Sat. morning non-chess zero content thread [OregonMuse]]
— Open Blogger

OK, so I didn't have time to put together a chess thread for tonight, so there's not going to be one. I know that this will come as a huge disappointment to thousands of you, but there you are.

So, this is an open thread. Zero content.

And since this is a non-chess open thread, talking about chess is strictly forbidden. 'Chest' jokes are OK, though. God knows we don't get enough of those on the chess threads.

Also, longbows.

Beneath the fold you will see how many times Michael Moore has seen his feet since 1993.

This may be why anyone can't get certain sites. I assume that that's why Daily Caller is also down.

Greetin's and salutin'-at-ya's, y'all.

Had a great gig last night. Good music made with good friends,  and   copious amounts of Guinness. I feel much better today than I have since we became slaves on Thursday. Today is more music and friends: my drummer buddy (who passed away last summer)'s widow  compiled a "greatest hits" CD and the release party  is this  afternoon over on the coast, right on the water.

All is right with the universe again, or as right as it can get. Still can't get motivated to write anything for my blog tho'.  I will probably retire  it. Ain't much reason to beat my head against the wall any more.

43 4 Well, John Yoo and Mark Levin don't like the Robert's decision... so it looks like my earlier optimism was unfounded. Drat. Posted by: Underground Vulgarian at June 30, 2012 11:27 AM (SI8HJ) After all this time you still have optimism? I guess you haven't been paying attention. Let's run down what has happened in the last 6 years. Well Democrats won both houses of Congress, and then exploded the deficit from 250 billion to now what are we at 1.5 trillion dollars a year. Obama won the Presidency in 2008 and appointed to far left wing hacks to the SC, who along with Justice Roberts will now be ass fucking us for the next 2 decades. Hmm what else, oh we just got saddled with an unconstitutional healthcare mandate/tax that makes it possible for the government now to mandate...sorry "tax" us if we do not do certain behaviors. Don't work out 5 times a week? Tax. Don't buy a fucking Prius? Tax.. Let me see what else, oh Dodd Frank is fucking up the financial sector. Obama and his band of fucking Democrat faggots are blowing up a large balloon in student debt that will explode one day and you know who wil end up paying it? The American taxpayer right in the ass. Hmm what else...Oh the national debt is about 16 trillion now and going up at 1.5 trillion a year, and this is with record low interest payments. If interest goes up .5 percent our debt financing payment will probably be bigger than our entire defense budget. Which brings us to another thing, Obama is gutting the military like its a fucking shot deer. Oh yeah and to "stop" this we elected to the house and senate supposed tea party candidates in 2010 in an election routing not seen since the 1930s. But they havent stopped Obama's spending, they havent stopped shit. In fact when they have "stopped" him, he says fuck you to the law and does what he wants anyway. To the cheers of what we call the MFM but in reality what we have is nothing but propaganda. Really it's not even news that you see on the main networks and print news, it is straight propaganda. They use propaganda techniques like bandwagoning to make it look like every loves Obama when meanwhile they would be calling an R president with 40% approval ratings unpopular at every opportunity. They use cardstacking, to highlight anything "good" Obama does, and bury any bad things about to while highlighting anything negative about everything Republican. Really think about it, this fucker was in charge of a justice department that allowed guns to be shipped to a foreign country and has the first AG in history to be held in contempt of Congress. What do you see on the news? Crickets about it. fucking crickets. David Axelrod steers goverment money to his PR firms...more crickets. Solyndra gets a fastrack loan so Obama can use it in commercials as a success and then it goes bankrupt less than a year later...more crickets in our news. If any of those stories had happended when the President had an R in front of their name they would have gotten the attention they deserve and his approval numbers would be sitting at 32%. But no thats not happening nothing negative about this cocksucking asshole in office will be aired. Hell NBC edits fucking tapes to advance left wing bullshit. They edit....their own tapes. Pravda type shit, and what can we do about it? Not a fucking thing. We are fucked. Optimism is for suckers. Oh and for a cherry on top of that shit sandwhich John Roberts has revealed himself to be another Souter. Thanks George Bush!

46 There are men out there who have been sued, or threatened to be sued if they claim to have had sex with Tom Cruise. I think it's the fact that he has been so protective of his image as a heterosexual that has led people to believe he's got a reason. That, and the fact that his ex's all seem to fit the classic "beard" type, up and comers who drop him when they arrive (or don't arrive, as the case may be).

