Michael "Piltdown" Mann melts down at HuffPo
— Purple Avenger

There's really no way to describe this screed other than a meltdown.

Its EPIC. You can almost feel the fleckspittle flying out of the screen at you. He's losing it.

14 He is not a 'nutcase'. I'm not sure if he's actually crooked or if he's just a peg-the-meter case of pathological altruism. He does, however, live within a bubble that reinforces his personal belief in his own rectitude, and he doesn't much like having people try to poke holes in that bubble.

Posted by: JEM at November 29, 2013 08:19 AM (o+SC1)

15 Like a explosive used to start up a rocket engine, all Mann thinks he need do to get the audience revved up is mention the Kochs. With that perfunctory statement, he is off and running screeding away for all he is worth. Harrumph, harrumph and, for good measure, harrumph! IPCC! Washington Post! Science is Settled! And harrumph! What a bozo. Scientific process and debate is entirely his enemy, and he is nearly open about saying so. He is anti-science almost.

16 You can almost see the grant money flying away out of his pockets, and fleeing the institutions that preach this horseshit. Oh, yeah, "Koch Brothers!!" Suck it Mann. Realistically, this will end up being a dog whistle to get the NY Times back on the warmist reservation. Classic Alinsky tactics: Isolate, villify etc...

We The People rely on the press and journalists to truthfully and fully inform us to enable us to make decisions based on fact rather than supposition, lies or deception. When the NYT betrays the basic principle to truthfully and fully inform, it is a sad and dangerous indictment. When they knowingly provide a forum and platform for intentionally false information by known agents of deception and great wealth, that should be seen as a criminal betrayal and failure. 68 I still can't believe anyone takes this guy seriously anymore. I mean, if I put something a famous analysis into the literature based on some data I'd gathered, and someone told me they'd gotten the same outcome by feeding random noise to my algorithm, I'd be upset all right - at myself. I'd be grateful to the person who called it to my attention and gave me the chance to retract. Then I'd write a properly humble retraction, feeling all the while like Mrs. Litella (Never mind!). But he never did retract, apparently feeling that if the result is right it doesn't matter how you get there. To his supporters, those who object to this are anti-science.

Posted by: Felix Steiner at November 29, 2013 09:42 AM (32lOI)

93 Mann thinks that the number and intensity of tornadoes will increase, but he also says that observational data about these two predictions are unreliable. He asserts therefore that we must rely on "physical reasoning" instead. But he and Muller have reasoned and come to different conclusions, what's a scientist supposed to do? In real science, you test a theory against observation, if the observation is impossible, or not currently able to be done, then all you have are two interesting theories, nothing more. From 1949 till 1965 there were two major theories of how the universe began: The big bang theory and the steady state theory. The majority of physicists and astronomers held to the BBT, and a minority held to the SST. The 1965 discovery of the background microwave radiation killed the SST, because that theory had no good way to explain it, whereas it was predicted by the BBT. Were Fred Hoyle, Hermann Bondi, and Thomas Gold, the main architects of the SST then considered to be cranks, contrarians, and in the pocket of the Koch Bros.? Of course not, this is how science works. Observation, not popularity, decides the issue. Ditto for Kepler's predecessors: Brahe, Copernicus, and Ptolemy, re: the solar system. Also ditto for Newton when Einstien's theory of gravity could better explain observations. Mann may be right about AGW, but currently it's just a lot of hand waving. That Muller's source of funding is evil, but Mann's isn't is stupid: They're both getting paid to produce the results their backers want.

98 Here's a short but very enlightening video explaining why the concept of "sea level" is hideously complex:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q65O3qA0-n4

Next time a warmista hits you with "rising sea levels", you'll be well armed .

And if you spend time at wattsupwiththat.com, you will learn that the precision of satellites used to measure "sea level" is only about ten cm, so claims of  mm changes in sea level are utterly bogus---such changes are beyond the capacity of the instruments, AND "sea level" at any particular place is never static, so local differences over time don't measure global changes.

104 I never sign into those freaking sites that want access to my shit, so I will comment on the ridiculousness here.
Michael Mann- The IPCC conducts no research. It interprets data. Therefore, I believe I would rather use information that can be replicated, and validated, period. Anyone can interpret the data to mean what they want. Until one can use the scientific method, well pontification and bloviation on your part is not acceptable.
