Very busy and now very tired so few words and no pics for you tonight. It's sorta like braille for high-functioning morons.

Obama Losing the Coveted Free-range Hobo Vote

But mostly they just vote in their pants so it's not like you're killing and skinning an actual Romney supporter.

The Third Time as a Farcical Clusterfuck

Greek Neo-Nazis are being given 'police powers' over immigrants and starting to handle crime reports. This will not end well.

Quote of the Day

Based on his immense collection quotes I'm thinking Winston Churchill pretty much had the Middle East figured out a 100 years ago and we're just re-learning everything the hard way.

The Middle East is one of the hardest-hearted areas in the world.  It has always been fought over, and peace has only reigned when a major power has established firm influence and shown that it will maintain its will.  Your friends must be supported with every vigour and if necessary they must be avenged.  Force, or perhaps force and bribery, are the only things that will be respected.  It is very sad, but we had all better recognize it.  At present our friendship is not valued, and our enmity is not feared.

Uighurs In Paradise: the Sequel

Sometimes the best thing that can happen to you is to get sent to Gitmo for seven years.

A Moron with an RPG

Walking around town in a turban and with a fake RPG to 'test police response times' is also good way to expedite your Darwin award application.

Ghosting and Demon Lovers

One of the 50 classic ways to leave your lover is to simply leave without a trace or explanation i.e. 'ghosting'.

Why Are Babies Still Dying of Whooping Cough?

Sometimes making vaccines safer ends up making them less effective too. End result: more dead babies than with the 'unsafe' vaccine.

This is the damnedest thing actually.

Opposition to unlimited immigration is the majority opinion in much of Europe, and yet the "right wing" in Europe is indistinguishable on the issue from the left wing. The only group that is taking the public's side on the issue are the national socialists in various countries.

The only group that is taking the public's side on the issue are the national socialists in various countries. Posted by: 18-1 at September 30, 2012 10:14 PM (AUeaU) Sadly, it was all easily predictable many, many years ago - as is true about so many Eurotrash screw-ups. They love forcing themselves into a corner where stuff like this is the only way out for them. They have so demonized common sense that they have stopped any sensible people from expressing the obvious truths of their situation. They had to jump ugly all over Geert Wilders who offered them a sensible way out and they leave the only escape to those who would tear them apart from the opposite side. It's typical Eurotrash stupidity. They can't be stopped. They can't stop themselves. It's part of the suicidal run Europe has been on since the end of colonialism. Worse, we're not far behind in the suicide sweepstakes and we've picked an even more pathetic, retarded, Third World agent of our own destruction who hates everything about us and our country. I can't really think back to any other example of a leader who hates everything about a nation being elected to lead it. I can't think of anything even close.

The real problem is that we, as humans, tend to take things to extremes.

There IS a place for Nationalism... but since it was taken to extremes with the Nazis... now we go the other way and throw out with disgust what is a good idea IN MODERATION...

Its like the Environmental movement.... which started as a good idea (pollution and trash were bad) but have been taken to such an extreme that it is partly to blame for ruining our economy.

43 We saved Europe from fascism, and then saved them from communism. Then, left to their own devices, they fall right back into it. From communists in /Catalonia, to Neo-NAZIs in Greece, modern European civilization is hard-wired for totalitarianism. This will not end well...

The same reason why there is still polio someone said it was a plot to make the people sterile There was reports that when the doctors came to the town to vacsinate the kids from Polio the Imam was so evil he has the arms cut off all the kids and given back to the doctor.

52 Here's a cute description of the arabs and arab culture from way back in the 14th century (by a muslim, yet): It is noteworthy how civilization always collapsed in places the Arabs took over and conquered, and how such settlements were depopulated and the (very) earth there turned into something that was no (longer) earth. The Yemen where (the Arabs) live is in ruins, except for a few cities. Persian civilization in the Arab 'Iraq is likewise completely ruined. The same applies to contemporary Syria. When the Banu Hilal and the Banu Sulaym pushed through (from their homeland) to Ifrigiyah and the Maghrib in (the beginning of) the fifth [eleventh] century and struggled there for three hundred and fifty years, they attached themselves to (the country), and the flat territory in (the Maghrib) was completely ruined. Formerly, the whole region between the Sudan and the Mediterranean had been settled. This (fact) is attested by the relics of civilization there, such as monuments, architectural sculpture, and the visible remains of villages and hamlets.

