John Kerry's Greatest Hits On Our Troops
— Ace

Just a little refresher.

A bit telling: The audience -- all Democrats, of course -- chuckles approvingly when Kerry brands our troops uneducated morons.

Delicious: Kerry is now lying, of course. Which is just perfect. He cannot admit what he said, he cannot apologize for it. It's too big.

Sort of like Mel Gibson, in a way. Who did in fact apologize, but in a "that wasn't me" sort of way.

That keeps this a live issue. He must deny, deny, deny and claim he's actually defending the honor of the troops from chickenhawks by calling the troops morons.

Well, that's actually not what he's saying. He lies, flagrantly, and claims he was talking about President Bush.

Let's follow his quote-- and see how it fits with this claim.

“You know, education, if you make the most of it, if you study hard and you do your homework, and you make an effort to be smart, uh, you, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”

Talking about President Bush? So this was actually a warning that if kids didn't get smart and educated, they would end up in the dead-end burger-flipping job of the President of the United States of America, and then, owing to the fact that they're stupid and uneducated (but apparently smart and educated enough to be elected President, something only 40 or so men in our country's history have managed) then get "stuck in Iraq" by unilaterally attacking a sovereign nation without the help of our "historic allies."

So that's what he's claiming he meant -- Kids, stay in school, or else you'll just wind up being elected President, and you'll then get us involved in a diificult war with insurgents.

Yeah.

The old "study hard or you'll end up President" motivational speech. If I heard it once in high school, I heard it a thousand times.

Speaking of Motivation... A motivational poster from RobG.

Don't Question His Patriotism: Not only did John Kerry just, um, Swift-Boat every man in uniform in the American armed forces, he basically urged young people to avoid military service at all costs.

Sort of like he tried to do, until his number was up, and he got himself put into a part of the Navy he thought would not be involved in combat in Vietnam.

And then he phonied up some fingernail-scratch "wounds" to get unearned Purple Hearts and get his rich boy ass back stateside ASAP.

Ladies and Gentleman -- your once and future (?) Democratic candidate for Presdident of the United States -- bravely, smartly, toughly doing his best to undermine miitary recruitment in a time of war.

Bravo, Democrats. Bravo.

Bonus: Self-style "truth tellers" (read: leftist pricks) like Billl Maher and Richard Belzer will feel compelled to say, "The only thing John Kerry did wrong was lie about what he said. It is true that the armed forces are a dead-end career for anyone else but the less-than-brilliant and uneducated, though I do understand thare are some racist Christian Southerners who join up so they can kill brown people without being jailed for murder."

Statement of John Kerry Responding to Republican Distortions, Pathetic Tony Snow Diversions and Distractions

Washington – Senator John Kerry issued the following statement in response to White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, assorted right wing nut-jobs, and right wing talk show hosts desperately distorting Kerry’s comments about President Bush to divert attention from their disastrous record:

“If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they're crazy. This is the classic G.O.P. playbook. I’m sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did.

I’m not going to be lectured by a stuffed suit White House mouthpiece standing behind a podium, or doughy Rush Limbaugh, who no doubt today will take a break from belittling Michael J. Fox’s Parkinson’s disease to start lying about me just as they have lied about Iraq. It disgusts me that these Republican hacks, who have never worn the uniform of our country lie and distort so blatantly and carelessly about those who have.

The people who owe our troops an apology are George W. Bush and Dick Cheney who misled America into war and have given us a Katrina foreign policy that has betrayed our ideals, killed and maimed our soldiers, and widened the terrorist threat instead of defeating it. These Republicans are afraid to debate veterans who live and breathe the concerns of our troops, not the empty slogans of an Administration that sent our brave troops to war without body armor.

Bottom line, these Republicans want to debate straw men because they’re afraid to debate real men. And this time it won’t work because we’re going to stay in their face with the truth and deny them even a sliver of light for their distortions. No Democrat will be bullied by an administration that has a cut and run policy in Afghanistan and a stand still and lose strategy in Iraq.”

"sideline issues" like a derision of the troops, you "fought" so hard, while tossing your seed around washington? Other than Gary condit, isn't Kerry one of the most infamous "swordsmen" in washington?

