Obama To Woman Whose Husband Can't Find a Job: You're Kind of a Liar, Aren't You?
— Ace

She says her husband, an engineer, can't find a job.

Obama says he finds that "interesting" (with the contextual gloss: dubious), because someone who once did a study on people who have real jobs told him there's a big demand for engineers.

I don't think I'm overreading. I can't make the charge stick, but when Obama says "Well that's interesting," I do think he's saying "I find that unlikely."

Ever suspect someone's lying and get him to commit to a story? And then challenge him with a sentence of the type, "Well that's interesting because [fact which undermines the story]"?

In addition, our resident genius referred to ex-Soviet Republic of Georgia as "Russia," which was especially stupid, given that he was supposed to be celebrating the twenty year anniversary of Georgia's independence from Russia.

Barack Hussein Obama

You lie.

More accurately, though, this is just another example that Barack Obama wouldn't know a good economy if he'd inherited it.

He talked about how domestic candidates are often shut out of serious consideration by the job description (which has been crafted to disqualify all but the H1-B holders that the hiring agency wants to place).

So you get guys that are 10-15 year semiconductor engineering vets who can't get a job because the fix is in for a three-year engineer from Bangalore who works for 1/3-1/2 the price.

48 Obama IS a congenital liar. He is physically unable to open his pie-hole without a lie vomiting forth to flop on the ground and give off a putrid odor.

There is a demand for Engineers in a lot of fields, but not all fields. For example, I would say civil engineers are sucking hind tit right now because there isn't a lot of construction going on. I don't know about an engineer specializing in semi-conductors.  I do know about mechanical and electrical engineers. There is a damn good demand for them at Nuke plants.

But what Obama the liar is not saying is that this visa program he is talking about is payback to cronies. As long as we can bring in a flood of engineers from India (as an example) we can keep wages lower. But mostly this is for ALL trades.

Manufacturers have ALWAYS been in favor of liberal immigration policies and open borders. It keep wages down for everyone.

Yeah I considered the semi road at one point. Happy I didn't go that direction. Though my estimate was the US would remain on top (Barring a major breakthrough) until about 2020 at which point we would decline and largely outsource the production of uPs. Happy I didn't at this point.

Despite the fact that it's quite obvious Obama hates Bo and only got the poor dog because everyone was asking, "So, what's the presidential pet going to be?"

Yes I know I am automatically an anti immigrant racist for daring to mention such a thing. I reallt think shit is going to have to get alot worse for people to take the neccesary actions to fix our economy.

95 First: "manufacturing" is not "engineering."

Second: they're from Fort Worth- there's a good chance he was down-sized from Texas Instruments.

Every Semi manufacturer has to have a semi engineer set up and maintain a new line. Top shelf semi lines are so sensitive they need constant engineer attention to keep them up. We are still #1 at being able to produce high quality semis there is just less demand for stuff that ONLY we can build. Calculator chips can easily be made overseas. So you are probably right. Intel and AMD aren't looking at gearing up any major new lines; they are sitting on established designs and densities. Hell how long has the I7 been the stuff now since '08? They just re-released the I5? All they have planned is more Core I7 and I5 Yeah not a lot of action if your industry leader can't be bothered to introduce an upgrade. That's pretty much as sluggish as the industry has ever been.

Because the economy sucks.  Commander Clusterfuck refuses to see that companies are going to stop advancing and producing when they have so much uncertainty.  I mean, it was only a few years ago that Intel and AMD were releasing new chips every 6 to 8 months.

Now, there's no point because sales are down, employment is down, demand is down....and there's NO light at the end of the tunnel.  Building a better mousetrap right now is not cost effective.

107 My employer laidoff some 200 employees, most of them engineers, two weeks ago.

Back in the 70's, there was a long running argument about whether there was a shortage of engineers, since many unemployed engineers found their claims hard to handle.
When all the smoke and dust settled, it turned out there there was a shortage of engineers with the "exact requirements" for the available jobs, but that less than 6 weeks training for those without the "exact requirements" would have filled 90% of the available positions.

You lie.