80 More 14th century commentary on arab culture: 25. Places that succumb to the Arabs are quickly ruined. The reason for this is that (the Arabs) are a savage nation, fully accustomed to savagery and the things that cause it. Savagery has become their character and nature. They enjoy it, because it means freedom from authority and no subservience to leadership. Such a natural disposition is the negation and antithesis of civilization. All the customary activities of the Arabs lead to travel and movement. This is the antithesis and negation of stationariness, which produces civilization. For instance, the Arabs need stones to set them up as supports for their cooking pots. So, they take them from buildings which they tear down to get the stones, and use them for that purpose. Wood, too, is needed by them for props for their tents and for use as tent poles for their dwellings. So, they tear down roofs to get the wood for that purpose. The very nature of their existence is the negation of building, which is the basis of civilization. This is the case with them quite generally. Furthermore, it is their nature to plunder whatever other people possess. Their sustenance lies wherever the shadow of their lances falls. They recognize no limit in taking the possessions of other people. Whenever their eyes fall upon some property, furnishings, or utensils, they take it. When they acquire superiority and royal authority, they have complete power to plunder (as they please). There no longer exists any political (power) to protect property, and civilization is ruined. Furthermore, since they use force to make craftsmen and professional workers do their work, they do not see any value in it and do not pay them for it. Now, as we shall mention, labor is the real basis of profit. When labor is not appreciated and is done for nothing, the hope for profit vanishes, and no (productive) work is done. The sedentary population disperses, and civilization decays. Furthermore, (the Arabs) are not concerned with laws. (They are not concerned) to deter people from misdeeds or to protect some against the others. They care only for the property that they might take away from people through looting and imposts. When they have obtained that, they have no interest in anything further, such as taking care of (people), looking after their interests, or forcing them not to commit misdeeds. They often level fines on property, because they want to get some advantage, some tax, or profit out of it. This is their custom. It does not help to prevent misdeeds or to deter those who undertake to commit (misdeeds). On the contrary, it increases (misdeeds), because as compared to getting what one wants, the (possible financial) loss (through fines) is insignificant.

87 Did youse guise see the thing from Barone today about only ~9% of people are actually participating in the polls?

What correction factor is used for 81% of the people the pollster wishes to interview declining to be interviewed?  Is there any reason why a ~9% response rate would consistently oversample Dems?

Well, a lot of us would say something like: “conservatives think it is all BS anyway so more of them don’t do the poll.”  Maybe, but it probably projects sentiments onto too many people that really aren’t like folks that follow politics.  So, I would say the effect of that exists, but in the overall scheme of things is not numerically large.

So, my next thought – I don’t answer phone calls from people who block their identification, unless I recognize the number.  Are lots of people doing that now?  If so, who are the 9% who actually take the call?  Do they skew older?  Do they skew bored as hell?  Who is leading a robust, busy life and decides to spend time on the phone with a pollster?  I don’t have a clue about the answer to these questions.

Barone also pointed out that pollsters are applying corrections for cell phone only households.  Based on what?  He implies that the corrections assume the household will skew younger and more liberal.  Is that a reasonable assumption?  If so, how much should it affect results?  Is it true that younger people didn’t learn a damn thing over the past 4 years?  Do they know if they are unemployed, or if their wealth is dropping, or if they can pay their loans?  Are they all locked into thinking that the only thing that will help them now is Uncle Sugar sending them checks?  Or, are they thinking that something else would be better than where they are now?  How would a pollster know if they don’t actually talk to them?

Finally, have independents really changed, or will they vote pretty much like they always do?  If so, no one wins with less than 50% of the independents.  Why would any pollster think this year will be different?

Insty had a link to Zombie where he did a follow up where he asked people why they don't participate.  I don't participate cuz I want politicians to say what they think rather than try to figure out the best way to tell me what they think I want to hear.

91 78 Why are babies still dying of whooping cough? Because liberals fear things that are not truly scary and insist that they be destroyed and they mollify, placate and attempt to appease those things that are trying to kill us.

