Quote of the Day

"If I had known when I was shot down that I would be there more than seven years, I would have died of despondency, of despair," he told Investor's Business Daily. "But I didn't. It was one minute at a time, one hour, one week, one year and so on. If you look at it like that, anybody can do anything."

-- Admiral Jeremiah Denton

OMG: The NSA's Been Spying on Every Single Call, Text, and Email in Iraq!!!!!!!

A couple weeks ago, we learned from leaked documents that the NSA has the capability to record an entire country's calls, texts, and email in real time. That's a hell of a capability, and those documents revealed that it was being used in one country. Now, thanks to a retired NSA leader, we know which country that is: Iraq.

...No matter what the reasoning was, it's still pretty insane that the NSA can monitor every single phone call, text, and email in a country. They're doing that with six countries now, according to the leaked documents. But it's even more insane that friends of the NSA think fessing up to it is going to make the agency look good.

Apparently we're supposed to be outraged by this at least according to the writer. But then this kind of information collecting is the whole raison d'être of the NSA in the first place. If they're not trying to capture any signal intelligence of potential interest in a country up until recently thousands of US troops were fighting in, then I want an accounting of all the goddamn money we gave them and where their time was spent.

And the fact that this shocks and infuriates Glenn Greenwald: Priceless

Bill Clinton's Many Trips to (Under-Aged) Sex Island

Because sociopathic sleazy sleezbags gotta be sleazy.

A new lawsuit has revealed the extent of former President Clinton's friendship with a fundraiser who was later jailed for having sex with an underage prostitute.

Bill Clinton's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, who served time in 2008 for his illegal sexual partners, included up multiple trips to the onetime billionaire's private island in the Caribbean where underage girls were allegedly kept as sex slaves... the two men's friendship ... seems to have ended abruptly around the time of Epstein's arrest...

...Tales of orgies and young girls being shipped to the island, called Little St. James, have been revealed as part of an ongoing lawsuit between Epstein and his former lawyers Scott Rothstein and Bradley Edwards...

McCain: I want to name America's new immigration reform law after Ted Kennedy

McCain "when immigration reform passes I will make sure it is forever called the Edward M. Kennedy immigration bill"

- BuzzFeed Benny (@bennyjohnson) March 28, 2014
In fact, a right-wing friend mine of who works in politics saw Johnson's tweet and assumed McCain must have been joking. Surely, with immigration reform already imperiled by righty opposition, a GOPer already loathed by tea partiers wouldn't offer up the effort as a prayer to Teddy's memory. Would he?

You already know the answer to that question.

Detroit Looks to Sell Sewer System as Unpaid Bills Pile Up

OCP where are you?

Many Detroit residents have a more immediate problem than their city's tortured bankruptcy proceedings: their water is about to be shut off. After keeping the pipes open to everyone throughout the winter, the Detroit Water and Sewage Department is notifying thousands of residents that they'll be cut off unless they pay their bills. Just under half of all customers are delinquent, and together they owe more than $100 million.

At least in this case, the mountain of unpaid bills isn't the city's fault. But it certainly is to blame for leaving the agency in such dire financial straits. Despite annual revenues just south of $1 billion, its outstanding debt is six times that amount, and the system will need a number of expensive upgrades over the next few years.

FDA Orders Recall of Placebos Because They May Work

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recalled homeopathic remedies made by a company called Terra-Medica because they may contain actual medicine -- possibly penicillin or derivatives of the antibiotic.

Terra-Medica creates a range of homeopathic capsules, suppositories and ointments under clinical-sounding brand names including Pleo-Fort, Pleo-Quent and Pleo-EX. The FDA has found that 56 lots of the drugs may contain penicillin or derivatives of penicillin, which may have been produced during fermentation.

The Talbott family has suffered a tragic loss. Everything the family had saved for years, all of it disappeared in an instant. Now as The Onion reports, they set to the task of rebuilding their lives after the huge setback of a crashed DVR.

