Place Your Bets
— Ace

1. A low-paid staffer, who will soon go on to a prize posting in the Obama Administration, after the media furor dies down, did it as a big goof, and I was protecting him, because I'm that much of a hero

2. I was Tweeting it to my wife, whom I love so very much; how dare you intrude into the sanctity of a marriage

I like 1.

Lee Stranahan Talks WeinerGate on Cam & Company Show: Just about right now. It's on Sirius/XM Patriot 125, but you can also watch live at that link. Over Now.

Come On, Now It's Too Much: The Weiner wedding officiated by... oh, it's too much.

More: At McCain's, Jeffrey Toobin of course was dismissive of the story. Plus lots of other stuff.

Apart from Dana Bash, CNN Still On Team Weiner: Quote: "in Weiner's defense...the person behind this is andrew breitbart who has made a practice of targeting democrats..." I don't know who said it; just picked it off Twitter.

Ah, I should have guessed. In fact, I did guess, but didn't want to go with a guess. TRScoop confirms it was Jeffrey Toobin.

Oh! How Could I Have Forgotten About Charles Johnson?! Um, that question answers itself, doesn't it?

How could I have forgotten about a nobody who was only relevant back when Britney Spears was still kinda hot?

So I'll cut myself some slack on this oversight perfectly functioning sight.

But if you want to know what Charles Johnson has been up to lately:

Stupid.

That's what he's been up to, stupid.

Yet Another Andrew Breitbart Smear Falls Apart

Fraudster is fraudulent

Charles Johnson

As soon as I heard about the “scandal” involving Rep. Anthony Weiner, and saw it being pushed like crazy by fraudster Andrew Breitbart, I knew it would turn out to be yet another phony story.

And that’s exactly what happened. If you haven’t heard about the latest Breitbart scam, here’s a pretty good summary (but they should check the spelling of their headline): Brietbart to use SEX SMEAR on Rep. Anthony Weiner.

In a nutshell, someone apparently hacked into Weiner’s Twitter and yfrog (a picture-hosting Twitter app) accounts, posted a lewd photo, then sent a screenshot of it to a student in Seattle. Wingnuts, of course, refuse to believe that Weiner didn’t post it himself.

(Update: there was no hacking involved. The photo was never posted to Weiner’s account. Someone may have photoshopped a screenshot of a yfrog page to make it look like it came from Weiner’s page.)

(Update 2: the story changes again - apparently Weiner’s yfrog account really was cracked, and the image was posted there.)

The New York Times has a report, and I have to ask: when will the media stop treating Andrew Breitbart like a legitimate “conservative” source? The article doesn’t even mention the numerous other frauds perpetrated by this right wing attack dog.

That's what I use updates for, too -- to become even more and more wrong and dumb.

When I don't think I'm stupid enough on the first try, I'll drop in a few bonus moron-updates to get even stupider.

Oh, I missed this. He's not finished being stupid in the post so he adds an extra stupid cherry on top with the postscript:

ALSO SEE:
Breitbart’s #TwitterHoax - How It Went Down (updated w/ smoking gun)

And that link? Is to the Daily Kos.

Well, that about wraps him up, huh?

He had ya fooled for a while there, huh? You know, I've never really gotten around to asking LGF'ers what the hell the attraction there was.

I remember I used to be jealous of everyone wanting to be a Lizardroid or whatever. I was like, wow, this guy really commands respect.

Then I'd read his blog and... uh... ooohhhh.... let's just say the pixels successfully stuck to the screen.

Eh, I won't razz you guys. I used to like Star Wars, before The Great Suckening.

7 The low-paid staffer won't be going on to anything in Washington, DC, that's for sure.  Too obvious.  Even the DC press corp would squeal like hogs about that.  Rather, something in the private sector, in NYC.  An upscale PR shop or somesuch.

That's all "if," however.  I don't think it will come to that.  I still doubt that Weiner will get pressed any further on this until/unless further allegations surface.  Something to "move the ball," if I may use a suddenly unfortunate turn of the phrase.  (Hey, I like playing pessimist -- the upside-surprises are so wonderful that way.)

