Multiple Layers Of Fact Checking Blahdeddy-Blah-Blah
— Ace

This is funny, but it's funny in a dark way. You have to watch the first video first to get the context -- it involves seriously-injured possibly-paralyzed Buffalo Bills player Kevin Everett.

The joke isn't about him, it's about stupid reporters. But I have to kind of warn you that you have to sort of put Everett's bad situation out of mind to find this funny.

Is Channel 12 racist?

1 There couldn't have been a worse, more fitting, wrong video to show.

2 Since the guy's made a near-miraculous recovery in real life, I don't feel that bad about laughing about the video.

3 Wow, gotta be someone's idea of a practical joke.

5 Ooops.

When I was in college I interned at a TV station and we were promoting a network show called Dinosaurs during the local news. The on screen graphic said "Prehistoric Hijinks " but the video that was shown was of the Rodney King beating. The TD just hit the wrong button and ran tape from machine 3 instead of machine 2. Woops.

Well, I think all of us are hopeful and pulling for Kevin.

So, under the circumstances, that mistake really made me laugh.

I'll probably regret it later, let me have my moment now, k?

Wouldn't it have been just as funny if both men were white?  But it wouldn't if the second black man was scrawny--he looks like a football player.

25 Is there a shade to your schadenfreude?

Posted by: Ralph L at September 28, 2007 02:56 PM (xMcER)

26 Funny as hell, but that's most likely the director's fuck-up, not some producer or reporter getting confused over who Everett is.  It's not an editorial or fact checking screwup.  Someone just rolled and took the wrong video.
