Steny Hoyer: "This Could Happen To Anybody"
— Ace

I agree now too.

I thought it was news when a Congressman tweeted a picture of his erection to a 21-year-old coed, but I've been reliably informed this is all just a misunderstanding not worth pursuing.

Carry on.

Via Thanks to StarChamberMaid.

Byron York Notices That Weiner's Non-Responsive Answers Aren't Very Convincing: But he's wrong, this is not a story.

As the distinguished gentleman Rep. Weiner says, it's time to "move on" from this "distraction" which we are "loathe" to pursue any further.

Also Noticing: Taranto, but this could have happened to anyone, and who are we to judge?

Move on, stupid bloggers. This is not a story.

Let's Give Rep. Weiner A One-Free-Boner Pass

Because God knows he'd do the same for you.

Some video of the fair-minded, honest Rep. Weiner below. I could link a thousand of these.

But he's a nice guy. Let's go soft on him. Let's give him every benefit of the doubt.

It's the right thing to do.

Like the NYT says, spinning on its own authority, this was probably just some unnamed staffer pulling a prank.

Yeah, that's it. That must be it. We've gone from hack on Friday, prank on Sunday, "staffer malfunction" from the NYT on Monday, and pretty soon we'll be entering "Please respect my family's privacy," so yes, let's just continue to pretend none of this has happened.

Welcome to 72 hours ago. Let's set the WayBack machine to Friday at 10:00 pm.

I have always thought of us as the Cavalry. The Calvary is inferior to the rest of the Army in power, but has speed and agility. This speed allows them to not only engage enemy Cavalry, but to scout enemy positions, skirmish and delay the enemy, and develop friendly battlefield positions.

For example, at Gettysburg, General Buford's critical development of the battlefield on day 1 where he identifies Lee's army headed to the field, occupies the favorable high ground and holds his position against forming infantry units until Union infantry arrives and deploys is an excellent example.

You rode in, spotted the advantage, dismounted and held the hill. And your general just decided to abandon you and your position with the rest of the Army. That's what it feels like.

6 I'll admit to being disappointed, but as I said so many times before, I'm not shocked: this was preordained due to Weiner's status within the Beltway politico and media (even *partisan* media) circles.  This is a man to be protected, because he's going to be mayor of New York, and then he'll owe the media a favor or two. (And vice-versa, you don't want him angry with you.)

Simple as that.  Power politics.  BTW, don't kid yourself -- "conservative" media plays by these rules w/r/t Weiner too.  They know which side their New York bread will ultimately be buttered.

26 "Somebody hacked into his Twitter account and injected material which I guess can happen to anybody, which was not generated by Mr. Weiner. It’s unfortunate. Mr. Weiner is pursuing the proper authorities to see if it can be determined who hacked into," he said during a pen and pad session on Tuesday. "I understand that it's (hacking into a Twitter account) is an illegal activity and the proper authorities ought to pursue it." There seems to be an implication here that the only question is whether Weiner should feel shame for being the victim of a hacker. How noble of Hoyer to reassure him that he should not, even if the pictures are dirty. You see, the dirtiness only reflects on the hacker, not the victim. I guess the one hope is that they consider it criminal and something to investigate. Well, they "ought" to investigate, anyway. By the "proper authorities", whoever they might be. Someday, whenever time can be found.

That shithead was going back and forth about this with ace on twitter. Arguing all those stupid points about why this shouldn't be covered.

And then that smug cock-sucker started to give ace shit about HOW DARE ACE drag an innocent womens name through the gutter. HOW DARE HE use her name.

And then, what really infuritated me, is he then played the HYPOCRISY!!!111!!! card.

"WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE 'ACE' TO BLOG WITH A PSEUDONYM, WHILE USING THIS INNOCENT GIRLS REAL NAME!!111!!!1!1"

So JPod, that cock-sucker, issues a veiled threat about releasing aces 'secret identity.

Then ace says fine, and redacts the girls name. Goes back to calling her the "Comely CoEd".

