Obama's Stupid Speech Thread
— Ace

He'll be speaking soon. Once again, he'll explain to us how something he defended as an essential part of his family is now no longer so, and all his previous defenses are retracted, and you shouldn't ask about it anymore, and we really should begin having that Great National Discussion on Race, specifically, Won't It Be Great To Elect a Black Guy?, and etc.

1 What's the over/under on how many times he says 'distraction' or some variation of it?

Posted by: DrewM. at May 31, 2008 02:47 PM (hlYel)

2 It's amazing. He and his supporters are always yammering about healing and how we have to address race when the truth is  that he is the most racially divisive candidate and they can never shut up about race.

10 I hope it goes like that:

I know it came as a shocker to some of you to find out i am an idiot who was a part of a hate mongering community for 20 and so years. Believe me - i was shocked as well.

But let me tell you something - the second i realized i was in fact a race obsessed, hate filled jerk - i decided to run for president and to Heal our Nation's wounds by Hope and Change.

Now, as i have been exposed as a complete idiot bordering minor retardation, i will continue to run my campaign focusing on the issues that really matter - and do not involve any use of long term memory, basic logic and having educated opinions. Which should be no problem since i'm running as a Democrat already.

Can anyone else remember a major candidate who had to quit his church after decades of attendance?

Seriously I'm past worrying about Obama's judgement, and now I wonder at his lack of self-awareness. I suspect he doesn't even know how out of the mainstream he and his church is. He's like a hothouse flower that's never been out of the greenhouse.

actually, ace misses the point entirely.

He'll be resigning for the Good of All the Good People who Attend Trinity UCC.  Barack's a selfless guy, yo.

By His {selfless} action, Trinity UCC can return its focus to the important Christian-y things it does in the community, without the scrutiny of Bitter Gun Clinging Red Neck, Beer Swilling Yahoos.

It's sort of like Reagan addressing the question about why he did not attend services weekly.  Reagan responded that he, having been shot at successfully already, thought it in the best interests of the congregation if he weren't there, especially if the main reason he were there was to to satisfy some nitwit reporter's objection.

Five quatloos says that Barack mentions Ronald Reagan by name during his talk.

34 My fellow Americans, supporters, and opponents. After a long and difficult time I have reached a decision to inform you about a disability I have. I have hid this disability because it is a source of shame to me but now I see that hiding it has caused me greater embarrassment. So tonight I would like to explain a reason why I have only today decided to leave the church I have attended for the past 20 years.

Despite the presence of enormous ears I have a hearing problem. For many years it has caused me shame so I sought to cover it up as best as I could. Now, I realize a hearing problem shouldn't be such a embarrassment, but I am human and, as humans are complex creatures, we sometimes allow our irrational part to get the better of us.

My hearing condition is responsible for why Rev. White's sermons did not seem as controversial to me until they were recently given to me in written form. When the Rev. had said that the government had given black people AIDS, I was sure that he said the government had given black people eggs.

When he said "God Damn America," I had heard "Dogs and America" which doesn't make much sense but really, I mean, does the Bible make much sense anyway?

So there I was, just at the church for appear...I mean in the spirit of community fellowship, and it appeared that I approved of such people and their hateful message. I am truly sorry that my deafness has caused a division between me and the goodwill of the American people. And with that I hope that we can get back to the hard work of changing America to be the great country we want it to be. Hope. Change. Yes we can. All hail Satan. Good night.

I heard a lady from Cicago on some talk radio program (sorry can't be more specific) say that TUCC is the place that the power players in Chicago go to network.  And look how far Obama got by going there. I don't think that he believes all of the tripe that gets spewed out of that place but I do believe that he's a social climber. A comparison could be made (I won't waste our time doing it-you morons can figure it out) that Scott McClellan and Obama have much in common in that respect. Just a thought.

Obama is shocked...shocked that these terrible things were being said in his church....and, and, and, those people...they looked like they were enjoying it all....

Why, he had no idea that there were those kinds of things being felt and spoken there.  After all, he only attended the church briefly...for 20 years, was married there, and worst of all exposed his young children to this vile hatred.....

What a pusillanimous, palavering, popinjay!!!

He knew darn well what the church's dogma was.  He knew darn well what revs. Wright and Moss and Phleger were all about.  Not only was it politically expedient for him to belong to trinity; it's warped, Marxist, form of Christianity, black liberation theology, conformed well to his red diaper baby upbringing as well as appealing to the ideals inculcated by his ultra left wing academic experience.

Oddly enough, this episode exposes Obama for the hypocritical, usurpacious, fair weathered friend type of individual he really is.  His proclamation of being a new kind of politician practicing a whole new brand of politicks is pure poppycock!