That's part of it, the appeasement impulse and weird fears. But the other part is the leftists' reflexive insistence that anything that man does in his role as scientist, or businessman, or doctor, must be perfect, or it should not be done at all. Anything natural, anything done by savages, well, stuff happens. But better 10,000 kids die from a disease, than that 10 are injured from something created by man. Is there any reason why a ~9% response rate would consistently oversample Dems?

There is the distinct possibility that Mitt Romney will win and the pollsters will be very angry and embarrased.

My intuitive sense on the ground is that Romney will win in Ohio.  People are angry about his shit, and there is not the childish swell of enthusiasm for Obama today as there was in 2008.

It's just possible that some politicians will actually come to the conclusion that you stated, and actually start trying to explain to people where they stand and stop pandering.

But then again, who am I kidding. At least about the politicians.

188 Well, this is in the kitchen and the receptacles are required to be GFI protected due to location.  On the other side of the wall is the living room, and that needs that arc-fault for the receptacle being fed over there.

The line-in is on arc fault, so the kitchen side receptacles wind up getting both(which is perfectly legal).  The whole mess is above and beyond preexisting code minimums, so I'm free to do whatever I want as long as it conforms to location constraints (like AFCI/GFCI).

This pipes down to a quad down by the floor and two switchs in another box.  so I'm using line and load on the GFI receptacle, and there's a AFCI/GFCI protected blk/wht going back up the pipe as spares incase I want to drop another kitchen/bathroom/outside receptacle in somewhere later on

The fact that it ever saw any play, anywhere, and that it had any budget at all is ridiculous. Personally, I couldn't believe that everyone associated with it didn't just kill themselves. Spielberg could have done us all a big favor.

Well, Dad's doing okay, but his brother just died, so we are looking at a possible bit of setback. He isn't very happy about having to fly to Seattle again for yet another funeral. I'm thinking that's probably the worst thing about getting old and being in relatively good shape--your best people are getting planted and there you are.

OTOH, his running buddies are mostly younger and keep him pretty active. He was up to two miles a day walking again, not running, but that is huge compared to a month earlier.

I'm back to the Lower 48, missing AK and wishing I was up there shoveling the snow off Dad's driveway. Oh well. Maybe once we really lose the house we can find a dollar or two to move. It sure was nice for the 5 weeks I got to stay this time.

279 205 Purp, you have never been as sexy to me as you are right now... but I was talking about using a bigger box(!)

This one is plenty deep enough for the GFCI.  Its a 2.25" deep 4-square with a 1/2" mud ring.  The mud ring added 5.5cu/in which was just enough additional volume to make the scheme legal.  I could have passed on the outbound AFCI/GFCI spares going up to the attic if I needed to, but I didn't when I added the mud ring's volume into the calculation.

Even a deep 4-11/16" box wouldn't have added any extra depth, just a bit of volume, and I didn't have any of those in stock anyway.  Part of this exercise is about using up misc materials on hand.

The box isn't going to be packed with wirenut splices.  Its looking like two yellows or reds for pigtails, and a greenie.

Tentacles are doin' ok, thanks for askin'.

Racing up and down the side of the tank isn't terribly unusual -- they're probably bored. If you introduce a large, predatory fish, they'll go back to cowering in "safe zones". Also, fish can see what's going on outside of the tank -- so they may be swarming around when they see you because they think you're likely to feed 'em. Mbuna (rock-dwelling cichlids from Lake Malawi) are famous for doing this -- they'll follow your hand from one end of the tank to another and back.

346 Last two days I have run into (well, not literally, the instant gratification not being worth the insurance hassle) several different TFG stickers. And as a graphic designer I noticed something...odd.

The first had OBAMA (O logo) BIDEN running together on the first line, which made the type in comparison fairly small scale. I couldn't actually read the names until passing in the next lane got me close enough to the bumper. I couldn't read the second line at all - probably the website address.

The second was the 2012 with the O logo standing in for the zero (how appropriate!)

The third was "I'm Proud of My President" (not "our" President, note), directly above and abutting an old Obama '08 sticker. I think the "O" was once again the logo but it was hard to tell.