Fine. Super.

Meanwhile, C Fuckin' N Fuckin' N is using her real name in their coverage!

What was the guy stuffing papers down his pants?  Sandy Berger?

I think the Enquirer needs to put someone on Weiner.  He's obviously steppin out on his wife and will get caught, sooner than later.  I doubt very much this is his first foray into extra-marital affairs.

But, the reality is it doesn't matter if he goes down, this district will elect another insane liberal to replace him.  I think if this were a more moderate district that the GOP had any chance of picking up, you would see more interest in the story.  Not that it makes it right to ignore the story.

1. Elected Officials are given a pass on Background checks, as that information could be used by political opponents... they get Security Clearance whether they deserve them or not... and only because only Congress can censure them, the DOD cannot take them away.

2. They are covered by the Speech and Debate clause of the Constitution, and so are the only Americans left who actualy have Freedom of Speech... Note, that they LIE all the time in Congress, yet are never brought up on Charges of Lieing TO Congress, like a normal person can be... Best theory I've heard.  If you send a Personal messege, which is more than 140 characters, or that your Internet provider thinks is too big (like a text messege with a Picture attatched), it splits them up into two messeges, one Private, but one goes out Publicly to everyone following you....

So... Weiner Pic and text too big? SHE got the text... everyone got the Pic... which was why there was no Text on the Pic itself...

This info, by the way, on how they handle messeges of this type, is ON the Twitter site itself.

88 But the sneering contempt and veiled threats is what is so infuriating...

What bothers me is. So those who do blogging want a little privacy. Shouldn't they afforded that? Private citizens who want to write informal opinion pieces about news items, provided they are not news themselves?

What about young coeds involved in inappropriate consensual relationships with lawmakers? They now have an expectation of privacy? When they themselves are newsworthy not because a crime had been committed against them, but because they were a voluntary part of what most of America would agree is immoral? They now, when their exploits rise to a level of notoriety in American politics deserve privacy? Homewreckers have rights not to be exposed now?

How long did the MSM honor that little covenant for Schwarzenegger? Sanford?

Where was Jpod then? This exposes the double standard in such a way as to make it completely untenable.

Our side has, unfortunately, become far too used to the media embargo on all things that would cast a Democrat in an unflattering light or reflect anything close to reality. EVERYTHING is now "not the hill we want to die on" and "keeping our powder dry" is the never ending excuse. Meanwhile, the left (MFM, bloggers, protestors, strategists, pols, etc.) have no such filter on their accusations. Heck, they don't even need evidence, logic, or cause to hurl baseless accusations our way. A Dem gets shot? That's good for at least 2 weeks of 24/7 headlines about racist, violent Tea Partiers, complete with footage of violent lefttard protests (since there is no footage of violent Tea Party protests). An R- NY Congresscritter posts a shirtless photo on Craigslist? 1 week minimum of coverage on how immoral Rs are. There is why people vote stupidly. Because they are bombarded 24/7 with "Reasons Why Republicans Cannot Be Trusted And Are Racists". No one can ever cite a reason why, they just KNOW. It's "Commom Knowledge" with all those "Stories" going around out there.

High court rules out damage claim against Ashcroft

The Supreme Court on Tuesday threw out damage claims against former Attorney General John Ashcroft over an American Muslim's arrest, but four justices said the case raises serious questions about post-9/11 detentions under a federal law intended to make sure witnesses testify.

The justices were unanimous, 8-0, in holding that Ashcroft cannot be personally sued over his role in the arrest of Abdullah al-Kidd in 2003. The court sets a high bar for suing high-ranking officials, and all the justices agreed al-Kidd did not meet it, even though he was never charged with a crime or called to testify in the terrorism-related trial for which he ostensibly was needed.

Al-Kidd contended that his arrest under the material witness statute had a more sinister motive that violated his constitutional rights - federal authorities suspected him of ties to terrorism but lacked evidence that he committed or was planning a crime. And, he said, Ashcroft blessed the use of the law in the days after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to take suspected terrorists off the street.

