Texas Senate Runoff Night: Cruzin' or Losin' update: CRUZ WINS
— CAC

Results here. The winner regardless will crush the Democrat in November, though having Cruz surge through would be nice.

Haven't had a Tuesday night worth blogging about since that glorious moment a few weeks back when Governor Walker was all out of bubblegum.

Polls close at 8pm EST

I'll also be watching turnout for the Democratic side, just for the lulz.
Updates will be here:

CURRENTLY - Cruz 236k to Dewhurst 202k
EARLY VOTE TOTALS- DALLAS COUNTY: Cruz 17,053 to Dewhurst 16,780
EARLY VOTE TOTALS- TARRANT COUNTY: Cruz 19,683 Dewhurst 15,078

CURRENT COMBINED D PRIMARY VOTE: <105,000

AOSHQDD call: Cruz has won the runoff

7 OT: Top Ten Signs You May Be Robbing The Wrong House. 10. As you pull up to the house you intend rob, you hear on a loudspeaker "All ready on the firning line". 9. There is a chalk outline of a body on the front porch. 8. The County Coroner parks the meat wagon in the neighborhood to save time. 7. The backyard has a 55 gallon drum filled with spent brass cartridges. 6. There is a teddy bear, candle and photograph of your late homie at the edge of the property line. 5. The car in the driveway has decals of six hoodie silohouttes with X'es through them. 4. You notice a windsock flapping from a flagpole. 3. You notice a bumper sticker reading "I'd Rather Be Shooting Felons" on the homeowners car. 2. You hear the sound of gunfire and notice a stream of red streaks heading in your direction. And the Number One Sign that you may be robbing the wrong house...... When you ring the door bell to make sure that nobody is home, the chimes play Taps. [my personal favorite is #6]

110 >>>Uh, CAC, if Cruz actually wins this thing, can we call this yet another great election night for Sarah Palin?

Why would we?  It's not like she had much of anything to do with Cruz's surge.  Sure, she came in late in the game, when he was already ahead in the polls, to 'vulture' some credit off his impending win, but the real driver behind Cruz's victory was the massive grass-roots push for him plus major independent (read: Super-PAC) spending.  The ones who deserve kudos are Jim DeMint as well as National Review, which gets major early credit for featuring him on their front cover the same way they did for Rubio VERY early on (before the first primary) and pushing hard for him, increasingly his visibility in a major way.

Sarah Palin isn't the cause and effect of all things.  She really doesn't move many votes at this point, really.

@102-Whoould have thought Texas would go for a government lawyer, educated at Princeton and then Harvard law over a former air force and CIA officer who built his own fortune in the oil business.

I don't know, maybe we just don't like someone who proposed a "value added" tax and is a squish when it comes to what's important. Don't be bitter, you can always pull the D lever in November....

127 Who is it that keeps saying the Tea Party is dead? Balancing a budget, believing in a smaller government, the Constitution, free markets, less spending, lower taxes -- are never dead notions. Note to GOP: if you say you're conservative, act like one.

128 The reason it's fairly safe to say that it's over and Cruz has won is because almost all of the vote that's in so far is EARLY VOTING.  That was supposed to be Dewhurt's big tranche of votes -- he was obliterated by Cruz on election day back in the first primary and only kept his near-50% margin because he racked up major EV numbers when Cruz still had no name-recognition.  But this time he's actually LOSING the early voting numbers...and unless the electorate for this run-off (which you'd think would draw mostly hardcore, committed partisan Republican) is significantly different than the one back in June, Cruz is actually going to open up a bigger lead when today's votes come in.

Read my #128, which explains why Dewhurst is doomed.  He only finished ahead of Cruz in the first primary because he won the early voting by a massive margin (he got blown out by Cruz on election day).  This time, however, Cruz is actually LEADING the early vote, which means he's gonna *swamp* Dewhurst when the election-day votes start getting tabulated.

She replied "Yes Sir" and handed me a sheet, where they had every candidate for every position down to dog catcher vetted! Now standing in that hot sun, handing that stuff out all day is real determination. I told her I'm voting the straight tea party line. Now for this election in Texas..its hotter than Hades down here right now (well over 100) and as humid as a steambath. Only the most dedicated voters are turning out and it seems to be mostly tea party guys and hard cases like me. I predict a repeat of 2010 (a republican/tea party landslide in the House) where we finally take the Senate away from the Dems. Except for 1 thing, alot of Republicans have fallen or ARE going to fall to Tea Party GUYS (I hope). Its our way of holding Mittens AND THE REPUBLICANS FEET TO THE FIRE, so they do the right thing and do not ignore the will of the people! It's alot of momentum going on right now for the Tea Party. RINO Senator Lugar was defeated in IN after being targeted by the Tea Party. They failed to recall Scott Walker due to Tea Party Support. I can't wait for November.... It isn't over. Cruz still has to go to DC and BE a true Constitutionalist.  You may be right, but Dewhurt has been absolutely sleezy for the last 6 months.  It has been disgusting watching a "Republican" run like a scumbag Democrat.  Not once did I feel that Dewhurst would go to DC to do anything but to be McConnell and even Reid's buttboy.  At least Cruz talked the talk; feel better that I'll see from him the walk.

