Muslim Brotherhood Local Headquarters Attacked; One Killed
— Ace

Tensions between the Muslim Brotherhood and its many opponents are turning into actual violence.

A Muslim Brotherhood member was killed and 60 people were injured on Sunday in an attack on the main office of the Brotherhood in the Egyptian Nile Delta town of Damanhour, the website of the Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party said.

“Brotherhood member, Islam Fathy Masoud, 15, was killed and 60 were injured after thugs attacked the Muslim Brotherhood’s headquarters in Damanhour in the total absence of police forces,” the website said.

Judges are revolting against Musilm Brotherhood rule in their own way, with words, accusing the regime of asserting unrestricted executive power and thus diminishing the powers of the judges (which are supposed to serve as a check on the executive).

The country awaits big protests this weekend.

For the past several days, Morsi’s opponents and members of his Muslim Brotherhood have battled it out in the streets of several cities in the Nile Delta in violence that has left at least five dead. The latest died Friday from injuries suffered in fighting the day before, security officials said.

Many fear the clashes are a sign of more widespread and bloodier battles to come on Sunday, the anniversary of Morsi’s inauguration, when the opposition says it will bring millions into the streets around the country.

The protesters insist there should be new elections. The army's position in this so far is deliberately vague:

That has set up a showdown in the streets in the coming days. Mursi's Islamist supporters and some opposition groups plan rallies on Friday, and the broad opposition coalition hopes to bring millions out on Sunday to demand new elections.

The army has urged both sides to reconcile and has warned that it could step back in to impose order if violence spins out of control – though it insists it will defend the democracy born out of the uprising against Mubarak in early 2011.

I note the Army does not say it will defend Morsi -- it says it will defend democracy. I don't know if they've decided Morsi = democracy.

And yet Obama remains silent, and seems to be supporting the Muslim Brother government at least through inaction.

Egypt appears to be on the brink of chaos this week but the best advice America’s ambassador has for an embattled religious minority in the world’s most populous country is to stay home. The report about the visit of Ambassador Anne Patterson to Coptic Pope Tawadros II came from an Egyptian paper but is spreading rapidly around the Internet and being cited as an example of the tacit support the United States continues to show for the government of President Mohamad Morsi even as the country starts to fall apart But with a mass protest scheduled for Sunday — the event Ambassador Patterson wanted Copts to stay away from — the president’s attitude toward the demonstrations that are shaking Morsi’s grip on power is more than a matter of curiosity.

This is, after all, an administration that did a lot to encourage the first round of Arab spring protests in Egypt that took down longtime U.S. ally Hosni Mubarak and ultimately replaced him with a Muslim Brotherhood government that may be far worse than deposed authoritarian.

And that support may be more than tacit.

A senior Obama administration official confirmed to Fox News that members of the National Security Council staff met with a controversial Muslim scholar, but stressed that they were focused on his recent efforts to counter the Al Qaeda narrative.

The official was responding to a report on Wednesday from The Investigative Project on Terrorism, which uncovered a statement on the website of Sheikh Abdullah Bin Bayyah claiming he met June 13 with Obama administration officials at the White House.

Bin Bayyah is vice president of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, a group founded by Egyptian cleric Yusuf Qaradawi -- a Muslim Brotherhood leader who has called for the death of Jews and Americans and himself is banned from visiting the U.S.

Bin Bayyah, for his part, has urged the U.N. to criminalize blasphemy. His group has spoken out in favor of Hamas and in 2009 issued a fatwa barring "all forms of normalization" with Israel.

He also has said that terrorism cannot be justified by the text of the Koran, but we've heard people say that before, and not seem to mean it terribly much. The leader of the organization has also...

....urged Muslim nations to acquire nuclear weapons, demanded the death of American soldiers in Iraq, and defended Hitler.

Anti-Morsi protesters are displaying Obama's image, and not in a Hopey-Changey way, either.

Those must be the Extremist Tea Party Types at Tahir Square.

The latest news on the protests, via Twitter (unreliable) and Russia Today (Soviet agitprop remnant which is also unreliable), is that 70 have been injured in the Alexandria protests, and that Muslim Brother headquarters in three cities have been set on fire.

