Stuff Jefferson Said, 3rd Edition, Revised*
— DrewM

It's funny because it's true.

This, along with the notion that there was every really a period of pure objective journalism, is one of my personal pet peeves. When people (usually liberals) say stuff like this what they really mean is, "it's so mean and unfair when you conservatives fight back. Why can't you be "a good conservative"? You know, like Gerry Ford?"

Added bonus....Jake Tapper is getting drilled by liberals on Twitter over ABC News' decision to have Breitbart do commentary on Tuesday night. Their tears are like a lovely appetizer for Tuesday's main course!

*If you're new and don't get the reference, well, just ask in the comments (or read this)

29 What about the election of Cleveland, one of our own?

Cleveland admitted to having sexual relations with Maria Halpin in 1874. She later gave birth to an infant boy and named Cleveland as the child's father. He had agreed to name the child Oscar Folsom Cleveland after himself and his law partner, who, as it happened, could also have been the responsible party. When the mother suffered a mental collapse, the child was adopted by a couple living in the western part of the state. Cleveland never again saw the child or the mother.

Give me dirty laundry!

31 Along with this I would add that the entire idea of a nonpartisan press is completely bullshit. Since its founding America has had a very very partisan press that went out of its way to shill for the party that it owed its loyalties. Its possible the idea of a nonpartisan press comes from the fact that the Democrats after FDR just controlled the country for so long that the Democrat partisan press took over and that is where we were before the rise of the internet and cable news.

74 For all of the rancor of the 1800 presidential election we would do well to remember that, while they were bitter political rivals, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams were very close personal friends. And while politics did strain that friendship for a time it remained intact throughout both their lives. IMHO that is because they both loved this country and only differed over how best to advance its values. We need to get back to that- honest disagreement over policy by America loving individuals is a healthy thing. The problem is that one side no longer loves America. And it ain't our side.

Waterhouse, Nutmegs were typically imported into New England and were distributed by traveling New England peddlers. These folks were not considered high class people, they were after all the original "traveling salesman" in American lore. Some were known for selling phony nutmegs carved from wood.

119 John Batchelor and Jeff Bliss in the last minutes of tonight's program came on as something called "the field poll" was released tonight in CA and it doesn't look good for carly as it has boxer up by 8 points though still at 49%.  They basically called the race for boxer.  link to this poll

hard copy

Scott Rasmussen, a guy who my friend said predicted that BO would win by 6 points and then he did, wasn't too hopefull on fox tonight.....and rove was a bore.  With friends like rove, who needs enemies.  Anyway, these alleged republican pollsters don't seem too hopeful and that is very depressing.

I like Carly Fiorina, CA needs new blood, new ideas, and carly is just the answer.   But, it's not my state, it's their state and if they want to continue on their road to bankruptcy, possibly thinking the rest of the country will save them, that's their business.

Regarding the Murkossky radio station thing, I sent this to the KFQD radio station manager, Dennis Bookey at news@kfqd(dot)com:

You missed your big chance.  You missed your chance to stand tall and make a decisive move for the 1st Amendment.  Your default move should have been toward speech.  You could have worked it out later with that in mind.  The last thing you should have done is act so spinelessly, bending for obvious partisan blather.  You want the lower 48 to stop thinking of Alaska as a banana republic?  Cut through the state's corrupt politics.   Congratulations, champ.  You have no business running a radio station.

As a resident of the People's Republic of Clownifornia, I must inform you that nearly everything here is upside down and inverted. In fact I think our electrical poles are even reversed. If you plug a non-CA television into a CA wall socket it will either explode or show pictures of Barbara Boxer correctly adding 2 and 2, proving it is receiving programming from an alternate universe with a probability near zero.

While I understand that there is a strong predisposition among the denizens of this moron-blog towards the easily demonstrated benefits and enjoyments of Val-U-Rite branded vodkas and other alcoholic beverages, I would like to expound upon a recent development that has caught my attention.

Pinot Grigio mixed with a cheap soda.

