Mitch McConnell's New Ad Highlights IRS Abuse, Nixon
— JohnE.

Great ad. It reminds me a lot of the fantastic "Remember November" ads the RGA ran before the 2010 election. Moar, please.

20 Well reporting from behind enemy lines over at Space Battles again. The lefties are going just nuts with glee about Bachmann not running and are being typically vicious in their comments. They are down playing the scandals as nothing and that the IRS was justified in targeting conservatives. Overall they have a sense of triumphalism and are certain they will take control of Government and drive the Republican party out of existence. The big thing they talk about now is how far left the country will be able to move before the current Democratic party splinters into several more moderate parties. In short they are their typical sickening selves.

Good.  The IRS is the perfect foil because that one resonates with people.  Yes, yes I know - Benghazi has a body count - unfortunately that is completely confused and you need to actually work to figure out what went on there.

The IRS targeting people?  That's easy to grasp.

Why not a 30-second or 60-second version?

And up until now there were no Presidents with agencies harassing his political enemies, so why can't we have a 3 minute political ad?  The MSM sure can't be counted on doing three minutes on this.

He has the balls to produce and run this ad! Which you apparently like. So what's your beef with him? Seriously, I want examples of what an inexperienced junior Senator in the minority party could "actually do" after defeating McConnell in a primary. That is, assuming he/she could then win the general election and not do an O'Donnell/Angle/Mourdock/Akin faceplant.

I'm not looking to pick   on   someone you like, rockmom. And I agree about the faceplant.

My beef with McConnell is too much talk, not enough action. And he's not the only one with    this problem, IMO. Yes,  his ad is good, but I've  seen too many good ads  made by pols who get elected and then turn around and defect to the other side.

Like my own Senator: Rube-io. I thought I could've trusted him. Now I regret my vote for him.

For starters, you can stop helping Reid advance the progressive agenda for the sake of "doing something" and "bipartisanship."

More importantly, you can use the floor of the Senate to make bombastic speeches to at the very least raise awareness or make the evening news. Rand Paul and Ted Cruz understand this.

If you were a Republican senator would you just sit there and twiddle your thumbs until you were in the majority, or would you use your office and the Senate to any way you could to advance your agenda?

I agree, but it's a fine line to walk. We over-supplied the Rooskies during WWII, and over-supported the Chinese. In both instances the support was very well founded, but we were VERY mistaken doing it to the extent that we did. Hindsight, of course, but we should tread carefully. To the extent that Assad and the 'rebels' bloody each other, I am not too disturbed that we are enablers.

The calculus:  Dems want one of their own in the seat vs. a soft RINO.  If the R is considered by the base to be too soft, they won't turn out for him, hence he's vulnerable.

I don't think McConnell scares the Dems so much as provides a potential pickup because the base may be convinced into staying home instead of voting for him.
