Obama: Like Dan Quayle Only Dumber
— DrewM

It’s a good thing Obama is The Chosen One or he’d be a laughing stock.

Yesterday’s “Potatoe" moment came during a visit the Mount Rushmore in South Dakota.

He did express curiosity about the filming of a chase scene in "North by Northwest," Alfred Hitchcock's 1959 classic starring Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint that included a death-defying scramble over Rushmore's presidential faces.

"How did they get up there in the first place?" he asked ranger Wesley Jensen.

"They didn't. It was a movie set," Jensen told him.

If you haven’t seen “North by Northwest”, now you know what you are doing this weekend. It’s great. That said, it was made in 1959 and the special effects weren’t really fooling anyone. Except apparently Obama. The Mount Rushmore sequence is about 1:52 in.

Obviously this isn’t anything other than a mildly amusing goof. We’ve all said and done stupid stuff and most of us would look like retarded fools if we had cameras following us around like Obama, Clinton and McCain. The issue is, when Republicans do stuff like this it's proof they are drooling imbeciles. When Obama repeatedly does it? Just more filler for the memory hole.

Look, enough w/ the comparisons to stupid Danny Quyale, ok? I mean, Obama has only made simple gaffes that any of us could make, like saying we have 60 states, thinking movies follow real-life rules because sets and props don't exist, having his spiritual mentor be a raving racist and conspiracy-mongering lunatic.....you know, common everyday fuck-ups.

Now misspelling "potato"....that is just unforgivable, the kind of thing that could lead to the downfall of a nation (think how pissed off Idaho and Ireland must've been.)

12 I'm really tired of the bad rap that Quayle got. In the years since he left politics, I have only heard good things about him, especially his intelligence. It's a sad thing when an Obama, who has no legislative experience, and countless more stupid statements (not to mention abhorrent policy positions he embraces on the fly) compared to what Quayle had when running for veep, is the shining light messiah of the Democrats. I did enjoy the Michael J. Fox skit on SNL about him, where he keeps standing up during Bush's speech at the wrong time. That was kind of funny. I couldn't find it on Youtube, though.

Posted by: John F Not Kerry at May 31, 2008 06:48 AM (HF2US)

13 A light bulb went off over a number of people's heads when Quayle criticized the glamorization of single motherhood.  Years later, Candace Bergen  stated she agreed with him. Yet, she was part of the mob for years who ridiculed him for recognizing the importance of fathers in children's lives.  She was a hypocrite then, and she is a hypocrite now.

In all fairness, there are movies I've seen as a kid where I didn't remember how horrible the props were.  Don't treat Obama the way reporters treated Quale.  The GOP shouldn't ask to be treated like dems, just ask to be treated fairly.

You're already doing what you need to do ... talk about his policies, talk about who his friends are.  He's dumb on stuff that's really important to a nominee.

I think it's much worse than that.  For libs, when Obama pulls out the dipstick shtick, it's humorously cute in an endearing way.  (Like when he blew his nose during a campaign speech and the crowd went wild.)  BARF!  (John Candy, we need you.)  I also think this 'do not mention these things' attitude in our media is the progressive racism of lowered expectations rearing its ugly head.  As has been said many times, if the Obama were white, he'd be toast, burnt.  Dan Quayle was literally excorciated non-stop for 'potatoe', even though that spelling came off the teacher's cue card (that 'the rest of the story' stuff we rarely hear).  What I also find hysterical is if Obama were a Republican, with all his religious baggage, he'd be excorciated by the progressives non-stop for it.  And he'd run out of buses to throw people under.  Maybe Nagin, down in Chocolate City, can cut the (half) brother a good deal on some slightly water-damaged ones.

28 Potatoe, as with Tomatoe, are both valid, but archaic spellings. I remember seeing both versions (that is, with the 'e' and without) being in use when I was a small child. I do not remember Dan Quayle's age off the top of my head now, but I suspect both forms were in use when he was a small child, too.

I tried to explain Obama's overall worldview to a family member the other day and it was like trying to teach a chimpanzee quantum mechanics: the basic gist of their 'comprehension' of Obama goes like this: wow, he's so smart and articulate and he says all these nice things about bringing us together and, gosh, wouldnt' it be nice to finally have a black president--stuff like this is what occupires the vacuous hole known as the 'mind' if you happen to live on the east/west coast or a major urban center. *None* of them are having any part of believing his tax plans (I couldn't even get beyond this with them, they're so willyfully hoodwinked) will hurt them badly (even when I show them videos, documentation, etc. that isn't from the dread Rove-powered, Cheney-lovin', FNC but are simply videos of Obama stating what he stands for).

The WEED AND SEED PROGRAM is monopolized by uberleftists. Intentionally or not, Quayle was set up and he fell for the erroneous flashcard. A lot of people would be tempted by etiquette to get taken by a flashcard over their own mind. That's nothing to brag about. But he admitted his mistake, so now it doesn't matter except to the pea brains who wanted and still want potato to have its silent "e" ending.

Last night, observing the Scripps National Spelling Bee, the pronouncer’s poor enunciation was consistently wrong. He mispronounced so many syllables with a consistent “uh” vowel sound regardless of the vowel content within the word. He even stuck an "uh" in Kulturuhkampf. He also screwed up Nietzsche’s last name that way, emitting Nietzschuh from his erroneously gay hole under his nose. He carelessly misled responses from contestants, making the evening all about himself. THAT is the typical gay behavior no one is surprised to experience, and that we have all been trained to accept as the rule.

As per NXNW, that just goes to show how gullible Obama is. Don’t send a boy to do a man’s job. A presumptive President of the United States would think that National Monuments are not misused, that sets are preferential.
