Of Handguns and Chcolate - [Niedermeyer's Dead Horse]
— Open Blogger

ICYMI, State Senator Nathan Dahm, appeared on Piers Morgan's show a few nights ago. Dahm, as you may recall, has sponsored the Piers Morgan Constitutional Right to Keep and Bear Arms Without Infringement Act bill in his home state of Oklahoma.

Catchy title, eh?

Well, Piers being Piers, he set out to make Dahm look the fool and Dahm, somehow, managed to make it through the interview without bursting into hysterical laughter or ever raising his voice. The majority of the interview can be found at You Tube but the real gem can be found in the video clip below wherein Piers attempts to analogize gun control to Kinder Eggs. It goes about as well as you might imagine.

I think Piers is trying to argue that if even a chocolate egg can be deemed hazardous to society, why aren't guns. Again, I think that's what he's trying to say but, frankly, it was such a convoluted piece of word-vomit I'm not really sure at all. No matter his point, he seems clearly okay with the idea that the federal government should be in the business of protecting us from ourselves.

My guess: He'd be happy banning the toys in Cracker Jacks and cereal boxes as well.

So.... Dahm. What are your thoughts about that guy?

Also, open thread.

28 I don't understand why Piers Morgan came to the USA if he doesn't like guns so much.  Isn't that like moving to France but not liking wine, or moving to Japan and not liking bizarre vending machines, or moving to Peruvia and not liking cuckoo clocks and Viking-rape?

I get that the main attraction for Piers is that the press over here didn't cover much of his phone-hacking scandal, but surely there are other countries that could apply to.

Posted by: The Lost Dutchman at January 30, 2014 08:12 AM (9F2c1)

29 MORGAN: Right. You realize they're illegal, not just in Oklahoma, but in the whole of America. I'm probably breaking the law just by holding one. Do you know why they're illegal? DAHM: Because the government has interfered and is trying to protect us from ourselves. BOOM!

130 112 Okay someone explain this Amanda Knox thing to me, did she kill someone or not? Well, so far the Italians have verified that she lived in her own home and used her own kitchen knife which was not the murder weapon. She did 4 years hard time for living in her home and cooking. Oh, and the real murderer confessed years ago and is in jail for the murder, so there's that. The poor kid initially lied to the cops about her whereabouts, because she was smoking hash with her Italian boyfriend at the time of the murder, and she didn't want to get them both expelled and herself deported. For that, her life was ruined for 4 years and now they're back for more.

Which probably means he's a racist, and hates Cheerios, especially the mixed-race kind. 2 - he was onto PM's strategy in a millisecond, and before the words were even out of that dullard's mouth, Dahm had already stomped him with 'government not minding their own damned business!' Checkmate Not that it's especially hard to outwit Piers Morgan, but let's see this in context. 200 IIRC, they made that to get around the car tax. Since it was only three-wheeled, it wasn't technically a car but a "motorcycle" and therefore taxed differently. According to all the lefties I know, misclassifying a vehicle to get around gov't regulation is the WORST THING EVER! (re: SUVs are trucks for EPA standards)

The only other people on the ferry were a couple that looked to be in their 90s on another deck. Finally, she told them she was a DA and the men just literally got up and walked away from her. Judging by the italian weird justice system, prosecutors have the power to have anyone arrested with no evidence at all.

Fleming of the Chicago Anti-Eviction Campaign said, “This state of the union was the same ol’ same ol’, a bunch of talk and rhetoric to give favor to a dying economy in America–and the reason why our economy is dying is the President’s approach is always to place blame…It’s not the 1 percent problem, it’s not the 99 percent problem, it’s an American problem, and the problem is patronage, nepotism and cronyism. Joe Watkins, Founder of V.O.T.E. (Voices of the Ex-Offender) asked how raising the minimum wage was “going to help people who don’t have any jobs right now.” Watkins remarked that despite holding a graduate’s degree, he has been unemployed for four years. But perhaps the biggest slam was when Mark Carter, also of V.O.T.E., suggested that black Americans would be better off if the President would cut his presidency short and “just quit.” Carter direct his comments to the President, saying, “if this is what you call helping us, then just stop helping us.”

