I guess the motto for all of the precious snowflakes who are going to be triggered by the thought of the good guys having guns on campus is "Bring a dildo to a gun fight!" [Wait....what?]

This is actually even more nonsensical than the typical rabid anti-gun rantings of the Left. Presumably Texas, with its moderate gun laws has many citizens quietly going about their business all over the state while carrying concealed weapons. And because the minimum age for a concealed carry permit is 21, that immediately shrinks the number of possible weapons on campus, probably to a point well below the background percentage across the state. So the hysteria is completely and totally unfounded. But you knew that already.

This Year, Let's End the School Supplies Arms Race

Why can't kids re-use old crayons, like they do at my local public library? Their lack of spiffy new wrappers and stubby shapes have never slowed my daughter down from creative drawing. Why can't kids bring their own plastic cup and wash it at the end of the day, instead of making parents buy thousands of Dixie cups that will only wind up in the trash? And why do kids need the world's most exotic calculators, when they are likely only using 20 percent of its functionality?

Abe Yehuda is the Israeli-based incarnation of a blog that used to be called FresnoZionism. It is written by an American Jew who recently moved to Israel. Here he discusses a book, written by a reliably left-wing Israeli author, that exposes perfectly the astonishing conceit of progressives, not just in Israel, but all over the world. Mrs. Keret's Delusion is exactly that....the assumption that we have control over the hearts and minds of others.

Shira's statement contains a fundamental mistake: the belief, part of what Dr. Kenneth Levin calls the "Oslo Syndrome," that it is in our power to change reality enough to cause the Palestinians to make peace." A corollary, which she also enunciates, is that if we haven't succeeded, we (our leaders) just haven't tried hard enough. We haven't been creative enough or we haven't had the "courage" to make the concessions that - if we only would take the risk - would bring peace.

This is an arrogant position, and one that denies agency to the Palestinians. Some things aren't only up to us. Today's State of Israel has a great deal of power, but it does not have the power to change what is in the hearts of the Palestinians: a combination of false narratives, religious principles, shame, anger, envy and hatred.

Why Cryonics Makes Sense The writer makes some powerful arguments....but it's still nuts.

Death-chart-2.png

The first person to give cryonics a try was James Bedford, a psychology professor who died of cancer in 1967 at the age of 73 and is doing his thing in a vat of liquid nitrogen in Arizona as you read this. Others slowly began to follow, and today, there are over 300 people hanging out in vats of liquid nitrogen.

Now let's pause for a second. A year ago, I knew almost nothing about cryonics, and my impressions of it were something like this sentence:

Cryonics, or cryogenics, is the morbid process of freezing rich, dead people who can't accept the concept of death, in the hopes that people from the future will be able to bring them back to life, and the community of hard-core cryonics people might also be a Scientology-like cult.

He should have stopped right there.....

Wells Fargo to Hogue Inc: We won't do business with weapons manufacturers. The destruction of our civil liberties through executive action continues apace.

Operation Choke-point is the scandal-ridden Department of Justice's initiative aimed at punishing making business difficult for those industries they don't like. Payday lenders (ok, these can be dicey but are still better than loan-sharks), coin dealers (precious metals throw a wrench in their fiat currency scam), and firearms manufacturers and dealers (because...guns are icky and stuff) have all been targeted by the Obama's highly-politicized DOJ. Since the Administration's frontal assaults on the Second Amendment have not yielded the results they want, they have resorted to Executive Branch action to try to move the ball. In this they are pressuring financial institutions to deny banking services to the targeted industries.

Not to mention all the sleek, sultry accessories from Magpul, Troy Industries, Zeiss, Aimpoint and many more. Today's Adult Toy stores aren't like the dark, cobwebbed and furtive stores of old. And that would work a million time better in the Middle East than in any other area of the world. Because the arabs and mohammedans are some seriously fucked up people, sexually.

Funny thing, that was a minor sub-plot in Nelson DeMille's novel, The General's Daughter. In the novel, Operation Bonkers was supposed to be a preliminary tactic during the Gulf War. The Air Force would drop tons of hard-core pornography on Iraqi positions, which would totally distract and destabilize the enemy. It was cancelled because the Saudis found out and flipped their lids.

