Bye-bye, cocksucker!

6 WTF?
I expected a little more professional quality.
Looks like someone gave the video camera to his 10 year-old, ADD afflicted sister. They kept forgetting they were supposed to be filming.
After working many Magic acts during my career, my mind kept saying "Switch".

Ugh. Like Bismarck said, you don't want to see the sausage being, er, strangled.

What's troubling is that apparently some of Sadr's thugs did the deed. Not the army.

Only helps the status of the Sadr army at the expense of the Iraqi Army.

Not good.

13 I saw a flash from the grassy knoll behind the guy in the blue jacket.

Plus, the guy in the tan jacket, the one adjusting the noose, is named Lee Harvey Achmed.

34 Man, that's satanic. I can't believe you'd post the link to video. Isn't it enough to know that he's dead?

If you're a Christian, Ace, you should think about being mindful of what you publish. And if you're not a Christian, well, clearly, you need to find the Lord.

Posted by: Sick at December 30, 2006 05:30 PM (O2B0E)

35 What, do you suppose, were his last thoughts?

How many people actually know the moment of their death and what goes on, privately, inside one's head? A prayer for forgiveness I would hope. Of course, that would require remorse, and I can't believe that he felt any.

Posted by: jmflynny at December 30, 2006 05:31 PM (iAdm7)

36 Call me sane but this looks like a scene from a HIDDEN camera that wasn't supposed to be there. The loss of picture just before he's hung looks like whoever is trying to conceal the camera teporarily. Bearing this in mind it's a great video.

43 They need to dump his corpse in an unmarked grave! That would be justice.

Posted by: Mr Minority at December 30, 2006 05:42 PM (gwfvN)

44 Strangely, Saddam is offered a scarf to protect his neck. Now, really!

One of the guards must have thought that he was a training seminar for excutioners, he seems to be describing to Saddam the whole process of hanging and what he must do to make the whole thing go smoothly.

Saddam is also offered a hood but, apparently, refuses it. Good call. The hood does not help the prisoner, it actually adds to the terror. Its sole use is to make the witnesses not have to watch the prisoner's face as he is killed.

Posted by: jmchez at December 30, 2006 05:42 PM (x9L80)

45 he finally gets the 'red card'

I remember reading an account once -- not sure whether it was verifiable -- of a condemned murderer who fought the guards all the way, struggling, yelling, and cussing the whole time they were wrestling him into the chamber and strapping him in to the chair. He might even have gotten a shot or two in on the guards.

At long last, the exasperated executioner bellowed, "That's enough shit outta YOU," and hit the switch. Those words came to mind when I heard the news last night, and hopefully someone said something to that effect before they pulled out the trapdoor on him.

I think the cameraperson is the same one who shot "The Blair Witch Project." Must have trouble getting gigs over here after that.

Posted by: Alex at December 30, 2006 05:46 PM (1oJn1)

46 'They need to dump his corpse in an unmarked grave! That would be justice.'

I hear that's the plan. Same as Al-Zarqawi.

48 I got some fine Allah-lovin' honeys lined up for serious Hangman action!

Posted by: Saddam's Hangman at December 30, 2006 06:04 PM (FWrFx)

49 What is posted on the net was shot by a witness using his cell phone. There was an official camera man. He was interviewed after the execution and said that he was standing on the platform when the trap door opened. I don't think the official film has been released. There are some translations of the arabic on lgf.

Posted by: kma at December 30, 2006 06:32 PM (dFRci)

50 Wow, does death video make you look fat or what? If Sadsack Hussein hadn't died he'd've had to go find jenny craig.

Posted by: sandman arriveth at December 30, 2006 06:42 PM (A+E39)

51 BY the way, didn't Saddam look youthful and carefree just as he felt that trapdoor give way. Clearly the Iraqis have alot to learn about carpentry, if they can't even keep the floor from giving way. Naturally, I an somewhat disappointed with the way our tax dollars can't even get a decent floor built over there. Shameful. But that popping noise you hear in the background...priceless.

Posted by: sandman arriveth at December 30, 2006 06:47 PM (A+E39)

52 perhaps they could find time for maury povich, margaret cho, the Baldwin brothers(just about any of them would do) and dennis rodman. no reason to waste a perfectly good gallows and accompanying room full of ululating fundamentalist asswipes, is there?

Posted by: sandman arriveth at December 30, 2006 06:50 PM (A+E39)

53 Personally, I find men in masks chanting in arabic more macabre than the actual hanging.

Posted by: kma at December 30, 2006 06:52 PM (dFRci)

It looked like he became very emotional in the final seconds.

Bart, I thought the same thing.  I thought it looked like he actually began to cry.

Dennis Miller, speaking of capital punishment, said that there are some people who are so evil that you have to thin the herd.

Saddam just got culled.

Posted by: cranky at December 30, 2006 06:54 PM (Xj2Ev)

55 those weren't chanting arabic men but the Angelina and Brad caravan, hoping to adopt Saddam before he suffered abuse by adults. If you look carefully you can see Ed Norton, bad actor and Pitt hanger-on lurking near the steps trying to get an
autographed photo from Brad. The rest of the group was leftover revelers from the TOMKAT wedding. Xenu was THIS CLOSE to clearing Saddam to the next level...he didn't have the cash, sadly enough.

Posted by: sandman arriveth at December 30, 2006 07:00 PM (A+E39)

56 No matter how you cut it, that death video was still better than any movie by Steven Seagal or Hulk Hogan. The budget was probably bigger, too.
It deserves a sequel more than Snakes on a Plane, that's for damn sure.
I nominate Margaret Cho for the sequel. She's already hanging around.

The whole execution has a rushed feel to it, like they were making it up as they went. There should have been a band, maybe a drum corps to play a long drumroll right before the trapdoor opened. You know, make a ceremony of it.

Maybe sell t-shirts: "Hangin' With Saddam! Baghdad 12/29/06"

If only Ford were still president, he could have pardoned Saddam!

Carter would have sent a hit team, then chickened out.

Regan would have Star Wars lazered him! Bzzztt! Smoking pile of Saddam ash!

Bush Senoir would have sent the troops to kill Saddam's ass, but the UN would have stopped them.

Clinton would ask Saddam to "kiss it"

Finally! A president who gets the job done! Hooray for Bush Jr!

80 Sadam... Was he from Iraq or Afghanistan? Ah yes, Iraq, the same place that caused 9-11. No wait that was Afghanistan. Iraq was where Bin Laden ran his terrorist operations. No, that too was Afghanistan. Was Al-Qaida associated with Iraq? No, that too was Afghanistan.  Hmmm? Afghanistan is the place that was trying to sell oil worldwide and now only sells to coalition countries. Nope , Iraq has the oil and with Sadam out of the way the US now controls it... Poor Sadam; never wanted to hurt an American, never allowed terrorism, ensured Iraq citizens obeyed the law, obeyed the UN sanctions and never had any WMD's. Too bad he had oil and wanted to keep his coutry's wealth in his country. Oh well, now he's gone and maybe someone will remember to restart the hunt for Bin Laden... If the US can ever afford to send troops any place but Iraq. Bin Laden's people are is still out there and had nothing to do with Sadam or Iraq!!! Want to know why they haven't attacked the US since 9-11? Because a key rule of war is to never interrupt your enemy when he's doing something wrong. Even Bin Laden is a George Bush supporter.
