Russian Climate Scientists: Are You Ready For Global Cooling?
— Ace

On one hand, it could be quite cold and dreary, and food would be more expensive.

On the other hand, some of us will be warmed by gloating, and we'll all get into tremendous shape doing victory dances once a day.

Solar activity follows different cycles, including an 11-year cycle, a 90-year cycle and a 200-year cycle. Yuri Nagovitsyn comments.

“Evidently, solar activity is on the decrease. The 11-year cycle doesn’t bring about considerable climate change – only 1-2%. The impact of the 200-year cycle is greater – up to 50%. In this respect, we could be in for a cooling period that lasts 200-250 years. The period of low solar activity could start in 2030-2040 but it won’t be as pervasive as in the late 17th century”.

Best comment ever:

If only there was some natural source for variations in the earth's temperature. The source of such variation would have to be large, though: on an order of magnitude of our own Sun.

140 90 actually I have noticed an uptick in polyester in clothing lately, since the cotton market is screwed they seem to be mixing a lot of polyester into shirts that used to be 100% cotton. Could it be preppers causing the uptick, at least partially? I love cotton but it's the worst fabric for SHTF planning. Wears out quickly, absorbs sweat and needs to be cleaned more often. I'm noticing an uptick in things like jerky and trail mix. And we all know about guns and ammo sales through the roof, but camping/hunting/fishing gear is through the roof. So are survival books (tree identification, foraging for food in the wild, etc.) I think the preppers are becoming a retail force. The MSM will never, ever acknowledge this. The only way to tell is by reading the signs.

216 I'll point this out again, though pardon me if I said it before and its repetitious. If you took all of the coal, all of the gasoline consumed, all of the heating oil used, all of the natural gas burned -- in fact every possible source of heat or energy we could use every year and converted those items to BTU's, then added all the totals, then compared that to the total BTU's that the nearest star shines on this planet? Imagine this; a gymnasium with 8,000 lit candles on the floor. Exactly ONE of them is the effect that all of the man-used BTU's generate every year. Our star is the other 8,000.

218 The solar variability tie-in, be careful in noting, is not heat output -- that's all the warmmongers have focused on, in order to 'debunk' the idea. And they're right -- it does not vary enough to account for the Earth temperature changes. What is also varying is solar activity that powers its magnetic field, and as the field intensity fluctuates, the level of galactic cosmic rays reaching the inner solar system varies [they are charged particles and are deflected by a magnetic field]. The cosmic ray flux into Earth's atmosphere seems to influence water droplet condensation, so it significant;y affects global cloud cover, which is the main factor of global albedo, the amount of solar energy reflected back into space. And THAT drives global temperature variations, so the theory goes -- as I was given to understand it.

Still the best thing ever written on the intertubes:

"It's a shame there isn't some natural phenomenon that could explain changes in the Earth's temperature. Such an object/force would have to be enormous . . . on the order of our own Sun."

So, I was looking for a period cover and found Time "How to Survive the Coming Ice Age".

Funny enough, but check out the middle headline at the top: "Beyond Detente: Why We Can't Beat the Soviets"
