Nifty Play

One for the girls and one for the boys but really for both.

This may be a very early open thread. I'm bushed. I'm also tired.

18 So, I was watching TV yesterday and a commercial came on for Amazon.com or something like that peddling the Kindle something or other.  The one you can see in broad daylight.

Anyway, there's a reasonably hot chick in a bikini lounging reading a Kindle while a good looking guy is sitting next to her struggling to read things on his iPad.

They strike up a conversation about the Kindle and all that and the commercial completes with the guy saying "DONE."  The woman asks if he finished his book and he says no.  "I just ordered my new Kindle."

He then says, "We should celebrate!"  She responds with "My husband is getting me a drink right now."

He says smugly, "So's mine."  Then they pan to the tiki bar where two dudes are standing there waiting and they both wave.

Was that really necessary?  I think not.  Really ruined Amazon for me.  I don't need to be force fed 'gaydom' in EVERYTHING I WATCH.

80 I was walking my dog this morning, and there were three cop cars on the next block over, so I went to see what was going on. Apparently, some guy's car was stolen and involved in a hit and run, so it was being returned to him, front end destroyed but it still ran. Nice lady cop tells me of a rash of car thefts and burglaries in my neighborhood, then asks me if my dog will bite someone who tried to break in my house. I hesitated a bit, thinking about how some cops might mistake my American Bulldog for a Pit Bull, so I said "I don't think so". But then she said something about giving those thieves some comeuppance, and told me to be alert. I said "I was just giving you the answer I thought you wanted to hear" She laughed at that.

104 Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.) said that if the sequester goes into effect, women who are victims of domestic violence will be “forced to stay in their homes with their abuser” at the “hands of the GOP.” The automatic across-the-board cuts, known as the sequester, are set to take effect on Friday – a 1.2% reduction in increased federal spending in 2013, or about $44 billion out of $3.6 trillion. “The harm is real,” Edwards said. “230,000 victims will be calling crisis hotlines and those calls will go unanswered. 230,000 calls to crisis hotlines around the country.” “So can you imagine that in the middle of the night a woman is being battered, she has her two children, she wants to get to safety, she places a phone call to a hotline and that line goes unanswered,” she said. “That’s what sequestration means to victims of domestic violence.” - See more at: http://weaselzippers.us/#sthash.Q1uotLyu.dpuf Another dumb pig from the BCC

Pfc. Bradley Manning gave a detailed explanation of his actions in a military courtroom Thursday as he entered guilty pleas to some charges.

"I believed that if the general public, especially the American public, had access to the information ... this could spark a domestic debate on the role of the military and our foreign policy in general," Manning said. He said he was troubled by counterinsurgency strategies that seemed to ignore "the complex dynamics of the people living in the environment."

A judge is weighing whether to accept Manning's guilty plea to reduced charges on 10 counts, which carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison. But even if the plea is accepted, prosecutors can still pursue a court-martial on the remaining 12 charges. One of those is aiding the enemy, which carries a possible life sentence.

MI to take over Detroit

http://tinyurl.com/cxmyaew Posted by: kbdabear at February 28, 2013 04:41 PM

Uh..oh...its ZeroHedge..well..uh. left out of the story is the Detroit political structure, the city administration remains in place.

Which kinda reminds me of a story told by Sir Francis Chichester about his solo sail around the world.

His boat suffered a knock down during a very stormy night, and discovering that his boat was taking on water, he attempted, and failed, to get a pump started. So, in the dark and in a violently pitching small boat, began bailing with a bucket; fill the bucket, climb the gangway to the deck, empty the bucket on deck, and repeat. All night long. When daylight breaks he discovers he has been emptying his bucket right into a hole that has been broken through deck and the water is simply flowing right back below decks. Upon seeing this, and realizing his vessel is not about to sink, he calls it a day and gets some sleep.

So, ya, the State of Michigan is 'taking over' Detroit, but it won't fix anything because the problem remains in place.

I boarded a jet plane this past Friday and traveled 16 hours through the night to Washington, D.C. I was back on a plane again on Monday morning flying the reverse 16 hours back home. I was in Washington with over 40,000 other protesters for the Forward on Climate Rally, to call President Obama to say "no" to the [Keystone XL] pipeline.

265 226 Suppose you had a couple of billion dollars. And suppose your lifetime goal were to subvert Austin, turn it conservative. What could you do? The schools. The public school system in Austin is ultra liberal and they actually still have many Montessori and related schools as well. St. Stephens and St Andrews are still semi-conservative or at least not evil. Take over the school system and establish a few conservative private schools; that would turn things. A lot of the rich libs in Austin have no idea that they are living like conservatives, they just talk the liberal hate talk.

So a couple of cowboys from ajoining ranches on the Colorado - Wyoming border are out riding fence, and come upon a sheep with its head stuck in the fence.

The one from Colorado sees this and says, "It's been a long time since I've been to town, I think I'll have me some of that", and jumps off his horse and has his way with the sheep.

When he's done, he asks the Wyoming cowboy, "You want some of this?"

The Wyoming cowboy thinks for a minute, says, "Sure, why not", then climbs down off his horse, walks over, and sticks his head in the fence.

285 Speaking of schools...

I have a meeting with the principle of my kid's school tomorrow, and if I don't get good answers I may find myself looking for an attorney.

See, on Monday, he was sitting in class and needed to go potty.  He couldn't get his teacher's attention and (being 5) didn't realize that the correct decision would be to go to the bathroom anyway and deal with the consequences later.  So he crapped his pants.

Okay, that doesn't make me happy, but he's 5, and he's in class, and it's been reinforced for quite a while now that he needs to sit still and not interrupt.  An older kid would have made a different decision.  As for the teacher- I know my son.  I wouldn't surprise me if he'd waited until the last possible minute to try to get her attention.  I hold her relatively blameless.

No, my problem is what happened next.  They called my wife, told her what happened and asked her to pick him up.

Fine.

They said, "He definitely has an odor."  Well, duh.  But fine.

When she gets there to pick him up (nearly a half-hour later) she finds that they haven't bothered to provide him with the least bit of cleaning.  He has literally been sitting in his own feces since the incident.  When my wife asked why, the Nurse said it was policy since his wasn't a "medical incident" or some such claptrap.

Now, if this had happened on Tuesday, instead of Monday, it would have been over an hour before anyone could have come to get him.  An hour that they would have forced him to sit in his own filth because of their "policy."

We've been trying to get an appointment to see the Principle since Tuesday.  They finally returned our calls today.  We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Sorry, but I had to vent.

Hmm. I'm game. Let's give it a go:

So a couple of New Zealanders from adjoining ranches in the Shire are out riding fence, and come upon a kiwi with its head stuck in the fence.

The one from Bree sees this and says, "It's been a long time since I've been to town, I think I'll have me some of that", and jumps off his horse and has his way with the kiwi.

When he's done, he asks the one from Hobbiton, "You want some of this?"

The one from Hobbiton  thinks for a minute, says, "Sure, why not", then climbs down off his horse, walks over, and sticks his head in the fence.

Nope. Not seeing it.

The reverse of that is seeing girls with short skirts, heels and bare legs or young dudes with shorts on walking around in Wisconsin on frigidly cold days like they're headed for a night out on the town in San Diego. I know the girls are trying to look sexy and all, but blue legs don't seem that sexy to me.
