Prosecutor: Sure Alton Nolen Was "Infatuated with Beheadings" and Sure, Maybe He Used Some "Arabic Words" While He Was Beheading That Woman, But This Sure Looks to Me Like Plain Ol' Workplace Violence
— Ace

Nothing to see here folks.

An Oklahoma man apparently uttered Arabic words during an attack in which he allegedly severed a co-worker's head, and had "some sort of infatuation with beheadings," but the killing appeared to have more to do with the man's suspension from his job than his recent conversion to Islam, a prosecutor said Tuesday.

The statement is technically defensible -- it is possible the man's termination had "more to do" with the sudden decision to go jihad that his fascination with jihad -- but it sure seems aimed to suggest that jihad had nothing to do with this.

By the way, if you're wondering why I say his firing did have something to do with it: Well, the timing. He did this immediately after (or during) the "process of being terminated." Surely that is not a coincidence.

However, he just as surely had a predisposition to publicly behead women, and it is not really a mystery from whence his predisposition came.

I'll just post one more quote:

"There was some sort of infatuation with beheadings. It seemed to be related to his interest in killing someone that way," Cleveland County Prosecutor Greg Mashburn said. "Other than that, it seemed to be related to his being suspended earlier in the day."

Other than that.

Update: Other than this.

On March 7th, Nolen added an image to his Timeline which shows a partially decapitated man with someone standing over him pulling his head back to show the wound. Above the image there is a quote which reads, "Thus do we find the clear precedent that explains the peculiar penchant of Islamic terrorists to behead their victims: it is merely another precedent bestowed by their Prophet." Just below the image is a citation from the Quran, "I will instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers: smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off of them."

6 >>>From a prosecution point of view it shouldn't matter. Murder is murder. completely not true, as terrorism or racial/religious bias is an aggravating factor he could hit him with. Further, you don't need to prove motive in murder -- you only have to prove intent (the desire to kill, not the reason for having that desire) -- but prosecutors typically establish it anyway so that their narration of the facts of the crime make sense to a jury.

20 The *trigger* was being fired. So everyone would have a different reaction to that trigger. Normal people might react to being fired with anger, possibly punching someone in the face on the way out the door, trashing a computer, yelling about what your boss's mom liked last Friday night, that sort of thing. Normal people don't act out their anger by BEHEADING COWORKERS. That reaction is the sole property of Muslims. So yeah, Islam has "something to do with it".

So, it looks to me like he gets the death penalty for murder, but only life imprison for terrorism. Also heard on the radio yesterday (forget where, I listen to everything).

1. Recent convert to Islam.  Facebook page was all normal young person twaddle and made a sudden shift to all Islam all the time six or nine months ago.  Then it was suddenly all praise to bin Laden and of beheadings.

2. Bad convert to Islam.  One person who remembers him from a mosque said he put his Koran on the floor, which no one who knows how to Muslim would do.

103 Most transparent... f* it. This is creepy, too. WISCONSIN REPORTER 'CREEPED OUT' AT MICHELLE OBAMA SPEECH Assigned to cover Michelle Obama's speech today and was told by a Mary Burke aide and one for the White House that I could not speak to the people in the crowd. To say that I was creeped out is an understatement. This is what reporters do in America: we speak to people. At least that's how I've been doing things -- at all kinds of political events -- since 1979. She also wrote that she's never seen anything like it all her years as a reporter: Never seen anything like it in 35 years as a reporter covering dozens of political events. White House and Burke aides telling reporters we were not allowed to talk to the people on the other side of the rope. But that's what reporters do: we talk to people. In America, that's our job. Did she not get the Marxist Memo? Everything is as this administration says it is.

118 Just a normal workaday beheading. Move along. I think the question should be: When WOULD a murder be called terrorism? Provide examples. When it happens overseas, esp in Iraq and places like that where the terrorists live? When it happens to a public servant? (Non-military, of course. We've established that.) When it happens to a politician? When the perpetrator is a conservative? When the perpetrator is white and male? There's are statutes in a number of states prohibiting "terroristic threats." Would terrorism be incidents where "terroristic threats" were, in fact, converted from threat to reality? Inquiring minds want to know.

Terrorism matters as a motive in prosecuting him.

It doesn't matter in the broader scheme of things.  If he's unconnected to any plot, just inspired by jihadist ideology, there's no action we can take.

The only victory is the symbolic one of getting people to at least acknowledge that it's homespun jihad.

It is less selective and more deadly by far. And considering how may infections escape hospitals via just about any route possible, it isn't going to be contained. What airplane did this guy come into the US on? Did he blow his nose or touch anything on board? And where has he been since he got here? Just wait and watch for the swath of people who already have it and haven't shown symptoms yet. I'm leaving. Gettin' out. This is not something to be trifled with. At. All.

