9 I was wondering if there was such a thing as a Japanese bear; I had the impression that bears did not migrate to Japan. North America, yes. Did they get this bear from Russia or America?

The best Japanese animal is the Hot Tub Macaca. No, seriously. Their monkeys like to jump into hot springs in winter.

10 Oh no! Bear is driving!

11 Not all the monkeys get to jump in the hot tubs.  It's an exclusive club.

Plus, if you're in the hot tub, your chances of nailing lacey (even after a couple glasses of pinot grigio) are slim.

12 From the gratuitous photo department at The Sun:

Woman has 26K Euros in her bra screams headline

The money was seized from a Romanian national during checks at the Port of Holyhead.

The woman, travelling to North Wales from Dublin, claimed she earned the money from the sale of a business in Ireland, but could not prove this.

She also could not explain why she had concealed such a large sum of cash in 500 euro notes.

Wow, it is against the law in GB to have money in your tits and they can seize it at will. (unless you can prove that you earned legally I presume).

61 Just an update from the golf course to let you know that I'm still all over the Gulf oil disaster. I've instructed my administration to no longer refer to it as a "hole", since this might be offensive to some of the guys at the bathhouses in Chicago. From now on, it will be called the "Halliburton Caused Disaster Orifice." I've also been told by my Energy Secretary, Nobel Prize winning physicist and experienced roughneck, Dr. Chu, that the giant cave underneath the "Halliburton Caused Disaster Orifice" can only contain the oil from approximately 10,000 brontosauruses, so within the next few days the oil will cease to flow and be replaced by the bright red flow of blood from Mother Gaia. According to my brilliant Science Czar John Holdren, I must appease Gaia with a sacrifice, so we must act quickly to pass cap and trade legislation, which I will ram down America's throat once I have decided to end my vacation....someday. I'm teeing up on the par 3 17th, so that is all.

They've had bears on the islands for quite some time.  In fact, they think that the common ancestor of the Asiatic Bears arrived in Japan at about the same time that it arrived in the Americas, during the last Ice Age.  And since the japanese have to turn EVERYTHING into a terror, look up the Sankebetsu Brown Bear Incident.  Yay serial killer bears.

They also have a breed of dog that was made specifically to hunt bears, called the Akita Matagi.

65 Now for the incredible stupid politician story from Fox:

Michigan Considers Law to License Journalists

A Michigan lawmaker wants to license reporters to ensure they’re credible and vet them for “good moral character.”

Senator Bruce Patterson is introducing legislation that will regulate reporters much like the state does with hairdressers, auto mechanics and plumbers. Patterson, who also practices constitutional law, says that the general public is being overwhelmed by an increasing number of media outlets--traditional, online and citizen generated--and an even greater amount misinformation.

That's interesting, Vic.

I'm not sure how to read "good moral character" though. If it's the obvious educational moral character,  ie, not be suspended/expelled for plagiarism, I'm all for it. But what if they lump DUIs or simple misdemeanors in with that? Not sure how criminal matters (felonies excluded) matter.

I wish they would have added that those coming out of J'school must have at least one logic class on their transcripts. We could avoid having people like Chuck Todd rise to the top of his field.

IF the stupid bill had a chance of passing it wouldn't last a week before it was in court.

It's an intersting question from a 1st Amend. POV. Not sure how they could treat it like a traditional trade and/or profession that's typically regulated under state law. One could make the argument that they owe a fiduciary duty to the general public and shoddy reporting gives rise to claims of neligence (a reaaaaaaal stretch I admit).