The only thing remotely revolutionary about his campaign, besides the Marxist idealism exhibit by his Che Guevara loving campaign workers, is his campaign's brilliant use of the internet to produce at times what appear to be Orwellian mental lockstep and an ominous cult of personality.  Otherwise, it is the traditional, opportunistic politics of useful friendships and sordid cloakroom pay-offs.

Most of the mainstream media will herald this as a "bold" move that will afford Obama a "fresh" start, unencumbered by any stigma of radical racist associations.  In the usual fashion, they will declare that "the debate is over" and "the matter is closed".  Any attempt to question him about his 20 years there will be dismissed as "dwelling on the past" or the perfunctory "distraction from the important issues".

What's really important is that if the tables were turned, and Maverick had sat idly by listening to the pontifications of the grand vizier of the KKK, or some other white supremacist, he would have been TOAST long ago.  Not only do the mainstream media tolerate reverse racism, most outlets are actively engaged in trying to get Obama elected.  I wonder if they really believe in him, or are they emulating the head of the Illinois state legislature; the man who decided he would play king maker and get Obama elected to the US senate.  Exit question; are the mainstream media wanna-be king makers or simply useful idiots-you decide.............

49 Stinky, you're killin' me over here. But I can't wait to see the High Priestess of the Church of Satan visit Denver this summer. This jug-eared halfwit prick Obastard has to be the most arrogant politician ever to defile the American scene since LBJ or Nixon. I know many think McCain is pretty full of himself, but Barry is a hundredweight of prick stuffed in a one-prick body. It's OUR fault poor Barry has to "leave" his "church." All the copious evidence, easily available in printed or electronic form, showing the character of TUCC, is just too subtle for our non-black, simple minds to comprehend. It's we who don't understand. His church is so wonderful and honorable, it would be a crime to have America look at it closely. Silly me, I would have thought Barry could take the opportunity to set his spiritual home of twenty years as an example, and by so doing, generate charity and donations to benefit his church. After all, since his church is truly a beacon of Christian virtue, there must be 100 times the evidence, sermons, video, audio, and everything else out there that would counteract the "snippets" we've seen for months. I'm sure we'll find it. Someday. But Barry is busy. Only Barry is doing the selfless, charitable thing, of course. All in the service of putting himself into the most powerful State position on Earth. So noble, so wise. Such a venal douchenozzle.

Poor Obama--he's been driven from his church home of 20 plus years by a pack of baying hounds.  How will he find spiritual solace now.  I ask you what other Presidential Candidate in our time has been forced to give up his church affiliation?

And more in sorrow than in anger the Reverend Jeremiah Wright--beloved spiritual adviser to many in Chicago, a master purveyor of good works and deeds--will be forced to forgive Obama, for Obama is just doing what a politician has to do.

And oh yes, after another six months of wandering in the Wilderness --and getting his ass kicked in the general election--Obama will be able to return to the arms of Trinity United Church and shall be forgiven--just as the Prodigal Son has returned.   (Throw in a few more oratorical flourishes--the Reverend Pfleger would be good at it.)

I'm going to gag if I have to write anymore of this crapola.   If I believed that the Obamessiah would be cured and free of all his shady background problems simply by throwing Trinity United under the campaign bus, I'd be as dumb as Olberman--and would have two thrills running up my leg--in short, I'd be a libtard.  Nice Try Obamessiah, but you didn't get this convert.

My grandfather was a Lutheran minister for 40 years. Back in the early 50's he was the pastor for an all white church in a small town in South central Texas. He had 6 kids and certainly he wasn't in it for the money.

One Sunday a group of black folks (migrant pickers) showed up and wanted to worship. The white folks wouldn't let them in. My grandfather came down from the altar and told the men who would not let them in that he would quit (he had leverage-the congregation had a hard time getting a pastor to take the job) if they didn't let those people in. The compromise was that the blacks had to sit in the choir section-at the back of the church by the organ.

If I ever walked into a Lutheran church and heard the HATRED that Wright and Pfleger spewed from the holy pulpit, there would be a fight. Pfleger is a disgrace to the Catholic Church. Pfleger isn't a Catholic priest-he's a Nation of Islam priest, the Catholics just pay his room and board.

66 I was indifferent to this ass prior to this. No way I would vote for him but his offenses were chiefly of that of being a crass inexperienced Dem pol. After today I will do everything in my power to insure the only Catholic vote he gets will be from the soon to be former pastor of Saint Sabina's, Pfleger.

For him to compare the rantings of some racist nut job on a "theology" that was invented 40 years ago to the teachings of a billion member church with 2000 years of tradition to back it up is just plain disgusting. Liberation theology, no matter what flavor, was discredited years ago. No serious theologian outside of a few very liberal/communist leaning seminaries give it any credence whatsoever and it doesn't represent the teaching of even a large percentage of majority AA churches never mind Christianity in general.