5 The REAL Bigots Regarding Same Sex Marriage The typical whine of the Progressive Left when it comes to Same Sex Marriage is that their enemies are “intolerant” and won’t treat people equally regardless of people’s possible predilection to snog those of the same sex. Tolerance, then, was mandated, even if it meant working with people who are forcing you to endorse a moral message you disagree with. More: http://politicalhat.com/?p=5414

65 Possible format fail follows--my response to my wife's Obama worship from this morning: O-care (or ACA, call it what you will) is the biggest lie foisted on the American people since Social Security. Remember how it would lower healthcare costs and a family would see their premiums go down by $2500? How you could keep your old plan, your old doctor? Obama's word was so good on the issue that we didn't need to read the law, and "we have to pass it to find out what's in it"? Well, the Obamessiah took a giant sh*t on American healthcare and people still defend it. The non-partisan OMB has shown that if will cost more than promised, more than double the original quote. By 2025, just as many Americans will be uninsured as there were in 2010. These aren't GOP talking points, these are the facts. Trillions of dollars flushed down the drain so some people can feel like they did something. Oh, by the way--about half of the 6 million "newly insured" are actually Medicaid, which they were already elligible for, and the majority of those who are paying for new policies are self-employed that had old policies cancelled. Maryland spent 9 figures on a website they just closed down. Oregon spent $300 million on a website that never signed up a single person in the first 5 months! And the 6 million number counts anyone who put something in their cart--which is like Amazon counting anything on your Wish List as sold already! Lies and billions of dollars later, and the system is worse now for more people than it helped--and we haven't even touched the large employers yet. Some 90 million people will lose their existing insurance this year if Obama doesn't illegally extend deadlines again. But, please, keep telling me how awesome if is.

Just remember that, contrary to the movies, you don't want to tie the ankle to the cinderblock -- once decomposition starts, that'll pop right off and you'll have a 95% corpse floating around. You want to attach the midriff to the cinderblock and cinch it tight, so it can't come loose until the spine separates -- by which time, all the rest of the pieces will be thoroughly scattered around.

Well, the last time the country had a Republican president, he promptly teamed up with intrepid Captain Kennedy of the submarine _Oldsmobile_, to pass federal education "reform" with which the intrepid captain said he was delighted. A "reform" which quickly evolved into the Common Core insanity.

Protip: if you are a supposed "conservative", and you can be in the same room with a Kennedy on amicable terms, you probably aren't an actual conservative at all.. (The principle has wide applicability. Bush. McCain. Hatch. Schwarzenegger.)

The fact is thousands of men have suffered in combat and prison camps. Suffered beyond anything that can be imagined by anyone who hasn't lived through it. A hell of a lot of those guys did not survive, or if they did, they never recovered. And we don't even know their names. This is not to take anything away from Denton, but to remind that Denton survived to lead a full life. I reiterate, and it is a common saying among the military, most of the true heroes are dead. And we don't even know what they did, or how they suffered, or how they died. So..., I salute Denton, but he is one among thousands.

238 Carol, I started using a Neti pot when I was pregnant and couldn't take anything for congestion. Now I use it when ever I get sick or allergies start up. It does take a bit of getting use to but I couldn't live without it now. They also have a Sinu-cleanse squeeze bottle type that some people find easier to use. The key is to use distiller/purified water if your water source isn't treated and make sure that it is WARM/body temp NOT COLD. If it is cold you will feel like you are drowning, and if you don't use the salt solution it will burn. It will clean the pollen and dust from your sinus' and get rid of excess mucus plus the salt will help to reduce the swelling of your nasal passages. Google a utube video on how to use it if you are unsure of proper technique.

You've come in disparaging a group of people and then show outrage that they're aren't doing what you want. Be kind, courteous, respectful and just generally NOT A DICK and you'll find that we're all pretty easy to get along with. And we'll listen to what you have to say.