212 Cruz ASKED Palin to come speak and support him.

Yeah, that is a mark against Cruz as far as I am concerned.
I have very little respect left for Palin. She had the wool pulled over my eyes all the way up and until the way she behaved this last presidential election cycle. Back when I believed in her being a 2nd amendment loving free market supporter.
However, after the way she stabbed Perry in the back i went back and actually reviewed her record and saw how spineless she is when it comes to endorsing rinos.
I.e., Orin Hatch, Carly Fiorina(sp?), newt and others.
Appointing pro abortion judge.
Increasing business taxes by 400% on alaska when it had budget surplus resulting directly in job and business loss for alaska.
And the fact that her whole "crony capitalism" war cry has aided the left in demogoging capitalism in favor of socialism/statism/nationalism/communism/marxism
Crony capitalism should NEVER have entered the lexicon of the Right while crony marxim is growing in America thanks to politicians such as newt.

Cruz would probably have got my vote had he stood on his own legs and fought for himself.
Hopefully his actions will match his rhetoric... which will make one of the few times a lawyer turned politician didnt double talk his way into office.
And hopefully dewhurst cant do more damage than he already did for the next 3 years we are stuck with him.

Yeah, Hannity is insufferable, but the blame lies with conservative media consumers who make him the second most prominent voice on the right. We should demand better, but we don't.

Cruz carried the day here but was losing in the early voting. I'm so pleased. Hope Cronyn gets the message.

Pretty awesome skill you have for escaping reality.
Is it learned from the Left, or were you born the way you are?

By all means tell me how Carly Fiorina is more conservative than Chuck Devore
How Orin Hatch was more conservative than his TEA Party opponent.
Newt conservative?

At some point Newt would have shown his true colors anyway and we would have been devastated having known we’d earlier prostituted ourselves up in front of the country introducing him and acting like that good ol’ rich white guy is the savior of the party, ~Sarah Palin

231 I like IOTW, if you have good google fu they helped me very early on when Mia Love was an unknown in a 3 way race for the nomination.  I also happily comment there and here.   Of course their are some partisan diff, like McD and Burger King are similair but not the same.  In the current battle its parasites and white leftist ruling class against the rest of us.  So I hope everyone can cool off and keep the real enemy in mind.

That bring me to my next point, remember how during the Bush years the left was convinced Bush was the real enemy and alqadea was a minor actor?   In the age of almost 2 trillion per year in new debt and social security headed for the cliff..  I have more fear that my earned dollars will be increasingly less, my children will be indoctrinated in an unhealthy public school, their souls and minds corrupted from the lefts anti conservative values media complex, molested at the airport etc.. etc.. etc.. then I am that I or my children are going to be victims in the next 9/11.  Even if so, you die in one day... with the lefts "fundamental transformation into eurosocialist democracy we follow their path where we die a little more each and every day.

232

This is a good night in Texas. However, something I find ridiculous and almost shameful is the meager voter turn out. I'll be generous and say that when all is said and done tonight, 9 or 10 percent of registered voters are deciding who will be a senator for 25 million people. (ok, 13.5 million if you divvy up between the senators) Why can't people get it in their heads and their hearts that voting matters and voting is one of the most important rights they have in this country? I never buy into the "my one vote doesn't matter". When you start talking about literally millions of people that think this way, you are talking real numbers and that is a number that can swing an election.

This is when I get on my soapbox and argue with people about the popular vote versus the electoral college. A person whining about their vote not making a difference should be thankful to the Founders using the electoral college system. Simple version is a single vote has more power in the electoral college system than it does in a popular vote. So, sure, when 100 million people vote for president... your one vote doesn't seem to matter. However, in the EC, your vote is in your community(or district). Your one vote in Podunk, LA (population 500) could easily swing your district. Swinging that district could swing the state and the state could swing the whole election. The G.W. Bush win was a perfect example of this fact.

It also forces candidates to spend time in and listen to the people of the smaller populated states. Otherwise, every national election would simply center on California and New England and those two areas (heavily liberal) would decide everything for the entire nation.

Back to the main point, we must all do our best to convince our friends and family to muster up the energy to pay a little bit of attention and actually trudge down to the polls and cast a ballot. I did it today and it took me all of about 10 minutes from parking lot to vote and back to parking lot.

I thank God that we have the luxury of taking voting for granted in this country, but I lament the DEGREE to which it is taken for granted. This presidential election of 2012 is probably the most important election in our lifetimes.... maybe even in our history. We are voting for the soul of the United States. Do we shrug our shoulders and give up and resign ourselves to our journey into the darkness of utopian socialism? Or do we stand up with our forefathers... shoulder to shoulder with Washington, Hamilton and Madison and fight to protect that which they created and handed down to us? They gave us a gift of unimaginable beauty and value and we have nearly squandered it. We took our eyes off the ball and let the progressives have it for far too long.

Let's get it back in November.

Simple, she isn't pure and she thought they could win.  McCain, we all know why, loyalty.  Carly well who cares they put the Moonbeam back in charge as governor and he has a solution, raise taxes.  Orin, ????????, I have no idea what she was thinking there.  What Tea Party candidates ran for President as pertaining to Newt???  Methinks she just didn't want flip flopper to win, granted at least he is fighting.  I just hope Romney really wants to be a great president and not give us the same ole!

Congrats to Cruz!  I hope the establishment is crapping their pants!