James Hiram Bedford (April 20, 1893 - January 12, 1967) is the first person whose body was cryopreserved after legal death, and who remains preserved at the Alcor Life Extension Foundation.

Compared to those employed by modern cryonics organizations, the use of cryoprotectants in Bedford's case was primitive. He was injected with Dimethyl sulfoxide, a compound once thought to be useful for long-term cryogenics, so it is unlikely that his brain was protected. Vitrification was not yet possible, further limiting the possibility of Bedford's eventual recovery.

Yes, but that's still kind of the same thing.

Anecdotes aren't data, but I'll give you one anyway. When I was stationed in Egypt many many years ago, we were getting ready to rotate out of the base, and all the guys in the unit were tossing their porn magazines that they'd purchased in Israel, and smuggled across the border. This was quite interesting to the Egyptian civilian workers on the base (who we all knew were actually Egyptian secret police, and therefore privileged guys who could get anything they wanted). Once one of them found a porn mag in the trash, it was a fucking feeding frenzy, with swarms of swarthy perverts fighting, literally fighting over fuck books on the base. Damnedest thing I've ever seen with my own eyes.

No idea about porn, but the JAG corps decided a couple of years ago that toe poppers were a completely inhumane and forbidden method of warfare.

The devices have all been removed from the inventory and destroyed. Despite their repeatedly proven utility in preventing pursuit.

Me? I figure that for every spec-ops troop who gets run to ground and killed by pursuing enemy forces, we should carefully and procedurally shoot one member of the JAG corps. Maintaining the balance of nature and all that.

400 Here's the solution to the two condom, Mary Ann and Ginger problem.

You put on both condoms, one over the other. You bang Ginger. You take the outer condom off. You then bang Mary Ann, with just the inner one. Your buddy then takes the outer condom, puts in on, and bangs Ginger. He then puts the one you just used with Mary Ann on top of the one he just used, and he bangs Mary Ann.

  Elementary, my dear Watson.

427 The etymology of "dildo" is a mystery, it turns out.  The most common theory is it comes from the Italian "diletto" which means "a woman's delight".  Another is it comes from Old English "dill-doll" which comes from Norse "dilla" which is a verb meaning "to soothe".

I see a quote from an old slang dictionary from 1889, the Urban Dictionary of it's day which defines "dildo" quite specifically:

"An instrument made of various soft, pliable substances, and resembling the male pudendum, used by women, who possessing strong amatory passions, and forced to live celibate lives, are afraid of pregnancy following natural copulation."

A another theory says the word "dildo" was a seafaring term that referred to a small peg used to lock an oar into position on some small boats. The peg was roughly phallus shaped.

Sort of like the "pecker head" junction boxes used on electric motors. The top cover reminds one of the glans.

437 Late to the thread, but here's my understanding of all the cryo folks. They done screwed up. Cells in your body are mostly water. Freeze water and it expands, even if you freeze and defrost it rapidly, cells will burst. Try freezing a banana and then thaw it out and let it sit for a day or two. You'll be surprised by how fast it spoils. About the best they can hope for is that enough DNA remains so that they could be cloned. Without all their previous memories.
IIRC, there was some Norwegian guy up in Nederland who froze his body out in a storage shed by his house up there. AFAIK, his body is still there and they hold a little holiday in Nederland to celebrate. His kids keep the body packed in dry ice.

443 The vaunted OED says the first appearance of the word "dildo" in English was in a poem by Thomas Nashe, around 1592. It was a dirty poem and wasn't officially published until the late 1800s. It is called the "The Choice of Valentines" or "The Merrie Ballad of Nash and His Dildo".

It's about a man who goes to see his favorite whore, Mistress Frances, but finds she'd been run out of town. He learns she moved "to the city" (don't know if this is London, or not). So he goes there and finds the brothel where she works. The madame offers him several others -- Frances is very high priced.

He's very excited to see her, and as that SNL ditty goes, he jizzes in his pants before he can get started. She revives him for a second round, but he goes too fast there too. She tells him to slow down so she can enjoy it too, but he fails. He has to use a dildo to finish her off.