261 So Detroit adds 100 million to their debt by giving water to those who can't pay for it even though they are in snow heavy area of the country? Good job. Posted by: Darth Randall at March 31, 2014 10:46 PM (6n332) The article is a little wacky, in that Detroit's water system also supplies 127 communities in Southeast Michigan with water. That includes the counties with wealthy residents. The rates charged to non Detroit residents is different because once the water reaches the counties, they have their own pumping stations, etc. to continue sending the water on it's way. So I have to assume the article means Detroit residents when it says half are in arrears. Water bills for Detroit residents begin at $90 based on 1000 cubic feet of water usage. The corruption in the city water department is on par with the rest of the Detroit. Even more laughable was that the dpartment was under federal supervision for a decade or so due to corruption and yet no one caught the continuing lack of accounting. It wasn't until the bankruptcy that anyone even noticed that the department still had a horseshoer that received $56,000 a year. http://www.michigancapitolconfidential.com/17404

299 Author Richard Miniter and his co-author Scott Mcwen look at the attacks from the perspective of NAVY Seals who were there in their book "Eyes On Target: Inside Stories from the Brotherhood of the U.S. Navy SEALs." Both men say the State Department had three separate warnings that were ignored in the days leading up to the Benghazi attacks. "There were intelligence reports that were circulating inside the State Department, inside the Pentagon, in the months prior to the Benghazi attack predicting a massive al-Qaida buildup in Benghazi," according to Miniter, "showing that al-Qaida had headquartered its social media unit in Benghazi less than a mile from the U.S. diplomatic compound there, where the ambassador ultimately died." He said the book also documents a two-day rally that al-Qaida conducted in downtown Benghazi involving "hundreds of fighters, armored trucks with machine guns and anti-aircraft weapons in which at the end of it, they gave a press conference and called for the death of the U.S. ambassador and all Americans in Libya." "So, the State Department certainly knew of the risk to the ambassador in the months prior to the attack in Benghazi," he said. "We also document two prior attacks against the U.S. diplomatic outpost in Benghazi. coming out before the CIA's previous acting director is due to testify again and has been accused of misleading Congress

It made our group insurance premiums go so high one year I was asked if I was sitting down before our health insurance consultant would give me our new rates, they went up over 30% for 2009. Law was effective July 2, 2007. It's also partly based on TFGCare. I can't file my taxes unless I have 1099 HC from Blue Cross to prove I have insurance. Wasn't it Teddy & McAmnesty behind amnesty in 2007(?)that we managed to kill? I think that was the year, but could be off by one or two. Now I see McAmnesty as taking Teddy's reigns, as IMHO making things worse when anyone works across party lines with MvAmnesty.

Protip: if you are a supposed "conservative", and you can be in the same room with a Kennedy on amicable terms, you probably aren't an actual conservative at all.. (The principle has wide applicability. Bush. McCain. Hatch. Schwarzenegger.)

This.  I have long said that I thought the proper way for our members to address Ted Kennedy is in unprintable words describing just how much of a low life piece of scum he was.

That anyone could speak to him civilly convinced me that they really didn't have the right attitude.

1. the architect loses money on the job.  2. all the engineers working for the architect lose money on the job.  3.  the general contractor and all the major subcontractors lose money on the job.  4.  the building has a shitload of wasted space and uses a lot of energy.  5.  the owner does not get what they paid for, even though they pay a lot of claims cuz everyone lost money on the job.  6.  there are at least 2 lawsuits filed about the job.  7.  there are warranty problems within 5 years.

626 Huh? Is this history or did it happen recently?>>

History.

Mom passed last year. The ghost sighting was linked to a specific event (another family member passing). so I took it as how she needed to deal with that. But in the end any belief that makes us better people is one to leave alone. And her impetus from the sighting was a positive so who am I to mock that.

Posted by: ParanoidGirlinSeattle at April 01, 2014 12:59 AM (RZ8pf) Watched the first episode and thought I had the DVR set to record it. Didn't. So I am two weeks behind. Is it worth trying to catch up? (1st didn't impress me all that much.)

