Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“If the war against drugs is lost, then so are the wars against theft, speeding, incest, fraud, rape, murder, arson, and illegal parking. Few, if any, such wars are winnable. So let us all do anything we choose.” Theodore Dalrymple

Quote II

“Jeff Sessions and the Trump administration are still trying to fight a 1980s drug war that is socially unjust, economically backward and against the will of the American people,” Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR)

Did you ever use this for a pickup line? Hey Baby, do you want to get closer to God? Someone did a long, long time ago.

It was sex all the time at this 1800s commune, with anyone you wanted and none of the guilt
Life at the Oneida Colony was kind of a like a key party, but no one had cars and everyone was doin’ it for Jesus.

Do angels have sex? John Humphrey Noyes thought so. Related question: If they do the nasty in heaven, is it really so nasty after all? Noyes reasoned not. These were the basic philosophies that animated the creation of Noyes’s Oneida Community, a 19th century colony of so-called Bible Communists who believed that free love and ecstatic sex would bring them closer to God.
The story of John Humphrey Noyes — as told by Ellen Wayland-Smith, a descendant of Oneida’s original inhabitants, in her 2016 book, Oneida: From Free Love Utopia to the Well-Set Table, about the colony — is one of a man desperate to reconcile his competing corporeal and celestial desires.

Have you made a New Year's Resolution? Have you decided to enter the Porn Industry? Before you make that leap, did you do your homework?

“I don’t even know how other girls do it,” Eva Lovia said. By any standard, Lovia’s career in the porn industry is a success. Both the Adult Video News (AVN) Awards and XBIZ Awards showered her with nominations for 2018, notably Female Performer of the Year. She commands a rate “significantly higher than the majority of the industry.”

Yet the 28-year-old lives in Wilmington, North Carolina, and no longer travels to L.A. for two weeks each month when she’d “shoot every single day, sometimes twice a day.” She has decided it makes more sense to “do everything on my own.”

To the Left money is either grown on trees. Or farted out by unicorns. How not to save a shopping mall.

It comes as no surprise that when it comes to advice on running a business, The New York Times is the last place one should turn to. The NYT ran a story about an economically failing mall in upstate New York that is turning itself around with a lot of feel-good strategies that won't help the bottom line:

When the Payless ShoeSource at the St. Lawrence Center closed this spring ... Erica Leonard, the mall's manager ... turned over vacant storefronts to local merchants who sell bourbon maple syrup and wood sculptures carved with chain saws.

The Top 50 Conservative web sites.

I threw up in my mouth a little bit when I saw #27. Well they are part of the Salon25.
I suspect that the "men" on Salon's Hot 25 of conservatives dig this chick.

On Friday, HuffPost editor Emily McCombs issued a tweet containing her New Year’s resolutions. One of those resolutions simply read: “Band together to kill all men.”

“New Year’s resolutions: 1. Cultivate female friendships 2. Band together to kill all men,” she tweeted.

How sad to have that much hate in one's heart.

President Donald J. Trump, love him, hate him, indifferent to him. He shows more class than the JEF ever did when it comes to our men and women in uniform.

President Donald Trump and his family have been down at the “Winter White House” — his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida — for a relaxing break over the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Trump has made it a point most days this week to express his gratitude toward the men and women who serve this nation, providing a full Christmas feast for those who protect him, meeting with the local police department as well as paying a visit to a local fire rescue station to thank firefighters and paramedics for the “fantastic job” they do.

NHS, The UK's wonderful health care system counting on drunks to help them out.

The UK’s taxpayer-funded National Health Service is considering setting up more mobile stations in cities to take care of seriously drunk people—an effort to ease the pressure on its jam-packed hospital ER departments.

The cash-strapped NHS will monitor the success of its mobile drunk tanks over the New Year weekend as part of a national study to be released early in 2018, before deciding whether or not to expand them.

“NHS doesn’t stand for National Hangover Service,” NHS CEO Simon Stevens said. He had stern words for binge drinkers: “It is frankly selfish when ambulance paramedics and A&E nurses have to be diverted to looking after revellers who have overindulged and who just need somewhere to safely sleep it off.”