And that, the OED says, is the first use of the word in English.

450 @ iforgot...........thanks for the Judicial Watch tip. I just made a quick read of the questions. My quick take? There are questions within questions, and those will be parsed by Hitlery's team, into about 80-ish individual questions, and challenged as to which are the actual 25 questions. By time those motions are heard, adjudicated, responded to and ruled upon, we'll be well past the election. Clintonism relies upon "it depends what the meaning of "is", is.", levels of retarded parsing, pedantry and mis-direction. And that won't change here, with these parenthetically embedded, multi-part, leading-up-to-the-actual-question, questions. I'm not a lawyer, and I defer to the brilliant minds at Judicial Watch. But I think I know how the Clintonistas will play things in response, and sadly, would put money down on the accuracy of the prediction. This holds, even if the Judge slaps the dicks of the Clintonista lawyers, too. They'll take the sanctions to buy the time. That's all that matters to them now; to push this all past the November elections. Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX

460 437 Late to the thread, but here's my understanding of all the cryo folks. Posted by: Old Blue at August 31, 2016 12:45 AM (9iR5 Ha! They damn sure do. I celebrated that holiday one year while living out there. Visited the shed. Locked tight of course. Old Ned. Great place. Has Cryo man and home of Yonder mountain String Band. From Boulder to Ned it is always interesting to pick up the hitchikers. I miss it out there. Most of my memories are hazy to say the least but when somebody who lives or lived out there mentions something to fire up the burned out neurons, it makes me happy and I sure am thankful and grateful for those who do

471 Heh, it seems that "broomhandle" became a euphemism for dildo back in the late 1800s. In 1873, Congress passed The Comstock Act, which was to kill trade in porn, contraception, sex toys, and information about any of them.

Back then, they didn't have direct jurisdiction, but the Comstock Act made it a federal crime to transmit any of that through the Post Office. And, it directly banned them all in D.C., where they had direct federal jurisdiction.

So any talk of dildos could thus get one in trouble, so "broomhandle" became a euphemism.

And some young AA Berners (remember the young lady in SC with the banner?) So you take away the job that supported a family by sending the factory to China (textile mills throughout the South), and increase illegal immigration so farmers don't have to pay the locals any more. They end up broke and hopeless. Then you cut benefits. Then you pass a tough on crime bill, and call their kids superpredators. The Clinton legacy has been devastating to the AA man and family.

And I did not include the ski towns either because that's a given. And Fort Collins was a place that was so friendly you could drive there and girls would take you in like a lost puppy. My theory about Colorado is the large buffer zones. Most people seem to be transplants and when you are 400 miles plus away from home, family and friends, things get very wild. A reference in the article to T-Rump helping himself on "gravitas" with a meeting like this - yes, I understand the framework the article has to operate within, but years of jaw-dropping idiocy from the unfit mediocrities in power (props at the first meeting with the Russian foreign minister? treated with justified contempt and ignored at the Copenhagen "climate" summit? humiliated like no president other than Carter in the last century by Russia and Syria?) still makes this kind of point grating. Besides which, in reality almost all the key actions that need to be taken WRT Mexico are unilateral. Just as all the outrageous, illegal, despicable actions Mexico takes against US security, sovereignty, and the safety and dignity of millions of people are unilateral. So coordination is less relevant than most assume.

What's baffling is how AfAm voters also backed Hillary in the 2016 Democratic primaries.

None of the other candidates could have done it, and who knows if he can? But screwing blue collar workers and starting stupid wars to enrich Wall Street and the MIC has hurt our country. The globalists wanted to run the same old shell game of Bush vs Clinton this year, and GOP primary voters didn't fall for the game. I don't know if Clinton will win, but it's sad to see the GOP working to elect her.

