27 quick non-relevant question - what's the movie that has the dialogue that goes something like "Would you say I have a plethora of pachyderms?"

Do you even know what a plethora is?

It's a comedy and the dialogue is spoken in a Mexican(ish) accent.

for the life of me spurwing plover, I can't remember the damn movie.

Oh ... and I can't watch anything Stargate without thinking that James Spader needed a damn haircut.  So water - no water ... fuck 'em.

Just one time I would like to see something  where the suit is designed with some semblance of what a real utility type space suit might look like instead of these sculpted with ornate BS dirt-bike-gear cobbled pieces of crap.

66 A great series - Babylon 5.
Had a beginning, a middle, and an end, all scripted before hand and the author went to the suits and said: I need 5 seasons to tell the story. If you don't give it 5, don't bother wasting my time.

5 seasons it was and it was great.

Anyone remember that show which was also 1 season long known as:
SPACE

it had the guy who was born in a tube instead of to parents and the song by Johnny Cash as they went into the black hole was the end of the show?

Where are the writers? The good ones?

Are they just doing shows for youtube?

Can't wait for Net Neutrality to "tier" my choices for bandwidth:
ESPN, and sports will add $5 to your monthly internet bill
FoxNews, WSJ, will add $10 to your monthly internet bill
Social websites like facebook and myspace and twitter will add $5 to your monthly bill
Youtube and Hulu will add $15 per month for bandwidth usage.
Your basic package will be equivalent to AOL's first package: $9.95

Remember those days?
Yuck.

I'm also wondering if the fat kid on Stargate universe is "counseled".

94 Babylon 5 - yeah, the pre-scripted arc was great.  Too bad the suits made JMS throw out the original script at the end of season 1 when they insisted that the lead actor be changed since they didn't like him.  The script he wrote on the fly that ended with season 4 was still pretty good.

Season 5 was about like Galactica's season 4.

96 Babylon 5. The first two years were so screwed up (can I say that?) that half of them were missing and the other half were out of order. I finally got my head on straight after I bought the entire series (on a going out of business sale. Via Circuit City) The first three years were a lot about fighting the Earth Government and the Sci-Corps. It was amazing that they got these past the censors. (The leftist kind.) The government shown then is a lot like Obama's vision of our Government today.

They did not kill off all the Asgard. There were some remnants that showed up in an episode of Atlantis season 5 and stole a neat little toy that destroyed any ship in the galaxy trying to enter hyperspace.

115 So the space bugs saved Lt. "Just call me Kirk" in a desert a day ago (actually he made a comment suggesting three weeks has passed since the first episode, but whatever) and now they get tossed in a subzero hell hole, and they seem okay with that?

And they're apparently not the presence responsible for flying the shuttle at the end of the first episode.  Weepy girl is now deeply attached to the Lt. so Eli's hopeless.  Maybe Major Rack will give him some pity lovin' before they're all dead.

Did I miss anything?

137 SG-U is obviously going to be a character driven show.  I'm fine with that.  I like most of the characters well enough so far, particularly Math Boy.  And glimpses of Major Rack alone are worth watching for.

I think that eventually the Destiny is going to become very very important in the SG Universe, as in, it actually -will- have significant impact on what's going on back in the Milky Way.  But before they can get there, they do have to go through these episodes where they actually get themselves set to survive for a while.  It'd actually suck otherwise, I think, if they were just handed this massively powerful ship in perfect working condition.  They're earning it.  That's a good thing.

139 @139

This.

I agree with you, I'd be a lot more irritated if they just happened to open a hatch while out exploring the ship and stumbled across 3 crates of ZPMs and food replicator technology (a la ST: TNG) that just magically fixed all their problems.  I like the fact that it's a lot more real than that - while allowing for the convenient Deus Ex Machina of having Destiny drop out of hyperspace right on top of everything they need, just in the nick of time.

Also, didn't Atlantis run across some type of little nano-robots at one time?  Or am I just on crank again?

What did you think of it?

Posted by: Kay at October 30, 2009 10:29 PM (TW1NB)

141 I would make the comparison that this ship, at one time, was pretty kick ass but due to voting in a janitor cleaner as commander, the ship went to hell and a handbasket quickly as the janitor cleaner got his union buddies all the perk jobs, made those that knew how to run the ship start cleaning toilets, and then the janitor cleaner invited all those that supported him or felt sorry for him being the janitor cleaner to the helm to take a gander at pressing buttons and steering the "Destiny".

Someone said this wasn't a program set in this universe but a different on. I'd make the argument that this ship had a moment of Sonstroke
and voted in the guy who promised everyone a great time on board the ship except those that had made the ship a great place to be in the first place.

Surprisingly, I now see a lot of equivalence between Barack Obama and Gaius Baltar.