...except, of course, regarding his own nativity (snark), or regarding any promise to never detain US Citizens unconstitutionally while signing into law the neoconservative National Defense Authorization Act. After all, given Holder's abuses as "legitimate" precedence, and precedence taking priority to constructionist law enforcement, perjury depends on what malleable state of mind might (not) exist while under oath. Therefore, no longer can be proven such a thing as a lie. Those require re-education who would claim that Obama's deceits are lies.

Is this questioning woman's husband actually an unemployed engineer in Ft. Worth; and under what circumstances was he laid off that would influence his 4-year unemployed work status?

An imported work force is the other side of outsourcing. Did this woman discredit Gov. Perry's advertisements that Texans aren't unemployed because Rick Perry encourages big business with tax credits and opportunism for foreign legal guest workers (lower wages)? Not only is Texas a "right to work" state, cutting out unions from advancing safety for labor (reference TX bad statistics on construction deaths ignoring regulations), the policy favors imported workers and deregulation. Displacing employed "good job" (management position?) experienced American engineers (middle aged) with newly recruited non-US-citizens is a work place situation encouraged and even produced by neoconservative Republicans, Utah Sen. Hatch for instance, and those candidates hand picked and backed by Wall Street, whether named Obama or obamalite Romney.

The reason most people don't get this is because most people ran away from any science class more complicated than Astronomy 1 or Geology 1.

I blame the 1960s, and by extension all of the baby boomers.

169 One of Obama's first acts as POTUS was simultaneously addressing all American school children and teens, being touted the "great educator" as if a constitutional law scholar, as if having his guest presentation for ACORN equated to a real-life School of Law professorship (better than "virtual" instructor) @ Univ./Chicago.

Who is surprised that Obama can't distinguish between Georgia and Russia (he sided with Russia's re-invasion)? After all, Obama taught that the USA consists of 57 States, none of which are sovereign but only vassals for the federal government to tax (up to 100% tax program in turn for providing citizens' needs, published doctrine by Barry's father in Kenya). Why would anyone expect Obama to change his own mind? It's the rest of the world that must conform to Obama's Will.

"Get in their faces" Obama flipping the bird in official addressed broadcast on national/global television has anal retentive bony ass thin skin when Gov.Brewer pointed in response to his agitation. As hard as Obama tried to abuse Arizona and prevent productivity (as he's infringed upon Texas' legal right to license in state), according to Brewer, Arizonans have managed putting their economic recovery into the works.

170 "but for the vast majority using little more taxing than Excel, MS Word, or video games, they haven't been given much reason to demand better than what's currently available."

The whole industry has been fighting the "its good enough" issue with hardware and software for ~10 years now.  That MS still actively supports Windows 2000 speaks volumes about the resistance that's being encountered.

If software wasn't getting exponentially slower due to CPU sucking eye candy and sloppy coding practices, an old Pentium III would in fact be plenty fast enough for the vast majority of non-gaming systems.

178 @174 Purple Avenger Case to prove your Point! My wife bought a relatively High End HP laptop. It came with Windows 7 Office Pro (I believe) and every 90 days or so during the warranty period would go belly up and refuse to boot. Each time the company where it was purchased and then HP would claim the hard drive had failed and replace it. Like clockwork 90 days after the warranty expired it croaked with the exact same symptoms. Refusing to pay for a possibly bogus repair I threw Fedora 86-X64 on it. Two years later it has never missed a beat. The software today, especially MicroShaft is bloated miss-engineered crap!

I'm an engineer, and I can write a book about outsourced engineering.  The big engineering firms (Bechtel, Fluor, KBR, etc.) are bringing in every H1B visa engineer they can get their hands on.  They're cheap, but their engineering skills are worthless, making them completely dependant on the vendors to do the engineering for them.  Once we (as a vendor) do all of the engineering, they turn it over to their purchasing group to buy whoever is cheapest.  Culturally, they don't have the same "you help me and I'll help you" attitude that Westerners have.  We're a high customer service engineering firm, and it simply isn't paying off.

Seriously, every time I get a phone call from someone with an Indian accent, I cringe.  I know that I'm about to waste a bunch of my time for for nothing.