631 The bad guy is really effed up. His vengeance, using parents who want their kids back and forcing them to do awful things to advance his agenda is really sadistic. He is clearly a genius, and a psychopath, and it is somewhat unbelievable that he has been able to get people to work for him--the other bad guys. But it does raise interesting questions of how far you would go to save your kid. And also so far the agenda isn't political as much as it is the guy wanting to get back at the CIA for ruining his life.

There are all sorts of ghosts...some are harmless, some are mischievous, and then some are malevolent.

It's not a stretch for me to believe in ghosts...

They are actual proof of life after death...and, I have seen a couple.

I've never talked to any though.

Just seen them.

If it happens again, traye...you may want to really consider calling someone who can do tests and stuff, to find out what 'type' of  ghost you may have in your house.

It's your wife so your choices of her exposure to your kid are going to be limited. A passing comment about a ghost in front of a 2 year old is inconsequential. If She tries to drive weird crap into the kids head later worry. I tend to belive women are more in touch with the spiritual. As long as she doesn't feed the kid fear don't worry about it. I wasn't looking for them...but I have seen them, twice, in the old houses I've lived in.

I lived in a pre-civil war house, that had a lot of history.

There were cold spots, footsteps walking down the hallway...then at times we could see actual figures moving around.

Then, the other was a rent house that had just been renovated...the realtor didn't tell us 'why' it had just been renovated.

A guy had just died there, when his tv exploded in a lightning strike.

I didn't get the sense that these were 'malevolent' type ghosts.

Just spirits who hadn't moved on yet.

668 Well I have to say, I never gave much of a thought about ghosts, and supernatural stuff. I always figured they made for good stories. The night my mom died proved to me how soooo wrong I was.

Like 'ette Carol, my neck was very screwed up. I had a relapse in 2011, a bad one. Not sure what i did but a nerve got pinched and screwed me up big time. The first time it blew out was in 2004, it was messing with my right arm and shoulder, and it took 3 years for 80% of the symptoms and weird shit to go away, and since then I always had to be really careful, because the reminders always seemed to be lurking just waiting for me to screw up. I would get headaches sometimes from just having my head in the wrong position. 2011 it took out the left side. 2 months later mom was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. 30 days from diagnosis to dead. It was a brutal, because I was still in deep shit, and camping out in the hospital for a month took a toll on me because it knocked me off my healing schedule, which I gladly ignored. I was getting worse, and my head was locking up where I couldn't turn it.

My mother kept telling me don't worry about her, and she was feeling bad I was having to spend time in the hospital and not doing what I needed to do. Of course I said well too bad, when you get out of here I'll deal with it and we'll both heal. Well mom didn't heal and I sat with her the last night until she passed.

When I got home that night I sat on the couch, I was in pain, my neck was real bad. At that time I had to sleep flat on my back with no pillow. It was hard to sleep that way because it was messing with my back. Some times I would roll on my side just to give my back a rest but that would last 30 seconds before the neck pain kicked in. and if I fell alseep that way I woke up in 30 minutes in real trouble. Anyway, I sat  on the couch and said I can't fall asleep here sitting up, I 'll be fucked. I don;t know why, but in  cliche way I looked up and said sorry mom, I need to rest, if you can just let me know you are ok.

Thats the last thing I remembered. I woke up on the couch 3hours later with both neck and back pain and dragged myself to bed, and I knew I would never sleep. I did my usual roll onto my side for that brief little break and passed out.

The next day I woke up and said ok here we go, time to play 90 year old man.  I went to move.... no pain anywhere, nothing. No neck problems, not a fucking trace. No pain, no creaking in the neck, no headaches, no locking, all gone.  I literally woke up with a new body. Its been 3 years and its like none of it ever happened. Mom sent her message.

