Overnight Open Thread (30 Jun 2017)
— CDR M

I'm sure this is only the tip of the iceberg. Feds confirm ISIS investigations underway in NC.

A domestic-terrorism expert told the Observer this week that the North Carolina probes are among some 1,000 active FBI investigations into ISIS-related threats encompassing all 50 states.
Shark Boom

Growing concerns over Great White Shark boom off Cape Cod. I think I've seen that movie.

If you're interested in tracking sharks, here is a cool website that lists the tagged sharks worldwide to see their current location.

Science

Well, y'all better get your party on. We only have until 2020 to save the Earth or something.

Movie Insults

Yeah, definitely NSFW!

U.S. Space Corps

House panel votes to split Air Force, create new U.S. Space Corps. Ahh, an opportunity for some new uniforms. I'm sure you morons have some ideas.

Teachers

So how many of these cases have to pile up before it rises to the level of the MSM coverage of the church scandals? Female teachers having sex with students: double standards, lack of awareness.

Neighborhood Weaponry

I think I'm going to try and make this and then ambush my son and his friends during a Nerf battle.

Russia

Of course, of course. Claire McCaskill was caught in another Russia lie.

Voter Data

States refuse Trump commission request for U.S. voter data. Well if it is debunked as they say, provide the data and make it go away.

Doom!

I know how this one ends. Treasury to run out of cash in next 3 months, leading to default or delay of payments.

Dog Video

Tonight's ONT brought to you by what are the odds of being a hero or a villain:

69 Voter fraud is trivial. Even if their were five million illegal aliens voting, they'd all be in California. Vote fraud is another matter. And by vote fraud I mean precinct workers stuffing ballet boxes, miscalibrated touchscreens on electronic voting machines, and simply reporting false vote tallies (as in the not Hillary Hillary recount in Detroit). Crude statistical analysis readily expose vote fraud and is often as simple as having more total votes than registered voters.

The top item was: Do not touch floating colonies of fire ants In the spirit of that wise advice: Do not stick your hands in the shark's mouth Do not stand in water, feeding bacon to the sharks Do not try to kiss or sexually interact with sharks Posted by: Splunge at June 30, 2017 10:21 PM (iMxBJ) If a shark is coming at you, punch it in the nose. We do operate and maintain critical space systems without which the infantry wouldn't have real time weather, broadband communications, positioning and timing, and all of the other things they have come to depend on. The mission environment is sufficiently unlike the Air Force, Army, or Navy (or Marines) that a separate service is justifiable.

You get that random boom, like a 1/4 stick, or block buster, or whatever the hell they call them these days. 239 Space Comand could work, but it's been taken already. Air Force Space Command would become the nucleus of the Space Corps, just as the Army's Air Corps became the Branch for US Army Air Forces. The next question is could the Space Corps wrest the ground based Missile and Space Defense role from the Army, which is descended from Anti-Aircraft Artillery (via Nike, Spartan and Sprint) which in turn descended from Coast Artillery. I vote for a space-black tunic, although keeping a "flight cap", rather than a beret. "Let's be about it, people."

292 The next question is could the Space Corps wrest the ground based Missile and Space Defense role from the Army, which is descended from Anti-Aircraft Artillery (via Nike, Spartan and Sprint) which in turn descended from Coast Artillery.

I could see SMDC being rolled up in there.  Their mission is already separate from Air Defense Artillery.  Also, I fully expect that with the Army, all the current SIGINT functions under Military Intelligence is going to get stripped away from Fort Huachuca and merged under Army Cyber Command.  I've been hearing rumblings that as soon as McCain retires Huachuca will go away anyway.

348 The men of the USS Indianapolis would disagree; that is, if most of the survivors of the sub attack weren't eaten by sharks. Posted by: troyriser at June well, they have two main categories of attacks, provoked and unprovoked. nearly anything you do, including bumping a shark unwittingly with your surf board, constitutes a provoked shark attack. victims of air or sea incidents, like the Indianapolis, are not included in either category, since the scientists consider them part of the food chain at that point. so next time an indonesian ferry goes down an 1000 go missing, well there were no shark attacks.

