— Ace As I've said, Grammer is perfect for the Beast's intellectual side. All the nimbleness and stuff can be faked or trained; I don't think Rebecca Romaijn was a master martial-artist before her turn as Mystique, either.
Church is rumored to be playing one of Spidey's lamer villains, The Sandman. The Sandman was the original villian in James Cameron's "scriptment" (script/treatment) for the original. Why he keeps popping up in these pre-script brainstorming sessions I don't know; okay, he can turn to sand, big f'n' deal.
The only worse Spidey villain is Hydroman (who can turn into... water) or maybe the useless Vulture.
One of Spiderman's cooler foes, The Shocker, never seems to get mentioned by anyone, even though he looks cool and has cool powers.
Topher might be playing anyone, from Venom (no way) to Mysterio to Electro.
I say Electro. And I say let Church play Mysterio. He's got the voice for it. Anyone remember Mysterio's voice from the old good Spiderman cartoon? I think Church could do that.

Kind of wimpy villains, no? Were Neil Patrick Harris and David Hyde Pierce unavailable? What about Sean Hayes (Jack, on Will and Grace)? I can imagine Wolverine and Storm would be quaking in their boots faced with him as a supervillain.

As for Spiderman, I've been bored with the movies. They're class acts, and I love Sam Raimi, but alas, they've made me yawn.
That said, the rumors have long been Lizard, but absolutely no Venom. I dunno why Venom always gets the shaft, but for some reason, I've repeatedly read that no one wants to do that story.

Kelsey is PERFECT for that role!
Great casting move.

They can just make up a new one, of course.
But then there's the problem that the entire character would have to be CGI-- how else ya gonna do that ridiculously oversized maw?
I know the SM films feature a LOT of CGI main characters, but usually just for longer-distance shots. Venom would be CGI even close-up, and we all saw how well that worked in the Hulk.

Sandman's best moment was the bar scene with Ben Grimm about 15 years ago when they spent a whole comic drinking, then finally decided not to fight.
Hydroman's best scene was his fight with the Black Panther about 5 years ago, where he flooded a plane in mid-air. (Yes, it could have been lame, but it rocked).
All that said, S3 should have an epic villian. I would use Green Goblin II/Hobgoblin, and keep people like Sandman to 5 minute cameos.

Venom? I stopped reading SM after he showed up. The entire symbiote storyline was lame.
Electro? Max Dillon was a psycho, hardly a deep enough character for a major film.
Shocker? Yeah, cool suit and all, and I sure which I had his gauntlets, but Spidey regularly kicked his tail.
I vote for Mac Gargan, the Scorpion, with JJJ's son and the whole revenge angle thrown in. That storyline rocked. Scorps was always a tough foe. Have cameos by the Rhino and Johnny Storm and all will be good.
Still waiting for the Thor movie though...and Iron Man...the list goes on. And will Captain America ever be properly done? Not by Hollywood, that's for sure.
