9 Flyers goal! While the NBA engages in navel-gazing, a black NHL player is one goal away from a playoff hat trick, maybe even a natural one.

17 The group of evangelical pastors descended on Capitol Hill throughout the day to meet with more than 100 rank-and-file House lawmakers, most of them Republican, to make the case for acting on a rewrite of the nation’s immigration code before the clock runs out on the 113th Congress. Brought together by the Evangelical Immigration Table, which describes itself as “a broad coalition of evangelical organizations and leaders advocating for immigration reform consistent with biblical values,” the pastors hope to deliver a message that appeals to members of Congress on the far-right end of the political spectrum who might be inclined not to support any legislation that smacks of “amnesty.” Fucking Bible thumpers are against me too.

I have little faith that the GOPe won't. It's begging for loopholes in the laws American citizens demand be followed.

What? You mean to say that when a country loses control of its ability to manufacture key items, it loses control of its ability to do other things? Why didn't anyone tell us this?

195 @184 I might argue that child sexual abuse belongs in the hanging category. At the very least, it warrants life in prison. ----------------- Can't. It's "cruel and unusual punishment", according to the US Supreme Court. That's based on a case several years ago in which a man raped his very young stepdaughter, and iirc basically destroyed her vagina in the process. iirc, the majority opinion muttered something about European standards as its rationale. That decision left me seething with rage when I found out about it.

My family lived in the Philippines. Whole families there have been pro thieves for generations. When people got orders for another base thieves hit them knowing they didn't have time to follow up with police. Thieves knew of the orders because they paid everyone for info. So when we got orders the police staked out our house for two weeks and busted a three man team.

The man was convicted because he shot them coming down the stairs with no weapon visible and the peeps didn't know he was there. So the threat against his life wasn't present. You shoot to stop a threat against your life.