A five-justice majority absolved Ashcroft of any wrongdoing. "We hold ... that Ashcroft did not violate al-Kidd's Fourth Amendment rights," Justice Antonin Scalia said in his majority opinion. The five justices in the majority on this aspect of the decision are all Republican appointees.

But one of those justices, Anthony Kennedy, wrote separately to stress the narrowness of the decision. Kennedy said the case left unresolved how broadly the government may use the material witness statute, which has existed in one form or another since 1789.

"It was supposed to be sent to my wife. I just got all fumble-fingered in a rush. Sorry for the mistake, but I can't help that my wife and I have a healthy sex life."

Ignore it and get back to republicans pushing Granny into a rendering plant. A republican posts a pic of his chest, something you would see at the beach, and clown nose is off. It's a scandal, a testament to his unworthiness of office. Hound him out.

My question.  Is all this stuff so federally funded that this is going to happen more and more?  Cause the first thing out of their mouths was "it's the damned republicans, they need to raise the debt ceiling so they can 'release' the money for my job"

You're too discouraged about the wusses over at Hot Air and NRO.  This is being picked up by others.  Just saw a blog post from WaPo (the "Right Turn" blog) on it as well as Taranto.  Weiner is so provably lying that this may be just starting to blow up.

I'm afraid we do have to temper our expectations, though.  This is the Democrat Party.  The party that kept a confessed manslaughterer in the Senate forever until recently.  The party that kept an ex-Klansman in the Senate forever until recently.  Historically, the party of (in order) slavery, secession, segregation and socialism.  All of which have been whitewashed as much as possible by a compliant MFM.  Boner pictures are small-time to a bunch of moral and ethical degenerates and their MFM enablers.

Anthony Weiner Tweet a Lewd Photo to a Woman?" http://tinyurl.com/3d59ttm I think it really raises eyebrows with the public when he won't even say whether it's actually a picture of him, or discuss whether he was actually hacked. Remember, there are people who were totally unaware of this story until this afternoon -- and the vast majority of people may be learning about it tonight. The good thing is that the story was so thoroughly and carefully investigated, and Weiner was pushed so hard, that he's really backed of the right-wing hacking conspiracy theory. So the first thing people are seeing is an affirmative accusation that he sent the picture, followed by his complete refusal to answer questions.

Hell too bad that can't work for the 10th ammendment.

You think the indie's are going to just love the sight of a bunch of conservatives all bent out of shape over democrat sexual escapades? Oh I know... it's about the lying. Cept this time the guy wasn't under oath. Boehner lied about every campaign promise he made.

Let's be frank with ourselves about what we got.

1) Sex. Nothing. Even if we had sex, which we don't have. We don't even have nudity apparently. I thought we had that. Now I think, it seems, we have partial nudity. Right out of the gate we're rated PG-13 maybe PG. But still nothing, even if I give you full points for a goddamn tape recorded dirty sanchez.

She doesn't work for him, it was consentual so far as anyone heard. You can speculate all you like, but it's for her to make the accusation not you. It's just speculation.

2) Infidelity from a democrat.

3) Lying about an affair on TV.

That's what you got.

You ain't got shit. You've got 8, 9, 10, jack, 3.

242 Greta is doing a piece on Weiners dick pics tonight This isn't necessarily a good thing. I've seen her throw up her hands at stories like this and end by saying stuff like "it's all he said/she said -- we'll let you decide." Hannity or Megyn Kelly would be relentless. But Greta has surprised me at times. Unfortunately, no matter what she doesn't she's going to spend too much time on the "Weiner" joke aspect of it, rather than the "Congressman cyber-rapes co-ed and tries to frame innocent bloggers" angle.

After stonewalling with lawyers, deleting a bunch of his own messages, claiming first he was "hacked" then "pranked", and then refusing to answer basic questions Weiner hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt here.