Building on the values of cheapness and wastedness-inducing stupefaction, the practice of mixing cheap Pinot Grigio with even cheaper Pop-Top Fruit Punch Soda (tm) (or other locally produced store-brand or other cheap equivilent) cannot be improved upon. This is, in fact, a very cost-effective methodolgy towards producing something quite similar to a "wine cooler" without incurring the costs normally associated with a nationally branded product.

Simply put, crappy wine + crappy soda equals (in some isolated cases) a splendiforous drunken evening.

I don't think this relates to the actual post, but I am far too intoxicated to care. Off to mix some more before passing out in a puddle of my own emmisions. Or hobo guts. Again -- too intoxicated to care.

145 Just to recapitulate the lunacy that is Clownifornia, I just saw a regular public affairs show from the Orange County PBS station KOCE where the panel of three talked with the moderator about the upcoming mid-terms. All four of these people are opining that this is a bad time for Republicans. In fact one fat fuck in a suit, with a subtitle reading "Democrat, Lawyer," literally said everything is going the wrong way for Republicans, especially in Clownifornia. Now, as Monty tells us, CA is fractally boned, indeed, by its history of union and Demotard rule. But to claim that "everything is going the wrong way for Republicans?" Orange County must now be the epicenter for CA hallucinogen sales. For those of you not familiar with CA, Orange County is supposed to be a "conservative" stronghold. Yet this is the drool that comes out of the PBS station there. Make no mistake. CA is as boned and backward as NY. The stupidity here is so thick it threatens to collapse into a singularity and suck in the other states. Any electorate that would re-elect Jerry Moonbeam is less sentient than a weed, and we'll prove it Nov. 2.

That's 159 names.  Sadly no names similar to Lisa Meowski.  No Lisa 'M's either.

I got that from Alaska's election page here.  Notice that there are many peeps who were denied for not making the deadline.  And a couple because they were too young. :lol

Actually, some did *points to self*, but why did it take an Alaska radio host to make this happen?  If this had started much earlier, you could've had thousands on the list and maybe a few "Mur-whatevers".  Is there no conservative in that state who shares her last name?

Berlin, 20 years from now, 1989. There was dancing in the streets today as East Germany finally tore down the Berlin Wall. The joy was short-lived, however, as the wall was quickly replaced with a moat full of alligators.

Note: In 1989, the Berlin Wall did indeed get torn down.  No moat full of alligators replaced it.  Just Muslims.

184 This is pure BS. Checking the authoritative-sounding sources reveals that Reason is simply lying. None of that came from the candidates themselves. Some of it came from "their campaigners" but the nastiest most bizarre stuff came from unaffiliated supporters publishing newspapers or just giving speeches. Imagine today if we similarly attributed random attacks on politicians from the web to politicians. Even more obnoxious is Reason's admonition to "open a history book". Unfortunately Reason has turned into another adolescent left-wing blog a la Daily Kos. If you want real libertarian gruel, go to Cato or AEI. -Mercy

Mercy,

Comprehension problems on your part?  Is it too early in the AM where you are?

The video clearly notes that these sort of comments were common in early American elections, but with only a few being the actual quotes from the various candidates.

Instead of perusing websites, perhaps you should study a few of the campaigns of the day.  Whilst many famous/infamous lines were the work of campaign supporters and staffs, there's no doubt that the candidates themselves often supported & repeated some of the more, er, colorful charges against their opponents....

200 Jess,

Sorry that you find reality so troubling, but Reason lied and I'm annoyed to see Jefferson and Adams slandered.  This isn't complicated.  The ad puts words in their mouths "I'm Thomas Jefferson...because John Adams is a..." that they simply never said and it also makes it seems as though the candidates endorsed the nastiest stuff found in print.

The weasel words from Reason, "which is taken from statements made by, for, and against the nation's founders." only appear in the post but not the video, but even that's misleading.  Other than that, there are no qualifiers to negate the dishonest representation in the ad.

If some random blogger calls John McCain and "old bald SOB" prior to the election does that mean he's speaking on Obama's behalf?