Here's a picture of (I think) one headquarters "on fire," thought it appears, at least at this point, the office isn't on fire. There is a large bonfire outside it and near it, but I don't know if that grim concrete fasçade is going to catch fire anytime soon. But it does seem like a threatening protest.

I just hope we don't suddenly find out that the anti-Morsi/MB movement has been heavily infiltrated by elements of AQ or the Iranian government.  But given the links between the MB and those two groups, I suspect that the anti-Morsi/MB side is safe enough to support for now.

74 Obama's middle eastern foreign policy has been to work to topple any secular or nominally-secular regime and get the Muslim Brotherhood in power (Egypt, Libya, and now Syria). He, of course, ignores protests in Iran, can't even offer a statement of support, but the MuzBros get air support and weapons. People don't realize that any Aid we send to Syria, is in direct violation of the UN charter, which has the Force of Law in the US (ratified treaty).

You cannot get involved in 'internal' affairs of other nations, UNLESS it is to support the Member State Government (you are asked) or for 'humanitarian purposes'... or with UN Security Council OK...

So, Russian supporting Assad is OK with the UN Charter, us giving Arms to Rebels... is not...

And if the US does not bother following the rules... how can we bitch at other countries for not following the rules?

112 Obama: Forgive me if I go "Full Bulworth." Theworld grows smaller every day, and the threat of aggression by any group, anywhere, can no longer be tolerated. There must be security for all, or no one is secure. Now, this does not mean giving up any freedom, except the freedom to act irresponsibly. Your ancestors knew this when they made laws to govern themselves and hired policemen to enforce them. We, of the other nations, have long accepted this principle. We have an organization for the mutual protection of all nations and for the complete elimination of aggression. The test of any such higher authority is, of course, the police force that supports it. For our policemen, we created a race of robots. Their function is to patrol the nations in A-10-s like this one and preserve the peace. In matters of aggression, we have given them absolute power over us. This power cannot be revoked. At the first sign of violence, they act automatically against the aggressor. The penalty for provoking their action is too terrible to risk. The result is, we live in peace, without arms or armies .. if I can, secure in the knowledge that we are free from aggression and war. Free to pursue more... profitable enterprises. Now, we do not pretend to have achieved perfection, but we do have a system, and it works .. for now. I came here to give you these facts. It is no concern of ours how you run your own nation, but if you threaten to extend your violence, this sandpile of yours will be reduced to a melted sand art. Your choice is simple: join us and live in peace, or pursue your present course and face obliteration. We shall be waiting for your answer. The decision rests with you.

189 Wonderful timing on the CME 'o Regression article on Drudge. I'm actually writing a paper for one of my classes on CME/EMP and their effects on U.S. infrastructure. The calculated odds are about 12% that we'll get hit with a Carrington Event-level CME in the next ten years which would, to put it succinctly, really fuck our shit up.
Posted by: Country Singer

Have you uncovered any actual test data on the potential of a Carrington event?  Hard data, not OMFG it might be bad.

190 Well we have left Iraq hanging in the wind...  withdrawl of troops.  Their air force and air defense a joke.

192 156 To some extent George Bush subscribed to that theory. He said something to the effect that being president changes you. That nobody can get daily briefings like the President does and not be made more serious about being a good leader. Posted by: bonhomme at June 28, 2013 01:36 PM (gtjN1) That theory has clearly been disproven by the current Resident.

Yeah, that's better design work than anyone in the R-Money campaign did.

I'm still working my way through a report published in Space Weather, but just by what we know of the documented effects of the Carrington Event, it's pretty easy to extrapolate the effects on current technology.  I'm also wending my way through the EMP report that largely went ignored because it was released the same day as the 9/11 report.  I've been looking at this stuff for years, as it falls peripherally into the scope of my job.

201 ACE,

Obama is sending US troops (http://tinyurl.com/pjpsuqn):

"According to official accounts, the so-called “Multinational Force and Observers” (MFO) mission, composed of troops serving 13 governments, is AIMED AT CONTROLLING RIOTS controlling riots and violence. Another primary purpose, government spokesmen claimed, is enforcing the 1979 peace treaty between Israeli and Egyptian authorities. News reports and official statements suggest the American troops, serving under MFO command, will be operating security checkpoints and responding to threats... U.S. troops spent some six months training at Fort Hood and Fort Irwin for the mission and will reportedly be ready to go in the “near future.” "
