Obama Resigns His Church Membership
— DrewM

Update: Confirmed by Obama spokesman.

Breaking on CNN from Obama shill Roland Martin.

Remember, "I could no more distance myself from Pastor Wright than I could from my white grandmother"?

I guess grandma is on notice.

Below the fold is the Pfleger spiel on Hillary that Obama denounced. Will he be asked if he felt out of place among people who laughed and cheered something he denounced? How could he spend 20 years worshiping in an environment like that?

Related [ace]: To let you in on a little secret, I've been a member of the Illinois Nazis for twenty years.

But I now am surprised and disappointed to find them saying that "the Jews are using the blacks as muscle to move in on you, and you are left defenseless."

I just didn't know Illinois Nazis said this sort of thing. They certainly didn't say anything so controversial at all the Hitler Rallies and Cross Burnings I attended. You also have to understand the "context" in which these sorts of things get said, and also note the various grievances Nazis might have against the US government. Like, you know, they're still pretty pissed about that whole Dresden thing. And driving Hitler to suicide in his bunker. And various other anti-Reich activities.

Honestly, if you're not an Illinois Nazi, you really are in no position to judge what might be said inside the Aryan Church.

At any rate, as I now am surprised and disappointed to find my political viability as a blogger damaged by my utterly-innocent association with the Illinois Nazis, I am "distancing myself" from them at this late date.

I do not expect to be asked any questions about my lifelong association with them from this point forward. Some people are allowed to associate with hardcore racist extremists for all their adult lives and then simply disown their entire past history with a meaningless politically-expedient gesture, and I insist I am among the select few permitted this license.

Furthermore, this entire controversy is a "distraction" intended to draw attention away from my message and the issues that really matter.

Seems like he's trying to put the whole place behind him while confirming the problem in the first place.

6 I guess this shows that Obama has a pair. Well, after several decades, being called out a number of times during a national political campaign, and not being able to shake the issue even with THE speech, etc. Maybe he rented the pair from his wife?

8 I can't believe he and his wife sat there quietly in the pew for 20 years while everyone else was hooting and hollering at this nonsense about introducing drugs and hiv into the black community and how horrible America was. It's disgusting that anyone would even consider him for potus.

15 Man, this guy is lucky the MSM's carrying his water. BO has to be the most retarded candidate evah. 20 years of listening to this racist, anti-American crap and *now* he quits. My, what a principled politician! What a clever political genius is Barry! Did you know he cummed in a magnum of Laudet champagne at Harvard Law? Or something like that. With just a little tweaking, here and there, you could make a great comedy ala Woody Allen's "What's up, Tiger Lily?" out of the Dim race and especially BO's campaign.

I surely hope you're right.  The Pfleger ads are still fair game as it can still be cast as an earmark issue.  And it will be enough of a reminer about Obama's 20 year church, without really having to talk about his 20 year church (because that's not fair because he dropped his membership, blah blah).

Maybe he can get Ayers and Dohrn to move, or to decide to take extended sabbaticals in New Guinea or something.

And Rezko can always have an accident in prison.

Then CNN will gin up a list of at least twenty evangelicals. CNN will ask, why hasn't John McCain roundly condemned these evangelicals for being hateful bigots, despite the fact the McCain has zero history with any evangelical named, no record of attendance or donation to said evangelicals? Uh, they won't mention that McCain has no connection to these people. Got that part wrong.

If he stays in his church, a) the closet-racist and b) bad judgment while insulting voter intelligence conclusion sticks.

If he abandons his church, the political expediency destroys a) hope-change meme and b) bad judgment while insulting voter intelligence conclusion sticks.

Obama's savior? The Democrats still vote and shill for him. The MSM still votes and shills for him. (But I repeat myself.) The undecideds remain disinterested enough until around election day at which point they'll  hear the moral equivalence that Wright-Pfleger-Meeks-Ayers-Rezko-etc. : Obama :: Hagee : McCain.

