Mark Halperin On MSNBC: You Know, Obama Acted Like "A Dick" Yesterday
— DrewM

And he doesn't mean Lugar or Gephardt.

Joe Scarborough: Mark Halperin, What was the president’s strategy? We are coming up on a deadline and the president decided to please his base, push back against the Republicans.I guess the question is, we know a deal has to be done. Is this showmanship? A lot of times you go up there and both sides and they act tough so their base will be appeased, then they quietly work the deal behind the scenes.

Mark Halperin: Are we on the seven second delay?

Mika Brzezinski: Lordy.

Halperin: I wanted to characterize how the president behaved.

Scarborough: We have it. We can use it. Go for it. Let’s see what happens.

Brzezinski: We’re behind you, you fall down and we catch you.

Halperin: I thought he was a dick yesterday.

Scarborough: Delay that. delay that. what are you doing? i can’t believe — Iwas joking. Don’t do that. Did we delay that?

Halperin: I said it. I hope it worked.

Scarborough: My mom is watching! We’ll know whether it worked or not.

The video is at the link.

If you read my post on Obama's presser yesterday, you'd know I agree with Halperin. It's just that since heis spinning madly for Obama or suggesting idiotic courses of action for conservatives that would help Obama, this is a bit out of left field.

I'm not sure what the hell Halperin was reacting to but maybe it was just the thin skinned, immature and peevish nature of Obama's grating personality was too much even for him. Whatever the reason, he's been suspended indefinitely by MSNBC and has apologized (also at the link).

Clearly he deserves to be suspended (and he said as much) but this is what "news channels" get when they try and do some sort of fusion of morning zoo radio and "news" talk programming. Every once and a while, someone is going to cross the line and take the format to its logical and absurd conclusion.

So yeah, inappropriate and unprofessional but also...accurate.

I agree that it was unprofessional.  I don't know so much about "inappropriate".  And, I don't think it is deserving of a suspension.  Have we gotten to such a point of political correctness?  This is hardly a news show and he is not a "journalist" but an opinion guy.  So?  This wasn't even a swear word.

Didn't some big-name journalists get caught saying worse about Bush and not only never apologized, but were never suspended?

You have to understand that rules of Precedential golf:

Barky takes gimme putts from 50 feet out.  Kicking the ball into the fairway usually shaves 40 or fifty strokes off his game.  Everyone looks away when Barky is trying to get out of sand traps.  And he gets a mulligan on every ball strike.

If none of that works and he's still building another 12 on a hole, he just scrawls a bogey in.

I'd put any semi-coordinated 14 year old up against Barky on the golf course.  I'd put any partially ambulatory 9 year old against him in bowling.

Calling Obama a "dick" has clear racist overtones. Traditionally the fear and hatred of blacks in the Southern states was predicated in part on the myth of their hyper-sexualization and desire to rape White women.

Halperin's use of this word is a clear reminder of that history, and a technique to bring to the forefront America's latent racism and fear of powerful Black men.

A new federal program is offering aid with a sweet kicker: It doesn't need to be repaid.

For the roughly four million homeowners who have fallen behind on their mortgage payments, the federal government is offering yet another remedy: free money to catch up on their loans.

The effort, called the Emergency Homeowners Loan Program, is the latest in the federal government's efforts to slow down the flood of foreclosures a necessary step to a meaningful recovery in the housing market, says a Department of Housing and Urban Development official. For people who have lost their jobs, the $1 billion program offers loans of up to $50,000 that don't actually need to be repaid, if applicants meet certain requirements.

Harvard study says 4th of July parades create Republicans:

Fourth of July celebrations in the United States shape the nation's political landscape by forming beliefs and increasing participation, primarily in favor of the Republican Party," said the report from Harvard.

"The political right has been more successful in appropriating American patriotism and its symbols during the 20th century. Survey evidence also confirms that Republicans consider themselves more patriotic than Democrats. According to this interpretation, there is a political congruence between the patriotism promoted on Fourth of July and the values associated with the Republican party. Fourth of July celebrations in Republican dominated counties may thus be more politically biased events that socialize children into Republicans," write Harvard Kennedy School Assistant Professor David Yanagizawa-Drott and Bocconi University Assistant Professor Andreas Madestam.

Posted by: laceyunderalls at June 30, 2011 11:42 AM (pLTLS)

You will find, sadly, that the monumental failure of affirmative action that is Barky will not make the leftists walk back on their ideas of affirmative action, at all.  In fact, it will make them push it even harder.  This is how the left reacts to their failures and stupidities.  They double down.  Over and over.  They will use Barky as a reason to push for more affirmative action.

