hopefully they sink in with people this time. It is illegal for the DOJ to turn over any documents used in a grand jury and unwise at least to turn over documents being used in a criminal investigation given how Congress leaks. Just last Friday, the 30 year head of security for the Senate Intel Committee, the guy who has a primary job function securing classified information, was arraigned after being INDICTED by a GRAND JURY for lying to the FBI about leaking. And some are surprised that the DOJ is a tad leery of giving classified information being used to build criminal cases over to the same group that can't keep a fucking secret more than 5 minutes? Things we know. There has been a team of prosecutors assigned to work with Horowitz since last summer. A criminal referral has been made against McCabe at the very least. Over a dozen senior DOJ/FBI employees have been removed from their job and most are either cooperating or facing indictment. There is and has been a grand jury empaneled in DC for months now. Congress leaks like a sieve and there are over 2 dozen criminal active leak investigations going on right now. And tomorrow we get the first IG report.

299 GMan, that sucks. No "park and ride" available? Oh, that's even *better*. They have a ride-sharing service. That's actually *more* expensive than just parking. But it's meant to be used from further away than I live. They do have a couple of "park and ride" lots available (also for a fee), but I live close enough to my work (for now) that it makes more sense to just suck it up and ride the stupid bus. The other thing is I've experienced some bad juju on the bus before (minor assault and harassment). That was a long time ago, but I can't just "read a book" or "watch something on the phone" while on the bus. I'm pretty much relegated to staring out the window and paying attention to where everyone is around me while on the damned thing.

308 @234 Unfortunately, Trump is saddled with that dishonorable piece of shit. Since the Senate has already told him they will not hold a vote on a replacement if he fires him, he would have to either recess appoint a replacement, which is also not going to happen as the McConnell has already committed to blocking recess appointments by keeping the Senate in continuous session. His only option would be to replace him with someone who has already been confirmed. That appointment would only last for about about four months according to provisions of the VRA act of 98. The disgraceful and dishonorable Sessions has pretty much fucked Trump. He's saddled him with essentially an AG who's checked out and the acting AG for all intnets and purposes, Rosenstein is a deep state creature. Also the third in line of succession who was a Bush appointee has resigned and has been replaced by an Obama appointee. So Trump can't fire Sessions and Rosenstein and use the succession rules of the DOJ. So unless Sessions gets a conscience and resigns there are no good options for Trump.

318 As arcane as it sounds some real work needs to be done just to de-weed the US Criminal Code. There are too many crimes about abetting-intent-to-sort-of-avoid-something-something-completely-vague, etc. If you want to limit the ambit of an out of control LE agency, you need to give them a clear (limited) mandate to go after things like murder, bank robbery, kidnapping and selling drugs and not much else. Tear all the other crap down and you also rein in all the gonzo prosecutors who get to railroad essentially by threatening a slew of vague (expensive/hard to predict outcome) "charges." This is the sort of thing a Cruz-Paul team could and should be deputized to sink their teeth into.

That's extremely common with most Public Employee jobs that have a strong union contract.

When we lived in CT there was a State Police Sergent that retired at 55 pulling in $105,000 in pension due to the over time he accumulated in his last three years.  His highest three years of earnings are what his retirement is based on with no cap.

He then came to our town as a School Resource Officer starting at $50,000 annually plus a generous matching 401k and other bennies.  If he can make it to 70 in that job he gets yet another lavish retirement check.

It is literally insane that he could retire from the State Police with a pension that is higher than his final regular salary.

Over a dozen senior DOJ/FBI employees have been removed from their job and most are either cooperating or facing indictment. There is and has been a grand jury empaneled in DC for months now. This is complex.  Let me try to break it down to bullet points and you can tell me where I am wrong.

1. Rosie is playing for Team Deep State

2 Rosie wrote the memo that authorized/green lighted the firing of Comey

3. Rosie then hires Mueller to investigate something he greenlighted

4 Rosie gave Muller unfettered powers, secretely

5 Rosie threatened to subpeona the records of congress people who are in charge of oversight (though this is partially disputed).

6. Either way DOJ is slow walking the requests, whether to hamper congressional oversight or to protect the sanctity of the OIG investigations.

7. Mueller softly defends Rosie on Tuca because he believes that Rosie is protecting information that Session OIG directed investigations have found that relates to prosecutions that might implicate Rosie himself?????

