Octo-Mom Kinda Weird
— Ace

She's not married and already had six kids. Wanting "just one more girl," she implanted eight fertilized embryos and all went to term.

So now she's got fourteen kids.

Incidentally, I notice that Feministing hasn't commented on this at all, and I went back through five dreary pages of posts. Their usual joke -- "It's a vagina, not a clown car" -- is MIA. They tend to do this: There is no male villain in the story they can yell at about this, so it's not a story as far as they're concerned. If she'd had a husband, they would have posted about this twenty five times by now.

Furthermore, this was this woman's choice, and women's choices can never be questioned.

So they just ignore it.

They did the same thing, as far as I can tell, with the alleged virgin selling her purported virginity in a confirmed whorehouse. I looked at the time, because I was curious which wildly-disproportionate response they would arbitrarily choose -- wildly praising her for sticking it to the patriarchy, or savaging her for allowing herself to be "programmed" by the patriarchy's heteronormative regime -- but they seem to have skipped that one, too.

Those are the feminists only two possible reactions -- wild praise and savaging -- and often it seems like the decide on the flip of a coin which to indulge in. An ad featuring breasts gets savaged; an ad making cheeky references to "beavers" get praised. What exactly is the criteria by which such disparate reactions are decided?

Almost none at all, it seems. But damnit, they're going to have an opinion on anything involving pooter or tits and either way it's going to be a hyperbolic one.

But in these two cases, I guess the coin refused to flip and simply stood on its edge. The Sisterhood of Solidarity, apparently unable to reach a Group Consensus as to whether Extreme Reaction A or Extreme Reaction B was called for, simply passed altogether.

2 The messed up thing (OK, one of the messed up things) is she has 14 kids under the age of 7! And they're all biological!

Wouldn't it be lovely, if, by some stroke of fate--however impossibly unlikely--the three million dollar whore got knocked up on her first try, and came up with octuplets, and everybody on eBay knew, so she didn't have any "privacy" about her "decision" at all?

I mean, it would make for some interesting posts and threads. And fantasies.

4 As a conservative female who no never even got Feminist Action  Alerts from the Sisters of Solidarity, I have mixed feelings about this.

I suppose I have no problem with her re-populating her neighborhood if....
.....she can pay for all these kids herself rather than living off my tax dollar.

However... I find it disturbing that there is no father in the picture, which, IMHO is a necessary part of any child's life.

I also suspect that she will end up on the Discovery Health channel with a new series entitled "The Daily Adventures of Octo-Mom." All her expenses will be paid for by the network, she'll end up doing endorsements, the talk show circuit, pen a few books, and in the meantime, the tv crew/production assistants will raise her children.

However, the tv crew /production assistants may end up being more responsible faux parents.

7 shibumi, I believe the reason they don't comment is that it would force them to write a nuanced/uncertain sort of opinion like yours. They far prefer the shrill, certain shrieking.

9 Normally I'm against any kind of child planning policy along the line of the Chi-coms. But in all seriousness the doctors should have told her six children was already enough and refused to do invitro/implants/whatever medical thingy they do to make that happen.

Judging from the news articles I have been seeing on Lucianne, this woman is weapons-grade crazy, and the grandparents do not seem far behind.

It is like one of those egg-inside-an-egg-inside-an-egg Russian thingermajiggies: Every new article reveals some new bit o'lunacy.

Your tax dollars at work.

CBS News has learned that the family of the octuplets born this week outside Los Angeles filed for bankruptcy and abandoned a home a little over a year-and-a-half ago.

Early Show national correspondent Hattie Kauffman says the mother is in her mid-thirties and lives with her parents.

There's been no mention of the octuplets' father, Kauffman observes.

The grandfather, she adds, is apparently going to head back to his native Iraq to earn money for the growing family. He told CBS News he's a former Iraqi military man.

Another eight little jihadis. While you wait for our kleptocratic government to quit bribing itself, you might want to spend some time at the shooting range.