The only answer to leftists is to not live with them or be under their power in any way.  Otherwise, they are unstoppable in their idiocy and lunacy and they will force their insanity on the rest of us.  Leftists are impossible to live with, which is why it is clear that this nation is going to have to split sometime pretty soon.

247 Kilmeade is funny, and he really goes all out on the gags.

That morning show was so much better before Carlson.  Not because of ED Hill, either.  I didn't really care for ED Hill, but at least she didn't take away from the chemistry.  Carlson is like kryptonite to the show's chemistry.  It's not funny anymore.  It's not charming.  It's not like a group of my friends having coffee and busting on the news.  All that comes down to the negative impact of Carlson's personality.  She's got this "it's me and the camera, baby" personality and that drains energy from the interpersonal interaction.

If someone with a hand held camera sneaked up from behind them for some candid shots, Carlson would know exactly where the camera was and stare into it while the guys try to cut up.  If you brought a Poloroid onto the set, she'd follow you around like a puppy until you left.

This whole story...for those of you who grok the reference...reminds me of the Spinal Tap/Duke Fame album cover imbroglio, wherein the Spinal Tap boys objectified a woman and got slammed for it while Duke Fame (a wanker with that much talent) objectified himself and profited handsomely.

This brought to light the very thin line between brilliant and stupid.

If only Halperin had said this about George Bush, Herman Cain, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin or Michelle Bachmann, he would today be lionized for "speaking truth to power" by the same nervous bunch who tossed him overboard for daring to insult The One True God King Barack the Magnificent, Who Has No Faults and Even If He Did Which He Doesnt They Must Never be Pointed Out, Ever.

Calling Obama a "Dick" = unforgivable under any circumstance.

Calling ANY Republican a "Dick" = You get your own show and hosannas of praise by every media lefty from Maine to Spain.

Actually, the Spinal Tap scene parodied the real life Scorpions' albums "Lovedrive" and "Animal Magnetism".  The former's Europe cover had a man in a limo pulling bubble gum off a woman's breast (nipples NOT exposed).  It was deemed obscene and offensive to women.  The latter US release has a man with a leashed doberman and a woman kneeling down in front of them both.

http://www.the-scorpions.com/english/discography/records/

The band was shocked, saying that the "Animal Mag" cover was way more demeaning than the simple, grade-school gum-on-booby one.  However, American mores being what they are....

I think the press conference spoke volumes. His summation was succinct.

Posted by: Clueless at June 30, 2011 08:05 AM (piMMO)

315 Yes, Clueless.  That's actually pretty much what I mean.

BREAKING NEWS: Today is Salisbury Steak day and Rachel Maddow is taking collections for the baseball team.

Or just SNL or the Onion to announce the whole thing was a gag.  I mean, Maddow's interview with Weiner was hilarious.  'May I please ask if you would like to answer this question, master Weiner sir?  I'm unbiased Maddow.'

MSNBC is surreal.  Their morning program seems like something on public access and their editorial prime time stuff is like something Rush Limbaugh dreamed about.

316 "I think the press conference spoke volumes. His summation was succinct.

Posted by: Clueless at June 30, 2011 01:05 PM (piMMO)"

But to MSNBC's audience, it would probably be helpful to hear why exactly someone would say that.  Sure, the press conference alone should be enough, but those who can figure that out are not watching MSNBC.

I guess I'm revealing the flaw in my argument.  As soon as MSNBC stops pretending to be hard on Democrats and actually makes a real argument, the echo chamber bubble their audience demands is broken, and they will all flee to CNN or that Al Gore network.  They have to pretend to be edgy without defining criticisms of Obama.

319 So from now on if people are called names on MSLSD they will be suspended? WOW, that is quite a precedent! OK, never mind, I know it is only when the messiah gets called the names.

320 I introduced an acquaintance of mine, whose name was Richard to another acquaintance as Dick. He stuck out his hand and said, "uh, it's Richard" Dicks do not like being called Dicks. 324 First of all, I have to concur with the above opinions that there's no way in HELL that The Present is a 14 handicap with that swing. Unless he cheats. Which he probably does. ("Uh, put me down for, uh, a bogey.")

Second, this brings to mind a conversation with my 14-year-old daughter, who a few months ago (unprompted) said, "Ob*ma is a douche." She had no clue what the word meant, so after laughing my ass off I explained that, although she was accurate in her assessment, it's not a word she should use in polite company or in front of a teacher.

"Butt-boy" Halperin still has too brown a nose for me to take this jab at Obama
seriously.  He'll never be a renegade.  He's an Ivy League pimp for "The Won"
and merely reflects some backstage "anxiety" for the 2012 roller-coaster ride.