He did it, its obvious to anyone with 1/4 of a functional brain (including and ESPECIALLY the ones carrying water for him), and we don't need to pretend like there is some burden of proof that still needs to be met.

At this point, the burden of proof is on Weiner if he expects anyone to believe his BS story.

Entropy: "What's the exit strategy? How do you make him resign? You really figgure you stand to BENEFIT from just dwelling on it forever and insisting it matters?"

Are you obtuse? You expose him for who he is, all of him and all of his actions, and diminish his role in government. And, yes, dwelling on it is the rote repetition that not only sticks, but will be the only mechanism to break the media bubble.

301 @anonymousdrivel Are you disturbed? Why would I want pix of Weiners weiner?

Remember, Jeff, being actually genuinely horny doesn't benefit a woman in today's society. There always has to be some deeper meaning. Some angle to be worked.
It can never just be nature telling a woman it's time to get some sex.
Otherwise all of feminism falls apart like a house of cards.

You know that.

303 I'm tired of people covering for skeezy men who think it's ok to use women , especially young stupid star-struck ones like Scott towels  (maybe sometimes like soft, durable Viva Select-size, but at the end of the day disposable and interchangeable.)  Men whose vanity and narcissism must be propped up with external "proofs" of their prowess that are really nothing more than stepping on and using other people for their own amusement.  I want such men exposed and hounded out of public life or at least serious consideration of other men,  not coddled and cosseted and indulged.

I can't be alone.  It's been building for years, I think, this utter disgust and impatience I have with the left or men on the right who are guilty of the same failings of vanity.   John Edwards bought into these yarns Rielle would spin for him of being chosen and messenger of a new age.   The monumental Hitler level delusion required to buy into that is just astounding to me.

DSK can get away with rape, so long as he's so important to the cause (what cause - the cause of little people are tools and insects and  just don't matter in comparison with him.

Weiner has some sort of fixation and he won't be able to control it and he'll keep doing it.   Why is this man worthy of serious consideration by anyone?   He's got a wife, a beautiful wife - and doesn't need the cheap gratification of getting one over on as many barely legal girls as he can, and moreover a coward about admitting it.
Why does anyone think that's ok in anyone, let alone a congressman?
Why stick up for that?

Useless, creepy skeezy, lowdown waste who want to take my money and boss me around for my own good.  NO THANKS.

To the former, I refuse to answer on account it might incriminate me. To the latter, it's what all the kool kids are doing these days. It just follows.

306 Hey sifty, ladies love the love more than they can say. But not tweeted "self portraits". Visual is a fail. Tell her all about it, preferably in a resonant baritone, but the pics you send are for you, not her.

I think you don't understand me cause you are way older than me.  I don't spend my life on the internet.  I was barely around this weekend, I'm sure you noticed.   But we are all always looking at our email, on twitter even in social situations.  I don't think you grew up with the internet which is why you don't really understand.  also, we are online even at work.  the older IT guys think they thwart you and prevent you from getting to certain sites or from shopping but while you are working you can manage to shop and read on the internet.  We have been studying and doing our home work while accessing the computer for as long as we can remember so the extension to work is not abnormal.

310 "No, he's not, and if I'm not mistaken someone named Dustin (our moron commenter?) just made the front page at the corner under Foster's byline."

Yeah, that was me.  Not that the comment he front paged was anything other than what everyone has already been laying out a million times before me.

Yeah, Foster got a bit of a raw deal on our reactions, but think about what the press does.  99% of their job is choosing what to cover at all.  When someone chooses to cover this story without focusing on the 'circumstantial case' as Foster calls it (accurately) that's something a lot of people can criticize.

It turns out that there is an easy solution, and Foster took it, by simply highlighting my comment, which like most of the comments in the first post, lays out the part we wanted covered.

It's when press stubbornly refuses to do that, or goes way way way out on a limb (such as the John Mccain lobbyist affair that didn't happen) that we should really get ticked off.  This is a case of one of the good guys reacting smartly, instead of posing as 'the decider' like Charlie Gibson.