16 My best friend from child hood and still, used to make this joke about whenever we would get in trouble, since we both got in trouble, but I would always seem to get into bigger trouble.

My friend said to me, that whenever you walk into the principles office, or you are before a judge, get Angry, and offended and blame them. Say it is THERE fault that things got so bad, "I'm willing to take my punishment, but if you hadn't ignored it for so long, it wouldn't be so harsh!" shit like that.

He called it "its you not me" defense.

Kerry is performing the perfect "Its you not me" defense right now, especially since the reporters applied ponds to their face already to make it easy to clean off the seed that kerry is gonna spurt in their faces.

They prolly have autographed handkerchiefs, so that they can save it for the grandchildren.

I think he meant it in an 'if you take education seriously you won't end up making disastrous mistakes' kind of way, but couldn't resist throwing in a dig at Bush (which as you correctly note invalidates the entire intended meaning of his little statement).

He contradicted himself and rendered his own statements meaningless all the time on the campaign trail, remember?

From the first minute I read the statement and well before the denails and counter-denials starting flying around, I commented at Hot Air that Kerry was speaking about the President.

While his comments about the President are bad enough, I think we have added words and decided on our own meaning of his statements without actually thinking about any alternatives.  We ascribed the worst possible scenario to the words without proper foundation.

We routinely criticize the Left® for questioning the timing, i.e., coming up with wild theories for events that could just as easily have been something totally different.

Isn't that what we have done here?

40 guess the newspaper. nope, not the times, i'm not reprinting the entirety because it's sickmaking.

Kerry has said that he may have used a poor choice of words when he cited other veterans' reports of atrocities as being "in a fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan."

sanfranchron oct 17 2004:

Kerry said that war crimes committed by the American military in Southeast Asia were "not isolated incidents but crimes committed on a day-to-day basis with the full awareness of officers at all levels of command." -snip-

They told the stories of times they had personally raped, cut off ears, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in a fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks and generally ravaged the countryside of Vietnam," he said. -snip-

The Winter Soldier investigation, which was financed in part by actress Jane Fonda, was controversial. Charges abounded that many of those who showed up to tell their stories falsified their identities or their experiences.

53 Steve, I think he had a chance to clarify his remarks, but instead released an almost breathtakingly impolitic statement.  The incoherence of his original statement leaves room for interpretation, and he refuses to apologize for the fact that it can be taken as an insult against the troops.

The man has the political instincts of a brick.

Posted by: Slublog at October 31, 2006 11:23 AM (R8+nJ)

54 Based on the as yet available information. (I support lauraw's analysis, in fact I think I said it at about the same time in one of the other kerry threads today) there are only two possible formula's for what kerry was saying.

1) the obvious one, that we all hate, and I still think kerry insulted the troops, while trying to offend the president even more.

2) If you study hard you won't be like Bush, (the "intended" target of this insult)

Now, let me break this down a little bit, I will focus first on the second.

"If you study hard you won't be like bush" lets assume right now that that was the intended target and insult. So If you are smart, you can never become THE FUCKING PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED FUCKING STATES OF AMERICA!

So with that insult, he thinks he's insulting just George W. Bush the man, but George W. Bush, I don't know if kerry noticed during his embarassing loss, trying to overthrow not just the electoral system, but also the popular vote, he's Al Gore^2 when it comes to sore loserdom. When actually he is insulting approximately 51.2% of the nation by saying only stupid people would vote for a stupid president.

now, second, in relation to the first.

The military is stupid.

There is no way to spin this properly.

51.2% of the nation is stupid, or the military is stupid both of them are stupid for the same reasons, because George W. Bush, is The President of The United States of America.

Thats not spin on my part, that is a CLEAR +/- comparisson of the arguments that have been offered by JUST John Fing Kerry.

Of course, he won't be in stasis during the transit to Jupiter, he will be working in his mentat pak like brain "trying" to figure out how to make scryth, and impossibilium, but we all know he can do that during the accelleration needed to achieve escape velocity.