His wife, Olivia, was treated for cuts and bruises she had suffered in the struggle with the intruder. The next step in online dating, DNA based matches.

Online dating is largely a succession of misery and humiliation, which is why so many of us are willing to pay an algorithm to find us the perfect match. The newest entré to the arena of apps that promise to help you find love: Pheramor, a Houston-based startup that claims to use DNA as the basis for its matchmaking algorithm. Conflict resolution = good. Conflict resolution by calling the Cops to settle a criminal activity = Genius Award Winner.

DECEMBER 27--A man and a woman are facing prostitution charges after they sought law enforcement’s assistance in settling a dispute over a $150 payment for a sexual encounter, according to South Carolina police.

As detailed in an incident report, a state trooper was flagged down at 1 AM Thursday by Kimberly Moore, 30, and Robert Sartor Jr., 65. Moore, who was standing with Sartor outside a Marathon gas station, told the trooper that Sartor “owed her money for prostitution.”

Moore later told Union County Sheriff’s Office deputies that she had earlier contacted Sartor and “asked him to come get her and get a hotel room.” Moore said that Sartor offered her $150, and that she “knew what the money was for.

22 Dalrymple's quotation is nonsense on stilts. Who describes law enforcement efforts against theft, rape, and murder as a "war"? No one, that's who. The "war on drugs" is characterized as a "war" in an effort to persuade the public to accept measures it would not otherwise accept with respect to law enforcement in general (e.g., widespread civil asset forfeiture; the transformation of law enforcement into paramilitary forces applying military tactics against the citizenry as if it was an occupied population; imposition of restrictions on the availability of medicine). There are an awful lot of "conservatives" who stand ready to decry the fascism of the local DMV but think nothing of enabling the state to wage a "war" on its own citizens.

93 Thanks for the ONT. I have a tendency to veer back and forth on drugs. On the one hand, I tend towards greater personal freedom- especially when what you are doing does no harm to others. By making these things illegal, we are also enriching exactly the wrong kinds of people. On the other hand, Education seems to do precisely nothing when it comes to stemming the use of drugs. Certainly, if meth and other drugs were legal and widely available, would that stop people from stealing things in order to get money to buy more? So what's the answer? I don't know. There are historical precedents on both sides and the only thing that seems to work is a culture of restraint and self denial? Can you create that culture without laws? I also do not know that, either.

133 Finally saw Wonder Woman. It was okay, reasonably entertaining. But it took its self way more seriously than it had any right to or anything to offer in its self. Gal Gadot is pretty but not the stunning goddess people keep acting like. I thought Chris Pine did the best job of his entire career, much better than as Kirk. He's kind of odd looking though, like one of those marionettes used in Team America: World Police. Almost like his face is a reconstruction after a terrible accident. The team of multicultural caricatures was odd and seemed pointless, tacked on. Like they had a war movie with these guys and said "I know, lets put Wonder Woman in it too!" Huge plot holes in it, like "they sailed that little open boat from Turkey to England in a couple days??" and "how can someone suck gas into their lungs and power up before a super fast strong warrior can stab them with a sword even once?" Not to mention "why did the Germans just give up once a few squads had been defeated in a single Belgian town?" It was okay. Not as good as people built up, but less bad than, say Suicide Squad.

A few changes so they could work in set pieces and action sequences, but reasonably close. Reacher was dumbed down so that Action Girl could get more to do. The girl that played his supposed (not real) daughter was adorable, though. Like to see what else she does. The last scene with them together was annoying though. Tom Cruise emotes by gritting his teeth and flexing his jaw muscles. She emotes by making tiny little smiles that go away and come back over and over. They spent like 5 minutes doing that at each other and it was like watching palsy victims.