Much to the delight of the majority race present.  I am not amused this flim flam, shif'less, minstrel show con man is presented by the democratic party as their champion. It underscores their unserious approach to the nations challenges. The radical democrats only want to cement themselves into the positions of power to fleece the flock and arrange things so they are the only choice and voice available. 49 #39, AnonymousDrivel:

If the disinterested moderates make that analogy, then they haven't been paying attention. McCain never claimed any kind of "spiritual mentor" relationship with bonkers Hagee. He never wrote him up in a book. And he never held a press conference to say that there was no way he could abandon Hagee.

So, the analogy is a bust. It's not even comparable. Let's hope most rational people see past that smokescreen, which will become popular soon enough when Obama's campaign starts tanking.

Either he's an idiot , a corrupt hack from Chicago, a subversive, or a combination  of these- either way he is a total disaster for this country. Carter actually mouthed enough platitudes to make you think he would at least be mediocre in 1976. No issues about that with BO.

I think the church should resign him! Excommunicate semi-whitey!

It frustrates me that people will say this is a made up issue by the RightTM, without hearing what is being said, it's a matter of judgment. The ramifications of a Prez's poor judgment are HUGE! SCOTUS appointments, Cabinet positions, whom he speaks with in the foreign community...

BO has shown a huge lack of judgment, and MSM will not call him on it, and the people who do are seen as shrillish hacks, that are tools of The Man...and we all know The Man is really Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity once they work their Voltron magic.

74 This creep can almost literally say anything, and close to half the nation will swallow it. At 4:10 pm he could say the moon is a sphere of rocky material, to plaudits from listeners. At 4:15 pm he could declare the moon is a source of fine gourmet cheese and his fans would redouble the praise. I think he could hold a press conference, and say NASA needs to refocus its committment to lunar exploration in the search for Green Cheese. He could say he's not about to let a group of hedge fund speculators and profiteers despoil our shared Lunar Dairy Heritage. He could direct NASA to explore alternate means of preserving the Lunar Curds and Whey for future generations. Polite applause and cheers from O-ba-ma fans. Chris Matthews would probably muse about the flavor of the moon... is it like Camembert or more like Epoisses?

75 Areo, I hope you're right about seeing past the smokescreen, but the simpatico/collaborated steady drumbeat from the MSM does wonders for perception.

An analogy: Some talking head show presents some issue. There's the vast majority point of view (POV-M) that POV-M is correct. The overwhelming minority POV (POV-m) is a relative blip on the radar. Due to show limitations on time or producer/editor bias designed in to the debate, the discussion panel includes one member to support POV-M and one member to support POV-m. The perception now is not that the majority POV-M dominates, but that each POV is equally valid, that there's equal acceptance and truth to both POV-M and POV-m because of the structure of the debate. It's sort of a cloak of "fairness" that really conceals the truth.

Now repeat that scenario on multiple fronts. The MSM exhibits this groupthink/stylethink regularly. They are masters at delivering messages. Sometimes they get clumsy and the mask falls, but they remain the best in the world at shaping opinion due to a) training, b) experience, c) ideology, and d) monopoly.

I used an extreme example to illustrate, but don't underestimate the ability of those who would still be aware of the original analogy (despite not following every development) to be persuaded that the equivalence is valid. What proportion can be persuaded? I don't know, but these federal elections are always close at the ballot box (perhaps less so at the electoral college level), so a percent here or there can and will make a difference. Bush's unpopularity (in spite of a Democrat-controlled Congress w/ even less popularity) and McCain's milquetoast remain in the moderates' minds. Bush/the GOP's unpopularity probably will be enough to trump even the thoughts of those who would find Obama's POV (as spun by the MSM) unfair. Enough, however, will still find the MSM drumbeat compelling.

If that is the case then Obama needs to explain how he can change his mind about his church of 20 years when facts on the ground change but is unwilling reevaluate or even visit Iraq or General Petraeus to see how the facts on the ground there have changed!

Is this really the judgment of a leader?

81 What's the right Lunar cheese to have with popcorn? Any cheese, so long as it's made from donkey milk. Elephant milk cheese is unacceptable, as well as nearly nonexistent. I hear a lot about rhino cheese, however.