The funny thing is, Weiner could easily confess to this and get away with it, even to the point of salvaging his mayoral run in NYC.  Nothing he did here is illegal, and the city already elected Giuliani in the midst of the whole Judy Nathan affair.  It's not like it's anything new for you assholes.

I am loving seeing him wriggle right now, however.  I'm spinning out fantasies of aggressive questioning from the MSM along the lines of CNN today.  But they're just that -- fantasies.

34 A staffer taking the fall would make this scandal too John Edwardsesque. Besides, we'd still be left demanding the networking metadata / breadcrumbs, which any sysadmin could retrieve in a matter of seconds. Unless the staffer was partying all night long with Weiner himself, or stole away one of Weiner's BlackBerries, and didn't send any subsequent tweets, I don't see how anyone would be convinced by such a plea. Weiner's survival hinges on the "would anyone's wife believe this" standard. Stories blaming Anyone But Weiner™ would have to be air-fucking-tight to succeed, and that seems impossible without independent verification from the feds.

92 None of the above. 1) The story wouldn't end with a staffer taking a bullet for him. There would still be the matter of the IP address of the tweet and unless the staffer was right there using Weiner's computer or phone, it's still too easy to disprove. Remember, Weiner tweeted immediately after that. So a staffer took his phone/computer, sent the dirty tweet, then immediately gave it back? Rrrriiiiigggghhhttt. 2) For the staffer to admit this, he's going to have to expose himself to charges of impersonating a Congressional representative. Who the hell is going to do that? Oh, and he's going to have to admit that he's a perv. And he's going to have to cough up the source of the photo. Oh, you did it? Well where did you get the photo? Oh, it was in Weiner's yFrog archives? Why? 3) Ask John Edwards about trusting a friend or staffer to take the fall for you. 4) It's too late to tag someone else for this. If he'd denied it was him in the photo forcefully right off the bat, then maybe, but now everyone believes it really is him. How about the Newt Gingrich excuse? "I was just working too damn hard for this country and lost my head for a second. But all because I'm just so dedicated to fixing Medicare and securing our borders and getting this country back on track, blah, blah, blah."

Anyone have any thoughts on this - I mean, other than that when given the chance to explain this, the Honorable Weiner basically put his thumbs in his ears and sprayed raspberries at Dana Bash, just like any innocent would do?

Posted by: Serious Cat at May 31, 2011 11:24 PM

This is technically possible. Can't remember where it was posted, but a tweet with too many characters or something can get "cut in half" so that depending on what device you sent it from, the Twitter server reads the first half as "DM" and then gets the rest of the header info as "normal broadcast tweet." He might have actually DMed the thing and been betrayed by his Blackberry.

131 @114: "The commutariat at Pandagon is proposing that the offending image was a doctored "manual re-tweet" by Mr. Wolf ..." I don't know enough about the Twitter APIs, but yeah, spoofed retweets don't seem outta the realm of possibility, But that would require very lax security on Twitter's part, 'cause they should require a legit reference to a previous tweet, plus that wouldn't explain the photo appearing in Weiner's yfrog account. In other words: PANDAGON GROUPTHINK FAIL.

I was gonna say by Friday night, but I think he'll stubbornly refuse to fall on his sword until next weekend has come and gone, if only to prove he wasn't forced out on someone else's terms. 'cause O'Reilly is now beating the "FBI must investigate for national security's sake" drum, I think it's only a matter of time until Limbaugh and Drudge start making a much bigger fuss about this story, crescendoing on Thursday and Friday. CNN, hell maybe even Morning Joe, are gonna gossip endlessly too, 'cause this story is just too amusing to abandon unresolved. Fundamentally, it's gonna become unseemly for other Democrats to continue defending Weiner, as long as he refuses to answer basic questions or green light a formal, independent look see. Assuming he's genuinely guilty of mild pervishness, now and quite possibly in the past, I doubt he'll ever let the feds dig down into his social media memory hole. Besides, who knows, maybe a gossipy Twitter / Facebook engineer will dig through his activity logs and leak an unofficial official confirmation, or maybe one of the young girls involved will come forward with some borderline DMs. Could be just me, but it seems like there's too many holes in the proverbial dike, and Weiner doesn't have enough fingers or friends to hold back the deluge forever. *shrugs*

