3 From Lileks' column:or letting Joan Collins die so she doesn’t go on to found a Hitler-enabling pacifist movement. (“Yesterday is Tomorrow.”)

Not only is this episode title backwards, it's not even the right episode.

Finally, some payoff from a misspent youth.

5 Kensington, one of the pieces is, in fact, an appreciation of Doctor Who.

I always liked the way the Doctor is just a completely bullshit pacifist. He gets all pissy when Harriet Jones blew up a retreating alien invasion: "That's murder!" but, a few years previous, he caused Skaro's sun to go nova wiping out untold numbers of Daleks. Yeah, that's a funny kind of pacifism, Doctor.

Basically, the writers want him to be a cuddly, liberal pacifist, but cuddly, liberal pacifists make for shitty heroes so he's got to kick people's asses while giving other people shit for doing exactly what he does.  I think if I were a companion I'd spend half my time calling the Doctor on his hypocrisy. The other half I'd spend trying to get in Rose's knickers.

8 Great Lileks piece. Moldy links and dated credits at the bottom courtesy NRO's editors.