It was the '08 sticker that made me realize -- none of the new crop I was seeing was designed in such a way that the Obama name was instantly recognizable at a distance, as the 08 variety did.

Mind you, you couldn't mistake them for anything but a O campaign, what with the color and font and logo choices. And everybody knows his name by know, there's no need to spread its familiarization.

But a little googling shows that there are comparable LARGE-TYPE NAME bumper stickers for 2012 available. I just haven't seen any of them on a vehicle.

Doesn't it suggest that these motorists, though eager enough to show their support for TFG, are now leery of blaring the actual name? That they're more comfortable being seen pledging their allegiance to the Brand Logo than the actual person?

385 declarations of certainty based on absolute BS. Posted by: jc at October 01, 2012 12:35 AM (ufJKx) That was always true with these sorts of opinion polls. The margins of error they quote are about nothing but sample size since there is always the background assumption of normal distribution of polling returns over random samples. But, since they intentionally tailor the sample makeups of these opinion polls the mathematical concept of margin of error bears little if any relation since the samples, themselves, are anything but random. That said, the phrase "margin of error", itself, is a misnomer. It is really more of a probabilistic window of confidence, but "confidence level" is already used for another part of it so it would sound redundant.

386 378 379 I know you're joking but I think you are onto something. The numbers they are seeing at these places and the OFA campaign would seem to indicate the projected vote tally for Romney fails to surpass the margin of fraud in key states like OH VA and PA. Only voter turnout and concentrated anti-fraud action can overcome that margin. Suppress enthusiasm in key states and the dead will make up the difference. I still can't grasp how anyone can say something is already decided and there is essentially no event or message that could conceivably change the outcome. 08 if McCain hadn't of cracked and cancelled letterman we may well be defending his presidency right now. Here in Washington State, during the 2004 election kerfuffle, the lady that "reconciles" the counts of "paper sheets on hand" versus "people that voted" admitted under oath that the way she reconciled the two was to "Take the paper count, subtract the spoiled ones, and there we are: people that voted!"

She's supposed to be adding up the signatures, etc.

"We'll never have that problem again!" Solution: Eliminate that check entirely Now WA is 100% absentee now. The 'signatures' are exposed and trickle in for weeks before-and-after. We're listed as a 'require ID state' IIRC, but bills count as "ID".

399 I know you're joking but I think you are onto something.

Huge fraud is NOT out of the question.  In past elections there have been mid west cities where the total vote count EXCEEDED the number of registered voters.  Given that turnout is never even close to 100% except in the smallest of burghs, that sort of thing is prima facie evidence of massive vote fraud.

The media and legal system was singularly incurious about these anomalies, which tells you which side was doing all the fraud.

Several.

Posted by: rightlysouthern at September 30, 2012 07:52 PM (KEoMd)

402 Beck was talking with Ralph Reed on Friday (on the gas-fired TeeVee).

Ralph Reed says that the polls are simply not picking up on the fact that Evangelical Christians are participating this year in record numbers.

Back when Grumpy McCscrewup was running, a huge number of evangelicals stayed home.  Turnout for that group was at an historical low.

Also, Obama is bleeding support from his two biggest, tightest blocks: blacks and Jews.  Sure, they still support Obama in the high 80's, but both groups are down from five to seven percent.  Probably more among Jews, thanks to the last few weeks.

Among unions, it's mixed.  Many UAW Auto Workers are afraid they'll lose their jobs if Obama loses. (Not the folks at Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, Nissan, and Kia plants).  Coal and Steel workers *know* Obama is killing their jobs, so they are voting for Romney.

So look at all the close states from 2008, and think about those percentages Obama has lost since then.  Ask yourself what group has he increased voters in, besides possibly illegal aliens and the dead?

Screw the polls.

Posted by: K~Bob at September 30, 2012 07:53 PM (N2RQX)

403 And I agree, I think the school lunch crap was a nanny state too far for a LOT of parents. That's tied directly to the Obamas in a way they cannot spin away, Michelle Obama was right up front on all the women's shows and had her name tied to it prominently. And people across the political spectrum are really annoyed with it.

