Saturday Afternoon Awesome From The UK
— DrewM

The UK Independence Party seems to be the conservative/libertarian option in the UK. They are in favor of tight border control, free markets and are adamantly opposed to the UK's European entanglements*.

They don't have any members in the UK Parliament but have a couple of seats in the European Parliament which they use to more or less harangue the Euro bureaucrats. Like this....

via TV's Andy Levy

*I haven't run extensive checks on everything about the UKIP so I don't want to hear from the net nanny saying I've embraced evil or something. They seem alright and they certainly aren't the cretins from the BNP.

13 6 A thing of beauty.  Belgium sucks.

It may suck as a political force, but as a place to visit, it's quite nice.  Great food, great beer, nice people (most of whom really do speak English, making tourism for an American much easier), and nicely accessible from London via the fast train.

I spent a short time there for work and found the lifestyle much closer to our own than, say, Germany (which sucks balls) or France (which is laughably inefficient, even if the food is great).  Almost took a job there.

14 Christopher Monckton (Viscount Monckton of Brenchly the 3rd, if you want to be formal) very recently joined with the UKIP. He one of the people who've caused endless problems for the global warming/climate change crowd. Some time back, he challenged Al Gore to a debate on climate change; Gore, of course, pussied out...

15 Don't worry...Charles Johnson, arbiter of all things bigotted and racist, will surely let us know that somehow, Nigel Farage is associated with Nazis or anti-Muslum goon squads. It will be guilt by association 6 times removed, but because Farage's vitriol is aimed at euro-socialists, Johnson will feel completely justified.

A fair number of economists think the EU/Euro will collapse into chaos, or at least everyone will have their own currency again.  The problems in Greece could well be the trigger.  And if you expect both the Euro and the dollar to collapse, gold isn't a bad place to be.

93 Belgium may be an inconsequential country, but man, they sure do produce some of THE BEST ales you'll ever taste.

In a country with perennial double-digit unemployment rates, those trappist monks know a thing or two about ales.

Now, where's my glass of Maredsous Tripel?

97 I have said this over and over again. The EU cannot possibly survive as the most Liberal of the countries saw this as a vehicle of keeping their out of control spending alive. And so it was to be. Who were the first countries on board? France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Portugal, Netherlands, Ireland, Belgium. Note that Great Briton and Switzerland did not, and have not joined the EU.  The Progressives saw this as a unlimited piggybank funded by the Germans.

98 After this Nigel Farage when on to the Alex Jones show. Even if Farage and Jones agree on somethings Jones has very very ugly baggage that can toss Farage to the sideline of the lost. Of all the US shows to do why Infowars?   http://bit.ly/dfONXu  here it is I did not watch but here it is.

Ol Nigel would certainly have livened things up at the healthcare summit.

Obama needed someone to really chew on his lazy, not too smart, arrogant ass, and Nigel looks like the guy to do it.

But Belgium a non country?  Well maybe.  They make some pretty good beer though. And of course the Engllish have been moving through Belgium pretty much like grease through a goose ever since  the Duke of Wellington handled things at Waterloo.

101 What is wrong with the BNP?  Active and vigorous opposition to Islamification?  The Tories, Labor and LDP certainly aren't doing that.

Posted by: Federale at February 27, 2010 12:25 PM (hTgaS)

102 The BNP are socialists at core. They peel votes away from Labour, not the Tories. They're hardline union guys and like that. In addition to being creepy bigots.

104 No, no...just because everyone gets accused of being racists at the drop of a hat these days doesn't mean there aren't genuinely ugly creeps out there with whom I won't associate myself. As a perfectly legal party with two elected representatives, the BNP has been treated grossly unfairly by the media here. But they're still creeps.

107 My experience with Brits is that, beneath their polite exterior, they're all raging racists. But they may have mellowed over time, as America has. I haven't been around them for a while now. You're living over there, aren't you?

Posted by: Muskwa at February 27, 2010 12:59 PM (2sKy5)

108 Yep, Muskwa. I've been coming over since the mid-90s and I've lived here for a year and a bit. "Mellowed" isn't the word. More like "beaten with the PC stick until most of them don't even acknowledge there's such a thing as 'British' because that would be racist."

Unfortunately, that sort of social engineering isn't exactly conducive to honest discourse that brings people to a change of heart. Especially when it's combined with racial preferences. Still, I'm surprised that a once-proud people can be so thoroughly cowed as they have become.

The Brits joined the EU in 1970, the same year as Ireland.  That's why Farage is speaking as a "MEP" = Member of the European Parliament

Only Switzerland and Norway stayed out

112 UKIP is great.  They are most certainly NOT the racist thugs of the BNP: the BNP is living proof that fascism is a breed of socialism.

FYI, after the last election, UKIP also have more seats in the EU Parliament than the Labour Party, second only to the Tories...which suggests that maybe the UK is not entirely too far gone after all.

You sound like a BNPer.  Be careful, lest you get brought up on charges of "inciting racial hatred".

UKIP is great.  They are most certainly NOT the racist thugs of the BNP: the BNP is living proof that fascism is a breed of socialism.

Thugs?  Excuse me, I think you might have the BNP confused with the "Anti-Fascists" who run around in ski masks using physical violence to prevent BNP members from peacefully assembling.  You know, the people who rioted and broke into the BBC when they let Nick Griffin appear on Question Time?  Were you one of them?

Racist!

Right: let's avoid the cretins of the BNP so that we can stick with Liebour, including the half-dozen members of its cabinet with Marxist ties, including Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling and the Brothers Miliband.

Fact is, BNP is the only party in Britain that takes the threat of Islamification seriously, and is willing to do what it takes to end it, including repatriation of Muslims to their homelands. I don't agree with them on, oh, anything else, but if I were British I would vote for them without compunction, because they're right on the only issue that matters now.