I'm gonna lay down a marker, and predict that Weiner resigns next Monday. I was gonna say by Friday night, but I think he'll stubbornly refuse to fall on his sword until next weekend has come and gone, if only to prove he wasn't forced out on someone else's terms.

Why will he resign?  Because of his integrity? HAHAAHAHA!  Because he would get kicked out of Congress? HAHAHAHAAHA!  Because his voters won't stand for this?  HAHAAHAHAHA!

The guy's a democrat.  They can commit actual crimes and still get and keep their jobs, and he hasn't exactly committed a crime.  Dems will not kick him out of office.  Barney Frank had a boyfriend running a prostitution ring out of his home.  And if you remember the whole Mark Foley affair there was mention of the Democrat that was busted actually having sex with pages, and the Dems gave that guy a standing ovation at one point during the aftermath.

I blame Weiner.

The MSM must now ask all Democrats if they think Weiner should be held accountable and what guilt, they themselves have in all of this because they didn't stop him sooner.

200 Seriously though, I am amused by the phenomenon of watching people jump onto a sinking ship.  I still doubt seriously whether Weiner will ever be "brought to justice" for this stuff, but it's pretty clear beyond a reasonable doubt that he's guilty at this point, and the MSM knows it (Dana Bash's interview was tweeted far and wide amongs various journalists, including the guys at Politico, and she's super-well connected and well respected).

So WTF is Charles Johnson doing doubling down on stupid?  What happens if Weiner is forced to apologize or (more likely at this point) "shift" his story to something along the lines of "yeah a staffer punked me"?  How's he going to back-and-fill?

203 Whether the Weiner defense is option #1, #2, or something else, the next question needs to be: What about the alleged private message to the high school girl? If a staffer steps up to take the bullet he should know that the next question is going to be: Did you DM the high school girl, too? Still want to take the bullet? If Weiner claims it was an accident that he meant to send to his wife, then: What about the message to the high school girl? Is that appropriate for a Congressman to do?

208 Does chucky johnson still own a functioning brain?  During his transformation, he started intermixing evolution stuff with his normal political stuff.  I figured he must have took a critical thinking/ philosophy course at local community college.  But then he went full retard.  Nothing smart about it.  He went off the Pelosi deep end.

But he really thinks Breitbart 'did' this?  Help me understand chucky.

Even Toobin thinks this?  And he's supposedly "smart" by getting fancy degrees and stuff.  uhhh I think we all, as a society need to re-think what 'smart' is.... and FAST.

I've read Breitbarts book and It was one of the more entertaining political books i've read in years.  Its obvious he's an insightful and intelligent person. His transformation reminds me exactly of my own and probably just about everyone who matures.  From left winger in college and a few years after, to conservative when I learned many life lessons as I grew up.  Highly recommended.

With that said, I don't believe for a second that Breitbart would put his reputation on the line to 'hack' Weiners account.  It doesn't make sense how or why he could do it.  Its a fantasy.  The bizzare fascination with the sherrod case is crazy too.  In his book he says there is much more to come out, but he's being sued by her at the moment.  For all of us that saw the entire thing, sherrods story wasn't all puppies and kittens.  She's and her husband are BAD people.  terrible.  The entire text of her speech should be read.  not just the sound bite the media used to crucify breitbart.  I'm not sure why he folded so fast.  He may have understood the media had him with that soundbite.  he goes deep into the media complex and how it works in his book.  He must have made a decision to fold for now, and come back later.  Unfortunately the media is still using the sherrod thing to beat him over the head with.  If they only knew (actually they do.. they're evil) Sherrods full story.  hell, even the NAACP knew she was a bad person.. they threw her under the bus faster that Obama would.  jeez

213 I used to post on LGF, once upon a long, long ago.  I remember leaving when the site's comments began to be overtaken by the worst sort of racist Islam- and Arab-hating -- and I'm not talking about making fun of Jihadis or expressing sober concerns about the tenets of the religion as practiced by fundamentalists, I mean full-fledged "sand n****r" cracks and worse.   And Charles Johnson always tolerated that stuff.  So I decided I didn't want to have anything to do with it.