Posted by: Christopher Taylor at September 30, 2012 07:53 PM (r4wIV)

404 No matter what happen in November the Republicans need to derive some version of Howard Deans 50 state strategy. Peri us is a smart guy but he has been too busy and too extended cleaning up the Steele financial mess. Republicans need to spend the resources in all states and tailor their message and candidates to each state. It's a lot easier to commit fraud when only a handful of states are the determinant. There is no reason why states should be moving red to blue without the reverse happening. The difference is in 04/05/06/07 one party was spending the resources to change the map and the other party was buying fetish club memberships.

406 Given the massive tide of workers away from private sector unions, they're pretty much a non issue in elections except for the cash. How they vote isn't very significant any more.
President Obama's biggest problem with Blacks is turnout. More than a few are going to just blow off voting. Sure, they'll still vote for the "brother" by 95% or more, but a lot, lot fewer will vote this time out. Same with the youth vote.

Some months ago Harris physically mailed me a poll and enclosed $2 in the envelope as payment for taking it.  I responded promptly, and responded with 100% honest accurate answers.

If someone wants to pay for my opinion, then I'm going to respond and give them the truth.  If they want me to help put money in their pockets for free, then they're gonna get what they're paying for.

would I be out of line to assume that someone with your nic has some grasp on stats?  OK.  the word was that as late as 1996, poll participation was ~37% (? from memory).  Now, it has dropped to ~9%.

So, what in heck would anyone do to plot error bars on this rascal?  Pollsters are locked into their concept that 800/1000 entries means a margin of error under 4%.   Is that gaussian every time?  When the mice refuse to play, how could that hold?  What could you do to correct?  If people won't be interviewed, you sure can't ask them why they won't be interviewed.

Well that is a flaw in the system, they want people to give them their product for free. Sure they rearrange it and make a report, but the product is all free. That's absurd. Even Nielson pays people.
A small check for filling out a poll is not unreasonable, given the money these guys make. I'd probably lie through my teeth anyway just to screw with their entire operation but at least I'd respond instead of instantly hanging up.

415 I interviewed a woman last week from Bosnia. She immigrated to the US in her late twenties. I asked her why she decided to come here. "Because America is the only free country left," she said. "Americans don't realize it, but there's nowhere else in the world where free people can live." With the interview over, as she was leaving, she stopped in the doorway and turned back to me. "If you don't want your country to become like Bosnia, keep your 2nd Amendment. Once the government gets your guns, they can do anything they want and nobody will be able to do anything about it."

I think it was Patterico but someone recently did a great job explaining why the margin of error doesn't work when you put humans into the mix. Its fine with numbers or patterns, but humans are irrational and often random. You have to poll more people to get a reasonable sample, but they figure under 2000 people is enough in a nation of over 300 million.

That's nothing remotely similar to the "plus or minus 0.1C" you might read off of a thermometer.

460 Around the time of the bomb plots, it became pretty clear that some OWS "organizers" had embezzled millions of dollars that were never seen again too.  That stolen money was high level Democrat money, not pocket change from the brain dead zombies who were the foot soldiers.  Nobody was interested in finding it either...because a prosecution would have had to reveal where it came from.

Once they robbed that cash and were into the bomb plots, it was all over.  The administration distanced itself real quick.

486 Hillbuzz is fantastic I most often hear that Obama’s doing drugs when he’s supposedly “golfing”…and this is happening either in the locker room or in private rooms that the clubs would make available to him. Once he’s outside of camera range on the links, he could be doing drugs openly int he golf cart too. What a great place for him to do this, with a few male “friends”, and have some privacy outside of the White House. I also think he’s probably engaging in sexual acts in the steam room and sauna at those country clubs. Those locker rooms are plush and very posh, so they might even have the big jacuzzi tubs that fit a half dozen naked guys. Obama has a few regular “golfing buddies” that appear to be an odd cast of characters for a sitting US President to be golfing so much with. Some of them are very young white guys who work in the press office…and others like Bobby Titcombe are men Obama’s age who have been arrested for soliciting sex from male prostitutes. None of these people are the equivalent of a Vernon Jordan — the Washington power broker who’d often golf with President Clinton. Back in the Clinton days, the presidential golfing foursomes would include governors, Senators, royalty, and Cabinet members. Read more http://hillbuzz.org/

500 that 15% "undecided" or "open to changing mind" cohort introduces some major uncertainty that just can't be quantified by normal statistical sampling.