527 When I went to elementary school, many years ago, I would come to the first day of school and be introduced to my desk for the year, one of those metal ones with the big wooden top that flipped up like a lid to expose a storage space. When I lifted that lid the first day, I was treated to a complete set of supplies. Crayons, ruler, paper, pencils, and the rest. Supplies provided by the school then, and throughout the year. The only thing I had to bring to school that first day was my school clothes. This was not a rich school, either. It was a normal neighborhood, with normal middle-class people, and it was the same in every place I lived. So now parents have to provide everything, and schools are still wailing about their budgets. Really? Americans are now spending over 3 1/2 times the amount per student that we were back in 1960, in constant dollars adjusted for inflation. During that same time period, elementary and secondary teacher salaries have only gone up by a factor of about 1.4, also adjusted for inflation, and teachers are scrambling for supplies, often paying for them from their own salaries. Something stinks in this system, and just pouring more money into it isn't going to fix the real problems.

531 Old Red would occasionally find someone's porn stash that had been dumped. I remember one of those well. It was in the summer, and I think I was still in high school.

Ol' Red came in one afternoon and went up to the counter and opened up a little magazine. Two high tone redneck women, mother and daughter ran The Store. I could write a book about those two gals. They were quite well-fed, but would throw off on other women for being fat. Anyway, the daughter was at the counter.

Ol' Red had found some "shemale" porn. That was the first time I'd seen that, I believe. It was "small underground printing" operation, I think. Mostly black and white. But it existed back then.

Anyway, he opened one up in front of the daughter and said whatcha think of that. She screamed out, "Goddamn! Get that shit outta here!". What is that, someone asked. Ol' Red was laughing so hard he couldn't speak and was about to pee his pants, I think. She said, "It's a woman with a goddamned hickey!". "Hickey" was her term for a penis.

But she she was looking all over it, as was everyone else in there. The commentary was hilarious. "Is that what they call a sex-change?" "Hell, must be, but which direction is it going?" "Is that a woman sprouting a pecker, or a man growing tits?"

Another guy, a close neighbor, observed, "Well, she does know how to hold it right, don't she? Or it knows".

And just recalling that day to type about it has me laughing so hard I'm about to piss myself....

There were some guys there who didn't own a suit to their name, and didn't know how to act socially, yet they were trying to show respect.

567 Above, from the origins of "dildo" lead me to the Comstock laws, and Anthony Comstock, the head of the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice, and then to the tale of one Ida Craddock. The poor women wrote some sex manuals of the day.

Comstock went after her, and she spent time in jail and in insane asylums for it. She had just got out of jail and Comstock (who was given a special federal postal inspector position) re-arrested her on more federal charges for sending obscene material through the mail.

At the trial, the judge wouldn't let the jury even read the material, deeming it too obscene. She was convicted and sentenced to five years in the federal pen. She committed suicide the day before she was to report to prison, and wrote a lengthy suicide letter condemning Comstock.

She was concerned with men getting too rough with inexperienced brides who likely didn't know anything about sex (imagine some upper crust types).

Some of her stuff is funny an innaccurate, but by today's standards, it's mild. And yet it was so obscene in the day, they put in her prison for it. And drove her to suicide.

So what do the dumb-ass scofflaws expect when a fine notice says pay this amount by this date or go to jail?  Perhaps some clerk should remind these "plaintiffs" of the old adage; "if you can't pay the fine, don't do the crime".  And the ACLU should be forced to pay the court costs for every civil case they lose.  And they are going to lose this one.

At least 10o0 pages of BS.  After somebody finally reads and interprets them and demands real  answers, then the games "of  we answered that, right wing smears, old news, official statements"  etc.. begin and will drag on beyond the election.  The LIV's aren't even aware of these questions and the political /media classes will move on.  This barely a bump in the road for the Clinton machine.

640 Bottom dropping out of corn market as record harvest approaches. I'm thinking that alt.fuels now have a bigger price impact than any weather/climate events.

Had a mini-climate crisis here; like a fool, planted very showy heirloom corn varieties for reception guests to see. Got in late (cold wet spring, late frost), had no rain to speak of: even though surrounding area which grows a lot of corn was just drier than average (and caught up, last weekend), in my actual garden it was the longest spell since '88. So a mile down the road is bounteous 8-10 foot high hybrid, and I have scrawny li'l 3-4 footers just now tasselling off. Ah well, boutique farming. We're usually all done with corn by now.