For me, it was the fearless, utterly un-PC way he used to mock the Palestinians. He'd have the weekly Car Swarm photo after the Israelis blew up another batch of terrorists, and the reader captions would be hilarious.

What turned me off was Iron Fist. That kind of smarmy, macho, sentimental alcoholism is impossible for me to take. He'd start talking about all the different ways he could kill you, telling the rare liberal troll "You don't wanna meet me in person, man. I can slice you with my big knife in less than a second. You'll be dead, man," and the regulars would swoon over him for being so butch. Purported women would tell him how much they wanted to fuck him, and everyone would say, "Get a room, you two! Haw!" like we were at a frat party all watching our buddy getting humping the stripper.

He had some vomitous trademark phrase he'd sign his posts with, something like "/dark, ominous laughter." LGF turned into this embarrassing Wal-Mart cheese factory, so I stopped going there. But at one time it was really worthwhile.

It wasn't always that way - I remember that two years ago you could see someone's @ messages to other people even if you weren't following both. Then Twitter changed the setup so that you had to be following both. Supposedly this was to reduce the load on their servers and to avoid confusion when people only saw half of a conversation.

Long story short: the contrast between font and background color makes all the difference. Blue text on white background compresses more cleanly via jpg algorithms than blue on medium grey. Bush were accused of the things of which Bill Clinton were accused, think the media and society at large would have worshiped Dubya? Nope. They would have demonized him as a rapist and a scumbag and driven him from office. But when the Clintons and the Kennedys of the world do such things, they are praised. Such has been the double-standard bullshit that is American politics for decades. And it's the fault of the pathetic American public. The MF-ing media and Democrats get away with this bullshit, because the American public is dumbass enough to let them.

301 I could be wrong, but felonies are investigated no matter what.  This is out of Weiners hands..  Just like when a woman gets raped, an investigation is started immediately.

This is not a low grade crime either.  This is potentially a national security concern... not because weiner has plans for the Abrams tank on his computer, but someone could blackmail him and get that sort of thing for his silence.  I'm sure stranger things have happend.  We never did find out the whole story behind clintons china tech giveaway..  Although it may have had something to do with the F1-17 parts from the one shot down over bosnia that we bombed... The chi-coms were storing them in their embassy for later reverse-engineering and it went boom.  I'm sure not many know about that.

Sorry, you can't have that.. but take these secrets instead!  Hilary - get this nice young man to sign for these papers... This. I used to go there in the post-9/11 days for the coverage of the radical jihadists. But now Jonzen has more or less switched sides on that, and Jawas and Pam Gellar have filled the void.  Plus the whole jihad on Christianity in all its aspects, not just creationism-in-schools began around the same time, and that was a big turnoff.  If I wanted to subject myself to that haranguing and hectoring, I'd watch MSNBC.

Posted by: Anony at June 01, 2011 08:57 AM (7ahtU)

323 Charles Johnson is once again being reflexively stupid.  Because one of his great "enemies" is pushing a story, the story must by faith be wrong.  He put all of his eggs in Van Jones' basket once because Glen Beck was calling him a 9/11 Truther (which used to be Charles Johnson's highest stupidity indicator).  Well, Beck was right, Van Jones was a 9/11 Truther, and CJ looked like an ass (yet again).

This is what happens when someone embraces the left.  They must abandon their reason to serve their new faith-based beliefs.  Leftism resembles a religion because it seldom has logic or facts on its side.