178 are the Jack Reacher books good? They are not particularly well written but they are entertaining enough. The earlier ones are better. I recommend reading a couple, they are fun enough. Pretty fast read. Reacher is an unstoppable man who knows all and beats everyone, so you kinda go into it understanding its that kind of story, but it still develops in interesting ways. Every book has the same basic arc: Reacher shows up in town hitchhiking or riding a bus, he's basically homeless. There's trouble there, which he becomes entangled with. A very smart, capable woman is also there who is also really hot and he ends up in bed with. There's a really baffling mystery going on, behind the bad guys, and some really mean bad guys Reacher has to face. He wins.

193 93 So what's the answer? I don't know. There are historical precedents on both sides and the only thing that seems to work is a culture of restraint and self denial? Can you create that culture without laws? I also do not know that, either. Posted by: Aetius451AD at December 30, 2017 10:31 PM (ycWCI) Good comment. There weren't any drug laws in America to speak of before the 20th century. Before that, alcohol flowed freely, and there was some opium addiction. Most of the modern synthetic drugs hadn't been invented yet. Certainly, alcoholics and opium addicts ruined their lives and drove their families into poverty. Then progressive reformers passed laws to regulate that kind of behavior. Today, alcoholics and drug addicts still ruin their lives. But now government welfare programs come to their rescue! Now addicts qualify for "disability". It's true that libertarians want to eliminate most drug laws. But a real libertarian believes there should be no government welfare at all. They want to ruin their lives, that's their problem. If the government truly respected private property rights, then I should be able to shoot a drug-addled loser who tries to rob me without fear of prosecution. The police would show up, cart away the corpse, shake my hand and say "good job", and that would be the end of it. And while we're on the topic of libertarians, the same holds true with immigration. America pretty much had open borders until the late 19th century. Anyone who could make his way here was free to do so. And there was no welfare of any kind. It was sink or swim. I've read that some immigrants found that they couldn't hack it here and went back to the old country. Eliminating government welfare would cause a lot of problems to solve themselves.

Hint, if the cops are after you and they threaten to send in the dog. Give up. When they send in the dog, there is always blood. Those dogs love their work. 301 GOP Congressmen wailing, pro and con, about a Trump purge of the FBI and/or DOJ.

http://tinyurl.com/yb9oncny

This is beyond stupid. There are over 35,000 at the FBI and over 110,000 at the DOJ. What needs flushing is likely less than 100 at both the FBI and DOJ combined. All high up Obama holdovers who in a normal transition would have been let go and replaced in the first month.

This wailing is of a piece with the NYT delusional piece that a conversation in May of 2016 in a London pub, by the short-term volunteer Trump campaign aide, George Papadopoulos, with an Australian politician was the basis for the Russian investigation and the FISA warrant.

Both are being tossed out in public to deflect from what is becoming clear, that the Obama administration used a fake dossier as the means to get a FISA warrant which then allowed them to get access to NSA electronic communications records going back months, years even, on all communications of anyone even remotely connected to the Trump campaign and later to the Transition team.

There will be a "purge" but it will be those involved in this illegal warrant.

One must assume you've never been married for longer than a year.

For a view of some antiquity, which I translate liberally, and, as it were, very loosely,
Cephalus: "Sophocles, tell us, now that you're beyond your 70th year, how do you conduct your erotic life, having had a prodigious history, a history exceeding that of most every Athenian, in carnal matters?"
Soph: "I cannot tell you how delighted I am to be free, finally, of Aphrodite's poisonous, enslaving arrows.  I am a free man, finally."

We do not hate each other.  In fact we like each other fairly well.  Hubby just gained so much weight since we married (almost 300# at his highest) that it became physically impossible.  If it ever becomes possible again that would be nice, but I am not throwing away 40 years because I want sex.  Our family and our shared memories that no one else could ever know is worth way too much to sacrifice for 15 minutes of enjoyment occasionally.