I have a BIL, who was high on pot and cocaine, with a BAC ~ twice legal who drove his car airborne, which rolled over another car killing a grandmother. His lawyer argued that some witness saw him use his turn signal before the crash. Which made the judge reduce the charges to just about nothing. So he spent two months in jail. A little while later he stabbed someone 13 times in the back. Charges got dropped when the victim died of an OD. Anyway, I poked this psycho, to see if his jailhouse conversion to Jesus 'took' -- and I'm still seeing a psycho. Contractor with record allowed near Obama http://wapo.st/1rDYTER via @washingtonpost A security contractor with a gun and three prior convictions for assault and battery was allowed on an elevator with President Obama during a Sept. 16 trip to Atlanta, violating Secret Service protocols, according to three people familiar with the incident. ... The contractor did not comply when Secret Service agents asked him to stop using a phone camera to videotape the president in the elevator, according to the people familiar with the incident. Agents questioned him, and used a database check to learn of his criminal history. When a supervisor from the private security firm approached and learned of the agents' concern, the contractor was fired on the spot and agreed to turn over his gun -- surprising agents, who had not realized he was armed during his encounter with Obama.

The virus is called Chikungunya, an African name meaning "to become contorted." While the illness, first identified in Tanzania in 1952, has long bedeviled Africa and Asia, the only recorded cases in the U.S. before July involved patients who contracted the virus abroad.

Enjoyed the shit out of it, all while being safe.
And then it was over.

How about thos Muslim Brotherhood that Obama has met with  - in the White House. IIRC some of them had sketchy background - they were on terror watchlists, or had previously been barred from entering the country under Bush.

I usually go with the gift card to somewhere my parents go all the time or to the local Wal-Mart.  I don't know what they ultimately get, but I know they like it.  This year though I am thinking of giving them Ebola Masks.

There's always the NY Times birthday front page. I know, I know, it's the NYTimes, but it's pretty interesting to see what was on the front page 80 years ago on her actual birthday.

Hmmmm....

"CATALONIA STATE SECEDES,

RESISTING SPANISH TROOPS;

FIERCE BATTLE IN MADRID"

Rest of the sample page is too small to read.

Quarantine.

There. I said it. ...Quarantine.

It's like people are afraid to use that word any more.

Everyone on that flight with the Ebola-infected person, should be Quarantined.

And everyone coming from the areas where Ebola is raging...should be automatically Quarantined.

290 If Alton Nolen is tried for murder, he'll face Oklahoma prosecutors, Oklahoma jury and an Oklahoma judge. He can be convicted on the elements of the offense, with no thorny wrangling over motive or state of mind that a terrorism charge would require. He'll spend the rest of his life in death row solitary confinement, and might eventually be executed. Try him on federal terrorism counts and he'll have a platform for his rantings, DoJ prosecutors motivated to undermine their own case, myriad technical grounds for appeal OTHER than the actual facts of the crime, endless stays, retrials, appeals, and the hope of a commutation from some future president looking to grovel before the Mohammedan world. Pragmatism over principles, you rockheaded hardcore conservatives! Git 'r done!

296 This guy just happens to carry a weapon sharp enough to take off someones head? Not to defend the guy, because I think that there is definitely jihadi influence here, but from what I heard on the news, his workplace was some kind of food processing place, and the knife he used to hack his coworkers head off was actually something they used to chop up vegetables or lettuce or something like that. So, I don't think we can lay the fact that he had the weapon at his door. He was pretty good with field expedient methods, but he wasn't prepared.

299 He was being fired for his Islamist threats.
That make his subsequent actions a direct result of his Islamic beliefs and threats.

If he hadn't been so busy being an Islamist, he would still be working there and his victim would still be with her loved ones.

People get fired from jobs all the damn time. Beheading coworkers is not a standard reaction. In fact, exactly how many times has a NON-Islamist worker beheaded someone in reaction to being fired?

I'm thinking that will be zero.
Zero times.

300 Fancy chocolate or some other fancy or gourmet treat that she likes. If she is a Christian, a beautiful cross that could hang on the wall or sit on the bureau. Or some other decorative thing that might reflect her faith. Perhaps a pretty, framed print of a scene that she likes or might like, whether urban or rural. Perhaps a picture of a place that she has been. A nice picture of the home she grew up in. Do you have access to some old photos from her family that she might like copies of in an album. How about a beautiful, soft blanket or soft shawl in a color she likes? What is her favorite perfume; get her some of that. A beautiful, scenic calendar might be nice.

301 of course there is nothing to see here. why there are too many cool youtube videos to watch of people beating eachother up or dumping buckets of ice water on themselves. who has time to bother with this? bread and circuses has turned into stupid rap videos and flamin hot cheetos (purchased with food stamps, of course). no, i can't even find oklahoma on a map let alone understand all them big words they use on the news like "decapitation" and "jihad." what the hell does that mean anyway? if i can't understand something, i just think it's dumb.

302 Have to delurk long enough to say that I once heard Dennis Prager interview a famous English scholar who had to be 90 years old or so. Asked what was most on his mind as he was in the twilight of his years, the scholar replied "things my mother would say" and events and items from his youth. I'm only 49, but grew up in Jamaica (emigrated legally, thank you very much!) and so have fond memories of radio plays - which I bet your mom may have enjoyed in her youth? Another fun gift for my FIL who grew up in England was his childhood treats and foods ... Maybe you can search out an old fave like Kaboom Cereal on those vintage food site (new fresh food but with old recipes) Happy hunting!
