McClatchy: Maybe the IRS Targeted More Conservatives Than We Were Earlier Led to Believe
— Ace

At Gateway Pundit, notice the words McClatchy (generally a liberal organization) uses to describe this.

While the developing scandal over the targeting of conservatives by the tax agency has largely focused to date on its scrutiny of groups with words such as “tea party” or “patriot” in their names, these examples suggest the government was looking at a broader array of conservative groups and perhaps individuals. Their collective experiences at a minimum could spread skepticism about the fairness of a powerful agency that should be above reproach and at worst could point to a secret political vendetta within the government against conservatives.

That's not minimizing this, as we've come to expect. That's discussing it plainly.

They discuss several stories of groups which did not have "tea party" and "patriot" in their names, strongly suggesting this was a general vendetta against conservatism.

For example:

Sue Martinek of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, already knows what happened to her and others involved in the Coalition for Life of Iowa.

...

Martinek said the woman never offered a first name. A woman’s voice on a recording at her phone number doesn’t give a name, and messages left by McClatchy brought no response.

Richards told Martinek by phone in early 2009 that the group’s application had been approved, Martinek said. But Richards added a condition, according to Martinek. Board members first needed to sign a letter promising not to picket in front of Planned Parenthood offices, Martinek said.

...

Ironically, Planned Parenthood does enjoy the type of tax-exempt status that Martinek’s group originally sought.

Again, not minimizing this.

Ah, the infamous "Friday News Dump" - the stuff that is uncomfortable for the Dems is released just in time to hit offices after everyone has gone home for the weekend.

And if they didn't see it, then it sure as shootin' didn't happen......

I remember being mad that all of my favorite afternoon TV shows were being preempted by the Watergate hearings - I sure as heck didn't stick around to hear what they were saying (I'm a year older than Dear Leader).

132 This has to be the proverbial IT.  If we stand for this we lose.  No, a future Republican administration can't just do it back at em.  Read the articles folks, this is an attitude within the IRS, that they are the enforcers of the progressive cause.  Obama didn't have to order em to do this, he just needed to make it known that the leash was dropped and they charged the enemy with a gusto to unleash the full power of the government against political enemies not seen since the wall fell.

We should be demanding that every IRS employee who was anywhere near this be terminated and barred from ever working for the Federal Government again.  Because they either willingly participated in something utterly incompatible with a republican form of government or (perhaps worse) knew it was wrong and failed to blow the whistle on it.  We should be making it clear that if we can't get a purge of the IRS the ONLY other option is to close the whole perverted thing down.

Give this story a bit longer, let our side realize just how screwed we really are if this doesn't get fixed, and fixed so firmly the drones realize that this is a 3rd rail that touching it can actually get a normally unfireable civil service job terminated, people are going to be desperate enough to do anything.  And we should be, we are now officially cornered rats.  All it would take is one Rick Santelli type rant in the right environment for this to turn into a revolution with shooting.

138 " . . . and perhaps individuals."
================
There's your nuclear bomb.

That's triple-flaming skull worthy.

That's what some of us have been saying, that they actually accessed individual taxpayer data--voting records, registration, donations, letters to editor, etc.

And they did--there's your first admission right there.

Nothing--and I mean, nothing--in an application for non-profit status (if your name in neutral) would raise a flag about your political leanings.

I'd yell, but to be polite: There is no way they could have singled out these other conservatives without additional, personal political data.

I know, because I just finished filling out the paperwork for a nonprofit to get exempt status from the IRS.

And it is damned easy to answer everything in a way that doesn't suggest a damned thing about your political leanings or the group's.

At the bare minimum, it appears they were cross-referencing the applicants and directors required to be listed in the 1023 against political donation reports.

The IRS made an information request to the FEC!!!

178 156 So what are we going to do about it? Posted by: Lauren at May 31, 2013 05:22 PM (wsGWu) Piss and moan, mostly. Conservatives tend not to ingratiate themselves / integrate themselves into "the machine," and the people who do that find it quite easy to exclude us. Ironically, the people strong enough to reject the offer of corruption and power over others end up punished by the people who surrender to the temptation. We can at least do some good by spreading the word, which is difficult even now as the MFM starts to realize their vulnerability, because they still have a reflexive loyalty to their abusers. I don't know what Truman North is up to now, but Google folks are funding a massive tech support group for lefties to manage elections. We have to cut the crap and concentrate on *either* reforming the GOP or forming a serious alternative.... but instead we'll split into factions and do nothing. That's why I didn't want "tax reform" as part of the IRS discussion - yes, it matters, yes, it's a distraction. And we all have ADD like a *boss*.