461 Funny how the top haute couture models all have the body shape of twinks............ I read an article, a serious article about that by an anthropologist type, pointing out that, yes, the models chosen deviate strongly from what heterosexual men rate as attractive. There are several non-gay arguments they try to make. One is that well, they want tall women, and tall women tend masculine looking (ie the effects of estrogen vs testosterone on bone structure and body shape). He debunked that. The conclusion was, yep, they look like teenaged boys because that what is being chosen. That's what the one's who pick 'em dig. Now, porn is just the opposite. The babes there, it's what normal men dig. No skewing there. The market is deciding, and the market's preferences are right in line with Darwin.

The anal thing is part of the mainstreaming of porn. What was forbidden, like anal, is considered normal....by guys. Girls, who have to do the prepping and the icing afterwards are mostly not big fans. Though I did know two women who climaxed a lot during anal.

482 >>you are going to vote for what you actually like, There was another thing interesting I remember from that. Women with more masculine faces -- and this again has do with bone structure of the face. Masculine, meaning more testosterone shaping facial bone structure is "sharper" and more "angular". It makes for a more "striking" face. So top models usually all have these striking faces. But guess what, in porn, this striking look is not chosen. The faces there are on average, high estrogen, smooth and rounded, more feminine. So dudes in their primal preferences don't dig striking. They dig feminine. Even though they might like a striking face for itself. But when it comes to where they want to plant their genes, they go for the feminine.

495 489 So dudes in their primal preferences don't dig striking. They dig feminine. Even though they might like a striking face for itself. But when it comes to where they want to plant their genes, they go for the feminine. Now, to present them models as hotties for mainstream consumption -- think Victoria's Secret -- that has to be remedied. And they do that with little optical illusion tricks. He showed how I think it was Giselle Bundchen and that Ambrosio-whatever girl have more boy waists, but they do tricks to make it appear more curvy, more feminine 70%. The tricks involve camera angles, clothes, and posing.

528 There is another thing about waist-hip ratio. And female hip/pelvis structure. Human females walk a fine line, a very fine line between wide enough for childbirth, and stability. It's apparently something of an evolutionary coffin corner with walking upright. Not very pleasant, but this "rule" is enforced by Mother Nature's harsh competition. If a women's pelvis isn't wide enough, she and/or her offspring would die in childbirth. Now, Caesarean sections are providing a way around that, and that is already affecting hip/pelvic structure. So, keeping this up, we'll have a lot more women who would be unable to do a normal childbirth.

568 Howdy All! And a Happy New Year ya bunch of Morons and Mornettes! Let's talk about carrier landings. The deck of most carriers are about 150 meters long. Say 500 feet. The carrier is steaming into the wind (more lift) at anywhere between 25 and 35 knots. Add into that the the ship is moving in three dimensions, pitch (the stern and bow go up and down) roll (the ship moves side to side left and right, think moving your shoulders from one side to the other)  and yaw (the ships bow and stern moves left and right). The aircraft is coming into the glide path at 100+ knots per hour else it will stall and fall into the ocean short of the flight deck. Keep in mind that the aircraft is also moving in three dimensions unrelated to the motion of the carrier. In effect, landing a very high speed aircraft on a moving carrier deck is a controlled crash. As a pilot, you're hoping the arresting hook on your aircraft will grab the arresting cable on the flight deck and bring your plane to a safe, and sudden stop. Carrier pilots are elite. And batshit crazy for even attempting it.
Thus endeth the lesson.

Mrs Old Blue got me Dunkirk for a Christmas present. I was somewhat disappointed with the movie. I understood what he did, but Nolan made it hard to follow. Dunkirk was an incredible undertaking, and worthy of an epic story. Christopher Nolan didn't do it justice.
I'm hoping that Darkest Hour, with Gary Oldman does a better job.

Partly because of my size although I have been exercising and lost 25 pounds in the past year, partly because he had hernia surgery some years ago and is worried about injuring himself again, and partly because he got into some, er, habits online that he can't seem to break. I stay because, well, I'm a good Catholic girl and I don't see any point in throwing away almost 25 years of life together, with a now young adult child who still needs us (she's autistic) just for the sake of getting my rocks off. Yes, I would love for us to have a normal sex life again but I lived without it for the first 30 years of my life and I can live without it again if need be.