678 "Surely, with immigration reform already imperiled by righty opposition, a GOPer already loathed by tea partiers wouldn't offer up the effort as a prayer to Teddy's memory. Would he?" Oh come on, those past conflicts are just water under the bridge! Besides, who else could immigrants coming here across the seas, or even just the rivers, look to in their hour of need but the memory of Ted Kennedy? Who else could be counted on to throw them a lifeline when they are drowning? Who else would come back for them time after time and never abandon them? What other name, what other legacy, could invite so many horrible, cheap jokes? "The Ted Kennedy Aqua-Alien Support Act" Truly, there is little your legacy will need as long as John McCain is right there behind it.

Not trying to explain anything away, but I had almost identical symptoms back in 2001-2002.  Consulted my regular doctor and a number of specialists, including some non-traditional therapies (chiropractic and acupuncture).  Nothing helped.  At the same time I was under a huge amount of stress because of a new group president in my business unit who was (1) a complete idiot and (2) the worst kind of crony capitalist.

After about a year, I had completed my job search and quit.  My neck problems went away immediately and have never come back.

700 390 quick, what year was Wynona's Big Brown Beaver?

It had to be 80s. I first heard it as we played it on the radio in college, left @ the end of 88.

Got a question. Since my desktop is dead and laptop aint doing so good itself, I am thinking about buying a chromebook and I can haul it around in the truck with me. I have mobile broadband and like the bigger screen, no iphone or tablet for me. Good idea or not worth it.

As  long as you don't mind having all your files stored in the cloud ( i think google gives you 100gb free storage for a year or something, then they start charging you, something like that), plus they don't run MS Office. But if you're ok with both those Chromebooks are a good inexpensive alternative to a regular laptop.

Yeah, no, kinda.

I can fix the desktop, the laptop aint that bad, and hauling a big ass laptop around in a pickup sucks when you only need it once in awhile. So, I wondered if anyone that had one liked `em.

708 There's an app called "cloud on" (i think) that runs office. I just put it n my phone yesterday, so haven't tried to use anything yet. Don't chromebooks run apps?

724 Good morning all you slack jawed cross-eyed fappers.

No major ammo alerts throughout the day and evening.
Starting point for ready availability of .22lr still is around the .12-.14 per round.
.223 BTFMJ in brass cases is consistently around .37 per round.
9mm is level and steady at .26 per rnd.

Went through around 100 rounds of CCI Standard velocity round nose lead with Mrs VIA's dedicated upper yesterday just for grins and giggles.
Lots of talk on the intertubes about .22 in an AR configuration not behaving well.
But, this is now over a thousand rounds through her CMMG, and in the last 700 rounds, not a single failure to make the noise come out the end,and a hole show up on the paper.

I followed everything in this link about how to get your stuff running smoothly, and it has really paid off.

725 Well, it's 6 am. Ok, it was 6 am minutes ago. Wait, it will be 6 am somewhere soon because time is relative you see. It's all arbitrary. So it can be any time you want, and you can never be late unless you want to be late.

Time is like the law in some ways. It can be anything you want, when you want it. So live life and enjoy yourself.

730 FDA Orders Recall of Placebos Because They May Work Recycled 'humor' from days ago. I think Ben and Vic both did it. ha. ha. First, nothing that funny about tainted goods, no matter if it's homeopathy, Big Pharm, or dog food from China, and no matter how you want to laugh at supposed irony. Second, for whatever anecdotal experience is worth, I've had more complications from standard medical practices, seen more damage done, and far less cure, than I've seen with homeopathy. I'm from Missouri (or close to) but what I've seen is persuasive that more is going on than mere placebo. Especially if going by cost-effectiveness!! Some may just blindly "believe in" their med choices. Some of us choose to be guinea pigs, you're welcome. I know the risks. I want the truth. Our freedom to be dumb, right? Let those who do no beer or coffee cast stones. One of my big concerns is that, as with the war on users of some substances, self-proclaimed 'conservatives' who snark at homeopathy will stand around chucking with hands in their pockets when the government starts trying to squash homeopathy for the sake of Big Pharm. "And then they fame for me." Homeopathy has the same problem as liberty. They sound too much, respectively, like homo and lib. /screed
