Report: Kagan Also Lobbied AMA To Change Position On Partial-Birth Abortion
— Ace

If the law's on your side, argue the law.

if the facts are on your side, argue the facts.

If neither is on your side -- lobby friendly industry groups to change their reporting of the facts.

Now, according to a report Americans United for Life furnished to LifeNews.com, Kagan’s lobbying for changes to medical associations’ positions while in the White House is further evidenced by an email found in her White House documents.

...

Kagan discussed with other Clinton administration officials whether the AMA could reverse its policy saying there is not an identified situation in which partial-birth abortion is the only appropriate method of abortion. The AMA also noted ethical concerns with partial-birth abortions and said that it should not be used unless it is absolutely necessary.

“We agreed to do a bit of thinking about whether we (in truth, HHS) could contribute to that effort [convincing the AMA to reverse their policy]," Kagan wrote in the email.

Testilying.

4 she hoped that ACOG and the AMA would suppress or modify their views and aggressively worked to make that happen.

If they didn't I would be surprised. The AMA ceased being a professional medical group long ago. They are really nothing more than another Demoncrap PR group.

Hell, most doctors don't even belong to them anymore. It is the same with AARP and the ABA.

8 Next we'll find out she's responsible for the bogus second  hand smoke findings.

Actually the EPA did that long before she came along. I even saw a court ruling where the court threw the entire second hand smoke study b the EPA out saying it was fraudulent because they didn't even follow their own procedures much less real scientific method.

But that still never slowed the EPA down. That was only one court case they continued to push it all over the country getting local groups to push their agenda.

9 I'm not one to get too fired up about the abortion issue, but when reading the case that this was about where the partial-birth abortion (D-X or whatever they called it) procedure is described, it's absolutely horrible and inhuman, and it's really disturbing to think that people in high positions of government would go to these sorts of lengths to defend something that awful.

Posted by: brak at June 30, 2010 10:21 AM (W5NBA)

10 The problem is at some point, advocacy organizations seek to expand their own power and influence more than meet the needs of their member. Unions, AMA, ABA, and soon the NRA place the organization ahead of its goals. Democrats benefit because the best way to enshrine your org. is to have the government wall it off.

Posted by: Jollyroger at June 30, 2010 10:22 AM (nSp31)

11 She didn't lobby-lobby the AMA.

12 She should be considered Obama's Harriet regardless of all this unethical behavior or even if she were otherwise qualified it should make her ineligible; instead NPR reports she is likely a lock on getting confirmed. Thank god I am driving to the middle of nowhere tomorrow. I can't 'not look' at what is going on in DC but it makes me crazy. Making modest donations to conservative candidates seems like bailing out the titanic with a teacup lately.

Part of the reason the Leftists push subhuman practices such as partial-birth abortion is to make regular abortion seem normal. This is obvious to anyone paying attention.

You sort of have to use the tip of a pair of scissors, not an ice pick, because you have to make a hole big enough to insert the vacuurette, the instrument that sucks out the brain tissue.  That's how you get the baby's skull to collapse and pass easily through the cervix.

As Brak said above, it's mind-blowing to think that some high government officials thought that this procedure needed to be defended and preserved in order to protect some policy goal.  What kind of policy goal would that have to be to justify this barbarity?

100 Why stop with partial birth? The leftards should go for the whole ball of slime. Why not post birth abortion? You know, pull the kid out and run it through a meat grinder? It follows their logic pretty well.

No hyperbole.

Meat is murder.  They'll throw the kid in a dirty closet and come back a couple hours later to see if it's dead yet.

Did anybody see Klobuchar's line of questioning about the vampires v. werewolves (Twilight)?

Do people think these SCOTUS hearings are a joke?  Does Minnesota think it essential to send comedians to the Senate to represent them?

I thought this was a good example of our leaders being out of touch with the needs of America.

132 So let me get this straight, she needs 60 votes to get confirmed. So she needs some Republicans.

Th9is is the committee hearing.  The vote will be to forward her from the committee to the floor of the Senate for a full vote. IF no Republican votes yes to send her to the floor she is blocked.

But, Lindsey Graham has already said he will vote yes. Or so reports The State.

Can you imagine the outcry that would have engendered 100 years ago? Can you imagine even 70 years ago?

But what I really think is that most of the stupidity you see on here is nothing more than foot-dragging designed to limit the number of questions the Republicans can ask.

As I have said over and over the votes were determined before this hearing started. This is kabuki theater and a waste of time.

Which is why Lady Lindsey should have been stripped of all of his committee assignments, long, long ago - like long before the Sotomayor fiasco.

Funny how the jerks at the GOP can threaten the position of a Congressman who accurately expresses outrage and sorrow at how the Executive branch is operating outside of any reasonable legal constraints but they have yet to move on real leftist dickweeds like Grahamnesty, who is allowed to continue on with his one-man leftist wrecking crew in the GOP caucus.

137 Um, GOP? Yeah, you might want to stop this corrupt, radical nominee, Kagan, if it isn't too much trouble. If you can't see the danger she poses to law, much less the Constitution, then just start wearing crowns and let's dispense with the whole charade of a nation of laws, not men.

Hello, GOP? Are you there? Are you sentient? At all? Do you believe in anything?

138 140 Apparently, Boehner is distracted by the possibility that Eric Cantor & Paul Ryan are trying to steal his thunder.

“Boehner is running 1994 all over again,” a senior Republican lawmaker said, meaning Boehner wants to rely on a wave of voter anger with Democrats to ride into the majority. “Cantor and [California Rep. Kevin McCarthy] see it totally differently.” McCarthy serves as Cantor’s top lieutenant in the whip organization and is one of the co-authors, along with Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), of Cantor’s new book, “Young Guns.”

139 So, when an insane, stupid, anti-military case - like that crappy recrutier case - we can look forward to the Court deciding 8-1 on it, with everyone saying, "That Kagan is INSANE! Who let that demented troll on the Court?" The GOP can answer, "We were just showing our Indonesian Precedent the respect afforded the office - that the left, and the Indonesian, himself, have never shown to it ... because we're idiots like that."

141 So what's the partisan divide on the court once she's confirmed? Will this affect any challenge to the Obamacrap mandate? I don't care if it's a close vote when the time comes, I just want it declared unconstitutional. In any case, the Dims will lose a lot of seats in November. All we can do now is hope they can't pass anything between now and January. After Obamacare, I don't want them to pass a damn thing. I can't believe the GOP is still willing to confirm Obama's nominees. They should have filibustered everything! Now, I know I'm not the first to think this, but I haven't really seen this possibility discussed at all here (maybe because it's too obvious?). We know that if the GOP gets both houses in November, we will get it by the slimmest of margins, right? It will be our 2006. So, we should know that the same things that have befuddled the Dims will befuddle us. The same things that frustrated the liberals about the Dims will frustrate us about the Republicans. I just hope I don't see any bitching about how the Dims are filibustering the GOP's bills. We have to show that we can still get things done, which will go a long way to show the public we know how to get stuff done.

Response to comment #30.

With all due respect, I have to disagree with comment #30.  As horriable and unimaginiable as they are, third timester aboritions are consitutional under Roe Verses Wade; however.only in those instances where it is "necessary in appropriate medical judgement , for the preservation of the life of the mother".

The way to prevent third term abortions is to change the Roe Vs Wade Law. As it stands third term abortions are legal.  One does feel that many babies are being murdered who could be born without jepordizing the life of the mother.  Far too many third term abortions are performed in this country.  In addtion to first and second term abortions in my opinion.

Caroline in Edina, MN, same state as Harry Blackman who wrote Roe vs Wade.  somewhat ironic.