8.  Session's is buying time until he rolls the OIG report /grenade onto McCabe's conference table.

Sessions said that is not what the DOJ said and get this, he was blaming those paragons of virtue in Congress, guys who leak and put out false information pretty much daily, of perhaps not telling the whole story. What is further coming out this morning is that Rosenstein said if members of Congress moved forward with holding him in contempt then he would exercise his rights as a US citizen to subpoena their communications to prove his innocence. Why the fuck wouldn't Sessions defend his employee if he, the head of the FBI and the head of ethics for the DOJ disputed the claim of a staff member of Congress? I see the Congressmen are defending their staff, why is it surprising that Sessions would do the same? It's a pretty classic DC he said/he said that happened 6 months ago. 348 JackStraw: The first time the OIG hearing was listed on the Senate site, it was titled something to the effect, "Report on Investigation of Hillary Clinton Emails" Now it says this: "Examining the Inspector General's First Report on Justice Department and FBI Actions in Advance of the 2016 Presidential Election" I'm guessing it was changed because the Clinton email cover-up is tied so closely to the Russian collusion/get Trump scheme that they decided on a more inclusive title. Maybe we'll be getting a bit more than just Clinton email stuff?

these things are true, except for a quibble over Huber's assignment time (which I believe was November, and not last summer).  Also, I don't know how active Huber is in the process.  After all, isn't the Grand Jury in Virginia?  Huber is still actively working in cases in Utah and has not moved.  So we don't actually know if he's a fig-leaf or a real deal help to Horowitz.

There are plenty of administrative punishments that have been levied, and we all agree on those existing.  There is nothing else that we are aware of, and that includes JackStraw.  We know of no indictments.  No Grand Jury appearances.  No plea agreements.

The DOJ leaks like a sieve (witness some of the charges against McCabe!), so it's logical to think indictments or criminal investigations would leak if they were happening.  Nothing has leaked.  JackStraw would like to believe Sessions, the Silent Assassin, is keeping everything more buttoned up than anyone ever.  We'd all like to believe that.

So far, though, we look like idiots for believing in the AG, the DOJ, and the Rule of Law in America.

354 No, he did not. Go watch the interview again. Sessions said that is not what the DOJ said and get this, he was blaming those paragons of virtue in Congress, guys who leak and put out false information pretty much daily, of perhaps not telling the whole story.
====================

We disagree about this characterization.  He as much as lied in defense of Rosenstein, and he may have had good reason.  But I saw the interview and was actively discussing it while doing so.  Your view of Sessions may be correct in the long haul, and I hope you turn out to be right.  It'll be refreshing.

Indeed, and that may or may not be related.  But it was the Seante leaker and not the DOJ leaker (McCabe or Comey both have been identified as leakers) who was indicted.

So far.

364 The first time the OIG hearing was listed on the Senate site, it was titled something to the effect, "Report on Investigation of Hillary Clinton Emails"

Now it says this:

"Examining the Inspector General's First Report on Justice Department and FBI Actions in Advance of the 2016 Presidential Election"

Good catch.  I wonder why they changed the characterization.

Also, isn't this the second report?  The first report was back in April, wasn't it?

Another good question.  His job was Director of Security for the Senate Intelligence Committee, so I'd guess he got his job from the Majority.  That would make him a Republican.  But who really knows?  Not me.

375 Keep an eye on the Shanghai Cooperation Summit. It's turning into a big deal, now. Game changing group. Don't rely upon old knowledge or heuristics about the nations and issues involved. Don't just scan the issues and nations involved. Do some in-depth research. People, places, things, who, what, when, where, economics, military affairs, the whole deal. Don't think you already know what it's about.

Only quibble would be:

1- the complete asinine redact of McCabe's desk.  Doing so called into question EVERY redaction.  The desk is of such little consequence, it just shows how far the DOJ/FBI will go to make themselves look good - which totally backfired.

2 - having a previous security clearance (DoD) - it's damn near impossible to convict someone because - as you allude to - discovery.  In order to prevail at a trial, things become public.  There is actual evidence that - rightly done - should not be made public.  Thus, these folks get shooed away and not prosecuted.

378 Jaames Wolfe was a long time security director.  I'm guessing - it doesn't matter whether he was R or D in the long run, because he probably held it for many years.  Though to venture a guess, he's a D.

382 "Why the fuck is the Canadian Dollar stronger than the US Dollar? Posted by: Brave Sir Robin

77 cents American buys one Canadian dollar.

A weaker USD would help US trade ... recall we complained about China artificially suppressing their currency, and that is part of why we buy so much so cheap.  The other part is they (and our American oligarchs that invest there) use throwaway workers, pollute like crazy, steal our tech, and put chemicals in their pumped up shrimp and fish they sell us.  But BigMoney loves that ... cha ching for them.

Oil is up because of the cartels trying to limit supply as I understand it, but haven't really followed it.  Drill Baby Drill.  Maybe some threat of unrest and sanctions, idk.