Go here, and find page/slide No. 8. http://tinyurl.com/7et5yc8 That is a perfect illustration of where the pain is, and exactly what it "looks like" in terms of where it feels to be. As you can see, it's not a "back" problem. Might not even be the Sciatic Nerve itself. But rather, a wildly inflamed-swollen muscle putting pressure on said nerve. Either way, it's mind blowing pain. Yesterday, it pinned me to the living room floor like a moth to a board. Was noon before I could (with help) get vertical, get meds, get into a steaming hot shower and a modicum of relief. I've endured a lifetime of recreational and competitive motorcycle incidents, heavy construction "oopsies", and innumerable other minor and not-so-minor injuries. I have hardware holding limbs together. I have sewn myself up, on at least one occasion. This is world-class pain, and I'm USED TO PAIN. Know what does help? Bourbon. Only mitigates the pain. DEFINITELY helps with a good night's sleep. Ah, but to wake again to immobilizing pain. Will the circle, be unbroken? Bye n' bye Lord, bye n' bye. Jim Sunk New Dawn Galveston, TX

Was noon before I could (with help) get vertical, get meds, get into a steaming hot shower and a modicum of relief. I did the same thing stretching too vigorously, and causing the piriformis (the muscle in your butt when injections are given) to spasm right before a baseball tournament. Serious, serious pain. But the foam roller helped a lot, so that by the end of the tournament I could actually run again. Of course, in using the roller it felt as though I had a golf ball in my back pocket. Along with all of the following: * Your voter ID number * Your full name * Your gender * Your home address * Your last home address * What day you moved * Where you vote * Your election history going back several years * Whether you vote in person or absentee * If you vote absentee, what date you asked for the ballot and what date you returned it. The only thing they don't make publicly available is last 4 of SSN. This concerted refusal is pure resistance bs (if copying text from his post re the list embarrels me, I apologize)

382 "As you can see, it's not a 'back' problem. Might not even be the Sciatic Nerve itself. But rather, a wildly inflamed-swollen muscle putting pressure on said nerve. Either way, it's mind blowing pain."

I've had two bouts of severe sciatica. It's nasty stuff.

I was advised by another sufferer to experiment with basically everything that I sit and lie on. Office chairs, car seats, recliners, mattresses.

That can be a really slow process. Wanting to change only one variable at a time. And then having to wait a few weeks with each substitution to see if it worked. When sometimes the new regime hurt more.

Then of course to be really rigorous in the analysis, it's necessary if some new setup works more comfortably to then go BACK to the old setup for a while to see if the pain returns. Which it can do with a vengeance.

I did eventually figure out combinations of everything that helped me get clear.

I never had to go this far, but I was told to look into getting hand controls for the car so that I didn't have to be working foot controls for throttle and brake. (To say nothing of a clutch. Ugh.)

391 I've had two bouts of severe sciatica. It's nasty stuff. As I understand it, sciatica basically results from inflexibility/weakness in the piriformis, through/under (depending on the person) which the sciatic nerve runs. If the piriformis spasms, it clenches the sciatic nerve, which is what causes the pain. There's nothing necessarily wrong with the sciatic nerve itself. In this respect, it's much like plantar fasciitis, which results from inflexibility in the calves (gastrocnemius and soleus), which can also be fixed through slowly and gradually working on their flexibility. In my experience, the foam roller will help enormously (assuming that all that's wrong is muscle spasming). Rolling out the piriformis will hurt like a mother, but if you gut your way through it, the muscle will gradually relax, and the problem magically disappears. I roll out routinely (i.e., every day) now, and haven't had the problem again in a decade.

398 They always get the X-ray vision wrong. It isn't projecting X-rays from your eyes. That wouldn't be of much use as a sensory enhancement since you wouldn't be receiving the X-rays that have passed through an object you want to see through. Just being able to perceive X-rays at a very high level is sensitivity is all that is needed. There is a certain amount always present, just not nearly enough for most applications such as medical diagnostics. Otherwise, if it didn't just prevent life from evolving at all, it would have to be far hardier in regard to that type of radiation.

451 THIS. I quit flying my flag after the 2012 election, except for Memorial Day and Veterans Day. On Independence Day 2013 I flew it upside down. I didn't do that again because I thought it unwise to call attention to myself in the USSA. I've resumed flying it daily since last November. Posted by: rickl at July 01, 2017 02:16 AM (sdi6R) There's always the Betsy Ross flag. It is a reminder that we must find recourse to the principles we had nearly a quarter of a millennium ago.

453 I have cellophane Scotch tape, magnetic recording tape of many sorts both analog and digital, metal plumber's tape, Kapton tape, blue painting tape, green painting tape, paper security fiber tape, biohazard tape, Gorilla tape, crime scene tape, Vetwrap veterinary tape, flue tape, Teflon pipe thread tape, leopard print tape, packaging tape, Micropore medical tape, asphalt tape, electrical tape, Velcro tape, and, waaaaaaaay down at the bottom of the tape box, yep, some scary old gray duct tape. Shoot, a fella' could have a pretty good weekend in Maplewood with all that stuff.

If only Major Kong could get me lined up with one of those classic 1960s SAC aircrew survival rifles. Then I'd really be set.