That the 43/42 comes from a 9% response rate introduces chaos.  The data in these polls is hopelessly corrupt and their conclusions unsupportable.

The 91% who aren't responding are the legendary "silent majority" of the Nixon era.

I think Romney has figured out how that 91% is going to go and he's not worried at all.  Obama's reckless moves and obvious desperation says he's figured it out too.

504 @502 -.- i directed you guys to the dictionary last night, and i'll do it again: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/cult (or just click my name) take a look at the first two definitions for that word and tell me xtianity is not a by-the-book cult (along with every other system of belief in the world)! not until the tertiary definition does the "spurious" connotation come into play; the *main* meaning of "cult" in the english language is neither pejorative nor implicative of illegitimacy. again, i understand that religions use "cult" to describe what they consider to be illegitimate offshoots of their own system of belief, but in standard english usage, "cult" doesn't carry such connotations, so it wasn't intended to offend. anyway, i was referring to calling people totally unreasonable and insinuating that they are incapable of following a logical train of thought.

510 @508 yeah, that's another excellent point that i missed. i'm not too familiar with polling historicity, but the word "chaos" seems to be totally appropriate to describe the refusal of over 90% of the target sample to respond. i know about sampling, and all, but i have a feeling that the refusal to respond has a significant psychological aspect, too, and it certainly isn't just a totally at-random phenomenon. @511 there's a really good book called "how to lie with statistics" that everyone should read! it's not an academic book, and it's extremely accessible to readers of all levels. i would wager it could be picked up for a couple of bucks at a local used bookstore...which we should all try to support, since they're disappearing

Suggestion: you can either lighten up and make it funny, toughen up and stop being offended by any of it, or gain a little empathy and see accurately the actual message people (not me, cuz I just don't care) around here receive from you.  A combination of the 3 would probably be your best bet.

Bad thing is...a lot of people don't know the difference, if they're using that as their sole source.

Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at September 30, 2012 09:08 PM (X3lox)

527 i was referring to calling people totally unreasonable and insinuating that they are incapable of following a logical train of thought.

There are an infinite number of "logic systems" that can be defined (from a mathematical POV).   Its a mistake to presume that what is a sound conclusion in one translates to a sound conclusion in another in the absence of a meta-system above them all that could be used to draw conclusions that were valid in all lower systems.

A logic system is just a set of rules used.  The rules for any system can be relatively arbitrary and still produce a system that's capable of making conclusions that are valid within that system.

A religious person would generally take perfectly logical actions within the rules of the logic system they're operating in.

Your problem is that you can't accept that multiple logic systems can exist.

I wish I could remember the name of one of my theoretical computing profs at UCSD he was a real expert on this kind of logic system stuff and wrote a decent book about it we used in class.  Patrick Connor maybe?  He was an Irishman.  I know his first name was Patrick.

Posted by: @PurpAv at October 01, 2012 02:09 AM (LPHGB) I don't know who your prof was but what you are looking for, mathematically, is called Topos Theory. Essentially, each topos is a mathematical universe with its own logical and arithmetic foundation, which can vary widely the same way that an infinite number of non-euclidean geometries exist with each having its own different metric. This is not coincidental, BTW, as a topos can be thought of both as a logical universe and an abstraction of geometry. The whole idea was simultaneously arrived at coming from the fields of logic and geometry, intersecting in the Sheaf Theory and becoming, after some refinement, Topos Theory. Very wild stuff. Most important mathemtical development of the 20th century, I would say.