He will spend the rest of the time, trying to figure out how to convince John Kerry, John Edwards Barrack Obama and Harold Ford to serve his purposes in late october of 2010 to create a republican autocracy over the US.

I think thats the real goal of Rove's Ringworld mission.

63 This was a variant of the Michael Kinsley gaffe. It this case, Kerry accidentally told us the truth as he sees it. It was a case where the “support our troops” mask slipped a bit, and we got to see how Kerry and the Left view the men and women in the US armed forces. They think we are stupid. This bit of debunking took me all of a couple of minutes to research, and it supports other pieces of info I’ve seen over the years that indicate that members of the US military are, in general, somewhat better educated that their civilian counterparts. Maybe if Kerry had stuck it out for a longer career, he would have soaked a bit more common sense.

Posted by: at October 31, 2006 11:42 AM (Hj9yW)

64

According to a sory currently on the CNN Web site...

Kerry was supposed to say, "I can't overstress the importance of a great education. Do you know where you end up if you don't study, if you aren't smart, if you're intellectually lazy? You end up getting us stuck in a war in Iraq."

Appearantly the speach-writer who put this together Jean Francios Kerry was unaware that Keery's GPA at Yale was 2 points lower than his contemporary there... George W. Bush!

Either way, Kerry loses. Either he is unbeleivably insulting to our troops, or to himself.

Yep, this is the best the Dems could come up with in 2004.

70 I'm actually pretty happy with Kerry's lame-ass spin attempt to get out of this obvious slur. He is going to just brazen it out and claim that what we heard is not what he said. I was worried for a minute that this might be enough to sink him as a 2008 candidate. I'd just as soon have him in the mix, saying stupid stuff and pulling the whole process leftward. When he is finally and utterly rejected by his own party, when he finally realizes he will never be President, THAT will be a sweet day.

71 I for one, would like to thank Kerry for putting his ass on the line once again and single handedly saving the Republican party.

72 Hillary is happy as a clam right about now....one down, how many more to go? Kerry just incinereated any of his Iowa aspirations. His rightous indignation is worth its weight in gold. And Rove can do all this and we cant even see the strings! Rove is a freaking miracle worker.

73 My God, Rove must have mind rays for real! How else can you explain a junior Senator from Massachusetts making such an asinine statement? Rove must have pointed his patented Cognitive Disrupter at Kerry and turned the dial up to 11!

Or, we could simply assume that Kerry is a fucking retard. Which he's demonstrated on many previous occasions.

I wonder what Tah-RAY-zuh is thinking of Hubby's little meltdown? Probably wondering why she ever married the dork in the first place.

74 I can tell it's Halloween. Karl Rove has the best John Kerry mask in the universe. He's got the voice down pat, too.

This is one time when Howard Dean is probably high-fiving his staff and saying, "And they said that I was an anchor for the Democrats! "

75 So Kerry was shooting for Bush and hit roughly 1.3 million active troops as non-fatal collateral damage. What's the big deal? In the 70s Kerry helped ensure we cut off South Vietnam thereby enabling a sequence of events that culminated in the slaughter of at least 3 million Cambodians. Either Kerry is just getting warmed up or the number of 'dead brown people' equivalent to one insulted American (in mix) is a lot higher than I thought.

76 Let's consider this even further, in terms of history. Kerry, we are told, is an educated man. So, what in the world was he doing in Vietnam?

Let's break this down to what it is. Senator John Kerry is either a liar or an idiot, or both. He's just proven it, in spades. And the reason that I'm paying any attention to this nonsense at all, is glaringly simple;

The words of John Kerry, both today and as a matter of history, are emblematic of what the Democrats have become in the last couple of decades. And that was made perfectly clear by the response he got from a friendly audience yesterday morning. What you see in that ugly line up above, is what the Democrats are.

That he now lies and squirms tells us all we need know about the man, and the party that supports him. Keep that in mind, when you go into the voting booth.

As for Mr. Kerry, I'm not in the least interested in an apology from him. What I want, and what the American people deserve, is his resignation.

Oh, I know... fat chance... the guy doesn't contain nearly enough integrity to do so. But, there it is, for all to see.