84 This guy is a clown.

He's already on record, defending Trinity United and how wonderful it is, just a few months ago.

Better believe it, people will run that via 527's ala "I actually voted for it before I voted against it." It makes Obama look weak, politically craven, and says that he really believes what Trinity United stands for, but doesn't want to upset "Whitey."

I'm just waiting for Michelle Obama's "I hate Whitey" speech to surface. Good times, good times.

This gets him nothing. Just in March he was on the record about how wonderful Trinity and the new Pastor, Moss are.

86 "Who the hell announces a "resignation" from a church?" There's generally a difference between "attending" and "being a member," regardless of your denomination. Most churches have membership rosters. That way, they know who can vote in church elections and whatnot. When I switch churches, I always send a letter, letting them know I'm no longer a member, and (usually) what my new church is, just so they don't think I've gone heathen or something. If I were leaving due to a difference of opinion, or faith, or some serious disagreement, I'd definitely feel compelled to resign from the church.

I still dont understand the meaning of the word "resign" here - but it looks like BHO has disowned the african american community.

For those members in Trinity who thought that he really stood by the church, this must be an unbearable gut punch. Officially this church has now gained "pariah" status. Good work, Barry.

What's the over/under on "Reverend" Wright coming out swinging against this ingrate ?

88 Wow, my guess is that is going to be a mutual throwing under the bus event. I for one don't think the congregation is going to take this very gracefully. PRESS: "Mr. Obama sat right next to me on the pew, clapping llike a race hating demon at every word that came from that pulpit."

90 Obama obviously needs to have a line to fire back at McCain or anyone else that would raise the issue of his 20 year involvement with this circus.  Now he can just claim that he resigned from that church and any substantive questions from here in out are just a distraction.  The media will cover for him.

On a related note, Father P is putting on quite a show trying to come across with a black cadence.  I have heard alot of preaching over the years, and it sounds absolutely ridiculous to listen to some white guy express himself in such a fake manner.

And the I.R.S. needs to be seriously checking that church out . . . .

Posted by: DCox at May 31, 2008 03:04 PM (2pT9a)

91 If he thinks this is going to cut it he is delusional.
He basically just said I am quiting Trinity for political purposes only.
That's it.
He really doesn't get it....at all.

95 it sounds absolutely ridiculous to listen to some white guy express himself in such a fake manner.

No more so than when black guys affect the same manner and accent. You figure it comes naturally to some people? Like they're born that way? It's frustrating to me that so many young people think speaking like Steppin Fetchit is somehow laudable or shows how much a part of the community they are.

Roland Martin outdid himself tonight. Basically, he says Obama had to resign because the poor church and the racist reverends were getting death threats. So, you see, there's nothing wrong with the church, but Obama did the honorable thing to leave in order to protect those guys.

I'm sorry Ace, but "shill" no longer covers it. Martin is now "undying dick sucker" to Obama.

Well, that was just too easy. The "right wing noise machine" took Barry O. from defending his Uncle Wright (Retired) to resigning from his church in less than 3 months. I say the "right wing noise machine" needs to take on something a little more challenging now. There are still more than 5 months to the general election.  I say the "right wing noise machine's" next task should be to make Obama name a Republican as his Vice President. And not just any Republican. Obama should get a Republican that agrees with him on the war. Obama should get a Republican that agrees with him that America is a disaster. Obama should get a Republican that is as naive about foreign policy as he is. Obama should, nay must, pick Congressman Ron Paul. Ron Paul for Vice President! Yeaarrhhgghraaa!

There it is, "right wing noise machine." Go to it.

Well before I also met these issues, through my friends recommended,I knew the powerfulDVD Ripper for Mac.This kind of conversion software can help you solve above problems. In addition
to this,It provides you a series of powerful and easy to use movie edit functions such as triming, cropping frame size, merging, adjustin effect, choosing subtitle, etc.
So if you have the same trouble,I really hope my recommendation can help you.