545 @535 well, i'll try my best on your behalf not to resurrect a dead horse, but you clearly don't remember the exchange to which i was referring, because without a doubt, in *any* acceptable system of logic, the conclusion i was attacking wouldn't fly; it was *explicitly* self-contradictory. one inescapable prerequisite of *any* acceptable system of logic is self-consistency, religious thinking or not. self-contradictions are explicitly illogical. still, it was wrong of me to insinuate that anyone was totally incapable of a logical train of thought based on a single self-contradictory conclusion, and it's a little embarrassing in retrospect. at any rate, please do your best to keep the mentalism to a minimum: not only do i *not* consider that religious people cannot have a consistent system of logic, but if you take the time to think about it, you might remember that i actually took PAINS last night to reconcile certain seeming contradictions between modern science and religious thought; i.e., my defence of a religious concept of "free will" with the facts of modern neuroscience. nobody who thinks all religious thought is inherently illogical would do such a thing, and the reason i did was to draw a distinction between logical thought and the rather unrealistic literal-scriptural infallibility that characterises the most reactionary of religious groups in america and elsewhere. perhaps a bit of further thought will remind you that my main arguments were against the rejection of scientific conclusions in favour of pure scriptural literalism? anyway, let's try our best not to read each other's minds, ok? that's what heated me up last night...having my mind read by someone who really hadn't the first clue about my motivations. it's not nice.

594 "I bought this one new at BN back in 89'."

Does it define the word 'misandry' or just 'misogyny'?

Posted by: derit at September 30, 2012 10:03 PM (I88Jc)

595 jimi jimi cummings, You mean "sympathize", not "empathize". You don't "try to empathize" with someone. Either you do or you don't but it isn't a matter of effort. You can try to sympathize with someone as a voluntary action, but not empathize. People, these days, don't seem to understand what those words mean and they almost always err on the side of abusing "empathize" for some reason.

Posted by: ThePrimordialOrderedPair at September 30, 2012 10:03 PM (X3lox)

596 if you've gotten this far and you still happen to think there's condescension involved on my part, well, it *might* just be your psychological bias at play.

Or you might just be someone who's waaaaay too invested in needing, for whatever psychological reason, to put a beatdown on people who are religious (special focus on Christians) and will use any technique possible to do so.

Might I suggest that your mental outlook might be significantly improved by adopting a not giving a shit attitude?   If something isn't directly attacking me, I don't usually give a shit.

Not giving a shit is very liberating.

644 Need to figure out how to upload pics from the phone to the mac. I have a fairly decent shot of the tile wainscotting. Took 2 trips to the Dome Hepot - one for more spacers and one for more mastic ...

646 As this thread progresses JR is seeming more sympathetic and his detractors less so

647 anyway, the idea that someone who has been main author on FIVE peer-reviewed publications across THREE scientific disciplines without even having a phd yet, has written articles for MAJOR national newspapers -- admittedly marginal articles, but still -- and was additionally the editor of his super-exclusive university's undergraduate paper be given writing tips by someone who is...ont author on a blog of medium popularity (no dis; just for comparison) is...rather quaint, to say the least. xD especially since that ont author has *no clue* what the word "verbose" means (which, as a friendly hint, has nothing to do with the sheer amount of *information* in a piece of writing). ~.~ of course, banning me for using a word i've used plenty of times before without having been warned about it -- and a word which comes up no less than FIVE THOUSAND, NINE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY TIMES in a google search of "site:minx.cc spades c*nt" -- would just be one more double standard in a night full of them, wouldn't it? bill keller would be proud! /rolleyes

(And if you knew who that was you'd be laughing your ass off right about now.) (Otherwise, I got nothin'.)

650 Just in practical terms I've found it to be very important where you look for justice.  That's just an old man's advice based on my experience

657 Sometimes the young are inappropriately surprised and enraged when they expect justice and fairness because they don't realize that most social situations are just poor reincarnations of high school.

676 This is not an endorsement of the Golden Dawn, but they are not the problem, the presence of obviously incompatible non-White mass immigrants in Greece is the problem.

Africa for the Africans, Greece also for the Africans? That makes no sense if you like Greeks and want them to have a future.

Posted by: Daybreaker at October 01, 2012 12:50 AM (IOCP4)

677 4 Opposition to unlimited immigration is the majority opinion in much of Europe, and yet the "right wing" in Europe is indistinguishable on the issue from the left wing.
**
The "racist!" accusation is used to shut people up, and effectively deny political representation to White people who are rightly afraid of genocidal levels of mass immigration.

678 Posted by: jimi ray at October 01, 2012 04:11 AM (79EF9) Heh. You're getting funnier. The Cap&Trade program on your comments is working wonders for you. Talk to me in a few days.