Why he thinks comparing his sufferings vis a vis his relationship with Trinity and the pathetic attempts of RC politicians to justify their duplicitous positions regarding the RC church means anything I don't know. The pro abortion/pro gay RC pols don't have a leg to stand on religiously and they know it.
If he didn't buy the crap Wright was dishing out he should have left, but he's never going to convince a large number of people it isn't crap, because it is.
No amount of good works can make up for bad theology, you either work to change it or kick the dust from your shoes. Those are your choices.

114 Liebs won because Lamont was a one trick pony (antiwar), like Obama, and because Liebs is beloved here. People in CT vote for incumbents no matter what party unless the do something really stupid. Shays(R) won reelection in 2006 despite it being a Dem year with a very popular and very well funded woman opponent for his congressional seat. In my home town there was a state senator who just retired after 40 some odd years. He was reelected time and again despite the fact that he hadn't come up with a bill of his own in over 20 years.
There really isn't much difference between the dems and repubs here, especially on social issues.

CT used to be in play nationally but people have been leaving in droves for a long time now. We lost a congressional seat in the last census. Population has barely been growing and that's chiefly all down near the New York border in the Stamford area because so many people move from NY to Fairfield County to avoid the outrageous taxes in NY. Half the people you see on the news every night live here if they work in NY. Those people tend to vote Dem.

I doubt CT would go against a Dem nominee but if any one could make them do it, it would be Obama. There are a lot of seniors here too which could go for McCain. A lot of independents too but they are independent because it's cool, not because they dislike either party.

120 I don't know how upset the RC talking heads will be but they should be if they think about what Obama said. His position is that he finds much of what Trinity and Wright teach as despicable but they do much good and no one really agrees with everything their pastor says, so it's okay to continue to support them. That is not even remotely what the public position of even the most liberal RC politicians is. Liberal RC politicians maintain that personally and religiously the teachings are right and they agree with the church and stand by it but since we have a "separation of church and state" religious views should not be enshrined into law and politicians have an obligation to uphold this standard and that it is wrong to expect them to do otherwise, penalize them religiously for it,  encourage Catholics to vote against this position or suggest that it is wrong to support politicians who hold to that idea.
If they were not already in the tank for Obama I'm sure many of the RC Dems would be out condemning him now for suggesting they only publicly pay lip service to the church, despite that being completely true. I can't wait to see how Casey in PA explains his support of Obama after that press conference.

Obama's attitude is very anti-religious, especially "organized" religion. I'm sure if really pressed he would describe himself as merely spiritual. This is a popular position now a days but it's an extremely odd one for a person who keeps describing himself as a "devout Christian". Just exactly what is he so devout about if not religion?

Obama keeps going on about how he dislikes labels like liberal or how wrong it is when people try to define him. No one else gets to say what his "change" is, or his "hope". No one gets to define him but anyone who meets him half way and says "fine then at least define yourself and your positions for us" is divisive and distracting. It's all just a sick loop to keeping people spinning long enough for the election to pass because it's the Dems year. But if he tries to keep this up people will be too damn dizzy to get up and vote for him come November.

134 May 2006: When Meeks ran as an Independent for governor of Illinois, he announced: “Come on with me, white churches. Call me and tell me to run for governor. You’ll have [Republican nominee], who believes in abortion and gay rights and [Democratic Gov.], who believes in abortion and gay rights. Theologically, politically, for the white conservative voter, I’m their guy. I have their philosophy. 7” October 2006: Meeks’ church sponsored a “Halloween fright night” which “consigned to the flames of hell two mincing young men wearing body glitter who were supposed to be homosexuals.”8 February 2007: A newsletter by the SOUTHERN POVERTY LAW CENTER (SPLC) included Meeks in its “Top Ten leading black religious voices in the anti-gay movement.” According to their profile:9 “Last year, he ran for governor as a virtual single-issue candidate, drawing national support from Christian fundamentalists by boldly vowing to fight marriage equality at every turn.” Despite his virulent anti-gay stance, in June 2002, Meeks invited accused sex offender R. Kelly to sing at his church’s kindergarten shortly after the singer was released on bond for child pornography. Typically brave behavior from Barry: Jan 2005: During the critical moments when the Illinois General Assembly passed a bill to prevent LGBT discrimination, Meeks actively campaigned against the measure - and then delivered his vote: Nay. Obama was apparently unable, unwilling or uninterested in lobbying Meeks to do otherwise – even to vote “present” on the measure. The bill would have failed had it received one less vote. But Barry wouldn’t be comfortable in lots of Roman Catholic Churches because they are so intolerant toward homosexuals. One more time: In April 2004, Barack Obama told a reporter from the Chicago Sun-Times that he had three spiritual mentors or counselors: Jeremiah Wright, James Meeks, and Father Michael Pfleger-for a change of pace, a white Catholic preacher who has a close personal feeling for the man he calls (as does Obama) Minister Farrakhan. funky chicken on June 1, 2008 at 10:39 AM