147 How is it that the braintrust of the newly named SyFy channel gave up on that which worked so well in SG1 and Atlantis for this crap sandwich? The ep last night had to be one of the most boring in SG history. It was a stuffer episode. Unnecessary in the bigger story. Uh - then again, they've all been stuffer eps so far.

Why doesn't eth SyFy channel just bring back Babylon 5 Crusades. The show barely got started but had a bad theme song (if you can call it that) and had Lumberg as the captain.

First of all, Fatboy should be losing so weight due to the food rationing, right?  I mean, unless they have an unlimited supply of pizza, dr pepper and cheezy poofs somewhere on board that he isn't sharing with the rest of the crew.

Second, Fatboy doesn't stand a chance with all those marines around.  He isn't getting any ever!  If he did, this would encourage fat boyz like him to stay fat and play video games while stuffing their face with cheezy poofs and pizza.  On top of getting some from hot chicks, where would that even fit in?

Sorry no dice, he will have to make a female sex robot who is blind and has a total lack of any judgement.  The sad part is the fembot would still probably jump a marine rather than give eli the time of day, writers love to toture their characters that way.

I should write for this idiotic show, my changes would be thus!

1.  Suprise appearance of Barak H. Obama who through freak accident gets pulled through time and touts health care plan to the crew for audience viewing pleasure.  Midway through the speech, he gets eaten by spider alien, a definate crowd pleaser!

2.  Black marine guy hooks up with Major Rack and lesbian bureaucrat.  Yeah baby, that would be the title!  Ratings blockbuster right there.  That would be the whole epidsode, and yes they would do it in the stargate too.

3.  Fatboy gets some.  Pizza, sunkist and cheesy poofs that is.  All you girls know that you got the pick of litter on the ship.  I mean any of those encounters could be your last, your not going to throw it away on the fat virgin genius video game guy.  He recreates his moms basement in his own little space on the ship.

4.  Wet Tee-shirt contest!  In celabration of finding water ofcourse.  Let's face it, these chicks on board are kinda loose.  I mean, daddy sacrifices himself so that you may live and you go off to bang a stranger.  That would sure make me proud.  Anyway, I am sure they would go for it and watching the glistening strands of water cascade off some of those hotties would be worth the rating!

5.  Fatboy finally gets smart, uses the transfer stones to switch into good looking guys body and nails as many chicks as he can during ladies night at the Hard Rock!  Sponsor for that show, ofcourse the Hard Rock, name of episode, ofcourse the Hard Rock!

I am going to write out these scripts and see what happens.  If I do get an interview with the big whigs, I will take to beating all of them within an inch of their lives for canceling all the decent sci-fi and giving us this crap.  Stargate has always been a little cheesy, but for gods sake, stop this madness!

Anyway, I've seen prettier women go for uglier guys."   I am betting the alien chick will lure him in close with the promise of sex and chew him up so she may feed him to her brood.  Ugly doesn't not equate with Dork/Geek/Fat/WoW Player!  I am guessing on the WoW part.  Ugly guys can have money, power or charisma of some sort. The Eli character is average looking, intelligent and the perfect whipping boy for writers.  No Booom BOOm FOr ELi!!!   Think about this, they thought there were going to die and he got nothin.  He didn't even try the I don't want to die a virgin line!!!

I'm a die hard sci-fi fan, I never met a scifi I hated until BSG, and now SGU is trying their best to be the same pile of shit BSG was. It's the same crap, a completely dysfunctional crew who all think everything is about them. The "me" generation on a fucking starship.

How the fuck did any of these assclowns get on this 9th chevron project to start with? Did they send a bunch of frigging morons to that planet? I swear its like the whole fucking ship is filled with middle management types.

Oh those communication stones? How about instead of lou diamond phillips somebody get fucking daniel jackson on the ship to translate the ancient language for that asshole worthless kenny loggins looking waste of skin "doctor". Stick carter and mckay on the damm ship during one of those body swaps and fix SOME fucking thing so they can do something really cool like explore the god damn gallaxy or some planet. Mckay would have deactivated that bullshit 12 hour exploration window by now.

This whole frigging crew acts like there wasn't 10 years of a ripping stargate program before getting on this tub. Its like everything is new to them. Your gonna tell me carter couldn't crack the math problem code that fatboy did?

On the other side of things, I kinda like the colonel, he seems like a solid dude. Major rack has a seriously nice frigging rack. the rest are all wastes of skin.

Omg, so you wanna just end the whole premise of the show without my Wet T-Shirt Contest, eh?  Screw that!  Wet T-Shirt contest first, thankyou!  I could care less if their ship blew up after that.

Andycanuck, that is insightful, though the senator was kinda old and the flesh would be real stringy.  A diet of cheesy poofs, pizza and sunkist would make fatboy unprepared to consume that tough old hide.