21 Just a little on the facts here. Embryos are not "implanted" in the procedure. They are transferred. If they implant, then they grow. If not, then they do not. Implantation is a biological process, not something that's controlled by the doctor. As a veteran of IVF, these are my questions: 1) This woman is obviously fertile. Why was she cleared for IVF? Patients in legitimate programs must demonstrate that they have a medical need (as the procedure is risky). 2) If this doctor transferred EIGHT fertilized embryos, then he should be imprisoned. Here's why: fertilized embryos, after transfer, can divide. You can transfer ONE embryo and end up with multiples (this happened to a woman in the Washington DC area within the last year. She transferred one embryo, which divided into twins and then one of those divided again. She had identical triplets from a single embryo. WHO IS THIS DOCTOR AND DOES HE HAVE A LICENSE? IF HE DOES, IT NEEDS TO BE YANKED NOW. 3) Even doctors who take more risk rarely transfer more than four embryos because of the risk of multiples. WHY DID THIS CLOWN TRANSFER SO MANY? In doing so, he put his woman's life at risk, not to mention the babies. 4) WHO'S PAYING FOR THIS? I've never heard of insurance paying for elective IVF--I've never heard of elective IVF--so who is footing the bill? FYI, the drugs alone cost about $500 PER DAY. 5) WHO'S PAYING THE TAB FOR THE BABIES' NICU CARE? Someone needs to go to jail for this.

According to The Times (UK), Octo-mom is asking $2 million from Oprah Winfrey to appear on her show in order to pay child care costs.

Now it will be time for them to claim they need some bail out money.  Obviously they were conned into a sub prime mortgage!

These are the kind of fucker that will be getting your money!!

That feministing site scares the batcrap out of me. Probably because I didn't pick up on the stupid name right away, and now think "Femin-sting." Which for some reason makes me think of a huge black scorpion wearing tacky rhinestone glasses that will spear me for being a gender-traitor.

And no, I'm not half-backed like Obama's bro. More like a quarter.

27 She probably had some Third World doctor do the IVF. Welfare scam / Jizya? Surrogate deal / cashing in on fame? It's still costing the taxpayers money. The 33-year-old woman is collecting student financial aid and welfare now. As has already been pointed out, her father is "Palesetinian," works as a truck driver and goes back and forth to Iraq as a contracted interpreter. There is a secret compound supposedly, because CA law limits how many people can legally occupy 1500 sq ft. at one time.

29 It's unethical to implant more than 2 eggs in a woman under 35 and more than 4 in a woman over 35. Somebunny has some splainin' to do.

If there's no mental illness, then what? Just doesn't compute, according to my plumbing.

Cut the Octo Mom some slack, fellow Americans.

There's maybe one of 2 things going on here, and we Americans have elected officials and worshipped entertainment forms that encourage such behaviors.

If she can get $$$ from the government to be a pro babymaker, it's our faults for helping to make this possible.

And who can blame her if she's attempting to use her "talents" to make a bit of money to support herself and her family?  How is what she's doing in principle any different that the whorish bimbos you men pay to jerk off in front of in glossy mags?  She's practicing capitalism and fulfilling an entertainment void. . .  kind of like the grown men making big bucks to tackle one another tonight on TV.

Well, just some different ways to think about it.  In this light, we look alot like Rome.

38 Your dollars at work! All the media whores, like the mother, will certainly know how to put those dollars to good use, their own. The children are "canon fodder" and will eventually become the responsibility of the state, I can bet on it. Nadja hopes that people will feel sorry for the kids and will eventually cough up the money. I say, part of the money she does get goes to pay the hospital bills and all the rest of the money she has to guarantee, goes to the care and education of the children. BTW, who will want to listen to this woman "counsel" anyone? Jesus God, what have we come to to tolerate and applaud this behavior!

This all posible thanks to the Hipocrats I mean Democrats.