Beans struggled too. They're coming. Tomatoes, cucumbers, late but ojesus.

651 Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. Had a goodbye drink (well, more than one) with a friend heading back to KC, so now am at work with a hangover. Just like college again. Oy. Anyway. . . Today is August 31. On this day in 1888, the body of the first canonical victim of Jack the Ripper,* a middle-aged prostitute named Mary Ann Nichols, was discovered in a byway called Buck's Row. Since that time, there have been hundreds of books, articles and pamphlets written about the Great Victorian Mystery. Some of them are worthwhile; most (such as those peddling the "Royal Ripper" theory, the so-called "Diary" of the Ripper or Patricia Cornwell's idee fixe regarding the painter Walter Sickert) are garbage. A good, popular overview of the Whitechapel Murders is The Complete Jack the Ripper by Donald Rumbelow: goo.gl/fVyAjy A former Metropolitan Police officer, Rumbelow has a detailed knowledge of the case and times and presents a very readable account of the Ripper crimes for anyone wanting to know a bit more than a superficial recounting. And though he has his suspicions, Rumbelow does not put forward any suspect as his candidate. A much more detailed look at the Ripper is by the late historian Philip Sugden, The Complete History of Jack the Ripper: goo.gl/ASP3yH Sugden not only makes his way through the crimes, he also provides a very detailed overview of the political scene and the behind-the-scenes infighting of the police. The book is slightly out of date, but absolutely essential for anyone with a deep interest in the case.

What will happen in the "big cities" is the voting will go from a normal of 110% of registered voters to 200%, thus covering any State they may have been close.

679 Yeah, Homeland security getting involved in state elections ... not the vote of confidence people are looking for.

Soros was found pushing the federalizing of police departments ... and they are now "overseeing" like thirty of them because they claim they found racism (which just means "disparate impact" ... more blacks arrested on percentage basis).

Soros also pushes the Muslim migrant invasion, and gets his way.  Money changes everything, when applied to the DC sellouts.

And of course the trade deals are a move toward US giving up some sovereignty.  Hillary praised Cronkite when he was receiving his "global governance award" back in 1999 (or so).

This Orwell Today site seems to have good info ... I've just started on a couple pages of it .. but it reveals the term "McCarthyism" as a commie manipulated attack, and seems to reveal just how far the communists had really reached into our policies, and how we were sold out long ago.

The consensus among the serious students of the case is that JtR was a Polish Jew named Aaron Kosminski, who, fairly soon after the murder of Mary Jane Kelly on November 9, went insane and had to be locked away. Based on a few police files and the private notes of one of the chief investigators, Kosminski usually tops the list of suspects. But complete, absolute proof has not yet surfaced.

No way obama or any democrat wants that to happen because once that door has been opened it can't be closed.

A lot of the stuff hit the fan under Bush with 9/11, dotcom collapse (& Enrons), then housing collapse.  But Bush was a globalist and we leveraged up our currency and Wall Street took control.  Then Obama with seven years of zero interest and QEs ... doubling debt, government unions pensions propped up .. nothing fixed, everything worse.

But most are clueless ... so finally an America First candidate is at least challenging the overthrow by the plutocrats, to at least try to steer us away from the next icebergs.

714 Dunno if anyone has pointed this out, but cryonics is largely crap. The issue is that as you freeze, the water in youforms long sharp crystals that literally poke holes in all the lipid protein microstructures that make a cell function, and then when they are unfrozen, those structures no longer work, having had big holes poked into them. If you freeze things fast enough, those crystals don't form, but it is exceedingly difficult to freeze something as large and heterogenous as a a person's head quickly enough (and by quickly, I mean that the transition from freezing to non-freezing has to be on the order of milliseconds, for the whole object.) so that the cells of the brain don't end up losing their incredibly detailed structure. You can do it with small objects, but anything over a few grams becomes a very substantial technical challenge. It is possible in theory, but nothing that anyone is doing with their stupid liquid nitrogen dinky crap is even going to come close. It is a scam.