50 So, what's the basis for the "Tom Cruise is ghey" stuff? Well, first thing that springs to my mind was the whole jumping up and down on Oprah's couch thing. Talk about overcompensation. Straight guys don't generally make that much of a fuss over having a girlfriend. Second, the Scientology thing. That's about as ghey as it gets. Just saying. Third, the guys been married three times. Mimi Rodgers - no kids. In fact Mimi said flat out they got divorced because Tom refused to knock boots with her. Nicole Kidman, and they had to adopt. Then Katie Holmes and the only way he could knock her up is with a turkey baster? Ok, seriously ghey. But here is the clincher - the smoking gun that is simply undeniable. I saw it on Family Guy. So, ghey. Case Closed. Lol

Posted by: BurtTC at June 30, 2012 06:59 AM (2pG7H)

56 I don't thin cruise is teh ghey.

I think he's teh weird.

Sexually or psychologically. Maybe he's asexual (they do exist) but because of his career, he can't be seen as gay or allow conditions to appear as if he is. Thus the "marriage" to Katie.

This is her big payout. She can NOW go on with the rest of her career with a BIG pile of cash to allow her to do anything at all she wants to do.

She should get an honorable mention at the next Academy Awards for best Actress in a long term part. Plus Child birth! (well maybe, maybe not)

Simple part and depending on the personal demands (probably few) and the interruption in her career, I'll bet she came out better than she would if she'd refused and gone with regular parts.

Hey. I'd do it in a minute if offered the opportunity. (except the child birth part.) (if she did)

75 @62 Yeah, I don't know about that. The best dog is any dog with a committed owner. I know lots of folks who think they're doing the right thing bringing in a pound dog, only to find out the thing is half hound and bays at the moon or part terrier and digs up the yard, etc etc. If you are willing and able to adapt your life to accommodate what the genetic stewpot gives you, great. If not, and many are not, the dog winds up ignored in the back yard. Pure breed dogs are a reflection of man's ability to shape Nature to his purposes. Plenty of value in that, imho.

78 Not secession. Been there, done that, buried the bodies.

1. all legal means to change the culture
This one's important as conservatives have pretty much been laissez faire about taking over.
2. elect actual conservatives.
This is tough as they lie and appearances can't be trusted. Plus what's conservative in one place, isn't in another.
3. educate your children.
Home school. Get your children out of the government run schools.
4. educate your friends.
don't keep them if they aren't conservative.
5. Move to areas that are conservative.
make being conservative rewarded.
6. refuse to be persuaded by any liberal about anything.
trust no one's claim to be conservative. form your own set of guidelines and go with you gut sometimes.

Or we can just all move to montana and wait em out. They'll kill themselves off eventually and we can move back south.

juicier. yeah juicier's the word i'm looking for.

85 Tom Cruise is a functioning nut. He can do a job and drive a car and shop for pants, but beneath that facade of normalcy he is stone cold insane.

There is a general observation that the worst moments in a Tom Cruise movie are those when he is supposed to be displaying some passion for the female lead. One of the reasons 'Eyes Wide Shut' was a turkey is that Cruise came across as such a cold fish throughout.

87 actually, no, willow

no criminal penalties (yet) for failure to file papers saying you have a legal and compliant health care provider. (notice the wording)

they will however take any refund and apply it to the penalty(tax) before they cut your check.

Just like if you were a dead beat dad.

89 I'd like to apologize to everyone in advance for being very poor and thus being a drag on everyone else for mandatory health insurance coverage. Its not my idea, I can't opt out, and I have no choice.

90 that might not have made a lick of sense, and i don't really give a damn. Lol.. that's ok Willow. We love you. And it made more sense than the convuluted mess that is Obama care. But hey, at the risk of revisiting last nights ONT, I'll try for the condensed version. According to Chief Justice Roberts laughable decision, Obamacare is Constitutional because it's a tax. But even so anyone with half a brain can see through this ruse easily. First, if it was a tax then the court had no jurisdiction to rule on it and none of the people bringing the case before the court would have standing to do so thanks to the Anti Injunction Act. You can't oppose a tax until it's actually opposed on someone. Since the "tax" doesn't go into effect until 2015, by law the Court would have had to set it aside until then. It gets worse, of course. The 16th Amendment gives Congress the power to levy a tax "on income". Obviously this is not a tax on income. It also cannot pass muster as either a direct or excise tax either. As an excise tax it would have to be the same for every state. It isn't, it varies by location. As a direct tax it would have to be appropriated to the states evenly. It isn't. So even if you accept Robert's completely ridiculous assertion that this is a tax, Congress doesn't have the power to levy it. It's still unconstitutional.

91 You gotta give Tom Cruise credit for picking super hot wives. Sure, he's queer as a 3 dollar bill with Bill Clinton's face on it, but he has good taste in women.