The reviewing agents looked at your individual tax return and your political donation history before approving the 1023 (Application for Recognition of Exemption).

And our fucking Congressmen better fucking start subpoenaing those. Because there ain't a damned thing in them that would warrant delay or scrutiny like was applied WITHOUT looking at the individual's tax return and donation history.

You pull that fucking scum ass agent in front of the hearing. And you give him a copy of the 1023. And you say, "walk me through your review of this application." And as the fucker goes through it, you ask him what caused him to delay approval, "was it this question?" And you keep fucking hitting him as he flounders for an excuse when no apparent reason is on the face of the document.

And you go through the whole file that way, beat the fucking shitstain down.

And then you ask him how he knew the political leanings of the applicant and board.

And then you ask him to confirm that he donated $500 to Barack Obama for President.

Then some guy comes to our door to ask additional questions, saying he had to come in person since we didn't send in the additional form. The fact these IRS targeting efforts were discovered and exposed by an IG tells me the system, which was designed to be self-correcting, is working. The fact that only Politico and WashPo executives showed up at the Holder's off-the-record debriefing also tells me the press hasn't yet sold out completely, as much as I hate to admit it. Hillary's popularity numbers dropped ten points since the Benghazi story started to unfold, which tells me the American public isn't completely blind, deaf, and dumb. There's still hope.

I don't want to see this squashed and kept in secret until after the next election again.

And you just know that will happen.

Step 1 - Special prosecutor appointed

Step 2 - Obama's minions gather all the dirt they can on SP, by bribery, bullying, lies, and threats , and compile a dossier of skeletons from his/her closet

Step 3 - Obama's minions present this dossier to SP & threaten to publicize it unless he/she keeps the lid on any reports until after 2014 elections/amnesty.

Modify, lather, rinse, repeat on all enemies of Obama as necessary.

This is what I fear has been done to many GOPers, and especially to conservatives we thought were in our corner but have become turncoats or have chickened out.

It would explain a hell of a lot.

No it doesn't.  The system will be shown to 'work' if there are consequences.  And unless we get so rowdy they fear us enough to throw some drones under the bus there isn't going to be any because nobody inside the NY-DC corridor believes the IRS did anything wrong other than get caught.

That is the elephant in the room.  That the vast machinery of the government is entirely politicized; that is the only way the stories we are reading can happen.  The IRS, FEC, EPA, ATF, all of em seem to be acting in concert and that couldn't happen if there were ANY controls still functioning.  The whole Federal Government is now fully integrated into The Party machinery.  The Chicago Way has went national.

If this story breaks and there isn't consequences every person paying the slightest attention is going to get one message loud and clear:  Duckspeak the Party Line in all public utterances or be destroyed.

Census-takers, in my experience, are mostly idiots.

I manage and live on a large ag operation. Couple of our employees and their families live on-sight as well.

One day, I see a little junker car tear-assing around the place, almost getting run over by some heavy equipment.  I chased the gal down, only to see a sticker from the local University next to a coexist sticker.

Asked her what she thought she was doing trespassing, and did she miss the giant sign that said "biosecure - visitation by appointment only". She said she saw it, but it didn't matter - she needed additional info from one of the employees and couldn't find his house.

Because she "works for the government", and can go "wherever I want, whenever I want".

I escorted her off the property as she called the Sheriff, who apparently told her to pound sand.

Next visitor I had from the Census Bureau - retired AF - called ahead and made an appointment. Told me the girl was in complete disbelief about the whole thing. And that she soon after quit the census.

To start teaching elementary school.

228 I might have drawn a big penis where the census asked my ethnicity. I definitely let them know the question was evil. The rest of it I mostly answered.

230 If you haven't already, now is when you should be reading Diana West's 'American Betrayal'. "...could point to a secret political vendetta within the government against conservatives." Indeed. http://amzn.to/12mQVG9

Are they ever going to talk about how the IRS gave out information to HLS and the FBI etc?

How about the Gibson Guitar raids, that story needs a 60 minute special all by itself.  They raided it in full riot gear!  And it wasn't even a criminal law, it was just a civil law about wood.  And the mistake was made in India.

That story is the one that would chill the blood of any free person.

Why hasn't that story become the poster child of this administration? Change you can believe in... political police in full riot gear raiding your business because of campaign contributions.

232 Boy the way Glen Miller played
Songs that made the hit parade.
Guys like us we had it made,
Those were the days.

And you knew who you were then,
Girls were girls and men were men,
Mister we could use a man
Like Herbert Hoover again.

Didn't need no welfare state,
Everybody pulled his weight.
Gee our old LaSalle ran great.
Those were the days.