257 Jails should be bad, just need to make sure the people you send there belong there. It's complicated. The inmates outnumber the guards by a lot. For the guys who have nothing to lose, you control them by giving them perks. Otherwise the guards end up hurt or worse. When they behave badly, then you take away their TV to start. That alone is a big motivator. It's a very old argument: "what is the purpose of jail?" Possible answers: correction, containment, punishment, or something else. We know how to mentally break people. If that's your goal you're going to have a hard time proselyting it.

266 MONTREAL — A woman in her 30s is dead after her headscarf and hair became caught in a subway-station escalator.

A bystander found the woman lying at the base of the escalator at Fabre metro station in east-end Montreal around 9:15 a.m.

He alerted transit workers, who called police.

When first responders arrived, the woman was unresponsive.

"We tried to perform resuscitation on site, but we weren't able to save her," paramedic Bob Lamle told QMI Agency.

The exact circumstances of the woman's death weren't immediately clear, but Montreal police spokesman Jean-Pierre Brabant said it appeared "her headscarf and her hair got stuck in the escalator."

In his version, the toy is cased in a plastic capsule with a thick ridge that separates the two hollow chocolate halves. For American regulators, the ridge, which is visible when the foil covering the sweet comes off, serves the purpose of warning children that there is something hidden inside the chocolate. As an added precaution, the toys are also larger than the ones found inside foreign versions, according to ABC News. But a gun ban will work.

He's a Republican male who, apparently, is not properly Republican pink, even. Who knows what he thinks, as a right-winger, about bi-racial Cheerios ads?!? Here: http://www.okhouse.gov/District.aspx?District=62 From the news links on that page: He has introduced "legislation to make permanent the one percent tax on horizontal drilling, ensuring the energy industry continues to thrive in Oklahoma." A different article about Gov Mary Fallin (not really female because she's R) signing a bill aimed at promoting marriage and fighting poverty, quotes him: "Countless studies have shown a stable, two-parent household is important for the growth and stability of children. And the economic results are striking – child poverty rates shoot through the roof when marriages end. I believe this measure will work toward turning that tide and laying the groundwork for a more positive environment for families in Oklahoma while providing stability children need to grow into successful adults." 279 Let me explain this to the almighty Progressive. People have a right to defend themselves. Now why is there the knee jerk response from gun lovers of no negotiation to controls. Because at the highest levels twenty years ago Brady flat out went on a crusade backed by the Clintons against firearms. They flat out said in the push that the end goal was elimination of all guns. So when you have that mentality no one on our side is even going to listen to you. You want reason Mr Progressive? Stop the anti reason. We have the Second Amendment. Plain and simple. And as far as violence--it is ever increasing because of our moral breakdown. I know I know God forbid I bring up morals to a Progressive. You blather over and over about school shootings having nothing to do with moral breakdown--it's all the guns. Of course that doesn't explain the epidemic of the knock out game does it. The reason there is all of this violence from youth is because they are the youth you created. You told them there were no morals. That all was to be accepted. Gay marriage. Gay adoption. Rampant divorce. Eminem now raises your children. No responsibility for behavior. Don't use the red ink on test papers--it may be an angry color. Don't keep score on the grade school baseball outings, someone might have to feel the emotion of losing. You Mr Progressive did this in your thirty years of propagated anti reason. You created the monsters of youth. And now they run the countryside don't they? People, the last action before tyranny slides in is to disarm the population. If you would like to live under a European style tyrant then keep believing you don't have the right to firearms. Because my fiction wasn't a grand theory---it was based on imprisoned nations that were weak knee'd like the Progressives here. But hear this almighty Progressive. You will not take our Second Amendment. Do you know why? Because the hands of Patriots are still warm. Charles Hurst. Author of THE SECOND FALL. An offbeat story of Armageddon. And creator of THE RUNNINGWOLF EZINE