93 Rumors of his gheyness have been circulating since his "maverick" days.... Remember... The two Corey's? They were molested as kids in Hollywood .... I'm sure a good looking kid like cruise was touched in his early Hollywood days... Plus he's buddies with travolta...and what better beard than his religion? Is cruise ghey? The answer is on page 486 of dyanetics.....

Please. You think Cruise is selecting them? They're all Scientology proteges.

Mimi Rogers got involved through her drug problems. Scientology runs their own version of a rehab program that is a recruiting system. Nicole Kidman was born to Scientologist parents. And so on.

From what I heard, the first wife decision came down to a coin toss between Mimi Rodgers and Kirstie Alley. They were roommates and notorious party monsters in the early 80s.

I'm sure the Cruise handlers in the church have a short list of names already under discussion for the next Cruise arm candy unit. They'll probably bump up the age a bit this time, which is kind of funny since Mimi was a bit on the old side back then but would be perfect now if she were still that age. There is no longer much of a fecundity requirement as Cruise moves into roles where his character has adult children. He'll probably be cast as a grandparent before 2020.

You can't oppose a tax until it's actually opposed on someone. Since the "tax" doesn't go into effect until 2015, by law the Court would have had to set it aside until then Fail. The Tax Anti Injunction Act stipulates that a tax rule is immune to estoppel via injunctive relief prior to effective implementation. Standing is not vacated in that Act, nor is any question of tax law required to be set aside. The ruling didn't stop the tax in advance of implementation, it clarified what it was, therefore the ruling is valid.

99 In somewhat related to Tom Cruise Katie Holmes breakup news ...

Scientology is evil. Village Voice has been relentless in exposing this cult's hideous abuses. Sounds like the whole evil charade maybe imploding and exploding. Major defections this week. If this whole scam goes belly up I wonder if movies will get better? Just a thought. It does seem they are running Hollywood these days. Apparently one speculation regarding Katie Holmes filing for divorce in NY is to escape the influence of Scientology court/judge.  However knowing Hollywood idiots they will quickly find something to stupid to replace it.

106 Tom Cruise has always had to ACT masculine.

So long as it's in a metromale URBAN setting policing others, he manages as well as a TSA agent secures our national security.

But when he was supposed to play a Samurai, in the heat of battle his limp performance barely hanging on to his saddle was an absolute let down. The plot relied ENTIRELY on the other screen actors.

108 While DOOM may be nigh, there is still something great and wonderful about America that is worth fighting for. If not for us, then for our children, grandchildren, and future generations. If things completely fail here, then we must preserve the remains in the hope that when the tyranny we face collapses (and it will with no one else left to plunder), and we face a second Dark Ages, then a new American Beauty Rose may grow in its ashes. It may not, and probably will not, happen in our lifetimes, but it IS worth fighting for.

116 Ok, this may be obvious to everyone but I was going around on the tax/penalty nomeclature and whether all monies going to government are a 'tax'.  Then a blinding flash of the obvious hit me:

A tax is levied on something legal (buying a car).

A penalty is levied on something illegal (speeding).

Therefore, how do you frame the question?  What is the (in)action?

It's illegal to not get a building permit, therefore penalty.  If it's illegal to not get a health insurance policy, therefore penalty (and ACA falls).

Or, if it's legal to be inactive and not buy a health insurance policy, this is a tax (and the mandate stands).

Holy crap, this makes the most sense if I was an alien that just learned English and was talking to earthling Roberts for the first time.  For it to be a penalty, the court would have to agree that it is illegal to not get health insurance.

I'm going in circles so much I could be a SC justice.  :-(  (PS, the ruling sucked.)

117 SWATting, it doesn't discriminate...

Online threat — but SWAT team raids wrong house
18-year-old was watching Food Network with front door open, when storm door came down, stun grenade went off. Whoever made these threats, the Courier & Press said, likely remotely routed them through the Milan's open Wi-Fi connection, which means it could have been used from an outside location. It's possible the Milans, or specifically Stephanie, were targets of "swatting," a particularly nasty prank by which the perpetrator — often through hoax 911 calls — tricks a SWAT team into raiding a house of his choosing.

She has tried to pretend otherwise but it was pretty well known when she was an ingenue and long before the 'Days of Thunder' pairing with Cruise. There is a reason she was on the list of candidates.

Scientology has a surprisingly strong base in Australia. I've had more than one friend come back from there and report their surprise at encountering the same kind recruiters we were used to meeting if we were walking down Hollywood Blvd. to go to a movie or the big news stand at the corner of Cahuenga.