185 World Socialists claim that NYTimes has started the "drum beat to war" with Iran.

The New York Times on Sunday published a lengthy article in its weekly magazine that sympathetically and clinically lays out the arguments of Israeli policy makers in favor of a military attack on Iran sometime this year. The article, written by Ronen Bergman, a prominent Israeli journalist who specializes in intelligence matters, features interviews with top current and former Israeli officials, including Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Vice Prime Minister Moshe Ya’alon and former Mossad chief Meir Dagan.

Bergman discusses the extensive military preparations made by Israel for an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities and reviews the covert war being waged by Israel, with US support, which has included deadly explosions at military and nuclear facilities, cyber warfare, and the assassination of five Iranian nuclear scientists since 2007, the latest occurring January 11 in the center of Tehran.

The author concludes the article by stating, “I have come to believe that Israel will indeed strike Iran in 2012.”

My brother is a site engineer.  Got laid off September 3, 2010 after 26 years with the company.

It was on my birthday and we were planning a vacation to the beach.  He hasn't been able to find a job since and only way he could get money was to retire.

So President Obama can stick it.

Treating a personal hardship story with skepticism is something new for BHO, isn't it?  Normally you'd expect him to accept whatever sob story he's told, and then use it as a jumping-off point to rhetorically blame "them" and bemoan "unequal America."

Who knows why the guy can't find a job?  Maybe he's a sh!tty engineer; smells bad; poor interview skills; too old*; won't settle.  There could be a lot of reasons.  I regard these hardluck anecdotes with the same skepticism that I have for the Buffett Secretary thing: I want full disclosure or I don't buy it.

*Yes, age discrimination in hiring is supposedly illegal.  It is also widespread, unprovable and unstoppable, so we old fart engineers just have to suck it up.

196 The dirty little secret about engineering:  Companies prefer to hire H1B house slaves (assuming they can't just off shore the jobs). Then people wonder why America doesn't produce more engineers.  If you're smart enough to make it through engineering school, you're smart enough to choose another major.

President Dipstick also believes that training people for all those green energy jobs guarantees them full employment.  If the SCOAMF ever read a newspaper--say like today's USA Today, he'd no doubt be surprised to discover that only one in 10 of those "green energy trainees" actually landed a job.

Now that may be because this community organizer has put every crack head, dope dealer, strong arm bandit, wife beating, bad check writing welfare recipient in the training program; or it could be that  he and his projections about all those green energy jobs that he's personally creating are full of more shit than the Christmas Goose.  Just sayin'.

I'm an engineer. I live in fear of losing my job, which may happen at any time. I've lined up some buddies who are doing well in high-end home improvement contracting, and I hope to go there with them if I lose my job. That's the best fall back plan I can find. They love it that I can spin off a simple python script that will calculate material needs, costs, and time in just a few minutes running from a laptop at the site.

Yet another engineer, working (at least for a little while longer) in defense/aerospace. Got a pretty high probability of being laid off in the next couple of years, and being in that highly sought-after late-50s white guy demographic, will most likely never have another engineering job.

Once an engineer leaves school and has a few years experience in some facet of engineering, it's generally assumed by employers that you can't do anything else but that and can't be trained into their job (never mind that just finishing engineering school is proof that one is eminently trainable). Even worse is to have been unemployed for more than a few weeks. So that poor semiconductor engineer schmuck is probably hosed career-wise.

I would bet that Obama has never even known anyone who works in engineering and has no conception that engineers are far more varied in their specialties than lawyers are. He no doubt regards them as interchangeable, so in his boundless wisdom finds it inconceivable that the guy could be out of work in this booming economy. So yep, Ace is dead right.

ott, Carter advisor Brzinzki (however you spell his name, who cares) speculated on CSPAN booktv that Georgia, Israel  & Taiwan shouldn't really be independent states & were on his endangered state list aka that the US should prioritize & throw them all under the bus in order to save money. Of course, Poland should be protected beecause that's where his stupid family is from. He also suggested that the US should stop annoying PRC with intel flights near ChiComs borders. It is not like China is investing in the Panama Canal or anything....it's not like the PRC poses a possible strategic threat to the US or anything stupid donkey-head.....
